EDITOR'S WELCOME Welcome to the third edition of our quarterly publication - Leading with Purpose! We live in an industrial age linear model of “take, make, waste” in which over 91% of raw materials including fossil fuels aren’t reusable, and therefore wasted. This model has created a vicious cycle of economic, social and environmental inequality. To break this cycle, we must effect massive change. Imagine a future that looks greener, cleaner, and more equal than the world we live in today. A world of ZERO emissions, ZERO waste, and ZERO inequality. At SAP, we dare to not just dream about this aspiration, but to power the technology and innovation that is Vivek Bapat required to activate this bold vision into reality. SVP, Purpose & Technology that can enable businesses to Sustainability fundamentally rethink how they manage their carbon Marketing footprints, design new business processes that create opportunity rather than generate waste and provide the transparency and regulatory compliance to hold ourselves accountable to the highest standards of economic, social, and environmental governance. Inspired by the notion that sustainable businesses can effectively lead the way to this ambition, we are launching a new platform, “Chasing ZERO.” “Chasing Zero” will feature executive thought leadership, provide unique points of view and insights into sustainability related transformation from some of the most forward-thinking companies in the world. It will highlight best practices from our global ecosystem of leading thinkers, academics, customers, and partners. We hope the third edition of “Leading with Purpose” inspires the SAP ecosystem to collaboratively drive action towards the realization of a more sustainable future. The COVID-19 pandemic continues to rage. Many countries have suffered greatly over the past 15 months. Right now, the areas of the world that are causing the greatest concern are India, Brazil and Turkey, amongst many others. SAP continues to monitor the status of the pandemic extremely closely, and we are trying to provide help as quickly as possible to those in need – to our employees, their families and the communities in which we all live and work. In support of these efforts, SAP has doubled its commitment to the COVID-19 Emergency Fund bringing the total to €6M. In 2020, SAP became a founding supporter of We Are Family Foundation's Youth To The Front Fund (YTTFF), taking a stand against social inequality, and eliminating barriers to funding for young leaders under 30 years old who were tackling these issues. The inaugural YTTFF “Frontliner” grantees

represent 7 states in the USA and 10 countries on 4 continents. The SAP Board, in partnership with SAP's CSR team, has recommitted SAP's support for YTTTF entrepreneurs in 2021. We look forward to sharing their stories with you!

This is one more step in SAP's commitment to racial justice. The program will feature teams of SAP employees providing pro bono consulting services to Black-owned businesses and social enterprises across Atlanta, Chicago, Philadelphia, and New York City. openSAP Course clean-IT: Towards Sustainable Digital Technologies

The clean-IT Initiative was founded in 2020 by Hasso Plattner Institute for Digital Engineering to fight the exponential growth of carbon emissions caused by the widespread use of digital technologies on a global scale. The clean-IT Forum is an open platform for stakeholders in academia, IT industry, NGOs and policy leaders to exchange ideas about how to effectively reduce the energy requirements of digital technologies following the guiding principles of "algorithmic efficiency" and "sustainability by design" in digital engineering. Due to their immateriality, computer systems and software appear to be clean services and applications. However, every digital action requires energy.

To reduce energy requirements of computer systems it is necessary to ...
