DEC 2020

EDITOR'S WELCOME Welcome to the second edition of our quarterly publication - Leading with Purpose! It is an understatement to say that 2020 has been tough. The world is on edge as simultaneous, disruptive forces merge and pose existential threats. Climate change, Coronavirus, waste, rising inequalities, social injustice, erosion of public trust in media, institutions, businesses, and governments force us to face the cold, hard truth: We can either agree to change course or face a bleak future.

Vivek Bapat SVP, Purpose & Brand Experience Marketing

At SAP, we recognize that breakdowns in existing paradigms often create opportunities to create new ones – where profit and purpose are in alignment. Simply talking about purpose in a visionary future is not enough. Talk is cheap. Action is the new currency of the purpose movement.

Through the relevance and reach of our technology, we are privileged to serve as an enabler and an exemplar for thousands of companies who seek to help the world run better and improve people’s lives. Our purpose focuses on the areas where we believe we can deliver the most authentic impact, specifically climate action, circular economy, equality for all, building a skilled and inclusive workforce, and promoting social and inclusive entrepreneurship.

As we head into the new year, we recognize that despite all the changes happening on the outside, we need to pay close attention to what’s happening to us on the inside. To solve the problems outlined above, we must first take care of ourselves and those around us. Mental health and well-being matter now, more than ever before. Therefore, the second edition of “Leading with Purpose” opens with the incredible work being done at SAP to prioritize mental health and well-being, as we foster a culture of inclusion and eliminate the stigma around mental health disorders in the workplace. We hope this issue encourages you to reflect on how to support yourself and each other, so we can continue to come together to collectively transform industries, grow economies, lift up societies, and sustain our environment. With Gratitude,

DEC 2020

TOGETHER AGAIN THE INSPIRATION In early July, Adaire Fox-Martin, SAP Executive Board member, reached out to Alicia to share her vision around creating an original song and music video for SAP – performed by SAP employees. She saw an opportunity to develop a strong sense of unity, and a spirit of togetherness, within the SAP global family, and asked Marketing to lead the way in bringing her vision to life. And that’s how “Together Again” was born.

At the beginning of the pandemic, I saw a report about choirs from different religious groups singing a traditional hymn. You could feel the unity and I wanted to create a similar spirit of togetherness for the SAP family. Adaire Fox-Martin, Executive Board Member, SAP

THE IMPACT Adaire invited all 100,000+ SAP employees to participate in the “Together Again” project. With over 500 employee submissions, "Together Again” showcased colleagues from around the world singing, clapping, playing instruments, and simply making a heart shape with their hands. On Sept 15, we launched “Together Again” with a call to action to “reach out to someone, from the heart."

In recognition of World Kindness Day, we launched a new function called “Share a Smile” on our Fit@SAP platform. This platform is available to SAP’s entire global workforce, allowing all colleagues to connect with each other through their health and activity goals, and spread more happiness and well-being to each other.
