What's up my Good people, I am so excited that we are here. I started Sapphic LA in January 2023, with the intention of creating a center of gravity that I desperately desired in this city. Los Angeles is larger than life and at the same time can feel so isolating. Sometimes ‘community’ seems like a buzzword online that has a hard time landing in real life. I was challenged by the fact that there wasn’t a place I could easily find events for me that weren’t buried under a sea of others made for and by gay men.

The continuous circumstance of hearing about events I aligned with only after they happened felt like missed after missed opportunity to color in my sense of belonging with the shades that compliment my spirit.

As I started to spend more time looking for happenings where I could commune with my people, it only made sense to start sharing my findings for those who were likely in the same position. The result has been the beautiful unfolding of a labor of love that is evolving into a platform for connection and resource sharing.

All that being said, it is with an abundance of excitement that I introduce the First Edition of Sapphic LA’s City Guide. Outside of events, there are so many resources available to our community, but there’s no directory–so to speak–to find them. The City Guide serves as a means to centralize information meant for us. The guide is heavily based on the trends that present themselves in publishing the weekly newsletter, in addition to nominations voiced by subscribers during our annual Best of awards. Still so, this is not an exhaustive record; it will continue to evolve.

To whomever is reading this, thank you for taking the time to connect with this resource, supporting the mission of Sapphic LA, and amplifying queer visibility. Whether you are local or just visiting, I hope this guide can be a starting point for endless connection, a means to strengthen our ecosystem within Los Angeles, and instill a sense of pride in witnessing the power of your community.
