Message from the College Principal

As we reflect on the year 2025, I am delighted to share a story of remarkable growth and achievement at Santa Sabina College – made possible through the generosity and belief of our donor community.
This publication pays tribute to our donors and supporters, celebrating the transformative impact of their contributions. Among the year’s highlights is the opening of our beautiful new Rosary Garden, Rotunda and play area at Del Monte – brought to life through the incredible support of current families, staff and alumni. The redevelopment of our Primary Campus marked a joyful milestone. The vibrant new gathering spaces and play

areas have already enriched the daily lives of our youngest students, sparking curiosity, creativity and connection. The laughter and energy that now fill these natural outdoor environments are a testament to the power of thoughtful design and community spirit.
Our scholarship programs continue to thrive, offering life-changing opportunities to students who bring talent, passion and promise to our College. These scholarships embody our shared commitment to educational equity and the belief that every student deserves the opportunity to flourish.
We are now embarking on the next step of the first stage of our Master Plan –an ambitious new Sports and Aquatic
Centre and associated facilities that will redefine the Santa Sabina campus.
Your support enables us to build more than just facilities – it allows us to build futures. On behalf of the entire Santa Sabina community, thank you for your continued generosity and partnership. As we move forward, we invite you to remain part of this journey, helping us bring our Master Plan to life.
Together, in this Catholic Jubilee Year of Hope, we are shaping a legacy of excellence, inclusion and optimism for generations to come.

Message from the Chair of the Foundation

At Santa Sabina College, giving is about continuity; ensuring the values and opportunities that define this College continue to evolve for the students of today and tomorrow.

The Santa Sabina College Foundation Limited is the philanthropic arm of Santa Sabina College. It was formally established in May 2014 and is registered as a charity with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission.

As I begin my role as Chair of the Foundation, my focus is clear: to strengthen the connection between generosity and impact. The Foundation exists to make sure that what matters most to families, alumni, parents and staff – opportunity, wellbeing and belonging – is supported through tangible outcomes.
Some of our families have deep, multigenerational ties to Santa Sabina, while others are just beginning their journey as part of this special
community. Regardless of when that connection began, we all share the same hope; that every student has access to the best possible education and the richest possible experience. For some, that means seeing impact now – opportunities, programs and facilities that enhance their children’s school years. For others, it’s about building something lasting that future generations will inherit.
The Foundation’s role is to bring those aspirations together, funding what fees alone cannot. Philanthropy enables the exceptional, scholarships that change lives, programs that spark curiosity and infrastructure that helps students flourish. It ensures Santa Sabina
remains a place of possibility, purpose and pride.
We know that generosity looks different for everyone, especially in challenging times. The Foundation is focused on listening more closely, communicating more openly and creating genuine ways for our community to shape what comes next.
Whether through time, ideas or donations, every act of giving counts. Together, we can make sure Santa Sabina continues to thrive – not just for today’s students, but for the generations still to come.

Message from the Director of Development

The power of giving: a legacy of faith, community and excellence at Santa Sabina College
At Santa Sabina College, the spirit of giving is more than a gesture – it is a transformative force that shapes our future, deepens our faith and strengthens our community. Every gift, whether large or small, is a thread in the rich tapestry of our Dominican story, woven with love, generosity and vision.

The recent completion of our Rosary Garden stands as a testament to this spirit. Nestled within the heart of our primary campus, the garden is a sacred space of reflection, prayer and peace. It invites students, staff, families and alumni to pause, connect with their spirituality and find solace in nature’s quiet beauty. The Rosary Garden is a living symbol of our Dominican heritage – where contemplation meets action and faith inspires purpose.
This garden was made possible through the generosity of our community. Each contribution was an act of faith in our mission and a commitment to nurturing the spiritual lives of future generations. The Rosary Garden reminds us
that giving is not just about building structures – it’s about cultivating spaces where hearts are opened, minds are inspired and souls are nourished.
As we celebrate this milestone, we also look ahead with excitement to the impending construction of our Sports & Aquatic Centre – a bold step forward in our commitment to holistic education. This state-of-the-art facility will empower our students to pursue excellence in physical wellbeing, teamwork and personal growth. It will be a place where resilience is built, friendships are forged and dreams are chased.
We are eager to see the Sports & Aquatic Centre come to fruition.

It promises our students that their potential will be nurtured in every dimension: intellectually, spiritually, emotionally and physically. It reflects our belief that education is not confined to classrooms, but flourishes in every corner of our College.
This vision is coming to life because of the unwavering support of our donors. Your generosity is laying the foundation for a future where Santa Sabina students are equipped to lead with courage, compassion and conviction. You are investing in young people who will go on to shape the world with integrity and purpose.
In giving, we become part of something greater than ourselves. We become
stewards of our Dominican values and champions of student potential. Your impact will echo through generations, in every prayer whispered in the Rosary Garden and every victory celebrated in the Sports & Aquatic Centre.

Thank you for your support. Together, we are creating a legacy of faith, community and excellence that will endure for years to come.
George Ayoub Director of Development
Towards the end of 2025 the Foundation offered two transformative scholarship opportunities for new Year 10 students starting in 2026.
These scholarships – The Sr Judith Lawson op Leadership
Scholarship and The Mother M Bertrand op Scholarship – are designed to empower young women who may not otherwise have access to the exceptional education and enriching experiences that Santa Sabina College provides.
I look forward to bringing you the stories of the new scholarship recipients in the 2026 edition of Impact of Giving.
Opening of the Rotunda
On Monday 16 June 2025, Santa Sabina College celebrated the official opening and blessing of the new Rosary Garden, alongside the unveiling of the Rotunda on the Del Monte campus. This marked a significant milestone in the College’s Master Plan.
Santa Sabina College Principal, Ms Paulina Skerman warmly welcomed Mr Paul Reid, Dominican Education Australia Trustee; Mrs Kitty Guerin, College Board Chair; members of the Board; members of the College Leadership Team; Mrs Elizabeth Pooley, Ex-Students’ Association President; members of the Parents & Friends’ Association; representatives from Pier Property Corporation, our project managers; staff of m3architecture as well as our builders, Rohrig. Fr John Hayes led the Blessing Ceremony dedicating the new spaces as places of joy, peace and belonging.
The Rosary Garden, made possible through the generous contributions and support of the Santa Sabina College community, reflects the Dominican tradition of prayer and contemplation.
We are deeply grateful to all who contributed to bringing this vision to life.

THE LEGEND OF THE ORANGE TREE...
In the quadrangular enclosure at Santa Sabina on the Aventine Hill in Rome, there is an orange tree. According to a legend, in 1220 St Dominic planted the seed from which it still grows. In the 1890s, Mrs Marie Dalglish-Bellasis (née de Lauret), an ex-Dominican pupil of Maitland, visited Santa Sabina in Rome. On hearing of Marie’s Dominican education and of the new school in Strathfield, the Friar of Santa Sabina gave her a plant grafted from the original orange tree in Rome. Marie brought the orange tree back to Australia and it continues to grow and flourish in our grounds to this day.
In recognition of this everlasting connection between Santa Sabina and St Dominic himself, the College established the Orange Tree Society to honour those who decide to extend their support of the College and its mission by remembering Santa Sabina College in their will.
Sr Diana Woods OP,

The Orange Tree Society: linking generations
The Orange Tree Society has been established to honour those who decide to extend their support of the College and our mission to educate by remembering Santa Sabina College in their will. By informing the College of your intention to leave a gift in your will, you allow us to acknowledge your generosity in your lifetime. Such gifts are very personal and can be made in a variety of ways to reflect your particular wishes.
A bequest is an opportunity for you to make a special, tangible and lasting gift that will touch the lives of future Santa Sabina College students.
Your gift no matter how small or large may be in the form of money, real
Sr Diana Woods OP has a long and cherished association with the College.

Trudie Rogers, a student from 1962 to 1968, is part of a proud family tradition at Santa Sabina, with her sisters, cousins and daughter also among the alumni. Sr Diana was

her much loved College Principal. Trudie gives back to the College in many ways – as Treasurer of the ExStudents’ Association, and generously volunteering her time in the Community Relations Department and College Archives. She is also an important member of the Orange Tree Society.
Miah Cardoza, who began her Santa Sabina journey in Kindergarten, is now in Year 5. Her generation – and those to come – will benefit from the generosity of our Orange Tree Society members, whose support ensures the College’s legacy continues to thrive.
