DIRECTOR’S NOTES Welcome back to a new school year, and to the beginning of our 2026-2027 Performing Arts season. I’m so thrilled you are here to support our Performing Arts program and to see the fi rst performance in this space in 6 years: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Many of you are probably familiar with this timeless classic from author C.S. Lewis. It’s the story about 4 children who were sent to live in an old professor’s home out in the country during the London air raids, and how what they found within that house was bigger than they ever could have imagined.
This story reminds us that times of struggle and darkness do not last forever, “The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness will not overcome it” (John 1:5). The long-awaited arrival of Aslan in Narnia is a reminder that God never leaves our side, even when we feel in despair at times.
Just like when Lucy came across the wardrobe, the fi rst time I set foot on the SFC campus I also had no idea what to expect. Not only was I amazed to see this beautiful campus, but nothing could have prepared me for the amazing people that I have met over these years. My entire life has taken shape by being here! And while the buildings have changed, the layout has been updated, and this chapel has now become a black box, the thing that has remained consistent is the love and support throughout this community.
I would like to personally thank you for being a part of our SFC community and for coming to support our Performing Arts program. Directing this program has blessed me with the opportunity to walk alongside so many young people who are fi nding their passions, learning about what kind of strength they are made of, and stepping into leadership roles through their high school journey. I hope you love the performance of these amazing cast members, and that you see the incredible work of our incredible crew.
Aslan not only returns to Narnia, but also lays down his life in order to help pay for Edmund’s debts. This is the biggest takeaway from this story: that Aslan (Jesus) off ers us grace – a love and mercy that is completely undeserved.
Enjoy the show!
A NOTE FROM ROD GILBERT I loved the Narnia series! The first book, The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, changed my life forever. As a nine-year-old, I watched our family’s home burn to the ground. All of us survived, but the experience proved to be traumatic. After the fire, I discovered great books like Narnia and others. The book gave me something hopeful in the story that let my heart escape the current situation. I can still remember the apex of this little story’s end. I shed some tears alone while reading, and then felt the exhilaration of hope. Literature, like Narnia, allows a child to practice overcoming tough times and obstacles. Aslan’s courage shows us that a hero can be wildly courageous.
THE LION, THE WITCH, AND THE WARDROBE 5
DIRECTOR’S THANK YOU’S I want to thank God for everything that He gives us every single day, for allowing us to be here and to be a part of this performing arts community. Thank you to our administrative team at SFC for supporting our pursuit of excellence in the Arts: Rod Gilbert, Mike Siciliano, Connie Choi, Augustus Garcia, Hannah Park, Todd Deveau, Kristi Ellis, Amanda Walker, and Julie Johnson.
Thank you to production manager, Therese Stambaugh, for her work in communications, organization, and everything else that helps things run smoothly. I want to thank costumers Ainsley Lenihan and Gretchen Bolton for their excellence in design. Another huge thank you goes to Christine Rogers for her work as our props lead on this production.
As you may have observed when entering this building, there has been a TON of work poured into the renovations that transformed our campus’ historic chapel to be the new home for our Black Box Theater and Drama Room. I have the deepest and most sincere gratitude for all of the people who worked tirelessly over the summer to help complete this renovation: the talented workers at Good Stewards, Matt Berg and the SFC Facilities team, Kurt de Pfyffer, the SFC IT team, and Tritia Gustine and her team from Beach Bungalow Designs. Your mammoth efforts have built something extraordinary!
There was also incredible work done to help with the finished product. Thank you to Sam Schreer (SFC alum ‘25) for his recording of The Lion Walks, and Rachel Alessio for her work with our vocalists in singing Sam’s arrangement. And also a huge thank you to student choreographer Avery Rosenthal for her work.
I would like to thank the incredible team that helps make our productions possible.

DIRECTOR BIO Matthew Corsaro is so proud to be a part of the amazing Visual and Performing Arts program at Santa Fe Christian. He is humbled to be surrounded by such a talented and creative artistic team and is always amazed by his students’ focused hard work. This is Matt’s twelfth year directing at SFC, and he is so excited for you to see C.S. Lewis’ The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Matt’s love and passion for theater sparked in the fifth grade while watching a high school production of Godspell. It was during his own high school theater experience that Matt knew he was called to become a drama teacher. While the journey and path to become a high school drama teacher took a while – with
many twists and turns along the way – Matt was able to finally find a home and true place of belonging at SFC. Working with these students in the cast and crew is one of his greatest joys; helping them through the various challenges in their lives is really what is at the heart of the job. Family is extremely important to Matt. He wouldn’t be the strong man he is without the love, support, and patience from his beautiful wife, Carlie. He would also like to give a very special thank you to his two amazing kids, Nico and Cami, who remind him every day why family, following your heart, and pursuing happiness are so valuable.
