By Sam Catanzaro Police prevented an individual from jumping off a parking structure in downtown Santa Monica Sunday morning. At 11:22 a.m. on Sunday, September 29 the Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD) posted a tweet saying to avoid the area near the 1400 block of 4th street where a distraught individual was on the roof of Parking Structure 3 located at 1320 4th Street.

Muir Woods Mural Future Uncertain SMMUSD considering painting over Jane Golden mural at Olympic High School By Keldine Hull On October 17, Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District (SMMUSD) board members are expected to discuss
the potential removal of the Muir Woods mural. The future of the mural was originally scheduled for discussion during an October 3 meeting in Malibu. The Muir Woods mural was painted in 1978 on the walls of the John Muir Elementary School at the corner of Lincoln Boulevard and Ocean Park Boulevard. The school relocated to another campus in Santa Monica over 20 years ago and eventually became Olympic High School.

At 11: 45 a.m. the SMPD said that officers had resolved the situation. “The Crisis Negotiations Team is on scene and made contact with a distraught individual on the roof of Structure 3 near Arizona and 4th. The individual is now safe and in police custody,” the SMPD said in a tweet. This is the fifth time an individual has jumped or attempted to jump off a downtown Santa Monica parking structure in the past year. On August 26 a man died by suicide by jumping off Parking Structure 2. In April 2019, a man died by suicide after jumping from the parking structure at Broadway Avenue and 4th Street Thursday. September 2018, a man jumped off Parking Structure 4 and in December 2018, a woman died after jumping off the same structure.
Suspected Armed Robber Escapes SM Police Search Man approaches person in car with gun Wednesday night By Sam Catanzaro After a suspected armed robber approached a person inside a car near in the North of Montana area of Santa Monica Wednesday night a police search ensued with the suspect escaping law enforcement. According to the Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD) around 9 p.m. on Wednesday, October 2 a male suspect approached a person who was inside their
car near Montana Avenue and 20th Street. When the victim saw what they believed to be a weapon, they drove off and called the police. The suspect fled the area. According to SMPD Lieutenant Candice Cobarrubias, the suspect had a black handgun with an unknown caliber type. A manhunt took place searching for the suspect but according to the SMPD, he fled the scene and was not found. According to Cobarrubias, the search area was between 20th Street and 23rd Street and Montana Avenue and Carlyle Avenue. “It was a relatively large area to search but we went that large because the suspect was mobile in a 4 door sedan,” Cobarrubias said. Nobody was injured says the SMPD.
