Palisades Fire Over Half Contained 45-acre brush fire at 55 percent containment as firefighters prepare for wind. By S am C atanzaro

After relentless work by firefighters, the Palisades Fire remains at 45 acres and 55 percent contained as of 9:00 a.m. Thursday and while Santa Ana winds were weaker than expected overnight, gusts up to 50 MPH are still anticipated and the Los Angeles Fire Department is advising residents to be prepared to evacuate if told to do so.
The Palisades Fire broke out around 10:30 a.m. Monday, October 21. The fire’s initial location was corrected by the LAFD Tuesday to 800 N Palisades Drive from 500 N Palisades Drive. As of Thursday morning, the structures previously threatened and evacuated remains at 628, while structures with damage is reported at eight, according to the LAPD. There has been no loss of human life or structures destroyed by this blaze. “Fortunately, the anticipated overnight Santa Ana winds were weaker than expected, and firefighters were able to take advantage, holding the containment lines with no spot fires. Officer-Involved Shooting Occurs in SM SMPD shoots man near the beach. By Sam Catanzaro An officer-involved shooting that ended in a possible death by suicide occurred last Sunday night in the Ocean Park neighborhood of Santa Monica. According to the Santa Monica Police Department (SMPD) on October 20, 2019 at 11:50 pm, SMPD officers were in the area of Ocean Avenue and Bicknell Avenue when they heard two gunshots coming from the
area of the 000 block of Bay Street. Officers respond to the area to investigate and were directed to a male subject who had just shot into an occupied vehicle. According to the SMPD, officers made contact with the suspect who failed to comply with commands. The suspect fled on foot, running southwest onto the sand. Officers engaged in a foot pursuit when the suspect produced a handgun and an officer-involved shooting occurred. The SMPD says a preliminary investigation indicates the suspect suffered a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The suspect was pronounced at the scene. Victims inside the occupied vehicle were not struck by gunfire or injured in the inci-
dent, according to the SMPD. The investigation is still ongoing and the SMPD says there is no more information currently available. “There will be no Press Information Officer to speak on this today. Information in the press releases will be all the information we are providing at this time.
