Lake Arrowhead Clothing Store Owner Tragically Killed Over Pride Flag Display Clothing Designer’s Life Cut Short in a Shocking Act of Violence By Dolores Quintana A California clothing store owner and designer, Laura Ann Carleton, tragically lost her life in a horrifying incident where she was allegedly shot by a gunman who confronted her about a Pride flag displayed outside her business. The shooting occurred in Cedar Glen, an unincorporated community in San Bernardino County, situated along the picturesque shores of Lake Arrowhead, as reported by the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office. Laura Ann Carleton, the mother of nine
children, was fatally shot on Friday in front of her clothing store. The suspected assailant, whose identity had not been disclosed publicly, fled the scene of the crime on foot. However, law enforcement officers located the individual in close proximity to Carleton’s store, leading to a fatal confrontation during which sheriff’s deputies shot the gunman. The assailant was reportedly armed with a handgun and failed to comply with orders to drop the weapon. The sheriff’s office provided the following statement regarding the incident: “When deputies attempted to contact the suspect, a lethal force encounter occurred, and the suspect was pronounced deceased.” No deputies sustained injuries during the incident. The fatal shooting occurred at approximately 5 p.m. on Friday, with the sheriff’s office revealing that the suspect had made derogatory remarks about a Pride flag displayed outside Carleton’s store before carrying out the shooting. On her store’s official website, Laura
Ann Carleton shared details of her lifelong involvement in the fashion industry, which began during her teenage years. She pursued formal education in design at the ArtCenter College of Design in Pasadena, California, before embarking on a successful career in fashion design. Her professional journey included more than 15 years of service with Kenneth Cole Productions, where she ultimately rose to an executive position. The website also highlighted Laura Ann Carleton’s commitment to family, as she had been married to her husband for 28 years and was the proud mother of a blended family of nine children, including identical twin girls. While Carleton and her husband maintained a residence in the Los Angeles neighborhood of Studio City, they also owned a cabin on the picturesque Lake Arrowhead. Director Paul Feig said on his Instagram page, “Our wonderful friend Lauri Carlton (seen in this picture) was murdered yesterday in her store @magpi_shop in Lake Arrowhead
by a 27-year-old man who didn’t like that she had a large pride flag hanging outside of her shop. He ripped it down, and when she confronted him about it, he shot and killed her.”

At approximately 12:38 A.M., the victim was walking along the sidewalk when a black SUV suddenly came to a halt directly in front of him. Armed with handguns and a rifle, three assailants emerged from the vehicle, swiftly approaching the victim. The perpetrators forcefully pushed the victim against a fence,
seizing his cell phone and wallet before fleeing the scene. This robbery transpired on the 800 block of Larrabee Street in West Hollywood. Suspect in the Murder of the Mag Pi Store Owner, Has Been Identified
Community Mourns Loss of Laura Ann Carleton, Victim of Homophobic Attack By Dolores Quintana Travis Ikeguchi was identified as the suspect in the murder of Lauri Carlton in Cedar Glen, an unincorporated community close to Lake Arrowhead. According to the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Department, Ikeguchi “made several disparaging remarks about a rainbow flag that stood outside the store before shooting Carleton.” Differing accounts say that Ikeguchi also tore down the flag, and one of her daughters stated that it was not the first time that the flag had been torn down, but each time, her mother simply got a bigger Pride flag to replace it. According to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Office, the assailant, Travis Ikeguchi, was armed with an unregistered Smith & Wesson 9mm semi-automatic handgun. After allegedly shooting Carleton, he fled the crime scene on foot but was eventually located by sheriff’s deputies at Torrey Road and Rause Rancho Road. During the confrontation, the deputies fatally shot Ikeguchi after he reportedly shot at them and refused orders to drop his weapon. Ikeguchi died at the scene. This tragic event happened on Friday, August 18, at 5:00 p.m., prompting an outpouring of grief and condemnation. California Governor Gavin Newsom expressed his condolences,
denouncing the hateful act and emphasizing that such “disgusting hate has no place in CA.” Designer Kenneth Cole acknowledged her as a friend and a long-time associate of his company. He lamented her loss as an “unnecessary and tragic death.” The local LGBTQ+ community, through the Lake Arrowhead LGBTQ organization, paid tribute to Carleton, describing her as a strong supporter of LGBTQ+ rights. They wrote in a statement, “Today was a very sad day for Lake Arrowhead and for the LGBTQ community. Our friend and supporter Lauri Carleton... was murdered defending her LGBTQ+ Pride flags in front of her store in Cedar Glen, California. Lauri did not identify as LGBTQ+ but spent her time helping & advocating for everyone in the community. She will be truly missed.” San Bernardino County Supervisor Dawn Rowe also expressed her grief, condemning the “senseless act of hate and violence” and standing in solidarity with the mountain communities mourning this devastating loss. Rowe emphasized that everyone deserves to live free of hate and discrimination and practice their constitutional right of freedom of speech. Sarah Kate Ellis, President and CEO of GLAAD, released a statement highlighting the senseless nature of Carleton’s killing and its connection to a concerning rise in antiLGBTQ threats and attacks nationwide. She emphasized that nobody should feel unsafe or be subjected to violence for their identity or for supporting the LGBTQ+ community. The tragic event serves as a somber reminder that anti-LGBTQ hatred affects everyone, whether LGBTQ+ or an ally and does not align with the values of the majority of Americans.

Charges Dropped for Trans Man Arrested by LA County Sheriff’s Deputy in High-Profile Incident
Emmett Brock’s Case Dismissed; Advocates Continue To Press For LASD Investigation By Dolores Quintana In February, Emmett Brock, a trans man and public school teacher, was stopped by a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Deputy after parking in a 7-11 parking lot in Whittier which escalated into a violent arrest. As the video footage capturing the incident emerged, the LGBTQ+ community united to demand justice for Brock. The Los Angeles LGBT Center issued a press release after the incident came to light. It said, “Recently, video footage surfaced that shows a Los Angeles County Sheriff’s deputy violently beating an unarmed trans man under the pretense of a routine traffic stop. The Los Angeles LGBT Center is calling for the immediate suspension of Deputy Joseph Benza pending a full investigation of this incident. In the video, we see Emmett Brock, a 23-year-old high school teacher, being pinned down and beaten by Deputy Benza—despite showing no immediate signs of resisting arrest.
Shockingly, the purported reason for Brock’s traffic stop was that he had an air freshener hanging in his rearview mirror. Brock suffered a concussion and lost his job as a result of the attack—and he still faces charges of resisting arrest and battery on an officer, despite evidence to the contrary. Brock also described a horrifying encounter while being taken into custody in which he was forced to “prove” his gender identity by showing his genitalia to officers.” The LGBT Center’s Facebook posted an update on Friday about the case and said, “Emmett Brock recently confirmed that all charges against him have been dropped, leading to the District Attorney’s office dismissing the case. This development has provided a glimmer of hope and relief to Brock and his supporters who rallied behind him. From the moment the video footage unveiled the violent arrest, members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies swiftly rallied to lend their support to Brock’s cause. The incident not only underscored concerns about police brutality but also highlighted the specific vulnerabilities that transgender individuals face during interactions with law enforcement.” The Center’s Facebook post added, “We stand with Emmett Brock and will continue to support him while following the ongoing investigation into the Sheriff’s Department.”

Striking Hotel Workers Rally and File Unfair Labor Practice Charge Against Hotel Bargaining Group City Council Member Jesse Zwick Asks Local Hotel For Answers About Viral Video By Dolores Quintana Unite Here Local 11 announced the filing of an Unfair Labor Practice charge against the Coordinated Bargaining Group, a body that represents several of Los Angeles’ unionized hotel employers, including Hyatt, Hilton, IHG, and Marriott, on August 7, 2023, after a rally in Downtown Los Angeles. The action aims to condemn a disturbing pattern of violence witnessed on picket lines during the ongoing strike. Over the weekend, striking workers organized a peaceful march in Santa Monica, which ended at the Fairmont Miramar Hotel and Bungalows. However, the event turned violent when
hotel security tackled workers and their supporters seeking to establish a picket line. Videos of these confrontations have gone viral, prompting public outrage. Santa Monica City Council member Jesse Zwick retweeted the video, saying, “Workers have a first amendment right to protest. I want answers, @FairmontMiramar.” A similar episode of violence unfolded at the Maya Hotel in Long Beach, where hotel security, including a manager, attempted to relocate striking workers using a chainlink fence forcibly. During the altercation, a guest reportedly punched a worker in the head and shoved others. The Laguna Cliffs Marriott Dana Point was also the site of disturbing incidents. In another alarming incident, John Tesar, a chef associated with the Laguna Cliffs’ Knife Modern Steak restaurant, reportedly approached striking workers and damaged a drum held by one of them. Tesar allegedly directed derogatory and offensive language toward the workers, further fueling tensions. As part of the ongoing strike, thousands of
workers from 46 hotels across Los Angeles and Orange Counties continue protesting. During a July 18 bargaining session, the hotel industry’s proposal raised concerns as it did not include any wage increase. Moreover, the hotels abruptly ended the session after the bargaining committee demanded that temporary replacement workers, many of whom were Black, be permanently hired. The ongoing labor unrest has generated significant attention, leading to event cancellations by entities such as the Democratic Governors Association, the Japanese American Citizens League, the
W.K. Kellogg Foundation, and the reality T.V. series “Vanderpump Rules.” The so-called “Taylor Swift Lift” has also driven up room rates, significantly benefiting hotels. Amidst this backdrop, more than 50 elected officials, including Lieutenant Governor of California Eleni Kounalakis, L.A. County Supervisor Janice Hahn, and L.A. City Councilmember Hugo Soto-Martínez has lent their voice to the workers’ call for Taylor Swift to postpone her shows until hotel workers are paid a fair wage.

Care Health Plan is set to host its first blood drive since the recent FDA and American Red Cross policy change, eliminating sexual orientation-related questions for blood donation eligibility. This progressive step is expected to alleviate the recurring summer blood shortage. The revised policy, implemented on August 7th, now focuses on an individual
donor’s assessment, irrespective of their gender or sexual orientation. This change in approach is anticipated to help meet the crucial demand for blood during the customary summer shortages, which have posed challenges in maintaining adequate supplies of lifesaving blood products for individuals dealing with high-risk medical conditions such as high-risk births, cancer, sickle cell disease, or trauma resulting from accidents. L.A. Care Health Plan, committed to promoting LGBTQIA+ inclusivity, views this policy shift as a significant stride towards welcoming a broader spectrum of donors, ultimately contributing to saving lives. Terry Brown, Chief of Human Resources Officer at L.A. Care Health Plan, expressed his enthusiasm, stating, “This will be the first time in decades that I’ve been able to donate blood at my own blood drive, and I couldn’t be more excited.” Brown, who identifies as gay, has overseen L.A. Lisa Vanderpump Relocates PUMP Restaurant in West Hollywood to a Familiar Location
Vanderpump and Husband Ken Todd To Transform TomTom’s Garden Bar By Dolores Quintana Reality TV personality and restauranteur Lisa Vanderpump, who was once a Real Housewife and now produces and stars in Vanderpump Rules, is relocating her West Hollywood restaurant, PUMP, to a different spot close to its original location. This shift comes after the restaurant closed in July due to disputes with the landlord. TMZ broke the story. PUMP, which is Lisa Vanderpump’s third Los Angeles area restaurant, had initially announced its closure in May 2023. Vanderpump cited a significant rent increase as
the reason for their decision, stating, “Another 10-year lease with a huge increase in rent by the landlords is not something we are ready to commit to,” in a statement to People Magazine at the time. Consequently, the restaurant ceased operations on July 5. In a recent interview, People Magazine quoted Vanderpump, alongside her husband, Ken Todd, as revealing their plans to install PUMP into the Garden Bar space at TomTom. The staff at PUMP will come over to the new version of PUMP. Many of these loyal employees have worked at PUMP for over a decade. Vanderpump shared with TMZ that the Garden Bar space didn’t have a strong identity, so they intend to infuse it with some of PUMP’s most popular food and drink items, which were a hallmark of PUMP. She further explained that TomTom has a more relaxed bar menu, while Pump is recognized as a standalone sit-down restaurant. This move allows both establishments to coexist harmoniously, offering patrons a diverse culinary experience.

Alice Cooper’s Makeup Line Dropped After Controversial AntiTrans Comments By Dolores Quintana Alice Cooper’s makeup products, which were launched in partnership with Vampyre Cosmetics, have been removed from the cosmetics brand’s website following the rock singer’s recent controversial comments regarding transgender issues. In an interview published by Stereogum, Cooper expressed his views on medical care for transgender youth, raising concerns and using common antitrans rhetoric. Vampyre Cosmetics states on its website that the brand is “women-owned, disabled-owned, and LGBT+ owned.” Cooper questioned the best-practice medical care for transgender youth, stating that he believed it might be a passing trend. He expressed skepticism about children’s ability to make decisions about their gender identity, saying, “I find it wrong when you’ve got a
6-year-old kid who has no idea. He just wants to play, and you’re confusing him by telling him, ‘Yeah, you’re a boy, but you could be a girl if you want to be.” He went on to make an analogy involving identifying as a tree, suggesting that the situation had become absurd. It’s important to note that research has shown that genderaffirming care significantly reduces depression and suicide rates among transgender youth. Cooper also made controversial comments about access to public bathrooms, implying that allowing transgender individuals to use facilities corresponding to their gender identity would lead to violent crimes. He expressed concerns about the potential exploitation of such policies and stated, “A guy can walk into a woman’s bathroom at any time and just say, ‘I just feel like I’m a woman today’ and have the time of his life in there… Somebody’s going to get raped.” In response to Cooper’s remarks, Vampyre Cosmetics issued a statement on social media, announcing the termination of their makeup collaboration with the singer. Contentious Anti-LGBTQ+ Protests Take Place Outside of Los Angeles City Hall and LAUSD Headquarters “Leave Our Kids Alone” Wants To Ban LGBTQ+ Content In LAUSD Schools By Dolores Quintana Three individuals were taken into custody during a confrontation between protesters outside of City Hall and a Los Angeles Unified school board meeting on Tuesday, adding to the already heightened tensions surrounding LGBTQ+ rights. The LAPD estimated that the crowd was about 50+ people for each group, and they were separated from each other by the LAPD. The anti-LGBTQ+ group “Leave Our Kids Alone” organizes their protests and events on social media, namely Instagram. They repost content from Turning Point USA and other conservative groups as well as cross-posting
with the group Saticoy Elementary Parents. Saticoy Elementary Parents group is known for the protest they held outside of that school in the San Fernando Valley during Pride Month. These groups demand that the school board implement new policies, including banning LGBTQ+ content from classrooms and requiring parental notification if a child expresses transgender feelings. In response, activists from the left-wing coalition “By Any Means Necessary” organized a counterprotest against what they characterized as a “misogynistic, racist fanatics’ rally.” According to accounts from witnesses reported by KCAL and the Los Angeles Times, one protester affiliated with Leave Our Kids Alone was arrested for allegedly obstructing the intersection, leading to the police declaring the assembly unlawful. Additionally, two counter-protesters were arrested for purportedly resisting police efforts to disperse their group. The Los Angeles Police Department press release revealed that the three people who were arrested were Linda Daitsman, Robert
Maxie, and Gordon Shiva. All three had bail set at $5,000. The LAPD has faced criticism for allegedly employing more force against LGBTQ+ individuals compared to those opposing LGBTQ+ rights, as was witnessed during the

Murrieta Valley School Board Passed Mandatory Gender Identity Notification Policy Last Week Policy Identical to the One Passed Earlier This Year By Chino Valley School District By Dolores Quintana During an extended meeting, the Murrieta Valley school board endorsed a new policy on Thursday evening, August 10th, as reported by The Press-Enterprise. The policy stipulates that parents should be informed if their children express a gender identity that differs from “their assigned sex at birth.” The decision, which came through a 3-2 vote, was supported by board members Paul Diffley, Nick Pardue, and Julie Vandegrift, while Nancy Young and Linda Lunn dissented. It would essentially require the school to out students to their parents. The proposal, originally put forward by Diffley and Pardue, mirrors a policy adopted by the Chino Valley Unified School District with a 4-1 majority during a passionate and contentious meeting the previous month. The
Chino Valley policy was incorporated into the agenda materials for the Murrieta school board meeting. The policy introduced by the Murrieta Valley Unified School District mandates that school staff must notify parents or guardians within three days of learning about a student’s intention to identify or be treated as a gender different from their “biologically assigned sex or gender” as listed on official records, like birth certificates. Instances requiring parental notification include student requests to use different names and pronouns, participate in sex-segregated programs such as sports teams, or use bathrooms and changing facilities that do not “align with their biological sex.” Additionally, changes to information in student records also warrant notification. Superintendent Ward Andrus noted that the board’s vote aimed to adopt a policy similar to that of Chino Valley but with the alteration of the school district’s name. He stated that district administrators would be crafting specific regulations to clarify the policy. Notably, California Attorney General Rob Bonta initiated an investigation on August 4th into potential legal breaches related to Chino Valley’s policies. State Superintendent of Schools Tony Thurmond, who previously
opposed the Chino Valley policy, sent a letter on Thursday to the Murrieta Valley school board and superintendent, requesting the withdrawal of the proposal. Murrieta is located in Riverside County, a largely conservative area of Southern California. Five conservative school board members have recently been elected to school boards in southwest Riverside County, and Nick Pardue is one of them. According to The Press-Enterprise, his candidacy was supported by a conservative PAC. Around 60 individuals participated in the meeting on Thursday night, with the majority discussing the parental notification proposal. The opinions were evenly divided, with roughly equivalent numbers in favor and against the idea. The meeting saw a high turnout, with several law enforcement officers present. Chloe Cole, an activist who identified as transgender from ages 12 to 16, advocated for the proposal, asserting that “sex cannot be changed.” Lane McKeever, a Murrieta resident with grandchildren in the district, expressed her support for the proposed policy, emphasizing her opposition to teachers usurping the role of parents. McKeever drew from her own experience of her son’s struggles with
depression during his school years, noting that teachers had informed her about his condition. Corinne Smith, the senior class president at Murrieta Valley High School, drew attention to other districts adopting similar policies, urging supporters to think critically about their stance. Board president Paul Diffley clarified that the proposal is not intended as an attack on the LGBTQ community but emphasizes the paramount importance of the bond between students and their families. Board member Nick Pardue acknowledged that some parents may not be supportive or understanding, but he maintained that it is important not to infringe on parents’ rights because of the actions of a few. Attorney Dina Harris delved into the details of the proposed policy, discussing potential enhancements to strengthen it against legal challenges. She cited a recent federal court decision that ruled against mandating parental notification for a child’s gender identity. Shortly before the final vote, Pardue highlighted that passing the policy would communicate strong support for parental rights. Lunn, however, argued that such a decision would convey the message that students are not safe in the school environment.

Dolores Quintana: Tell me a little bit about what The Dinah is. Mariah Hanson: It’s a five-day music festival and event extravaganza geared towards queer women and their friends. Dolores Quintana: When does it take place? Is it like Coachella? MH: Honey, I could not do it two times a
for Covid. Dolores Quintana: So you had to go dark during 2020? So it’s not just for queer women. Can allies like female allies attend? MH: Of course. It’s for queer women but under the umbrella of women. First off, we don’t ask people about their sexual preferences. Anybody is welcome to The Dinah as long as all attendees recognize that this is identified as a female-centric space. We want all people who enter the doors to honor that these spaces are exclusive and they’re dwindling. So if you’re here to celebrate all things female, then you’re going to fit right in because I think that as long as people are there with that intent, we will have a fantastic event. People will honor and keep those numbers the way that they should be, which is usually 98% queer. Dolores Quintana: I wanted to bring this up

Hollywood is mostly gay clubs and spaces. I am trying to remember that there is a female nightclub in West Hollywood. MH: There’s not a seven-day-a-week club for women there. Some promoters are working really hard to create a community there. Dolores Quintana: That’s good. What gave you the idea to start The Dinah? MH: I was a natural party event producer, and I wanted to throw an event for my community. Dolores Quintana: I noticed that you have a stellar list of artists who have performed at The Dinah over the years. From what I understand, The Dinah is famous for breaking artists and getting artists to play before they can become superstars. MH: Yeah, we are known for getting our stars who are on the verge. Dolores Quintana: Princess Nokia is going to be there this year. Can you name some other artists who will be there that we should keep an eye out for? MH: All of them. We’re not putting anyone on the B-side. Every artist that we ask to perform at The Dinah, we believe, has a very good chance of becoming stratospheric. But, some ingredients need to be there in order for the artist to be successful. They have to have good management, and they have to have good representation. But those are oftentimes what makes the difference for artists. So we can’t control that variable. But every artist that we present on our stage we think is going to have the potential to be the next big thing. Dolores Quintana: You have faith in every single artist you put on the stage. MH: Of course, we wouldn’t book them if we didn’t. Dolores Quintana: I looked at the website. Is the event mostly sold out this year already? MH: What would give you that impression? Okay, our premium passes are sold out. But our festival passes aren’t sold out. The event would sell out if I limited it, and I don’t. If I gotta throw a tent out, I’ll throw a tent out. We’re not going to sell out. We’re going to make room for everybody that wants to come. Dolores Quintana: That’s great. I know a lot of times, with concerts or repertory theater screenings, most of the time, it’s about selling out. They’re trying to sell all the tickets that they have available. MH: It’s not about selling out, it’s about
LOS ANGELES 15 creating community, and making sure that they’re a space for everybody that attends. That people are seen, felt, and heard. That’s what we do. Selling out is not our goal. Creating the environment that we do is our goal. Dolores Quintana: How many events do you have for the entire weekend? MH: Let’s see. We have a Wednesday opening party, Thursday night party, Friday pool party, Friday night party, Saturday pool party, Saturday night party, and a party on Sunday. Eight events. Dolores Quintana: Okay, so eight major events, and it sounds like you have a pool party during the day and a music festival-type party at night. That’s like, it’s a long weekend. It goes from Wednesday to Sunday. Correct? MH: Yeah. Or Monday morning. Yeah. Dolores Quintana: I wanted to ask, philosophically, obviously, you’ve been doing this for 30-plus years. Do you see anything changing about the community, in general? Is it growing? Is it becoming more of a community? What are your observations about the state of the community? MH: It is becoming much more inclusive. Absolutely. And it’s wonderful to see, I think young people are impassioned and socially aware and activists in very exciting ways. Dolores Quintana: I have noticed that younger generations, a majority of the millennials, but generations, like X and Y, are really starting to be more than just open, but very comfortable with LGBTQ+ as a group, and much more willing to consider that they might not be straight. MH: I think things have gotten very fluid, I think. I think people aren’t afraid to explore. I get that, and that’s thanks to people who have really pioneered the way. But I also think, let’s not be too comfortable. Think about it. The Supreme Court just struck down Roe vs. Wade. They said that gay marriage is next. Is our work done? Absolutely not. People can’t get too comfortable. No, that’s really dangerous. We always have to be ever vigilant that the world it’s not the softest place for us. So, to get too comfortable with commingling and letting go of our spaces and living lives that aren’t connected to an LGBTQIA center lessens our strengths as a group. You’re only as strong as your weakest link. So these things are really critical for young people to understand that, yes, it’s really easy to go to a straight bar with your boyfriend or your girlfriend, and nobody’s gonna throw you
out or beat you up? Yet, I don’t think we’re far away if we’re not ever vigilant from a world where we are thrown back into the closet. S we can’t take these things for granted. We need to enjoy them and continue to fight for them because this battle is not over. There are forces that are at work in this country. Dolores Quintana: There sure are. I noticed that at Long Beach Pride, which just happened this last weekend. One of the big events they had that was new was The Drag Dome, where it was just six hours of drag performances. They brought up that they thought it was important to celebrate the community, especially because some places are trying to make being queer illegal and demonize different parts of the community. Would you agree that an event like The Dinah is one of those places where you can celebrate who you are? That it has that kind of importance that it is a reminder to the community, but also a celebration of that part of the LGBTQIA community? MH: Of course, I think that for sure. Dolores Quintana: Is there any advice you would give someone young and queer on how to stay connected to the community or navigate through life? MH: It’s always important to create networks and support systems, whether that’s your local community center, whether that’s other LGBTQIA groups in the area that you live in, or even getting to positive online resources that are helpful in navigating the very difficult coming out process or the very difficult process of being LGBTQIA in an area that’s not as supportive as other areas. I wouldn’t want to be queer in Florida when my heart goes out to them. So it’s really important to stay connected. It’s about supporting events that are supporting your community center. It is staying active and voting. Yes. I mean, it’s amazing how many people don’t vote. I would also like to talk about how powerful our LGBTQIA artists are becoming in the music industry and how easy it is for them to be out and still have a very clear trajectory to worldwide recognition. One of the things that we’re doing this year that’s really different is our two Sunday performers on the full
stage were people that we selected from our emerging artist contest last year who were so outstanding that we thought they deserved a slot on our lineup. We decided to change our program a little bit and to bring two artists every year that aren’t signed and put them on our stage. Dolores Quintana: That’s great. MH: We will be inviting agents in the industry to come see them. But this year, we gave them Sunday, which is it’s a larger audience, and it’s on our official roster, so it’s not like the emerging artist winner. You’re part of our lineup, and I’m really excited by that. I think that the difference between very successful performing artists and not-as-successful artists who are equally talented is your agent and your manager.
