Presented by Jack Weisel

Dear friends of Sharsheret,

We represent our dear cousin Heidi Weisel.

As many of you know, Heidi was renowned for her fashion forward modernist evening wear, admired for its bold elegance, sleek lines, and effortless femininity. At the height of her career in the 1990s and 2000s, her collections were featured at Barneys, Neiman Marcus, and the finest boutiques nationwide. Her gowns graced Hollywood’s red carpets and Manhattan’s most stylish women, establishing her as a defining voice in American design. Her talent was further recognized with pieces held in the permanent collection of The Metropolitan Museum of Art.

Sadly, Heidi passed in her prime. We salute her legacy, a great American story told through art and fashion, one that deserves to be lauded and celebrated. We are sending along the Heidi Weisel retrospective, a tribute to her life’s work, featuring some of her most iconic designs.

We hope you enjoy them well.

With kind regards,

Susan Baum and Annie Baum

Standard Textile was founded on July 1, 1940, by Charles Heiman, who started the business from his family’s apartment in Cincinnati after escaping Dachau and fleeing Nazi persecution. Employing fellow refugees, the company quickly grew, moving in 1945 to a former shoe factory and later establishing its world headquarters in 1963. From its inception, Standard Textile has been committed to quality, service, and innovation.

Today, Standard Textile continues to lead the industry with over 150 patents and a global reputation for excellence, supplying luxury products to high-end hospitality markets. One of its most notable collaborations came when New York City fashion designer Heidi Weisel, frustrated by the lack of stylish and comfortable hotel robes, shared her vision with the company’s CEO. This partnership gave rise to the Heidi Weisel for Standard Textile Robe Collection, a luxurious, fashion-forward line designed to make guests feel special and cared for.

Under Gary Heiman’s leadership, the company expanded its manufacturing footprint worldwide. In January 2023, he passed the presidency to his son, Alex, who is dedicated to upholding their legacy and driving further innovation. Through strategic partnerships and a continued focus on quality, Standard Textile remains a trusted name in luxury hospitality.

Luxury is a Feeling.

The Heidi Weisel robe collection is the only fashion-forward, truly luxurious collection of robes designed around how your buyers want to feel.

Known for the understated glamour and simple elegance of her designs, native New Yorker Heidi Weisel debuted her collection with six black evening pieces, captivating prestigious retailers and press alike. The collection was soon featured at New York’s premiere retailers including Neiman Marcus, Bergdorf Goodman, and Barney’s New York. Inspired by luxurious fabrics, Heidi began experimenting with knitted cashmere, discovering ways to incorporate it into her designs. Creating evening wear with the ease and comfort of sportswear, Weisel paired the versatility of cashmere with the fluidity of silk chiffon and satin to create her signature look, modern evening gowns in an unexpected mix of fabrics. Cashmere and knits have since become the mainstay of her collections, and remain Heidi’s passion.

Extensive editorial coverage and celebrity clientele quickly followed. Often gracing the red carpet, her clientele includes Brooke Shields, Oprah Winfrey, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Elizabeth Hurley to name a few. Heidi has appeared on The Morning Show, Extra, CNN and E! and has been profiled in Women’s Wear Daily, InStyle, House Beautiful, and her designs have been featured in all major fashion publications. In addition to her own collection, Heidi has collaborated with several nationally recognized retailers and global brands, including HSN, Gilt Groupe, Saks Fifth Avenue, Standard Textile, and most recently Dressbarn.

A graduate of the Fashion Institute of Technology, Heidi’s designs have been exhibited at the Costume Institute of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, and have been selected as part of the permanent collection. Heidi won the celebrated Gold Coast Fashion Award for “Excellence in Design” in 2000 and is a member of the Council of Fashion Designers of America.
