Fun in the Sun Summer is here and we have planned a host of activities to keep you busy! Join us for these heat beating, fun filled activities - make this a summer to remember.

Senior Picnic at Howarth Park Wed July 9, 11am-3pm, $5 member/ $10 non-member, #67729 Relax in the shade with friends and enjoy a lunch of beef, turkey or veggie burgers, beverages, salads and dessert. This summer celebration is co-sponsored by the Santa Rosa Sunrise Rotary Club. Be prepared for the festivities, bring your cards, musical instrument and dancing shoes. Lunch is served at Noon. At 1:00pm, Ray Walker and his Dixieland musicians will entertain us for the balance of the day. Get your tickets early as event sells out fast and there are NO tickets sold at the park! $5.00 to members; $10 nonmembers. Remember: Membership has its rewards!

Parks Make Life Better® BASH Friday July 18, 5-10pm, FREE, Howarth Park This is a great one to bring the grandkids to! July is national Parks and Recreation Month and we are 1

hosting a full evening of celebration in Howarth Park to commemorate the occasion. The event will feature the Sonoma County Traveling Fair complete with county fair games and exhibits, a live Dixieland band and of course the Howarth Park train, carousel and petting farm will be open for guest enjoyment. Then at 8:30pm we will show a family-friendly feature movie (title TBD) on the jumbo screen out on the lawn.

Water Fitness Classes Finley Aquatic Center, Call (707) 543-3745 for times and fees Refresh in the pool while getting your exercise! This 60-minute workout uses the resistance of water to provide strength training and aerobic conditioning for people of all fitness levels. Instructor Spotlight Introducing Gloria Peck, Boomer Blast and Zumba Basics Instructor Since 1990, Gloria has been a group exercise instructor who has enjoyed helping people of all ages and fitness levels to have fun and improve their health through classes in low impact, dance and step aerobics, muscle conditioning and strength training. She has previously received certifications through YMCA and 24 Hour Fitness and currently teaches at 24 Hour Fitness, Santa Rosa Parks and Recreation Department, subs at Montecito Club, and is a certified Zumba instructor.

and previously worked as a sensory scientist helping major food companies, wineries, and breweries to test and develop consumer products.

In her younger years, she enjoyed doing ballet and jazz and is now an avid ballroom and Argentine Tango dancer. She loves to share her passion for dance by teaching ballroom dancing to youth through seniors in the community and doing wedding dance lessons and choreography.

Around Town Council on Aging Congregate Meals at Bennett Valley Senior Center

Council on Aging provides 13 congregate meal dining sites in Sonoma County where 350 meals are served daily. All seniors 60 years of age and older are welcome, along with their spouses or caregivers of any age.

Council on Aging of Sonoma County, a private non-profit, was established over 40 years ago to serve local seniors.

Tips to live drought friendly The City of Santa Rosa is asking the community to reduce water use by 20%. Together we can help extend our water supply through this drought.

The Recreation and Parks Department is also doing its part to cut back. For the past two seasons, the department has been practicing deficit irrigation for park greens to optimize water usage and will continue this practice this year. The department has also made repairing irrigation problems a priority to minimize waste. In addition to these efforts, the Department will reduce water use in our recreation activities by reducing the hours of the water play feature at Howarth Park (weekends only) and eliminating high volume water-use activities, such as slip and slides at our summer
