I will grow old.... but not without a

fight! The big 5-0 is this year. Wow. It is so hard to believe that it is happening this year. My thoughts; bring it on. I feel I am good to go…. But I will be honest, I am not ready to age. 50. The time to embrace the gray, the wrinkles, the middle age spread. Many of my gal pals have insisted on this and shunned me for thinking and acting the opposite. “Botox, makes you look fake, people notice” “Lip filler, really Sandra?” “Why are you trying to look younger?” “Why can’t you accept that you are going to be 50?” When I reflect on where I was and where I am going, the aging process has allowed me to be the woman who I am today. 20s. The years of college and university. Drinking. Dating. Making my own rules. The 20s for me to be honest when I look back were not that great. When I thought I had confidence, I didn’t. Way too many times I compromised myself in shitty relationships. How many times do you have to smell a skunk to know it is a skunk? (apparently quite a few times) 30s were the years I spent making up for my 20 mistakes. Career establishing. Financial planning. House ownership. I felt more mature and was starting to come into my own. I purchased my first house at 31 while working 3 jobs. I was on a mission and wasn’t backing down. 40. Need I say more. Relationships have come and gone. Careers have changed. I wore a 2piece bathing suit for the first time ever! Silly I know, but for me it meant, CONFIDENCE. As I aged, one thing remained consistent, I was becoming the woman who I was meant to be.

Life has taught me Not to sweat the small stuff I was just as important as everyone else. You don’t need a lot of friends to have a friend. Listen to your gut – it knows. It is ok not to love back. You are worth it. A half of a lifetime I spent making mistakes, learning lessons. Taking 2 steps forward, with 2 steps back. For the first time, I can honestly say I have peace. If part of that peace is taking care of me, who are they to judge.

Fifty & Fit. Fifty & Fab. Nifty Fifty. We all heard it. So why not own it? Over the past few years, I have embraced fitness. I lost 15ish pounds, only to hear, you are looking to skinny, don’t overdo it. REALLY! WTF PEOPLE I am by far obsessed. I love chocolate and even more so a glass of sparkling. I still have a roll on my tummy when I sit. Do I feel healthier and even sexier? You betcha! I earned every gray hair on my head that I turn blonde. Every frown line, I paid my penance to soften. For every time my lip quivered over jerks I dated, jobs I lost, financial setbacks I endured, I love how my lipstick looks. Call it vanity. Call it whatever you want. I feel good about me.

For all of you women battling the gray. Fighting the bulge. Eliminating the wrinkles, I leave you with this. YOU GO GIRL!

As a mortgage broker, we get to see inside the walls of the financial home of people. And what we see might surprise you, not only do we see the credit history of our clients but also their income and salaries. Do you ever wonder to yourself, how much does a carpenter make or how much does a mechanic make?? Well I am about to tell you. As a child growing up, income, finance and money were taboo, one never talked about how much money they made. It was just wrong to do so. I believe that knowledge is power, and with power you can make better decisions on careers and what you can expect. Some of these may surprise you. I have taken inventory of the incomes that I have seen in my business and averaged them based on job type.

I will start with the incomes of our HEALTH CARE WORKERS the backbone of this pandemic: Continuing Care Assistants – 14$/hr up to 19/hr – typically I am seeing these workers in the Health authority along with working in private setting such as nursing homes. They are classed for a few years as casual workers but work full time hours. Licensed Practical Nurses – 19$hr up to 25/hr – depending on experience, again private home versus hospital can be vastly different. Registered Nurses – 25/hr to 42$/hr – depending on experience. The AUTOMOTIVE INDUSTRY. This one really piqued my interest, because a mechanic goes to school for many years to be trained on the now very complicated motors, systems and its constantly changing. And for their efforts they make these incomes. Mechanic Apprentice - $16/hr Mechanic Red Seal – $16/hour to $28/hour While these look like great incomes, when you see a top selling car salesperson, their incomes hit the 6 figure marks.

continued....

When you apply for a mortgage there are different rules that we apply when calculating your income. For instance if you are a CCA, and you are working full time hours, we need to see a full 2 years, because your time is not guaranteed, but if you work full time and have been for more than 90 days, and your hours are guaranteed, then we can look at your income at that point in time. With any job, incomes vary, and rules with each lender will vary, if you want to know if your income is on par, ask your broker, they can tell you pretty quickly if you are underpaid. Finance is the last taboo, and if we just begin to share our information, we can gain perspective. With perspective comes knowledge and with knowledge there is power. Take your power back and know if you are being paid your worth it.
