Message from the College Principal

It is with immense gratitude that we acknowledge our supporters in Impact of Giving 2024, celebrating 12 months of generous contributions made to Santa Sabina College. This publication is a testament to the incredible support and commitment of our community, which has enabled us to continue providing exceptional educational experiences for our students.
In 2024 we have seen growth and achievement, made possible by the unwavering and growing support of our donors. Your contributions have had a profound impact on the College, allowing us to enhance our programs, improve our facilities, and provide scholarships to deserving students. Each donation, whether large or small, has played a crucial role in shaping the future of our school and the lives of our students.
We are particularly proud of the following initiatives that have been supported by your generosity:
1. Scholarship Programs: Your donations have enabled us to offer financial assistance to students who might not otherwise have the
opportunity to attend Santa Sabina These scholarships are transforming lives and opening doors to a brighter future.
2. New facilities: Thanks to your support, we are embarking on our Master Plan – significant upgrades to our classrooms, sports facilities and recreational areas, creating a more conducive learning and wellbeing environment for our students.
As we look ahead, we are excited about the possibilities that lie before us. With your continued support, we will strive to achieve even greater heights, ensuring that Santa Sabina remains a place of excellence and opportunity for all.
On behalf of the entire Santa Sabina community, I extend my heartfelt thanks to each and every donor. Your generosity is making a difference, and we are deeply grateful for your partnership.
Thank you for believing in our mission and for helping us to create a brighter future for our students.
Paulina Skerman College Principal
Message from the Chair of the Foundation

The Santa Sabina Foundation’s vision is to raise funds to provide scholarships and assistance with building projects. The Foundation is committed to fostering a close relationship with our students, both past and present, our families and the community.
The support of our community is vital to us realising the College vision to evolve for the future and build a financial asset to support projects. Our building Master Plan is the first step to revitalising the campus.
In 2024 we had our first Giving Day and raised $300,000 for our building project. Thank you to our wonderful community who supported us so generously. The work of the Foundation cannot be achieved without the support of so many and we thank you for your generosity. This result is due to the hard work of George Ayoub, our Director of Development, and the College’s communications team.
Our Foundation uses the funds donated to provide scholarships and bursaries enabling students to be educated in the Dominican tradition. The Foundation awarded the A & D Wilcox Scholarship
supporting a student in Years 11 and 12. The Sakr Family graciously donated a three-year scholarship which commenced this year.
As the year ends we are committed to our Santa Sabina community enabling us to build a financial asset for the future.

Message from the Director of Development

The fundraising program in 2024 has been instrumental in supporting Santa Sabina College’s educational programs, infrastructure projects and student scholarships. These activities not only generated essential funds but also strengthened the sense of community and engagement among students, parents, alumni, and supporters. The following report highlights the many activities and events we were able to provide for our community that we hope will enable us to provide for our students now and into the future.
130th Anniversary Gala Dinner
Our 130th Anniversary Gala Dinner was a grand celebration marking the College’s significant milestone. Held at the very impressive Fullerton Hotel in Sydney, the event brought together alumni, current students, staff and community members to honour the school’s rich heritage.
Speeches: distinguished alumni and current leaders shared inspiring stories and reflections on the College’s journey over the past 130 years.
Performances: the evening featured musical performances by students, showcasing their talents and the vibrant

arts culture at Santa Sabina. As well we heard from guest speakers and watched a video presenting our 130 years of educating our boys and girls.
Historical Exhibition: A special exhibition displayed memorabilia and photographs, taking us on a nostalgic journey through the College’s history.
Donations from very generous members of our community provided us with the ability to engage with the guests and provided an opportunity to support the College.
The event not only celebrated past achievements but also reinforced the
strong sense of community and pride among attendees.
First Giving Day
Our inaugural Giving Day was a 24hour fundraising campaign aimed at encouraging donations from the school community to support various programs and projects. Highlights included:
Community Engagement: the event saw enthusiastic participation from over 500 students, parents, alumni, and staff, all coming together to support the College.

Fundraising Activities: various activities, including bake sales, a staff vs students football match, and social media campaigns, were organised to promote the event and encourage donations.
The modest target amount was reached and exceeded beyond our initial hopes, and we thank the community for getting behind this important event aimed at providing opportunities for our students now and into the future.
The Giving Day was a resounding success, fostering a spirit of philanthropy and significantly boosting the College’s fundraising efforts.

Thank You Soirée
The Thank You Soirée was an elegant evening event held to express gratitude to the College’s generous lead supporters. It was an opportunity to acknowledge their contributions and showcase the impact of their support.
Recognition: donors were formally recognised for their contributions.
Networking: the soirée provided a platform for donors to meet and connect with each other, as well as with the College’s leadership.
The event strengthened relationships with donors and highlighted the importance of their support in enhancing the College’s educational offerings.
Annual Golf Day
The Annual Golf Day was a community event, held at Strathfield Golf Course. Participants included parents, alumni, and supporters of the College.
Golf Tournament: teams competed in a friendly yet competitive tournament, enjoying a day of sport and camaraderie.
Connections: the event provided an excellent opportunity for golfers to network and build connections within the school community.
Fundraising success: proceeds from the event supported various school programs and initiatives, contributing significantly to the College’s fundraising goals.
The Annual Golf Day strengthened community ties providing an opportunity for parents to meet other College supporters and build relationships across the College year groups.
These events reflect Santa Sabina College’s commitment to celebrating its heritage, fostering community spirit and supporting our students through various initiatives.
Named Scholarships
The introduction of Named Scholarships was a significant initiative aimed at providing financial assistance to deserving students. These scholarships were established in honour of notable individuals and families associated with the College.
Several students were awarded scholarships based on academic merit, leadership potential and financial need.
The scholarships honoured the legacy of distinguished alumni and benefactors, ensuring their contributions are remembered and celebrated.
Sr Judith Lawson OP Scholarship for Leadership – named after a former College Principal and ex-student – is open to a girl who has demonstrated significant leadership within the College and wider community.
The Maura Wilcox Scholarship –named after an ex-student – awarded
to a Year 11 student who excels in the area of science. Hillary Wilcox continues to support the College through this scholarship in honour of her late sister Maura.
The Veronique Sakr Scholarship – named after one of our students, Veronique, who was tragically taken from us – awarded to a student who would otherwise not be able to attend Santa Sabina College. This scholarship has been funded by Bridget Sakr and Craig McKenzie along with their business partner Michael Tartak through Quatre Café in Strathfield.
The Mother M Bertrand Walsh OP Scholarship – named after a Santa Sabina College pioneering Sister who was the First Prioress of the Dominican Order of Eastern Australia (from 1882) and an outstanding educator of three

generations of Dominican students. Mother M Bertrand Walsh OP together with Mother M Pius Collins OP alternated terms as Prioress, bravely guiding the congregation for 30 years. Together they founded Santa Sabina College, building the school up from a solitary house in a scrubby field with a roll call of seven students, to a thriving educational community. Mother Mary was also our first benefactor. She established the College’s first bursary in 1930 when she used the gift of £25 given to her by the Dominican ExStudents’ Association in recognition of her Diamond Jubilee to establish a fund so that a girl could complete her education at a Dominican secondary school. This two-year scholarship covers 100% of tuition fees and commenced in 2024 for a student in Year 11.
I thank the vast number of families and community members who have supported us in the various activities and initiatives held throughout the year. To all our families who have contributed to the Building Fund through school fees, and our business partners who have sponsored various events, I would like to publicly thank you for your continued support of the College.
Finally, I wish to acknowledge the very generous support from the ExStudents’ Association who led the way during the Giving Day, donating a significant amount to be a lead donor and also to our P&F Association for their very generous support once again this year.
George Ayoub Director of Development

Turning the first sod
Our most exciting building program has begun!
In November 2024, our College Principal Paulina Skerman and College Chair Kitty Guerin ceremoniously turned the first sod of the first project of our 30-year Master Plan. On our Primary campus (Del Monte) a transformation is occurring – we are creating a spectacular space dedicated to learning and contemplation. The project incorporates a new undercover rotunda, adventurous new play equipment and our contemplative space: the Rosary Garden with its Rosary Walk.
Concluding our first 130 years of providing exceptional education to girls, boys and young women, we have begun enhancing our heritage buildings with modern facilities and spaces that foster curiosity, learning and collaboration. Over the next 30 years, our thoughtful, innovative and beautiful Master Plan will bring space, light and modern functionality to the College, all reflecting our Dominican spirit and Catholic faith.
The Rosary Garden on the Primary Campus will feature a serene setting with lush greenery, vibrant flowers, and thoughtfully designed pathways,
offering a peaceful retreat for reflection and prayer. The rotunda, an elegant structure, will serve as a central hub for outdoor activities, assemblies, and community gatherings. Both the Rosary Garden and the rotunda will revitalise the primary outdoor area, providing a beautiful and functional environment where staff, students, and families can meet, play and gather for various events.
We are excited about the positive impact this transformation will have on our school community and look forward to seeing the space come to life.
We anticipate commencing the second phase of our Master Plan in 2025 – the construction of our new gymnasium and aquatic centre on the Secondary Campus. This fabulous new indoor Sports and Wellbeing Precinct will house a 25-metre heated pool and three separate courts for Basketball, Netball and Volleyball to be played at an international level. Futsal, Badminton, Fencing and PDHPE classes will also be able to utilise the centre and the gymnasium will double as the home of assemblies and gatherings of up to 2000 people or formal dinners for 600. Underground car parking and sports storage complete the picture of this
state-of-the-art health and wellbeing precinct for our students.
The State Significant Development
Application has been lodged for the Sports and Wellbeing Precinct. It is currently under consideration by the NSW Department of Planning and we look forward to receiving their approval and getting started!
We thank our many Foundation donors for their significant support of our Master Plan and commitment to fostering a nurturing and inspiring environment for our students.

A gift for the Future

You have the power to change lives.
Remembering the College specifically in your will is a lasting gift; a way of expressing your appreciation and affection for Santa Sabina, making a valuable contribution to its future. A gift, whether large or small, is one way to give back to the school that helped you become the person you are – the best person you could possibly be. A bequest is an opportunity that will impact future generations of Santa Sabina students.
Honouring the past and making your mark on the future
Throughout our history Santa Sabina students have enjoyed the generosity of those who came before them. A strong culture of philanthropy in our community ensures world class opportunities for today’s students

and for many generations to come. The Orange Tree Society has been established to honour and recognise members of our community for their generosity and foresight in making a bequest to the College.
How your gift will make a difference
Your contribution will enable building works, facilities, and programs or scholarships for girls with great

potential, who otherwise would be unable to access our quality education.
Benefits of a bequest
Your generous support will:
• help Santa Sabina College to continue to remain at the forefront of education in Sydney, building resilience and strength of character in our quest to deliver an outstanding learning experience which will prepare our students for the opportunities and challenges of tomorrow
• provide a legacy to serve as inspiration for others
• change lives for generations to come.
A bequest may be in the form of money, real estate, stock, shares, artworks or goods.
These gifts can be made as follows:
• a percentage of the value of your estate
• the residue of the estate ‘what is left of your estate’ after your family and other beneficiaries have been provided for
• a specified amount of money
• shares, insurance policies or property.
