@SANTEECHAMBER

FROM THE PRESIDENT

HELLO SANTEE Fall is upon us, and before the pumpkins and cider-scented candles take over, I want to reflect on an unforgettable summer for the Santee Chamber. Our 18th Annual Santee Street Fair on May 23rd took more than six months of planning, and in my first year at the helm, watching it come together was something I will not soon forget. This year, we introduced exciting new additions to the fair, including a Car Show, Rock Band Stage, an Art Show featuring original work from local students, and free face painting and balloons, alongside more than 250 vendors filling our streets. Thank you to the City of Santee and every department involved for your partnership and for guiding me through each step. To our Chamber staff and volunteers, our sponsors, and our Board of Directors, with 100% Board participation, your time, resources, dedication, and willingness to roll up your sleeves made this day possible. Read more about this year’s street fair in this edition, and don’t miss our cover story unveiling the Chamber’s next exciting initiative! Sincerely,

AMANDA DAUGHERTY Santee Chamber President & CEO

FROM THE DESK OF THE CHAIR

LOOKING AHEAD I’m proud to be a lifelong Santee resident, born and raised here, and honored to have called this community home for 50 years. Serving as Chairman of the Santee Chamber of Commerce is a privilege. Together, we’ve helped make the Santee Street Fair our biggest ever, with record attendance, a car show, and new entertainment stages. We’ve also invested in our future by awarding more than $11,000 in skilled trades scholarships to 11 deserving students from West Hills and Santana High Schools. Please continue supporting our local businesses and helping keep Santee one of San Diego County’s best communities! Sincerely,

DANIEL BUKSA Chair, Board of Directors

THE UNIFORM CHANGED,

THE MISSION NEVER DID.

Some of my earliest memories do not actually belong to me. They are the stories my parents told, stories of a young Navy family living in Groton, Connecticut, where submarines quietly slipped beneath the surface and life was measured by deployments, homecomings, and the next set of orders. I was born just a few miles away in New London while my father served aboard the USS Augusta, a nuclear-powered submarine. Before I was two years old, the Navy moved our family across the country to California. Over the years that followed, my father served during the Gulf War aboard the USS McKee, later the USS Salt Lake City and USS Pasadena, and ultimately retired after 23 years of service as a Senior Chief Electronics Technician. As a child, I could not fully understand why families packed up at a moment's notice or why months apart were simply accepted as part of the journey. I only knew that serving his country was simply what my dad did. It was not until he retired that I realized it had never just been about the Navy. Watching him move from commanding a submarine crew to overseeing a power plant, I began to see that for him, the work had always been the constant. The setting changed, but the commitment remained the same. The uniform changed. The mission never did. Not every veteran gets a soft landing. My father was fortunate. Spending a few years as a Navy recruiter before retirement gave him a gradual introduction to the civilian world, a chance to practice navigating it before he had to fully embrace it. For many veterans, that bridge does not exist. The transition out of service can be abrupt, disorienting, and lonely in ways that are hard to explain to someone who has never worn a uniform. The identity, the structure, the sense of purpose; these do not come with a civilian equivalent handed to you on the way out. And yet many veterans find their footing, not because the path was clear but because they were built to keep moving.

T SM

In Santee, that is exactly what so many local veterans have done. They figured out who they were outside of a uniform, did the work, found their footing, and built something worth being proud of. Some have built businesses from the ground up, channeling the same discipline and determination that carried them through service. Some went on to become police officers and mortgage lenders. Others give back through philanthropy, lending their skills, time, and resources to causes that strengthen the community around them. Some sit on boards and committees, using their leadership experience to help shape decisions that affect all of us. And others show up every day doing the work that keeps this community running. Many of these inspiring individuals are featured on the cover photo of this edition. That photograph is especially meaningful to me. Standing beneath the words "Land of the Free Because of the Brave" are local veterans I have had the privilege of writing about. Their stories remind us that the skills learned through service, including decision-making, discipline, accountability, and the ability to lead under pressure, are qualities that help build strong businesses and strong communities. This cover is more than a photograph; it is a tribute to leadership in every form. It is that same spirit that has inspired what comes next at the Santee Chamber of Commerce. Over the past year, I have had the privilege of meeting veterans in our business community and listening to their stories, their challenges, and their goals. Today, Santee is home to one of the region's largest veteran populations, including many ages 35 to 64 and many with service-connected disabilities. Many of these individuals own businesses, lead teams, and are woven into the fabric of Santee's economy. They are an essential part of our local workforce.

In recognition of their contributions and as a natural extension of the Chamber's commitment to this community, I am proud to introduce SERV, Santee Entrepreneurial Resources for Veterans. SERV is a Chamber initiative created to support, connect, and empower veterans at every stage of their professional journey. Launching this Fall 2026, it will be led by veteran entrepreneurs and business leaders within the Santee Chamber of Commerce. Whether you are starting a business, growing one, building a career in the civilian workforce, or simply looking for a room full of people who understand the path you have walked, SERV was built with you in mind. The program will offer mentorship, business guidance, education, and a peer network designed to meet Santee's veteran business community where they are and help them build what comes next. At the Santee Chamber of Commerce, we understand that the uniform changed. The mission never did. – Amanda Daugherty, President & CEO, Santee Chamber of Commerce

We are, and always will be, the Land of the Free Because of the Brave.

That same commitment will continue this Fall with the 8th Annual Veterans Appreciation Golf Tournament on Friday, November 6th at Carlton Oaks Golf Course. A great opportunity for the community to come together in support of local veterans. More information is available by scanning the QR code below or visiting www.santeechamber.com.

SANTEE SCOOP Hi, I’m John Olsen, a longtime resident and business advocate of Santee. As an active member of the Santee Chamber, I often showcase upcoming development projects and events around town. Be sure to follow me for more on Facebook.com/SanteeUpdate

Mike Aiken: Four Decades of Service Mike Aiken has spent more than forty years in service. He began in the Navy as a sonar technician aboard the USS Barb, the Fighting Fish of the Pacific, tracking submarines through the Cold War. He then gave twenty-eight years to the San Diego Police Department, much of it as a K-9 officer working alongside his last partner, Bagheera.

Mike Aiken during his Navy service aboard the USS Barb.

Today he is Community Relations Director at Carlton Oaks Golf Club, sits on the Santee Chamber Board of Directors, and serves with the Santee and Lakeside Rotary Club. Six years at sea, twenty-eight on patrol, and he is still showing up for Santee.

Thank You, Pam White For forty years, Pam White helped build the Santee we have today. As the City's Economic Development Manager she welcomed new businesses, supported local employers, and built the partnerships that gave people a reason to stay. She did it with kindness and without fuss. Business owners, community leaders, and anyone who walked in looking for direction left feeling heard. On July 16, 2026, the City proclaimed Pam White Day. A fitting marker for a legacy that runs well past City Hall, through the businesses she helped open and the people she mentored. Thank you, Pam. Enjoy what comes next.

SANTEE STREET FAIR CELEBRATING COMMUNITY, LOCAL BUSINESS AND TRADITION On Saturday, May 23rd, Riverview Parkway came alive for the 18th Annual Santee Street Fair, hosted by the Santee Chamber of Commerce and presented by San Diego Pools. Since beginning in 2009, the Street Fair has grown into one of Santee's largest and most anticipated community traditions. The day began with an opening ceremony honoring the meaning of Memorial Day weekend. Representatives from the Santee American Legion and VFW joined local leaders and community members in recognizing the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country. The Santee Fire Department presented the flag, local veterans led the Pledge of Allegiance, the West Hills High School Choir performed the National Anthem, and the Santana Cheer team helped kick off our big day with plenty of Santee spirit! This year also brought several exciting new additions. The new Rock Stage, sponsored by Sycuan Casino Resort and Allegiance Heating & Air, added even more live entertainment to the event. The Car Show brought to us by Sedano Chevrolet in partnership with UPS of Santee gave guests another area to explore, while the Student Art Show, sponsored by Goodman Orthodontics, showcased the creativity of local students. Families also enjoyed complimentary face painting and balloon art sponsored by Davis Roofing. Throughout the day, guests enjoyed live music, dance, theater, martial arts and cheer performances from talented local organizations. Families explored carnival rides, games and activities while shopping from local businesses, artisans and community organizations. More than 30 food vendors served a variety of meals, snacks and treats, while the Beer Garden, brought to us by BNS, also featured several local breweries. The 2026 Santee Street Fair was another memorable celebration of local business, family and community, and we look forward to continuing this tradition for years to come! – Jennae Gonzalez, Events and Marketing

T H A N K YO U TO O U R S P O N S O R S A N D PA R T N E R S The Santee Chamber extends its sincere appreciation to our Title Sponsor, San Diego Pools, along with Expressions Dance & Movement Center, Foothills Christian Church, Superior Asphalt, Goodman Orthodontics, Sycuan Casino Resort, Allegiance Heating & Air, Sedano Chevrolet, Davis Roofing, Raceway Electric & Solar, Lloyd's Collision & Paint Center, UPS Santee, BNS Brewing and Distillery, Deano's Pub, Staump Music School and Kings Horsemen Group. Their support helped make the day possible.

We are also grateful to the City of Santee, Waste Management, the Santee Fire Department, the San Diego County Sheriff's Department, our Board of Directors, Street Fair Committee, Chamber staff, vendors, performers and volunteers. A special thank you to Boy Scout Troop 308 for their time and support throughout the event.

SOCIALIZING SANTEE

CONNECTING COMMUNITY

THROUGH EVENTS THAT MATTER Santee Street Fair The Chamber pulled out all the stops for this year's Street Fair, bringing thousands of residents and visitors together for a day of community, local business, entertainment, and family fun. What most don't realize is that it is planned and staffed almost entirely by Chamber staff, Board Directors, and members. Thank you to everyone who gave their time and talents to make this year's Street Fair a success!

Lunch with Supervisor Anderson In June, County Supervisor Joel Anderson (District 2) joined us for another Government Luncheon, with lunch generously sponsored by Jimmy's of Santee. Guests heard updates on regional priorities and issues affecting local businesses and East County. These gatherings are open to anyone who wants to ask questions, share concerns, and talk directly with community leaders.

Celebrating Small Business! Few moments are more rewarding than celebrating a new business. Ribbon cuttings let us welcome entrepreneurs as they take an exciting step toward their dreams, and this year the Chamber has celebrated more than a dozen grand openings and milestones. It is always an honor to bring out the oversized scissors. Congratulations to all of our newest and growing businesses.

End of an Era: Celebrating Two Remarkable Women This year marks the close of an important chapter for two valued Board members. Barbara Ryan, representing the Santee School District for more than 47 years, and Pam White, longtime liaison to the City of Santee's Economic Development Department, have each made lasting contributions to the Chamber and to the relationships that make Santee special. We will miss them around the board table and wish them the very best.
