DESIGN SOLUTION: • Built-in cabinetry provides hidden storage for workout equipment and office needs, a partition wall added to create zoned spaces, and a layout that supports evolving lifestyle changes.

• Upgraded HVAC system with additional intake and outtake vents to improve air circulation.

• Bold colors, warm wood tones, gold finishes, elegant touches of quartz and lots of natural light create a simple, modern ambience.

• Layered lighting provides well-lit, adaptable workspaces that can be adjusted based on activity.

The design was developed and executed in alignment with the client’s budget, without compromising aesthetics or functionality.

FLOOR PLAN

Thoughtful Design Features: Oak countertops were selected for their longevity, ease of repair, and natural beauty. Quartz was specified for its durability, aesthetic appeal and lifetime warranty. Maple cabinetry with MDF stile and rail was chosen to provide a balance of durability and cost-effectiveness. Paint in an eggshell finish was specified for durability, cleanability and zero VOCs. A durable and washable vinyl wallcovering was selected for practical maintenance and aesthetics. Hardwood floors were selected for its warmth, character and durability.

CONCEPT This multi-functional space embraces an efficient floor plan, minimizes obstructions to create an environment for Aging in Place. The design meets ADA accessibility standards, maneuverability and safe equipment use. Integrated smart home systems provide automated lighting, climate control, and motorized window treatments. Accessible storage, user-friendly pull hardware, and rocker switch controls further enhance functionality, independence and usability throughout.

This home gym was designed with adaptability in mind, incorporating built-in millwork with removeable shelving to allow for a seamless transition from gym to library. This flexible approach ensures the space can evolve with the client's lifestyle.

• Integrate Craftsman and Mid-Century Modern elements while preserving the historical integrity and character of the space.

• Utility driven solutions for hobbies, hosting guests, an herb garden and 2 dogs to be included.

• Create an open floor plan while retaining the original built-in hutch as a feature piece in the home.

• Feature modern amenities that enhance the client’s culinary activities and entertaining guests.

DESIGN SOLUTION: • An efficient, open floor plan has been achieved by maximizing vertical space and removing unnecessary walls—reducing obstructions and creating a safer, more functional environment.

• The home showcases durable, low maintenance finishes paired with smart appliances and modern amenities, including gourmet appliances, contemporary cabinetry with pull-outs drawers, u-shaped hardware, and quartz countertops that complement the style of the home.

• LED lighting solutions have been incorporated, including overhead task, ambient and indirect lighting with dimmable, adaptive controls.

• Natural grain woodwork paired with expanded window openings flood the space with natural light, fostering a seamless connection to the outdoors.

• Zoned, functional spaces accommodate hobbies, island seating and an enclosed wine room for entertaining, a dedicated herb-growing area, and a pet-friendly area with built-in feeding stations and a sleeping bed for dogs.

• The historic nature of the home has been preserved with stained glass windows, natural grain woodwork, and handcrafted details in an updated hutch.

To reduce obstructions and promote a safe environment, space planning was carefully considered: - U-shaped layout enhances functionality and efficiency.

- Work centers positioned to maintain 4-9' of travel distance between the range, sink, and refrigerator.

- Work centers can comfortably accommodate two or more cooks, as the workspace exceeds 48".

- The sink is positioned with a workspace clearance of 18" on one side and 24" on the other.

- Each refrigerator has 15" of adjacent landing space.

- The range is flanked by ample landing areas on both sides.

- The island seating provides more than 44 inches of clearance, allowing comfortable passage for others.

Benjamin Moore paint was selected in a satin finish for cabinetry, chosen for its organic, timeless appeal, long-lasting durability and zero VOCs. White oak cabinets were specified for durability, natural grain and organic character. This selection honors Craftsman materials, while its texture and look align with mid-century modern.

A handmade, geometric tile was chosen for the backsplash to introduce visual movement and architectural structure. The bold color and pattern reinforce Mid-Century Modern design.

A quartz countertop was selected for its organic design, stain resistance, and easy to clean properties.

A matte terrazzo porcelain tile was specified for the floor to provide enhanced slip resistance, long-lasting durability, and a timeless aesthetic.

Residential Design CHIEF ARCHITECT Chief Architect is a design and drafting software developed for architects, builders, designers, and residential design professionals. It is widely used for creating detailed 2D plans and fully rendered 3D models with precision, efficiency, and realism. It bridges the gap between conceptual design and construction documentation, allowing professionals to design, visualize, and produce working drawings within a single integrated system. Chief Architect offers significant benefits by increasing efficiency of drawings, improves accuracy, enhances client communication and streamlines workflow. This tool empowers designers to move seamlessly from concept to construction-ready documentation and helps clients visualize and feel more confident about designs.

CLIENT GOALS: • Create a bathroom that blends historical aesthetics with refined luxury for guests.

• Design a layout that supports accessibility, mobility needs and comfort for all.

• Maximize storage and vanity space to improve functionality and organization.

• Incorporate a Craftsman style design while introducing modern elements.

DESIGN SOLUTION: • A barrier-free floor plan was created by removing walls and expanding the bathroom into the adjacent closet and hallway, improving functionality and safety.

• A palette of warm browns and neutral tones was selected to reflect the natural materials found in Craftsman design.

• High-end materials and finishes with a modern aesthetic have been incorporated while maintaining the character of Craftsman style, including motorized blinds, heated floors, towel warmers, Frank Lloyd Wright inspired bath fixtures and Cambria countertops.

• Lighting was enhanced through layered LED lighting, including wall sconces, picture lighting, toe kick lighting and a lighted mirror to improve functionality, safety and ambiance.

• A full-height window was incorporated to maximize natural light, creating a brighter space with a more open, contemporary feel.

• Ample storage was integrated in the vanity area to accommodate guest needs.

• Safety considerations include ventilation that meets the required CFM rating, a CSA-certified shower head, a thermostatic shower valve, GFCI outlets and slip resistant tile.

Residential Design AUTODESK AUTOCAD: Autodesk AutoCAD is a computer-aided design (CAD) program that allows professionals to produce a wide range of technical drawings and design plans. It is widely used across industries such as architecture, interior design, engineering, product development, manufacturing, and construction.

The software enables designers to create and modify digital drawings and visualizations in both 2D and 3D formats. AutoCAD improves productivity and design consistency, helps reduce errors, and supports clear communication of design concepts and space-planning ideas with clients.

MATERIAL SUITABILITY The design process began with a client’s inspiration which was translated into floor plans, elevations and detailed drawings. These were developed using Autodesk AutoCAD to clearly communicate the design intent.

Material selections were thoughtfully considered to ensure they were appropriate for the intended application, while supporting aesthetic goals. The design also considers the spatial constraints of the existing ceiling and floor layout, carefully organizing elements to maintain proportion and visual balance within the space.

Residential Design FIXTURES AND FINISHES CLIENT GOALS: • Create a master bedroom suite that functions as a relaxing, retreat-like space for a family of four.

• Incorporate a design that reflects the character and charm of the Cape Cod-style home which resides in Key West, Florida.

• Develop a layout and ambience that supports shared family activities such as reading and watching movies.

• Prioritize comfort, safety and functionality to accommodate both adults and young children.

• Establish a calming environment through thoughtful use of color, materials, and furnishings.

DESIGN SOLUTION: • Inspiration for the design is drawn from the colorful and playful artwork of Flowers 64 by Andy Warhol.

• A casual yet elevated space was designed to evoke relaxation through complementary, soothing hues and botanical patterns.

• Furniture and flooring selections feature light woods tones, natural wicker textures, muted florals, and deep black accents to create contrast.

• Finishes are thoughtfully selected to mimic the natural beauty of the outdoors.

• Organic shapes are incorporated throughout the space to enhance a relaxed, natural flow.

• A playful wallcovering, inspired by ocean waves in a muted blue tone, adds movement and calming energy.

• Soft finishes such as bedding and drapery reinforce repetition and unity through cohesive colors and patterns.

• Fabricut fabrics were chosen for drapery, the chair and accent pillows which all meet Class 1 UFAC rating for flammability.

FURNITURE AND FINISHES The rug and hardwood floors were created in SketchUp by drawing rectangles and applying textures to each surface.

Since both elements exist on the same plane, the rug was slightly extruded to give it a more realistic, three-dimensional appearance.

Several furniture pieces were imported from SketchUp’s 3D Warehouse and placed within the model. The materials for the bed, side table, and chair were modified, and each piece was adjusted to the appropriate scale.

The nightstand is a custom furniture piece that was created from the ground up in SketchUp, using an image as inspiration to guide form, proportion, and materiality.

SKETCHUP SketchUp is a 3D modeling software used to create, visualize, and refine design concepts. It is utilized in architecture, interior design, construction, and engineering. It allows designers to transform 2D drawings into detailed 3D models with ease. SketchUp enables designers to communicate their vision effectively through realistic visuals, making it an essential tool for presentations to clients and team members.

BEDROOM DEVELOPMENT - Modeled bedroom as 2D and 3D views including architectural elements, interior furnishings and materials in SketchUp. - Created custom furniture pieces in SketchUp for rendering.

- Used Adobe Photoshop to edit and enhance bedroom rendering which was created in SketchUp.

Commercial Design The design process was initiated with hand sketches to establish form, function, and scale of a custom reception desk for an office. These concepts were translated into detailed AutoCAD plans, elevations, and sections while adhering to National Kitchen and Bath (NKBA) standards.

The desk design incorporates a wheelchair accessible approach and lighting to enhance visibility and visual emphasis. Material selections for the desk, paint, wallcoverings and floor were carefully curated to suit a commercial office environment, balancing durability with aesthetics.

The final construction package, including a comprehensive floor plan and a finish schedule, was completed for the entire commercial office space.

Technology SketchUp CLIENT GOALS: • Transform an existing building into a sophisticated hotel destination.

• Design the lobby to create a welcoming guest experience, capturing the essence of individuality and comfortable luxury.

• Create thoughtfully arranged seating zones that invite relaxation and socialization.

• Develop a feature wall and front reception desk that create a memorable focal point and defines the arrival experience.

• Integrate thoughtfully selected lighting, architectural elements, and materials that enrich the ambiance and guest experience.

DESIGN SOLUTION: • Designed a statement wall inspired by Detroit’s street art, transforming the entry into a bold expression of creativity and uniqueness.

• Created a marble front desk with a steel façade that references Detroit’s industrial railroad heritage.

• Featured artwork at the reception desk that honors classic cars which shaped Detroit’s legacy.

• Organized seating into three zones, the bar and two lounge areas—separated by a fireplace to create a warm, intimate atmosphere.

In this project, SketchUp was used to develop a hotel floor plan by first laying out walls and spaces in 2D. A custom fireplace was modeled by drawing circles and using the push/pull tool to shape it, while the reception desk was created by outlining its footprint and countertop with rectangles, then adding depth and volume using the push/pull tool. The line and rectangle tools were also used to divide the desk’s front into panels and asymmetrical sections. Textures for these elements and other materials such as rugs, flooring and furniture were sourced from the 3D Warehouse, applied with the Paint Bucket tool, and scaled appropriately to achieve a realistic appearance.

CLIENT GOALS: • Create a lighting design for the Drexel Design Studio, a manufacturer of furniture, that reflects the image of their new brand.

• Design a residential look for the reception area as it is high exposure to clients.

• Create a lighting experience that guides clients seamlessly to the reception area upon arrival.

• Develop versatile lighting for the conference room to support a range of functional needs.

• Incorporate lighting that highlights the “Wall of Fame” in the executive offices, which showcases key success stories.

• Design lighting for employee workstations in the studio based on the functional needs of each area in order to support productivity and visual comfort.

DESIGN SOLUTION: • Ambient, accent and task lighting are achieved in the reception area by way of elegant chandeliers, an illuminated tray ceiling, picture lights, wall sconces and mini pendants above the reception desk.

• Chandeliers, along with decorative lighting in a new Drexel sign, highlight the reception desk and welcome clients into the space.

• The conference room lighting is functional with a warm, inviting feel, using dimmable downlights, black modern chandeliers, picture lights, and cove lighting to highlight a textured tray ceiling.

• Lighting in the executive office blends function with an upscale look, featuring dimmable downlights for ideal illumination, along with a linear pendant and desk lamp. A wall of fame acts as a focal point, accented by elegant brass picture lighting.

• Studio lighting is designed to foster productivity and innovation, incorporating downlights, dimmable recessed linear fixtures, desk lamps, integrated millwork lighting, and a statement chandelier in the sitting area.

Reception lighting from Modern Form was selected for its energy efficiency, even illumination, strong color rendering index (CRI), 3,000K color temperature and lumen output.

Conference room lighting was chosen for its slim, modern design, ENERGY STAR rating, strong color rendering index (CRI), color temperature of 3,000K and lumen output.

Studio lighting was selected for its clean, contemporary design, energy efficiency, lumen ouput, color temperature of 3,000K and strong color rendering index (CRI).

Executive office lighting from Modern Place and House of Troy was chosen for its clean lines, color temperature of 3,000K, strong color rendering index (CRI) and energy performance.

The interior lighting design for the Drexel office embraces the art of light with a fresh new look while putting boldness and comfort at the forefront just like their furniture.

Contemporary fixtures are incorporated throughout, elevating the space with a unique and inviting experience which gives employees and clients a sense of coziness and relaxation.

Community inspired artwork can be admired around every corner and are brought to life with quality light fixtures that represent the Drexel brand. Metal finishes in black and brass and shimmers of glass provide even illumination in a flexible and functional layered lighting design. Fixtures throughout the design are in the color rendering index of 90-98 unless noted otherwise and a color temperature of 2,700-3,000K for a warm tone. Just like style was a consideration in this design so was incorporating energy efficient lighting, adjustability with dimming and switching flexibility to users so different lighting can be used based on needs.
