Matthew Corsaro is so proud to be a part of the amazing Visual and Performing Arts program at Santa Fe Christian. He is humbled to be surrounded by such a talented and creative artistic team and is always amazed by his students’ focused hard work. This is Matt’s eleventh year directing productions at SFC, with Hello, Dolly! being his 36th show at SFC and 53rd show in his overall career.
Matt’s love and passion for theater sparked in the fifth grade while watching a high school production of Godspell. It was during his own high school theater experience that Matt knew he was called to become a drama teacher himself. While the journey and path to become a high school drama teacher took a while with many twists and turns along the way, Matt was able to finally find a home and true place of belonging at SFC. Working with these students in the cast and crew is one of his greatest joys; helping them through the various challenges in their lives is really what is at the heart of the job.
Family is extremely important to Matt. He wouldn’t be the strong man he is without the love, support, and patience from his beautiful wife, Carlie. He would also like to give a very special thank you to his two amazing kids, Nico and Cami, who remind him every day why family, following your heart, and pursuing happiness are so valuable. Jeremiah 29:11
Musical Director
Rachel Alessio A San Diego native, Ms. Alessio holds a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from Point Loma Nazarene University and a Master of Music in Choral Conducting from Southern Illinois University. She brings over ten years of experience in arts administration, teaching, and performance throughout the San Diego and Carbondale, IL areas.
Ms. Alessio serves as Director of Choirs and Music Director for high school musical productions at Santa Fe Christian, where she is passionate about using music and performance to develop the whole person. Her love for singing and performance began in grade school through school and community theater programs, as well as active participation in school and church choirs.
In high school, a drama teacher helped her recognize the power of music and theater to teach meaningful life skills and foster personal growth. This inspiration continued into college, where it was reinforced by university choir directors who modeled excellence, mentorship, and the lasting impact of arts education. These experiences affirmed her calling to pursue a career in arts education.
Since then, Ms. Alessio has served as music and artistic director for eight productions, as well as choir and general music teacher at St. Michael’s Catholic School in Poway. She has also worked as a choir teacher and conductor for Hadestown: Teen Edition at Cathedral Catholic High School, Director of Children’s Choirs at La Jolla Presbyterian Church, and as a vocal coach and performer with various ensembles throughout San Diego.
Ms. Alessio is grateful to be part of the Santa Fe Christian community and thankful to God for the opportunity to share His love through music, storytelling, and performance. She would not be the teacher and performer she is today without the support of her family, the mentorship of teachers throughout her life, and her faith in God, who has blessed her with the gifts and talents to serve in this field.
Psalm 139:14
Conductor Choreographer
Andrew Young is the proud band director at Santa Fe Christian Schools. Originally from Fresno, California, where he first got a taste for teaching music in high school, Andrew moved to San Diego to attend Point Loma Nazarene University. He immediately fell in love with the varied, active lifestyle that such a beautiful place could afford. After a handful of years juggling dual careers as biochemist and professional musician, he stepped out of the lab and focused more time in the classroom, where his passion for teaching could serve a greater number of students.
With the unyielding support of his loving wife, Laurie, Andrew’s time at SFC has been filled with joy. No other work has come close to matching the fulfillment experienced when students grow beyond their own imaginations and reach others in the process. Engaging with a community brimming with passion for faith fuels him as he challenges himself and his students to live out the teachings of Jesus every day. James 1:12
Amy Santoro Amy Santoro is excited to be working on this production of Hello, Dolly! She grew up training at San Elijo Dance Academy and since then her passion for dance has never left. She graduated from Benedictine College where she received a BA in Education with a concentration in fine arts. She performed on the Raven Dance Team there and competed at NDA Nationals in Daytona Beach, Florida for three consecutive years. She has choreographed numerous productions throughout San Diego County and has worked with multiple companies and schools teaching dance and performing arts including Moonlight Youth Theatre, Thrive Learning Center and Cathedral Catholic High School. She has also been a recipient of the National Youth Arts awards for Outstanding Choreography for her work on SFC productions of Annie (2015), Godspell (2016) and Newsies (2019). She would like to thank Matt Corsaro for always being awesome to work with, Amy Kennard for her constant encouragement, her wonderful husband, her family and friends for their love and support, the amazing cast and crew and her Lord Jesus Christ for the beauty of the arts and the gift of choreography. 1 Corinthians 16:14
Director ’ s Notes
Have you ever wanted a second chance? Maybe with love, with a job or a dream, or to feel young again? Obviously we don’t have the ability to go back in time, but it does help to know that – at the end of today – tomorrow is a new day, and a new hope. Tomorrow is a chance to start anew, try again, and correct our old habits. And this musical you’re about to see – Hello, Dolly! – is just about that –getting a second chance at life.
This show might have been calling to me way before I even knew we would be here tonight. I can remember sitting in a movie theater way back in 2008. I was about to earn my bachelor’s degree, but the landscape in 2008 wasn’t exactly ideal for a new graduate due to the tumbling effects of the housing bubble. The theater darkened, and the soundtrack began: “Out there, there’s a world outside of Yonkers…” Accompanied by shots of outer space, finally zoomed in on a desolate version of an imagined future Earth void of beauty, hope, or life. This music was coming from a little robot named Wall-E, who was happily going about each new day collecting garbage. Wall-E’s whole world changes when he meets a robot named Eve, sent to planet Earth to look for signs of life.
In a slightly stretched allegory, Dolly Levi – a matchmaker and widow – arrives in Yonkers, New York. She is there to assist her client, Horace Vandergelder. But it is not just to help find him a wife. She is there to remind people that – just like in her own situation –life doesn’t end at disappointment and heart break. Second chances can come from having the hope that you can step out because, “There’s lots of world out there.”
In both of these stories, we are reminded that hope is transformative. Whether it is teaching someone to dance, receiving an invitation to the grandest restaurant in New York, or in Wall-E and Eve’s case – finding one, tiny seedling – hope may be small, but it is still there. No matter how broken we may feel, hope and second chances are always available to us. “It only takes a moment.”
Enjoy the show!
