CONSTRUCTION AND TECHNICAL PROGRAMS

Whether you are starting a new career or advancing in your current one, SF’s construction and technical programs have options to meet your needs, from short-term certificate programs to two-year associate degrees. With scholarships and financial aid, college is more affordable than ever.

Santa Fe College is investing in your success, with new buildings and new programs leading to in-demand fields.

On the Northwest Campus, the Ralph W. Cellon Jr. Institute for Skilled Trades and Advancement Manufacturing opened in Fall 2025 and is home to expanded programs in HVAC, and Welding, and a new Engineering Technology – Advanced Manufacturing degree program.

Also new is the Diesel Systems Technician program located at the Alachua County Public Works Department.

Coming soon is the Automotive Training and Technology Center, a state-of-the-art facility on SF’s Blount Center in downtown Gainesville, that will provide more opportunities to SF’s automotive students.

SF continues to strengthen its commitment to real-world experiences and hands-on training.

CERTIFICATES AND DEGREES DEFINED CERTIFICATE Certificate programs offer career and technical courses to prepare you for entry directly into employment. A certificate typically takes four months to two years to complete. Students may need to meet specific basic skills requirements in English, mathematics, and writing.

ASSOCIATE IN SCIENCE The Associate in Science (A.S.) degree program is designed to get you ready for a career, but in some cases it may transfer to a bachelor’s program. A.S. programs are a good balance of general education coursework and hands-on training with the end goal of preparing you to enter the workforce with a competitive skill set.

The A.S. degree typically takes two years to complete.

APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMS The apprenticeship program at SF is sponsored by the Builders Association of North Central Florida. Apprenticeships are available in carpentry, building maintenance, electrical, HVAC/R and plumbing. If you are already working in one of these fields, an apprenticeship gives you the opportunity to learn the technical aspects of your trade in the classroom while applying your skills on the job, and you will earn a guaranteed wage.

Step into a career where your success starts on day one! During your apprenticeship, you’ll earn a minimum salary of $30,000, with graduates of the program averaging $57,000 annually, based on data from the Builders Association of North Central Florida.

AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE TECHNOLOGY CERTIFICATE The Automotive Service Technology program prepares students to become career-ready automotive technicians in the automotive service industry. Learning opportunities in this program enable students to develop technical and professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement in automotive service positions.

This program’s content is delivered with traditional classroom instruction, hands-on instruction reinforced with high-tech computerized learning systems using specialized trainers, simulators, and lab work using our late-model fleet of vehicles and components.

Santa Fe College Automotive Service Technology program has a Master accreditation by the Automotive Service Excellence Education Foundation to meet the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) standards of quality.

TIME TO COMPLETION: Six semesters | AVERAGE SALARY: $49,670*

AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE MANAGEMENT TECHNOLOGY ASSOCIATE IN APPLIED SCIENCE (A.A.S.) The Automotive Service Management Technology program prepares students to become career-ready automotive technicians in the automotive service industry. Learning opportunities in this program enable students to develop academic, technical and professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement in automotive management positions.

This program’s content is delivered with traditional classroom instruction, hands-on instruction reinforced with high-tech computerized learning systems using specialized trainers, simulators, lab work using our late-model fleet of vehicles and components, and a CO-OP portion with an authorized licensed automotive repair facility.

Santa Fe College Automotive Service Management program has a Master accreditation by the Automotive Service Excellence Education Foundation to meet the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) standards of quality.

TIME TO COMPLETION: Six semesters | AVERAGE SALARY: $49,670*

DIESEL SYSTEMS TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATE The Diesel Systems Technician program prepares students to become career-ready diesel truck technicians in the diesel service industry. Learning opportunities in this program enable students to develop technical and professional knowledge and skills required for job acquisition, retention, and advancement in diesel service positions.

This program’s content is delivered with traditional classroom instruction, hands-on instruction reinforced with high-tech computerized learning systems using specialized trainers, simulators, and lab work using our late-model fleet of vehicles and components.

Santa Fe College Diesel Systems Technician program is a new program that will be seeking a Medium/Heavy Master Truck Service Technician accreditation by the Automotive Service Excellence Education Foundation to meet the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) standards of quality. Courses are held at Alachua County Public Works.

TIME TO COMPLETION: Six semesters | AVERAGE SALARY: $59,920**

HEATING, VENTILATION, AIR CONDITIONING/REFRIGERATION CERTIFICATE Heating, Ventilation, Air Conditioning/Refrigeration (HVAC/R) Technology at Santa Fe College is a certificate program that prepares students for entry-level positions in the HVAC/R industry.

HVAC/R systems control the temperature, humidity and the total air quality in residential, commercial, industrial and other buildings. The systems consist of many mechanical, electrical and electronic components, including motors, compressors, pumps, fans, ducts, pipes, thermostats and switches. Technicians must be able to perform maintenance as well as diagnose and correct problems throughout the entire system. HVAC/R technicians work in homes, supermarkets, hospitals, office buildings and factories - anywhere there is climate control equipment.

To meet the demand for skilled technicians, SF’s instructors prepare students to take the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) certification exam. Successful completion of the exam allows them to legally handle refrigerants. Many graduates of this program go on to become licensed contractors and open their own businesses.

BUILDING MAINTENANCE AND MANAGEMENT CERTIFICATE The purpose of this program is to prepare students for employment or advanced training in the building maintenance industry. Employers statewide are in desperate need of building maintenance technicians who possess the skills needed to maintain student housing complexes, retirement communities, hotel and motel facilities, schools, factories, and other commercial buildings. The Building Maintenance and Management program will specifically train students to directly meet the needs of these employers.

TIME TO COMPLETION: 11 months | AVERAGE SALARY: $48,620*

WELDING TECHNOLOGY CERTIFICATE Welding Technology at Santa Fe College is a certificate program that prepares students for entry-level positions in the welding industry. The program varies in complexity, beginning with basic welding practices and goes through the more complex applications of welding.

SF’s welding shop is an American Welding Society (AWS) accredited test facility, which affords SF students the opportunity to earn a valuable industry certification that is often preferred by employers.

TIME TO COMPLETION: Three semesters | AVERAGE SALARY: $51,000*

ADVANCED WELDING TECHNOLOGY CERTIFICATE Advanced Welding Technology at Santa Fe College is a certificate program that prepares students to expand their opportunities in the workforce with a wide variety of welding skills and certifications.

The Advanced Welding Technology program places a greater focus on pipe welding knowledge and skill development, utilizing shielded metal arc welding, gas metal arc welding (often called MIG), flux core arc welding, and gas tungsten arc welding (often called TIG).

SF’s welding shop is an American Welding Society (AWS) accredited test facility, which affords SF students the opportunity to earn a valuable industry certification that is often preferred by employers.

CONSTRUCTION MANAGEMENT TECHNOLOGY ASSOCIATE IN SCIENCE (A.S.) Construction Management Technology at Santa Fe College is an Associate in Science degree that prepares students to meet the ever-growing challenges in the construction industry.

Accredited by the American Council for Construction Education (ACCE), this program teaches the comprehensive skills required to become a successful construction manager through hands-on professional core classes in drafting/design, materials, surveying, codes and regulations, estimating, blueprint reading and project management.

Students in this program play a key role in building a 1,250 square-foot Habitat for Humanity home each academic year and gain the confidence to function in both the construction office and job site environments.

ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY ADVANCED MANUFACTURING ASSOCIATE IN SCIENCE (A.S.) Engineering Technology with Advanced Manufacturing (ETAM) is a 60-credit hour Associate in Science (A.S.) degree program. This program offers a sequence of courses that provides coherent and rigorous content aligned with challenging academic standards and relevant technical knowledge and skills.

This program prepares students for engineering/manufacturing technology support positions that attend to Programmable Logic Controllers (PLCs), automation and control systems in high tech production, manufacturing, production/inventory control, instrumentation, hydraulics, pneumatics, and semiconductors.

TIME TO COMPLETION: Six semesters | AVERAGE SALARY: $74,440**

LEADERSHIP FOR INDUSTRY ASSOCIATE IN SCIENCE (A.S.) Santa Fe College’s Associate in Science (A.S.) in Leadership for Industry degree is a 60-credit hour program that recognizes and builds upon apprenticeship experience and provides students with business education to prepare for transition into leadership roles.

Students who successfully complete the A.S. in Leadership for Industry degree may apply to the Santa Fe College Bachelor of Applied Science in Organizational Management (BAS OM) program. The BAS OM program further develops students’ knowledge and skills to succeed in leadership positions in business, government, and nonprofit organizations.

CONSTRUCTION STUDENTS LAY THE FOUNDATION WITH HABITAT FOR HUMANITY Since 2010, Habitat for Humanity, Santa Fe College and the Builders Association of North Central Florida have worked together to produce one Habitat House per year in the Charles R. Perry Construction Institute.

The house is built in conjunction with students from the following programs; Santa Fe College Construction Management program and the Apprenticeship program which teaches HVAC, Electrical, Plumbing and Carpentry trades. The house is built into the curriculum of each of these programs. In 2025, students will complete their 16th house.

An A.S. degree in Construction Management Technology gives graduates the technical skills required in the industry, blended with management training.

Graduates are comfortable both in the office environment and on the job site.

Students studying to enter the fields of carpentry, HVAC, electrical and plumbing work alongside crews from Habitat for Humanity to construct the new facility.
