Shoulder Arthritis: Causes, Symptoms and Diagnosis.

Page 1

Introduction Shoulder arthritis is a condition that causes inflammation in the shoulder joint. It occurs when the cartilage that cushions the bones wears down over time. Also, this can happen due to various factors, such as ageing, injuries, or autoimmune diseases. The gradual breakdown of cartilage leads to bone-on-bone contact, which causes pain and restricted movement in the shoulder.

Types 1. Osteoarthritis: typically associated with ageing. It occurs when the protective cartilage in the shoulder joint breaks down due to wear and tear, leading to pain and stiffness. 2. Rheumatoid Arthritis: autoimmune disorder where the immune system attacks the synovium, a membrane that lines the joints.

3. Post-Traumatic Arthritis: It can develop after a shoulder injury, fracture, or dislocation, leading to joint degeneration and arthritis.
