Tokyo, July 7 (IANS) About 90 per cent of Japanese felt prices have been rising compared to a year earlier, the highest in 14 years, a survey by the Bank of Japan (BOJ) has revealed.

A sharp drop in the yen in the first half of this year has sent energy and food prices soaring across the country, Xinhua news agency reported.

In the survey conducted quarterly, a combined 89.0 per cent of respondents said prices increased ”significantly” or ”slightly” compared to a year earlier, up 7.8 percentage points compared to the previous poll in March, marking the highest level since September 2008.

The report by payroll management app Salarybox stated that females in the workplace made Rs 12,398 on average, which was 19 per cent less than their male colleagues, which brings forth the country’s wide gender pay disparity.

The data also highlights that less than 15 per cent of the employee base earns in the range of Rs 20,000-40,000 per month (on an average Rs 25,000), calling attention to the fact that a vast majority of Indians have difficulties securing even a livable wage.

Interestingly, the majority of firms pay wages below the minimum wage set by the Central Pay Commission (CPC), that is Rs 18,000 per month.

The flyover from Lahartara to Chaukaghat passes through important landmarks of the city like Varanasi Cantt Station and Interstate Bus Station.

Vaidya Bandhan Singh Kharwar, who treats ailments with wild herbs, like all his patients, charged Dhoni Rs 40 for a single dose of medicine.

About 70 km from Ranchi, at Katingkela in Lapung police station area, Vaidya Bandhan Singh Kharwar has been treating patients for the last 28 years. He has a tarpaulin tent under a tree where Dhoni has been visiting him for last one month at an interval of four days to get a dose of his medicine. The medicine prepared by this Vaidya for the treatment of bone ailments is such that it cannot be carried home.

Following complaints from the leaders of the Hindu community in Canada about “disrespectful depiction of Hindu gods on the poster of a film showcased as part of a film festival at Aga Khan Museum Toronto, the Indian High commission in Canada on Monday urged the organisers to withdraw all provocative material.

In a statement here the Indian High commission in Canada while referring to complaints in respect of objectionable depiction of Goddess Kali on the poster of a documentary “Kaali” by Toronto based filmmaker Leena Manimekalai said, “Our Consulate General in Toronto has conveyed the concerns to the organisers of the event. We are also informed that several Hindu groups have approached authorities in Canada to take action. We urge the Canadian authorities and the event organisers to withdraw all such provocative material.

The film is being showcased at “Under the Tent” project at the Aga Khan Museum in Toronto.

Responding to criticism, Menamekalai said she had nothing to lose.

Detroit: (IANS) Rajendra Bothra, an Indian-origin doctor, and three other physicians were acquitted of charges related to federal allegations they operated a Warren-based prescription drug mill, the media reported.

Bothra of Bloomfield Hills the accused mastermind; along with Ganiu Edu of Southfield, Davi Lewis of Detroit and Christopher Russo of Birmingham were found not guilty by a jury, Macomb Daily reported.

The verdicts followed a six-week trial in front of Judge Stephen Murphy in US District Court in Detroit.

Bothra’s attorney, Arthur Weiss, said he and his client are “ecstatic” over the verdict but upset that he has been in federal detention for 43 months while awaiting trial. The other defendants were free on personal bonds.

Bothra was awarded the Padma Shri by

the Indian government in 1999.

“We’re glad the jury looked at the evidence and made the appropriate decision in a relatively short amount of time,” Weiss said. “Where does he go to reclaim those 43 months?”

Bothra was released from detention on Wednesday. Over the course of the proceedings, the India native repeatedly attempted to gain freedom while awaiting trial but was denied by the judge.

US attorneys were concerned about Bothra’s risk of flight since he often had visited India since moving to the US several decades ago and lied about the extent of his travel, Macomb Daily reported.

Bothra owned and operated The Pain Center, based in Warren and with other locations, including in Eastpointe, and employed the other doctors.

The group collectively was charged with over 50 counts, with each of them facing one count each of conspiracy to distribute controlled substances, mostly the opioid Norco, and conspiracy to commit health care fraud.

A 51-year-old Indian-origin woman who was given just months to live a few years ago is celebrating on Monday after doctors say she is showing no evidence of breast cancer following a clinical trial at a UK hospital.

Jasmin David from Fallowfield in Manchester is now looking forward to celebrating her 25th wedding anniversary in September after the successful National Health Service (NHS) trial. David’s two-year trial at the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Manchester Clinical Research Facility (CRF) at Christie NHS Foundation Trust involved an experimental medicine combined with Atezolizumab, an immunotherapy drug administered intravenously which she continues to have every three weeks. “I was 15 months down the line after my initial cancer treatment and had almost forgotten about it, but then the cancer returned,” recalls David.

“When I was offered the trial, I didn’t know if it would work for me, but I thought that at least I could do something to help others and use my body for the next generation. At first, I had many horrible side effects including headaches and spiking temperatures, so I was in hospital over Christmas and quite poorly.

Then thankfully I started to respond well to the treatment,” she said. The previously fit and healthy mother of two grown-up children, worked as a clinical lead at a care home for the elderly.

She discovered she had an aggressive triple negative form of breast cancer in November 2017, when she found a lump above the nipple. She underwent six months of chemotherapy and a mastectomy in April 2018, followed by 15 cycles of radiotherapy which cleared her body of cancer. “My Christian faith helped me a lot on this journey and the prayers and support from family and friends gave me strength to face the challenge,” she added.

Bengaluru, July 6 (IANS) An Indiaborn parliamentarian from Canada, Chandra Arya said on Wednesday that anti-Hindu and anti-India forces have joined hands in Canada.

The Canadian parliamentarian, who originally hails from Karnataka, made these remarks in connection with an offensive poster by filmmaker Leena Manimekalai on Hindu goddess Kaali that has created outrage and condemnation throughout the country.

“Painful to see Kaali poster by filmmaker Leena Manimekalai. Past few years, traditional anti-Hindu and anti-India groups in Canada have joined forces resulting in Hindu phobic articles in the media and attacks on our temples,” Chandra Arya stated on his social media handle.

The Buddhist scholar, known for his simplicity and typical jovial style and for whom Mahatma Gandhi is the most influential leader of the 20th century for his idea of non-violence, prefers to participate in meetings with religious leaders, and lectures students and businessmen on ethics for the new millennium and the art of happiness.

He believes India is the only country with the potential to combine its ancient knowledge with modern education.

Talking to a congregation of Tibetans, who organised the long-life offering ceremony of His Holiness here last month, the spiritual leader said, “I’m in my eighties now, but I’m determined that even when I’m in nineties or past one hundred, I will strive to work for Tibet.

“I’m in good health and my brain is clear, so I intend to live for at least the next 25 years. The sun will shine once more on Tibet. Freedom will recover.”

On March 10, 1960 just before moving to Dharamsala, which also serves as the headquarters of the exiled Tibetan establishment, the Dalai Lama said: “For those of us in exile, I said that our priority must be resettlement and the continuity of our cultural traditions. We, Tibetans, would eventually prevail in regaining freedom for Tibet.”

“Given every talk and teachings, His Holiness has always lauded the ancient tradition of the Nalanda institution and expressed his earnest pursuit to restore and revive the ancient Indian knowledge,” added Samten.

The Nalanda tradition, in particular, considers His Holiness a great potential of making a significant contribution in the fields of philosophy, epistemology, and logic, etc., thus making it a highly intellectual and spiritual tradition.

“All particles in my mind contain thoughts from Nalanda. And it’s Indian ‘dal’ and ‘chapati’ that has built this body. s a ’90s kid, Akasa was among those who grew up watching Milind Soman groove to Alisha Chinai’s popular track, Made in India. Evidently then, being part of Shringaar, which marked Soman’s return to a music video after 25 years, was reason to celebrate for the singer.

“I used to be a Milind Soman fan-girl while growing up. Made in India was [on] my ‘inspiration mood board’, as an aspiring pop artiste.

Hence, sharing the screen with him has definitely been a dream come true. It was fun and dreamy.

He has so many experiences to share, and is surely my idol,” says Akasa of the song that also features the works of Raftaar, Aastha Gill, and Vayu.

QUEENS, NY — People claiming to be international tourists lured an elderly man over to their car in northeast Queens and stole his necklace, police said.

The so-called tourists, who claimed to be from Dubai, started talking with the 87-year-old man about 4:30 p.m. on June 16 from the window of a white Jeep Grand Cherokee, stopped in front of 81-70 190th Street, a house near Cunningham Park, police announced late Thursday night.

In the midst of the conversation, the people removed a necklace the victim was wearing, and replaced it with a fake gold piece of jewelry, according to the NYPD. A video of the incident, reported by police, shows a person in the front seat of the car wrapping their arms around the neck of the elderly man standing next to the vehicle, seemingly capturing the moment of the necklace robbery.

LOS ANGELES, CA- Nevada based Neil Chandran 50, has been arrested from Los Angeles for an alleged investment fraud scheme that defrauded more than 10,000 victims of over $45 million.

Chandran owned a group of companies where his modus operandi was to defraud investors by falsely promising extremely high returns.

Chandran’s many companies even developed their own cryptocurrency to be used in companies own metaverse.

According to allegations, Chandran made many misleading representations including that his companies were being purchased by wealthy buyers. He instead misappropriated the funds and used them for other business ventures as well as personal expenses such as buying luxury cars or real estate. If convicted, Chandran could face up to 20 years in prison.

What has caused ire in some sections of Hindus in the United States, is the depiction of Hindu God – Lord Shiva in the series.

Upset Hindus have called the portrayal highly inappropriate.

Hindu statesman Rajan Zed, in a statement in Nevada, said that Lord Shiva was meant to be worshipped in

temples and home shrines and not to be thrown around loosely or dragged around unnecessarily in anime TV series for mercantile greed.

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, indicated that Hindu gods and goddesses were divine and entertainment companies were welcome to create projects around them showing their true depiction as mentioned in the Hindu scriptures.

Cash Reward Offered After Baby Parrots Stolen From Pet Store In NJ

LODI, NJ- A cash reward is being offered for the safe return of two baby parrots stolen right from their cages in a Bergen County pet store Saturday morning.

Surveillance video from NJ Exotic Pets on Route 17 south in Lodi shows two men and one woman approaching several bird cages near the rear of the store before one of the men pulls out

what appears to be a T-shirt, opens a cage, and scoops up a tiny white-bellied caique, placing it into the female accomplice’s bag next to him. The footage shows the man steal another bird the same way before the trio is seen walking out the store.

The group got into a black Acura, New York license plate UXH9331, before the vehicle fled south on Route 17, said Tiffany Galluzzo, the bird manager at NJ Exotic Pets. The theft happened around 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, when Galluzzo was in another area of the store constructing bird cages. It was about an hour later when she went to check on the birds at the back of the store and noticed the two babies were gone, Galluzzo said.

The white-bellied caiques, a type of parrot, were being weaned off liquid formula and need special care, said Galluzzo. “For them to just be taken right when they’re transitioning into being ready to find their forever home, it just it makes me sick,” she said.

An investigation into the theft is ongoing, said Sgt. Dominic Miller with Lodi Police Department.

An unspecified cash reward is being offered for safe return of the birds, Galluzzo said. People should keep an eye out for anyone selling birds online or locally at a suspiciously low price, Galuzzo said. For example, the birds stolen on Saturday go for more than $3,400, but might be sold for as low as $500 on the black market, she said.

S president Joe Biden has said that women travelling for abortions will be protected by the federal government.

Millions of women in the US lost the constitutional right to abortion in June, after the Supreme Court overturned its 50-year-old Roe v Wade decision.

The judgement has paved the way for individual states to ban the procedure.

They have become local battlegrounds in the fight to overturn or uphold abortion services.

At the same time, Google says it is taking steps to remove data from users’ location histories that could be used to prosecute people for visits to US abortion clinics.

Women in states where abortion is banned or restricted may be forced to cross state lines to parts of the country where the procedure remains legal.

Speaking at a virtual meeting with Democratic state governors, Mr Biden said he believed some US states would attempt to arrest women who crossed state lines for abortion access.

“I don’t think people believe that’s going to happen. But it’s going to happen,” he said.

B’luru ex-deputy commissioner Manjunath shares common barrack with criminals HiIndia Newsdesk

Bengaluru (IANS) : Former Bengaluru Urban Deputy Commissioner and senior IAS officer J. Manjunath, who was arrested on charges of corruption, has been lodged in a common barrack along with other criminals in the central prison of Parappana Agrahara here, sources said on Wednesday.

Usually, senior officers and VIP’s are given special barracks and kept away from the other prison inmates. The jail authorities have given him the prisoner number 6773. Manjunath had been remanded to judicial custody for 14 days.

Prison sources said senior Manjunath was sharing a barrack with Nigerian drug peddlers and other accused charged with criminal offences. He has been given jail food and the authorities have not allowed food from outside or his home.

New Delhi: An unusually high number of incidents involving SpiceJet aircraft has prompted the aviation regulator to seek an explanation from the airline. The Directorate General of Civil Aviation, or DGCA, has pointed out big gaps on

how the airline is functioning, from operating flights with “degraded safety margins”, issues that point at “poor internal safety oversight” to vendors not being paid on time, leading to shortage of spare parts for the SpiceJet fleet.

The government’s notice said SpiceJet is operating its fleet on MEL, or Minimum Equipment List, which means the aircraft are considered safe to fly but not all systems are necessarily operational.

SpiceJet has been running into losses for the last three years. The carrier incurred a net loss of Rs.316 crore, Rs.3 934 crore and Rs.3 998 crore in 2018-19, 2019-20 and 2020-21, respectively.
