FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Hannah Ehrlich: Decomposition Exhibition Dates: October 28 - December 2, 2023 Opening reception Saturday, October 28th, 2-5 pm at Sandler Hudson Gallery Artist Talk at Sandler Hudson Gallery, December 2nd, 2pm Sandler Hudson Gallery is pleased to announce its upcoming exhibition Decomposition, by Atlanta-based artist, Hannah Ehrlich. This exhibition speaks to the impermanence of life, the cycle of construction and decay, and the balance between preservation and transformation. Through the use of remnants of upholstery and trim, doilies, artificial plants, and other discarded objects and materials, Ehrlich uses traditional craft techniques such as weaving, crochet, macramé, and sewing in order to recontextualize these materials that are inconspicuous and found in the periphery of our world. Viewers are invited to reconsider these materials and textile techniques’ significance and think about the layers of meaning they each hold. HANNAH EHRLICH is a textile artist who studies unprocessed experiences, fractured memories, coping mechanisms, and the intricacies of human emotional survival through blending and distorting multiple textile practices. She utilizes paint, dye, and bleach on manipulated fabric to alter the material from its original, recognizable state, generating a desire to touch and understand the fibers’ change in nature. Ehrlich received a BFA in Textile and Fiber Arts from The Lamar Dodd School of Art at The University of Georgia in 2017. After having graduated, she began her studio practice in Atlanta, GA. She was recently selected to be an Artist-in-Residence at the NARS Foundation Season III International Residency in Brooklyn, New York where she used the opportunity to develop ideas and create the work for her solo exhibition “Decomposition” at Sandler Hudson Gallery. Solo Exhibitions Include: Decomposition, Sandler Hudson Gallery, Atlanta, GA; Altered, Echo Contemporary Art, Atlanta, GA; Clearing: a fertile exhale, Swan Coach House Gallery, Atlanta, GA; Manifestation Of The Wandering Mind, Mason Fine Art, Atlanta, GA; The Stillness You See, Westobou Gallery, Augusta, GA; Foreground, The Mast, Atlanta, GA.
