Norwood’s 1984 history makers are back together 40 years after their stunning rags-to-riches premiership.
GRAND MEMORIES History Makers. They are words that have special meaning to Redlegs supporters who witnessed the SANFL glory days of the 1980s. And the Norwood players who were a part of the remarkable 1984 premiership still have a special bond and camaraderie 40 years after making history in winning the flag from fifth at the end of the minor round. There was a wonderful reunion for the team and coach Neil Balme last month, while the Legs also celebrated the side of 2014, who completed a stunning premiership
hat-trick with a thrilling win under coach Ben Warren in the return of SANFL grand finals to Adelaide Oval. Norwood beat traditional rival Port Adelaide in both premiership deciders so the reunions took place around the Round 11 clash against the Magpies at The Parade. Redlegs fans don’t have to delve back too far into the memory banks to recognise the faces in the snap of the 2014 side but how many names can you come up with from the photo of the 1984 history makers? On Page 20 Neil Smith reveals how Neil Balme joined the Redlegs.
