Peripheral Neuropathy Breakthrough!

I was so depressed "

Fortunately, Frankie would eventually see Dr Milligan on the local news talking about similar symptoms and how she offers a real solution at Sage Point Acupuncture "I just knew I had to see her. She was my last hope."

"Almost all of our patients come to us with a story similar to Frankie's They've been everywhere else They've been told there s no hope They've been told it s just part of getting older'," shares Taylor, a Patient Care Technician at Sage Point Acupuncture "It just breaks my heart, but I know how much we can help people like Frankie, so I'm always so happy when they walk through our door "

"I just can't say enough about Sage Point," Frankie shared through tears of joy "My husband and I moved here 3 years ago, he walks down to the Jetty and along the beach almost every evening I always stayed home because of the pain and discomfort Yesterday, I walked with him! Next week we re starting dance lessons I am truly living life these days "

"My feet feel like they're on fire." "Each step feels like I'm walking through wet paint " "I live in constant fear that I'll fall." "I can't sleep, my hands and feet tingle all night "

What do all these people have in common? They suffer from peripheral neuropathy. It's estimated that more than 20 million people in the United States have peripheral neuropathy Unfortunately, this figure may be significantly higher as the disease is often misdiagnosed because of its wide array of symptoms

Dr Lauren Milligan of Sage Point Acupuncture & Integrative Medicine in Venice, FL shares this belief "I ve been treating neuropathy in all its various forms, for years and so often my patients come to me because of the symptoms, not because of a diagnosis They saw one of my television appearances or read the testimonial of another patient and say to themselves, 'Hey, I feel the same thing'."

Those diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy often face a very grim reality: Western medicine declares that there is no solution while most alternative therapies carry large price tags and offer little to no resolve Which is why Dr Milligan and the staff at Sage Point Acupuncture pride themselves on being 'the last resort with the best results'.

"According to Frankie's test results, she has seen a 74% improvement in pain and functionality, which is on par with a majority of our patients " shares Taylor, "But more important than those test results is the joy she s expressed being here and hearing about all the amazing things she's able to do because she feels great!"

By seamlessly blending the ancient science of acupuncture with modern medical solutions, Dr Milligan has achieved a 90% success rate in reversing the effects of neuropathy She starts each patient with an initial consultation during which a sensory exam is performed "This not only aids in making a proper diagnosis, but it helps to define just how much nerve damage has occurred" tells the doctor "This is important because if a patient has suffered more than 95% damage, there is little that I can do to help them I'm familiar with the medical miracle, but I know my limits as a practitioner and the limits of my medicine "

When comes to your a neuropathy years

Frankie M of Venice testified to this "I remember my husband driving me to my consultation and I saw a woman running just outside our neighborhood I was so envious - I just kept thinking 'I would give anything just to walk again' My primary care doctor told me my troubles with pain and balance were just symptoms of old age and gave me a prescription

nerves begin deteriorate, they continue until are completely expired leaving suffering is necessaril thing "

Peripheral neuropathy is a result of damage to the nerves and this damage is commonly caused by lack of blood flow in the hands and feet A lack of blood flow results in a lack of nutrients; the nerves then begin to degenerate and die which causes pain ranging from discomfort to debilitation Because neuropathy is a degenerative condition, once those nerves begin to deteriorate, they continue to do so until they are completely expired, leaving those suffering with crippling balance issues "In this case, the absence of pain is not necessarily a good thing," shares Dr Milligan "This usually indicates that your nerves are hanging on by a fragile thread "

So how exactly is Dr Milligan able to reverse the effects of this degenerative disease? "Acupuncture has been used to increase blood flow for thousands of years which helps to get the necessary nutrients to the affected nerves But the real magic happens when I integrate ATP Resonance BioTherapy® This is based off the tech that was originally developed by NASA to expedite recovery and healing "

When it comes to treating peripheral neuropathy, regardless of its origin, early detection greatly improves your chances of a full recovery

If you or someone you love are suffering with chronic pain that presents as burning, tingling or pins and needles', or you've recently been diagnosed with peripheral neuropathy, it is important to know that there are options

There is hope.

Englewood Unplugged

I usually spend my column time reviewing movies: dark theaters, popcorn, and the occasional questionable sequel. But every now and then, real life deserves top billing. Let’s talk local music.

Around here, music isn’t just a seasonal thing; it’s a year-round condition. Of course, during Season, when the breeze turns downright polite, Englewood hums with guitars, drums, and harmonies from every angle. And when summer rolls back around, the beat only gets hotter. Nearly every night of the week, somebody’s strumming, drumming, or crooning. Here’s my quick tour of the local haunts that keep the rhythm going.

Sundays: As the sun dips toward the Gulf, the Englewood Sunday Drum Circle takes over the north end of Englewood Beach. An hour before sunset (weather permitting), the sand starts to shake with rhythm as drummers, dancers, and sunsetwatchers gather for one of the most joyful spectacles around. Parking’s finally open (and at least for now, free), the vibe’s alive, and everyone’s welcome. Just bring your good energy and a comfy chair. (Info: 262-7073513.)

Mondays: The week kicks off easy with the Monday Music Jamboree at Indian Mound Park. The sign at the end of Winson Avenue promises “Free Music, Free Fun,” and it delivers. Around 5 p.m., locals and snowbirds alike unfold their beach chairs, tap their toes, and let the evening breeze do the rest.

Tuesdays: The Open Studio Garden Party Open MicNowhere else around captures that Old Florida vibe quite like The Open Studio at 380 Old Englewood Road, just north of Dearborn. Where Tuesday evenings come alive. As organizer Troy Milburn puts it, it’s “a place for music, food, creativity and community.” Every Tuesday from 4 p.m until the party winds down (around 9), musicians gathers to perform, surrounded by nature’s beauty, a professional sound system, and one of the most welcoming crowds you’ll ever meet. Expect acoustic and electric sets, original songs, spontaneous collaborations, and sometimes a communal bonfire flickering nearby. Coolers are welcome, and every genre, from folk to funk to the occasional ukulele confession, has a home here. For updates or text reminders, follow their Facebook page or call/text 802473-0808

Wednesdays: Midweek means it’s time to tune those guitars for the Cowboy Chord Club at Veterans Park on Lemon Bay, at the end of W. Dearborn Street.

From 10:30 a.m. to noon, local pickers gather to strum through “three chords and the truth.” Whether you play a mean C-D-G or just want to hum along, you’ll fit right in. Check them out on Facebook.

Also Wednesdays: WEDNESDAYS@5When the sun goes down, WEDNESDAYS@5 at the Old Florida Outdoor Center and Gallery (463 W. Dearborn St.) keeps the rhythm rolling. It’s a free, community-backed showcase of Englewood’s homegrown talent, set under the kind of sky that practically demands a cold drink in hand. Follow them on Facebook for updates.

Thursdays: Farmers Markets and Street Music - Thursdays on Dearborn Street come with their own soundtrack, as musicians are scattered among the vendors from Dearborn Market to Culture Coffee and Whimsy Boutique Markets. Local musician John Munn remembers when things were quieter:

“When I first moved to Englewood, there wasn’t much sidewalk music going on. Just the group Gottfried Creek in front of the Old Florida Gallery on Thursday’s Farmers Market. Almost ten years later, the street is teeming with sidewalk music. That’s one of the unique things that I love about Englewood. It has blossomed and I am a part of that music scene.”

Thursday Nights: The magic returns every Thursday with

Longer, intimate performances from seasoned regional and visiting musicians, many of whom you may have first heard on Tuesday, fill the air from 4 p.m. until close. Guests can relax under the stars, connect with friends, enjoy food, and soak in that unmistakable Old Florida charm. Tips for the artists are appreciated, and for text reminders, call or text 802473-0808. 380 Old Englewood Road.

Fridays: Culture Coffee

Open Mic - Things heat up at Culture Coffee from 5 to 9 p.m. for Open Mic Night. All ages and all abilities are welcome. Add a full menu, beer, wine, and desserts, and you’ve got a recipe for a perfect Englewood Friday. No cover, no ego, just friends supporting friends. Owner and musician Dan says it best: “Englewood has a unique and thriving music scene… it has such a large community of talented musicians and artists. It’s exciting to have the opportunity to offer Culture Coffee as a space to foster growth within the community. Being both a musician who plays throughout town as well as a business owner who books live music really allows me to have a hand in meeting and supporting all sorts of artists.” Culture Coffee also hosts live music Thursday–Sunday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Full schedule: culturecoffeefl.com/events, 405 W. Dearborn St., (941) 460-8542.

…And Beyond: Cross the bridge and you’ll hit The Bean Depot Cafe & Museum in Port Charlotte, where live music fills the air most nights, including a bluegrass jam every Wednesday. It’s worth the drive. And rumor has it, the hot dogs alone deserve an encore. 370 Garden Rd, Port Charlotte. 941-2350928.

Restaurants, Bars & the Nightlife Beat: In addition to scheduled events, Englewood’s restaurants and bars are mini music venues all their own. Waterfront patios, cozy taverns, open-air decks… any night of the week, you can stumble onto a guitarist chasing the sunset or a singer belting out an old tune. These spots keep the party going, offering some of the best local talent in an atmosphere built for lingering with a cold drink or plate of something delicious.

Ask any local and they’ll tell you: Englewood doesn’t wait for the weekend or the right season to make music. From the mild days of winter to the sticky heart of summer, there’s always a tune drifting on the breeze.

And while most of this entertainment is free, don’t forget to tip your musicians for many, it’s the only pay they receive for the art they share so generously.

See you at the drum circle; just don’t make me play the bongos. The Mister says my abilities are “still under review.”

Fun By The Numbers

Like puzzles? Then you’ll love sudoku. This mind-bending puzzle will have you hooked from the moment you square off, so sharpen your pencil and put your sudoku savvy to the test!

Here’s How It Works:

Sudoku puzzles are formatted as a 9x9 grid, broken down into nine 3x3 boxes. To solve, the numbers 1 through 9 must fill each row, column and box. Each number can appear only once in each row, column and box. You can figure out the order in which the numbers will appear by using the numeric clues already provided in the boxes. The more numbers you name, the easier it gets to solve the puzzle!

Give a Shelter Pet a Mini Vacation

Life in the shelter is safe and loving, but nothing compares to new adventures, quiet time, and one-on-one companionship.

Sarasota County’s Animal Services is inviting the community to take part in two short-term foster programs designed to give dogs a muchneeded break and help them shine for potential adopters. With Doggie Day Out, participants can treat a pup to a fun day of walks, beach time, naps, or even a special “pup stop” for a treat before returning them to the shelter. For those seeking a little more time, the Weekend Warrior program allows families to welcome a dog into their home for a short stay filled with snuggles, walks, and relaxation. Both programs provide valuable insight into each dog’s personality outside the shelter, helping staff make the perfect adoption match while giving participants the joy of making a difference. To learn more visit humane.org or call 941•474•7887 ext. 413.

Donations of clothes and housewares are needed to help the animals. EARS Animal Rescue’s Thrift Store is the shelter’s main source of income. We are a 501c3 non-profit organization, so any donation is tax deductible.
