The Abolishing of NHS England
The Secretary of State for Health and Social Care, Wes Streeting, has announced that NHS England is being "taken back into direct government control". This follows more than a decade of the NHS – via NHS England (formally, the NHS Commissioning Board) – having a degree of operational independence from the government following the 2012 Health and Social Care Act reforms.
Mr Streeting has said that he wants the dismantling of NHSE to take place over a two year period, by which time he expects the process to be completed. He has asked NHS England ‘transition’ chief executive, Sir Jim Mackey, to convene a transformation team to guide the process There will be two clinical directors within this team – one covering primary care and another covering secondary care
Patient Care Locally understands that these changes come at an extremely challenging time, with rising demand for care, constrained funding and the need to transform services. History tells us this will cause disruption while the transition is taking place
We believe that the concept, mission and vision of Patient Care Locally is at the heart of the government agenda and the perfect vehicle to deliver against the government goals for the nation’s health: illness to prevention, hospital to home and analogue to digital
Rapid Health Smart Triage
PCL is funding a one year, proof of concept project for the use of Rapid Health, a digital triage and appointment booking system which delivers efficiencies for both patient and practice.
The programme, which has been rolled out to over 133,000 patients within Leicestershire, utilises the Rapid Health intelligent software to assess and triage patient needs at first contact, then navigate them to the right care. The system is configured to incorporate practice operating procedures and measures patient need and appropriate clinician availability.
The software is already running in Measham Medical Unit, Castle Medical Group, Dr Virmani and Bedi, Kingsway Surgery, Ratby Surgery, Hockley Farm Medical Practice, Silverdale Medical Practice, Enderby Medical Centre, and Charnwood Surgery. South Leicestershire Medical Group and Barwell and Hollycroft Medical Centre are in the process of deployment We are in the process of capturing data as part of the programme.
