OIL WAR SHOCK
Rising tensions in the Middle East have triggered fresh fears of a global oil shock, sending nervous signals through financial markets and raising concerns over inflation, fuel prices and economic stability. As military threats and diplomatic uncertainty grow, experts warn that even a temporary disruption in oil supply could sharply impact gasoline costs, airline fares and household expenses across the United States and India. With Chicago families already battling high living costs, the possibility of another energy-driven economic wave is now becoming a major global concern.
Fresh tensions in the Middle East are once again shaking global markets and reviving fears of a major oil-price shock that could affect millions of families across the world, including Indian-American communities in the Chicago area. Investors, economists and political leaders are closely watching developments as military threats, regional instability and uncertainty over energy supplies continue to intensify. Global crude oil prices have shown renewed volatility in recent days amid concerns that any escalation involving key oil-producing nations could disrupt international supply chains. Analysts warn that even limited military conflict in the region could push fuel prices sharply higher, creating another wave of inflation pressure at a time when many households are already struggling with rising living costs.

The impact could be felt far beyond the Middle East. In the United States, higher oil prices often lead to more expensive gasoline, increased airline fares, rising shipping costs and costlier consumer goods. Midwest families, including thousands of Indian-origin households across Chicago suburbs, may face additional financial pressure if fuel and
transportation expenses continue climbing through the summer. Experts say the Midwest economy is particularly vulnerable because of its dependence on transportation, trucking and manufacturing industries. Rising diesel prices could affect food distribution, retail prices and business operating costs. Small business owners, motel operators, gas station
Trump’s $1.7B ‘Weaponization’ Fund Sparks Fury

President Donald Trump is facing growing backlash over a proposed $1.776 billion federal fund that critics say could be used to expand investigations into political opponents under the administration’s anti-“weaponization” agenda. The proposal has triggered sharp debate in Washington, with civil rights groups and Democratic lawmakers warning that the money could strengthen executive authority and increase politically motivated probes. Opponents argue the plan risks undermining trust in federal institutions by giving the government broader investigative powers. Some legal experts and advocacy groups fear it may be used to pressure critics, activists or media organizations seen as hostile to the administration. However, court challenges against the fund may be difficult. Constitutional experts note that Congress generally holds wide power over federal spending and law-enforcement budgets, making it harder to block such programs legally unless direct constitutional violations are proven. Supporters of President Trump defend the proposal, saying it is intended to expose political bias inside federal agencies and restore accountability within the government system.
owners and delivery companies within immigrant communities are also watching the situation with growing concern.
The crisis is also drawing attention in India, one of the world’s largest oil-importing nations. Any prolonged increase in crude prices could weaken the Indian rupee, increase inflation and affect travel and trade between India and the United States. International travel costs, including flights between Chicago and major Indian cities, may also rise if oil prices continue moving upward.
Financial markets have already begun reacting cautiously. Investors fear that a prolonged geopolitical conflict could slow global economic growth and create uncertainty for businesses and consumers alike. Stock markets worldwide have shown signs of nervousness as traders monitor military developments and diplomatic negotiations. Political leaders are urging restraint, but uncertainty remains high. With global energy markets tightly connected, even a regional conflict now carries worldwide consequences. For many families in Chicago and across America, the fear is no longer just about war overseas — it is about whether another global oil shock could soon hit their wallets at home.
4 Republicans Defy Trump On Iran War Vote

The US Senate advanced a war-powers resolution on Tuesday that would end the Iran war unless President Donald Trump obtains Congress' authorisation, a rare rebuke of the Republican leader 80 days after US and Israeli forces began striking Iran. The vote on a procedural measure to advance the resolution was 50 to 47, as four of Trump's fellow Republicans voted with every Democrat but one in favour. Three Republicans missed the vote. The result was a victory for lawmakers who had been arguing that Congress, not the president, should have the power to send troops to war, as spelt out in the Constitution. However, it was only a procedural vote, and the resolution faces steep hurdles before going into effect. Even if it eventually passes the 100-member Senate, the resolution must also pass the Republicanled House of Representatives and garner two-thirds majorities in both the House and Senate to survive an expected Trump veto.
US Charges Raúl Castro

The United States has charged former Cuban leader Raúl Castro over the 1996 shooting down of two planes operated by the Cuban-American group Brothers to the Rescue. The attack killed four people, including three Americans. US officials announced murder and conspiracy charges in Miami, saying the case delivers long-awaited justice for the victims.
Cuba strongly rejected the allegations, calling them politically motivated. Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel defended the country’s actions as self-defence. The charges come as President Donald Trump increases pressure on Cuba through sanctions and diplomatic action. Speaking at Freedom Tower in Miami, Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche announced that the US would also charge Castro with destruction of aircraft, and four individual counts of murder over the deaths of Armando Alejandre Jr, Carlos Alberto Costa, Mario Manuel de la Peña, and Pablo Morales. "The United States, and President Trump, does not, and will not, forget its citizens," Blanche said.

Iran examining U.S. proposal, as Trump says in ‘final stages’ of talks
With global markets watching closely and oil prices swinging sharply, Iran is now reviewing a fresh American proposal aimed at ending months of military tension and preventing a wider Middle East conflict. President Donald Trump said negotiations are in the “final stages,” while warning Tehran that tougher action could follow if diplomacy fails.
Iran confirmed that it had received Washington’s latest proposal through Pakistani mediators and was examining the terms carefully. Iranian officials said the country remains open to discussions but insists on major conditions, including easing US restrictions, access to frozen assets and guarantees against future military action.

President Trump told reporters that he prefers a peaceful resolution but warned that the United States is
prepared to take “nasty” steps if no agreement is reached. Despite the sharp rhetoric, his comments boosted investor optimism, with stock markets
Xi Takes Center Stage With Putin Visit
As global tensions reshape international politics, China is increasingly positioning itself as the world’s new diplomatic power centre. Within a single week, Chinese President Xi Jinping hosted both President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Beijing, signaling China’s growing influence over global trade, geopolitics and conflict negotiations. The carefully staged visits reflected Beijing’s ambition to present itself as a stable superpower capable of engaging with rival world leaders at a time when wars, sanctions and economic uncertainty continue shaking the international order.
Chinese President Xi Jinping strengthened Beijing’s image as a rising global power this week by hosting Russian President Vladimir Putin just days after welcoming President Donald Trump to China. The back-to-back high-profile visits showcased China’s growing diplomatic influence and Xi’s ambition to place Beijing at the centre of world affairs.

Putin received a grand ceremonial welcome at Beijing’s Great Hall of the People, similar to the reception earlier given to Trump. Analysts say the optics were carefully designed to show that major world leaders now view China as an essential global partner. Over the past few years, Beijing has repaired ties with several Western nations while expanding trade influence across Asia, Europe and the Middle East.
Putin’s visit also highlighted Russia’s increasing dependence on China as the Ukraine war and Western sanctions continue pressuring Moscow. China remains Russia’s largest trading partner and biggest customer for oil and gas exports. Although the two countries signed more than 20 agreements on trade and technology cooperation, China still avoided
approving Russia’s long-pending gas pipeline project, reinforcing Beijing’s stronger position in the partnership. Xi also appeared confident in his recent talks with Trump, with China benefiting from its dominance in manufacturing, exports and rare earth minerals. However, critics argue China’s diplomatic credibility remains limited because Beijing continues avoiding direct criticism of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine while calling for peace in other global conflicts, including the Middle East crisis.
rising and oil prices falling amid hopes of a diplomatic breakthrough.
A major issue in the negotiations remains the future of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most critical oil shipping routes. Continued disruption in the region has already affected global energy markets and raised fears of inflation and supply shortages worldwide.
Iranian leaders, however, continue to accuse Washington of using military threats to force concessions. Tehran warned that any renewed attack could trigger a broader regional conflict. Analysts say both sides appear eager to avoid another major war, but serious differences over Iran’s nuclear program and regional influence still remain unresolved.
UK
agrees £3.7bn trade deal with six Gulf states

The UK has struck a trade deal with a group of six Gulf states which it says will be worth £3.7bn to the economy.
The government said the deal with Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and United Arab Emirates (UAE) would remove an estimated £580m a year in tariffs from British exports to the region once fully implemented.
It also said it would make it easier for British firms to expand and partner in the Gulf, which will support jobs.
The deal was welcomed by Chris Southworth, secretary general of the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) UK, as a "boost to business confidence".
Activist groups have criticised the lack of detail on human rights and labour protections in the deal.
The Conservatives, who began the negotiations for the deal when in government, said it was "another major Brexit opportunity" which Labour risked "throwing away" because of what it saw as Labour's pro-EU stance. British products that will have tariffs removed include cheddar cheese, butter and chocolate.

Norwegian Daily Faces Racism Row Over Modi Cartoon

A major Norwegian newspaper has come under heavy criticism after publishing an illustration of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi depicted as a traditional snake charmer. The image, published alongside a commentary on India’s global political rise, sparked outrage on social media and among sections of the Indian diaspora, who described it as racist, outdated and culturally offensive. Critics argued that the cartoon relied on colonial-era stereotypes long used by Western media to portray India in a derogatory manner. Several Indian commentators said the depiction insulted not only Modi but also India’s modern global image as a fast-growing economic and technological power.
Supporters of the newspaper defended the image as political satire protected under freedom of expression laws in Europe. However, backlash intensified online, with many users accusing Western media outlets of applying double standards when portraying non-Western leaders and cultures.
The controversy has once again triggered debate over the limits of satire, cultural sensitivity and how international media represents India on the global stage. Indian social media users widely shared the image while demanding an apology from the publication.
Meta’s 4 AM Layoff Shock After Remote Work Push

New Delhi: It began with a simple instruction. Work from home (WFH) today. Employees across regions, including the US and Britain, were told not to come in. No townhalls. No floor chatter. No visible anxiety in office corridors. Then the emails started arriving. Meta Platforms kicked off layoffs that will impact about 8,000 employees, nearly 10 per cent of its workforce. The first messages were reported from its Singapore hub. A report by Bloomberg said affected employees in Singapore received emails at 4 am local time (1:30 am IST).
Trump: Netanyahu Follows My Lead
US President Donald Trump sparked fresh controversy after claiming that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu would “do whatever I want” and boasting that he enjoys a “99 percent rating” in Israel. Trump made the remarks during a political appearance while discussing the ongoing Middle East crisis and America’s relationship with Israel. Trump said his administration had maintained the strongestever ties with Israel during his presidency, pointing to policies such as recognizing Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, moving the US Embassy there, and supporting the Abraham Accords. He argued that Israeli leadership trusted him more than current US President Joe Biden.
The comments immediately triggered political debate in both the United States and Israel. Critics accused

Trump of exaggeration and attempting to project influence over Israeli decision-making during a tense regional period. Supporters, however, said the remarks reflected the close relationship Trump built with
Modi’s Rome Visit Signals Stronger India-Europe Ties

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi started his Italy visit with a private dinner hosted by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni in Rome, underlining stronger ties between the two countries. The leaders are expected to discuss trade, technology, energy, defense cooperation and global conflicts affecting international markets. The visit
comes as India increases engagement with key European nations amid rising geopolitical tensions.
Soon after arriving, Modi visited the historic Colosseum. Photos from the visit quickly spread across social media, drawing attention from supporters in both countries. Relations between India and Italy have improved significantly in recent years, especially under Modi and Meloni. Both governments have pushed for closer cooperation in clean energy, manufacturing and IndoPacific security. Officials say the visit could lead to new investment talks and bilateral agreements. Analysts also see the trip as part of India’s broader effort to strengthen partnerships in Europe as global trade and energy dynamics continue to shift because of ongoing conflicts in the Middle East and Ukraine.

Trump Says US Was “An Hour Away” From Iran Strikes
Statement adds to fears of wider regional conflict amid rising oil prices and growing international uncertainty.

US President Donald Trump claimed the United States was “an hour away” from launching fresh military strikes on Iran before the operation was halted at the last moment. Trump made the remarks while criticizing the Biden administration’s handling of the Middle East crisis. According to Trump, US military forces had completed preparations for possible attacks following rising tensions involving Iran and American allies in the region. He did not reveal details about the targets or timing of the proposed strikes.
The statement comes amid growing fears of a wider Middle East conflict. Oil prices remain volatile, airlines are changing routes and governments are closely watching developments around the Strait of Hormuz, a key global oil shipping route. Iran has warned against further escalation, while US officials continue diplomatic efforts to prevent a broader regional war. Analysts say Trump’s comments could intensify political debate in Washington over future US policy toward Iran and the ongoing regional crisis.

Meta Staff Told To Leave Immediately

Meta Layoffs: For thousands of Meta employees, their tensure ended with a sentence many had feared for weeks. "Unfortunately, your role has been eliminated as part of today's reorganisation."
Then came another line. "If you are already in the office, we ask that you please gather any personal items at your desk and head home."
The email, obtained by Business Insider, landed in inboxes at 4 am on Wednesday as Meta began cutting nearly 8,000 jobs -- roughly 10 per cent of its workforce -- while simultaneously shifting more than 7,000 employees into AI-focused teams. The message was formal. Calm. Carefully worded. But beneath the corporate language sat the reality of another sweeping restructuring inside one of the world's biggest tech companies.
NRI Plans Return To India After Europe Struggles

NRI plans to return to India after seven years in Europe due to loneliness and desire for entrepreneurship.
An Indian-origin professional living in Europe has gone viral online after revealing plans to return to India following seven years abroad, saying loneliness and emotional isolation slowly became overwhelming. The NRI shared his experience on social media, explaining that despite financial stability, career growth and a comfortable lifestyle in Europe, he struggled to build close personal connections and felt emotionally disconnected from family and Indian culture. The post triggered widespread discussion among Indians living overseas, with many agreeing that loneliness remains one of the biggest hidden challenges of life abroad. Several users said life in Western countries can become socially isolating despite professional success, especially for immigrants living away from family support systems.
Indian H-1B Workers Under Pressure
Thousands of Indian tech professionals in the United States are facing growing uncertainty after fresh layoffs at major technology companies including Meta, Amazon and Oracle. For many Indians working on H-1B visas, losing a job now means a race against time. Under US immigration rules, laid-off H-1B workers get only 60 days to find another employer willing to sponsor their visa. If they fail, they may have to leave the country. Many Indian professionals have spent years building careers, buying homes and raising families in America, making the pressure deeply

emotional and financial. Some workers are trying to temporarily switch to B-2 visitor visas to remain in the US longer. However, immigration lawyers say approvals and visa transfers are becoming more difficult as authorities demand extra paperwork
India Blasts Pakistan At UN Over ‘Genocidal Acts’

India sharply criticized Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council, accusing Islamabad of supporting terrorism and carrying out what Indian representatives described as “genocidal acts” against minorities and civilians.

'Mistake' Warning To Trump
In Hour-Long Tense Call On Iran War
Benjamin Netanyahu reportedly warned Donald Trump against what he described as a possible “mistake” in handling the Iran conflict during a tense hour-long phone call focused on the future of the ongoing war and diplomatic negotiations.
According to multiple international media reports, the conversation became heated as Trump pushed for a possible diplomatic framework to avoid a wider regional war, while Netanyahu argued that Iran’s nuclear and military capabilities still pose a serious threat.
Sources familiar with the discussion

said Netanyahu strongly opposed any agreement that would leave Iran with enriched uranium or allow Tehran to regain strategic strength.
The call reportedly took place as mediators including Qatar and Pakistan worked on a revised peace proposal
Despite disagreement with Netanyahu, Trump maintained a united front in public about their Iran plan. He told reporters that Netanyahu "will do whatever I want him to do" on Iran, though he also said they had a good relationship
aimed at reducing tensions between the United States and Iran. Trump is said to be balancing pressure for military action with efforts to secure a diplomatic settlement.
Despite reports of disagreement, Trump later publicly downplayed tensions and insisted that he and Netanyahu remain aligned on Iran strategy.

U.S. Oil Waiver Eases Pressure on India

Temporary 30-day relief allows shipment of already-loaded Russian crude as global energy markets remain tense
The United States has extended a temporary 30-day waiver allowing limited purchases of Russian oil cargoes already loaded on ships, a move expected to ease pressure on global energy supplies and benefit major importers like India. The announcement was made by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, who said the relief applies only to Russian oil already in transit. No new export deals or fresh purchases are covered under the waiver. The decision comes as global oil markets remain volatile amid tensions in the Middle East and concerns over supply disruptions. Analysts say the waiver could help stabilize crude prices and prevent shortages in energy-dependent countries. India, which imports more than 85% of its crude oil needs, is among the countries likely to benefit. Indian refiners have increased purchases of discounted Russian oil over the past two years to control fuel costs and inflation.

FBI Warns of Fake Immigration Scam

The Federal Bureau of Investigation has warned undocumented immigrants in the United States about a growing wave of scams involving fake immigration courts, bogus lawyers, and fraudsters posing as ICE agents and federal officials. According to FBI officials, scammers are demanding money through fake “advance bond” schemes and threatening victims with arrest or deportation if payments are not made immediately.
FBI warns undocumented immigrants about fake lawyers, virtual courts and scamsters posing as ICE officers to extort money through deportation threats across the United States
Authorities say some fraud networks have even staged fake virtual immigration hearings using people dressed as judges and law-enforcement officers to make the scams appear genuine. In New York, federal prosecutors recently accused a group of operating a fake immigration law firm and cheating migrants out of thousands of dollars through staged courtroom proceedings.
The scams mainly target undocumented immigrants frightened about deportation and legal status. Immigration experts say genuine U.S. authorities never demand money over unofficial phone calls or messages and advise migrants to verify lawyer licenses before making payments. Officials also warned people to avoid anyone promising guaranteed asylum approvals or “100% success” in immigration cases. While some local claims in viral Gujarati reports remain unverified, U.S. authorities confirm that immigrationrelated fraud has increased sharply in recent months, prompting nationwide warnings from the FBI and other agencies.
Donald Trump Says Gulf States Helped Stop Iran Strike

US President Donald Trump has said he is holding off a military attack on Iran planned for Tuesday at the request of Gulf states as "serious negotiations are now taking place".
In a post on Truth Social, he said he had been asked to do so by the leaders of Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.
He said he had been informed a deal
would be made that is "very acceptable" to the US, adding there would be "NO NUCLEAR WEAPONS FOR IRAN!"
But he warned the US would be ready to "go forward with a full, large scale assault of Iran, on a moment's notice" if there was no acceptable deal.
A senior Iranian military commander told the US not to make "strategic mistakes and miscalculations again".
Trump's latest announcement on Iran comes amid a drop in his approval rating and as polls show the war is increasingly unpopular at home. Some 64% of voters believe it was the wrong decision to go to war with Iran, according to a New York Times/Siena poll published on Monday. A major factor at play here is the fear Gulf Arab states have over how Iran is likely to retaliate after any further attacks by the US.
Fuel Prices Hiked Again by 90 Paise

Public sector oil marketing companies (OMCs) hiked petrol and diesel prices by 90 paise per litre each on Tuesday, raising the auto fuel prices for the second time in under a week’s time as they continue to grapple with financial strain amid the West Asia crisis. This price hike follows Friday’s increase by Rs 3 per litre, which was the first price hike in over four years. With Tuesday’s hike, petrol price went up to Rs 98.64 per litre, while that of diesel rose to Rs 91.58 per litre in Delhi, with corresponding changes in other parts of the country.
Iran parliament to vote on $58M bounties on Trump, Netanyahu
An American tested positive for Ebola after being exposed while working with a medical missionary group in the Democratic Republic of Congo, US officials say. The US national was being evacuated to Germany for treatment after developing symptoms over the weekend, said the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). At least 118 deaths have been reported in an Ebola outbreak in the DR Congo, with more than 390 cases suspected, officials have said.
Iran’s parliament is preparing to vote on a controversial bill proposing €50 million (around $58 million) bounties on former U.S. President Donald Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to multiple international reports. The proposed legislation is reportedly linked to escalating tensions following recent strikes in Tehran and the killing of Iran’s former Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei. Iranian lawmaker Ebrahim Azizi, chairman of parliament’s National Security and Foreign Policy Committee, reportedly said the bill would formalize financial rewards for anyone carrying out “counter-action” against Trump,

The Iranian parliament is scheduled to vote on a bill offering rewards for the assassination of Trump and Netanyahu for the February 28 strikes on Tehran that killed the then-supreme leader Ali Khamenei
Netanyahu, and senior U.S. military officials. Another Iranian MP was
quoted as saying parliament would soon vote on rewards for whoever “sends Trump and Netanyahu to hell.”The reports have sparked international alarm, with analysts warning that such rhetoric could further inflame tensions in the Middle East. However, there has been no independent confirmation that the legislation has officially passed or that the Iranian government has formally endorsed the proposal. The development comes amid fragile ceasefire efforts and growing hostility between Iran, Israel, and the United States. Security experts say the proposal, if approved, would mark one of the most extreme escalations in the long-running geopolitical conflict.

US Tightens Visa Signature Rules

The United States has announced strict new visa and immigration form rules that could directly affect thousands of Indian applicants. Under new regulations issued by US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), visa applications with invalid or incorrect signatures can now be rejected immediately.
The rule will come into effect from July 10, 2026. Earlier, applications with signature mistakes were usually returned so applicants could correct the error and resubmit the form. Under the new system, even if the mistake is discovered months or years later during processing, officials can still deny the application without giving any chance to fix it. Only original pen signatures, scanned copies of signed documents, or signatures made through USCIS’s official online portal will be accepted. Typed names, rubber-stamp signatures, copied signature images, or signatures created through unauthorised digital tools like DocuSign will be considered invalid. The rule applies to H-1B visas, employment-based green cards, work permits and several other immigration categories.
WHO Declares Congo-Uganda Ebola Emergency

May 17 - An Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo and Uganda has been declared a public health emergency of international concern by the World Health Organization, after 80 deaths were attributed to the disease.
The WHO said the outbreak, caused by the Bundibugyo virus, did not meet the criteria of a pandemic emergency but there was a high risk the disease could spread further to countries sharing land borders with the DRC. On Sunday, the U.N. health agency said in a statement that 80 suspected deaths, eight laboratory-confirmed cases and 246 suspected cases had been reported as of Saturday in the DRC's Ituri province across at least three health zones, including Bunia, Rwampara and Mongbwalu.
Trump Shares Gulf WarThemed Post Amid Tensions
US President Donald Trump sharply raised tensions with Iran after posting a wave of aggressive images and videos on his Truth Social platform amid the ongoing Middle East conflict.
Over several hours, Trump shared more than 20 AIgenerated posts showing missile strikes, drones attacking Iranian fast boats, explosions, space warfare and an American flag placed over a map of Iran. One image showed arrows pointing at Iran from multiple directions, while another carried the caption “BYE BYE, Fast boats.” A separate video showed a US warship targeting an Iranian aircraft, alongside a clip of Trump pretending to trigger an attack by saying, “fire, boom.”

showing himself in space-themed military scenes, appearing to oversee missile launches and explosions from orbit. The online campaign came shortly after he warned Iran to quickly accept a peace deal with Washington.
“For Iran, the clock is ticking,” Trump wrote, adding that “there won’t be anything left of them” if the standoff continued.

Trump warns 'clock is ticking' for Iran as peace progress stalls

US President Donald Trump has warned Iran the "clock is ticking" as talks to bring the war to an end have stalled.
"They better get moving, FAST, or there won't be anything left of them," he wrote on his Truth Social platform. "TIME IS OF THE ESSENCE!"
The message came as the president spoke with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Sunday, the Times of
Israel reported, citing Netanyahu's office. Iranian media meanwhile reported the US had failed to make any concrete concessions in its response to Tehran's latest proposals to end the conflict.
A lack of compromise from Washington would lead to an "impasse in the negotiations", the semi-official Mehr news agency reported.
Trump's message echoed his threat that a "whole civilisation" would die unless Iran agreed to a deal to end the war, shortly before the ceasefire was announced in early April. The president warned earlier this week that truce was on "massive life support" after rejecting Tehran's demands, labelling them "totally unacceptable".Esmail Baghaei, an Iranian foreign ministry spokesperson, insisted they were "responsible" and "generous".
The latest online blitz came after Trump issued a fresh warning to Iran, saying it had to move quickly towards a peace deal or "there won't be anything left of them."

The crisis has disrupted the Strait of Hormuz, a critical route for global oil shipments, sending energy prices higher and increasing fears of wider regional instability. China Plans Boeing Deal, Tariff Truce Extension

China announced on Wednesday that it will purchase 200 Boeing aircraft and seek an extension of its trade agreement with the United States reached in Kuala Lumpur last year. According to China’s Commerce Ministry, the U.S. will also provide supply guarantees for aircraft engine parts and related components as part of the Boeing deal.
The ministry said both countries are working toward reducing tariffs on goods worth at least $30 billion each through reciprocal cuts. Beijing also stressed that U.S. tariffs on Chinese products should not rise above the levels agreed under the Kuala Lumpur arrangement.
The move signals efforts by both sides to stabilize trade ties and strengthen economic cooperation after years of tariff disputes and supply-chain tensions between the world’s two largest economies
Rupee Hits Record Low Amid Iran Crisis

MUMBAI, May 20 (Reuters) - The Indian rupee fell to a record low on Wednesday as a deadlock in U.S.-Iran peace talks kept oil prices elevated, fuelling worries of a global inflation surge that has lifted bond yields to multi-year highs and weighed on equities. Elevated energy prices and weak capital flows, further strained by rising bond yields, have left India staring at a steep balance of payments deficit for the ongoing fiscal year. The rupee fell to 96.8650 per dollar on Wednesday, eclipsing its previous all-time low of 96.6150 hit in the previous session. The currency is down 6% since the Iran war began in late February. Overseas investors have pulled out over $22 billion from local stocks and bonds over the same period, while Brent crude prices have surged over 50%.
'Not Expecting More Company-Wide Layoffs This Year,' Meta CEO Tells Staff
He made the announcement on the same day the Facebook owner carried out a massive restructuring of the company, laying off 10 per cent of its workforce globally and transferring 7,000 other employees.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has told employees that the company is not expecting additional large-scale layoffs for the remainder of the year, offering a sense of relief after months of uncertainty across the tech industry.
According to internal discussions, Zuckerberg said Meta’s current focus is shifting from aggressive cost-cutting to long-term growth, especially in areas such as artificial intelligence, virtual reality and digital advertising. The remarks come after the company carried out multiple rounds of layoffs over the past two years as part of its broader restructuring strategy.
Meta, the parent company of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, had previously reduced thousands of jobs while trying to improve efficiency and control rising operational costs. The layoffs affected teams across engineering,

recruitment, marketing and product development. Employees reportedly welcomed
Zuckerberg’s latest comments, seeing them as a sign that the company may finally be entering a more stable phase. Many workers in the technology sector have faced prolonged anxiety as major firms worldwide continue to cut jobs amid economic pressure and rapid changes driven by AI technologies. Despite the reassurance, Meta is still expected to maintain tight hiring controls and closely monitor spending. Industry analysts say the company remains under pressure to balance heavy investments in artificial intelligence and the metaverse while continuing to deliver strong profits to investors. Meta recently posted solid financial results, helped by recovering advertising revenue and growing engagement across its platforms. The improved performance has strengthened investor confidence and eased fears of another major wave of workforce reductions in the near future.
EU paves way to finalise US trade deal and avoid Trump tariff hike
The European Union reached a provisional agreement on Wednesday to remove import duties on several U.S. goods, a major step toward implementing the trade framework agreed with Washington last July. The move is expected to help avoid higher U.S. tariffs on European products. Under the deal, the EU will eliminate duties on U.S. industrial goods and provide better access for American farm and seafood products, while the

U.S. will maintain 15% tariffs on most EU exports. European Parliament negotiators and EU member states also agreed on safeguards allowing the EU to suspend concessions if the U.S.
fails to honor the agreement. A sunset clause would end the deal in 2029 unless renewed through new legislation.
The agreement aims to stabilize the world’s largest trading relationship, worth around $2 trillion annually in goods and services. Former U.S. President Donald Trump had threatened steeper tariffs, including a possible 25% duty on EU car imports, if the bloc failed to meet commitments by July 4.
Final approval from the European Parliament is expected in mid-June.
UK Loosens Russian Oil Sanctions as Global Fuel Prices Rise
The UK has eased some sanctions on Russian oil and LNG as soaring fuel prices and supply concerns shake global markets during the US-IsraelIran conflict. From Wednesday, Britain will again allow imports of diesel and jet fuel refined from Russian crude in third countries such as India and Turkey. Some restrictions on transporting Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) were also temporarily relaxed. The move comes amid fears over disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, a crucial global oil shipping route. Jet fuel prices in Europe had more than doubled

after the war began, while UK petrol prices have climbed steadily. According
to RAC data, average unleaded petrol prices reached their highest level since the conflict started.
Airlines worldwide have cancelled flights and increased fares because of rising jet fuel costs.
The UK government insisted overall sanctions on Russia remain strong and said the temporary flexibility was needed to protect fuel supplies and market stability. However, critics, including French President Emmanuel Macron and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, warned that easing sanctions could indirectly help Russia fund its war in Ukraine.

Governor JB Pritzker Accuses Trump of Misusing Taxpayer Money

CHICAGO, IL – Governor JB Pritzker strongly criticized former President Donald Trump and his administration following reports that the Department of Justice announced a $1.8 billion taxpayer-funded initiative that, according to critics, would benefit Trump allies, including individuals connected to the January 6 Capitol events.
Critics argue the move prioritizes political allies at a time when many Americans continue facing economic challenges, including higher living costs and healthcare concerns.
In response, Governor Pritzker issued a statement condemning the reported initiative and accusing Trump of placing personal and political interests ahead of working families.
“Donald Trump is stealing $1.8 billion from taxpayers to enrich himself and reward his closest allies, billionaire cronies, and January 6 insurrectionists,” Pritzker said. “At a time when his failed

economic policies have skyrocketed grocery prices and stripped Americans of access to healthcare, his priorities demonstrate complete disregard for working families.”
Pritzker further criticized what he described as excessive government spending under Trump, referencing projects and policies he characterized as benefiting political allies rather than everyday Americans.
“In Trump’s White House there is unlimited taxpayer money to fund his vanity and self-enriching policies — like a $1 billion ballroom, an unending war of choice, and now a slush fund for his crooked allies — but never to deliver for working families,” Pritzker stated.
“Let’s call it like it is: The most corrupt president in American history is taking money out of your pocket.”
The statement also contrasted Pritzker’s policy priorities with those of his political opponents, emphasizing efforts focused on lowering costs, supporting working families, and challenging policies the governor views as harmful to Illinois residents.
Supporters of Trump have disputed similar accusations in the past, calling such criticisms politically motivated.

The Consulate is in touch with the family of the deceased and is also coordinating with friends and members of the community assisting those injured,” the Consulate stated.
Three others sustained injuries in the
accident. Preliminary investigations revealed that the minivan, carrying seven adults, was moving in the right lane at a very slow speed of approximately 10–15 mph while following another vehicle experiencing mechanical difficulties. Police said the driver of the other vehicle failed to recognize how slowly the minivan was moving and attempted to swerve left to avoid a collision. However, the vehicle struck the left side of the minivan, forcing it off the roadway and into a ditch. Authorities noted that the disabled vehicle itself was not involved in the crash.
Investigators further revealed that the minivan had only two front seats, while the remaining five occupants were reportedly seated on boxes of mangoes without seat belts.
Several occupants sustained serious injuries in the collision. Four people were initially transported to nearby hospitals before being transferred to medical facilities in the Chicago area for further treatment.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

Officials believe more details about the motive will emerge as the investigation continues. Police had already been searching for one of the suspects, aged 17, after his mother reported him missing and suicidal earlier in the day. She told officers that several weapons and her vehicle were also missing. Authorities became increasingly concerned after learning the teen was dressed

in camouflage and accompanied by another young man, 18, circumstances Wahl described as unusual for a suicide case.
Using license plate readers and other technology, officers tracked the vehicle and alerted local schools and nearby areas. While police were still interviewing the mother, reports came in of gunfire at the mosque.
Among the victims was mosque security guard Amin Abdullah, whom police praised for acting heroically during the attack. Wahl said Abdullah’s actions likely prevented even greater loss of life. Community members described him as a devoted protector who had worked at the mosque for more than a decade. Police responded within four minutes. As officers arrived, additional gunshots were heard nearby, where a landscaper was targeted but unharmed. The suspects were later found dead inside a vehicle a few blocks away.
The Islamic Center of San Diego, the county’s largest mosque, also houses a school for children. Mosque director Imam Taha Hassane condemned the violence, calling it “outrageous to target a place of worship.” Civil rights group CAIR also denounced the attack and expressed support for the Muslim community.

Indian-Origin Ex-CEO Faces Fraud Sentence

Parmar has been ordered to serve three years of supervised release and pay $125 million in financial penalties. He had pleaded guilty in 2025.
COLTS NECK, NJ - Parmjit Parmar, a 55-year-old former CEO also known as Paul Parmer, has been sentenced to five years in prison for his role in a massive $212.5 million investment fraud scheme, according to US court records. In addition to his prison sentence, Parmar has been ordered to serve three years of supervised release and pay $125 million in financial penalties. He had pleaded guilty in 2025. Court documents stated that between May 2015 and September 2017, Parmar worked with coconspirators Sam Zaharis and Ravi Chivukula in a scheme tied to financing efforts for a healthcare services company being taken private from the London Stock Exchange’s Alternative Investment Market.
According to investigators, a private investment firm invested approximately $82.5 million, while a group of financial institutions provided an additional $130 million, bringing total funding to nearly $212.5 million.
Authorities alleged that Parmar and his associates misrepresented the company’s financial health and significantly inflated its valuation to secure funding. The group also sought additional capital through public offerings, claiming the funds would support acquisitions of operating subsidiaries. However, several of those entities allegedly either did not exist or generated far less revenue than represented. Investigators said the conspirators created fake customers, altered bank statements, and fabricated financial records, causing investors to value the company at more than $300 million. The fraud was uncovered in 2017, and the company later filed for bankruptcy in 2018.

California Faces $1.3 Billion Medicaid Funding Hold by Trump Admin

WASHINGTON, DC- The Trump administration has withheld $1.3 billion in federal Medicaid reimbursements to California, significantly escalating its ongoing dispute with the state over alleged fraud within its healthcare system, particularly involving hospice care services.
The action represents the largest payment deferral ever imposed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and marks the first time the federal agency has taken such a step against California. The administration recently took similar action against Minnesota, withholding more than $300 million in Medicaid reimbursements over concerns surrounding questionable claims.
Speaking at the White House on May 13, Vice President JD Vance criticized California for what he described as insufficient efforts to combat Medicaid fraud. He argued that the state has not treated fraud prevention as a serious priority despite receiving substantial federal support. Vance also suggested that certain state Medicaid fraud control units have not been effectively utilizing the federal funding allocated to them for oversight and enforcement.
CMS Administrator Mehmet Oz said federal officials are seeking clarification from California regarding what he called “outlier payments” linked to suspicious claims. According to Oz, hospice care operations in the Los Angeles area have emerged as a major area of concern for federal investigators. Under the Medicaid funding system, states typically make payments to healthcare providers first and are later reimbursed by the federal government for eligible expenses. California has already paid providers serving low-income residents across the state. However, CMS stated it would temporarily withhold the federal reimbursement portion until state officials can verify that the services billed were actually delivered to eligible patients. While the $1.3 billion freeze is historically significant, it represents only a small portion of the more than $92 billion California received in federal Medicaid reimbursements during fiscal year 2024.

Initially introduced as a pilot project in February this year, the initiative has now evolved into a long-term student nutrition program aimed at ensuring reliable access to healthy meals for students facing food insecurity.
Currently, the program serves nearly 100 hot meals daily and approximately 1,500 meals each month at Middlesex Community College. WFM also plans to expand the initiative to additional colleges and communities throughout Massachusetts.

Texas YouTuber Targets Indian Firm in H-1B Probe

ALLEN, TX -Texas-based YouTuber and journalist Sara Gonzales, a reporter with Blaze Media, has intensified her investigative campaign targeting companies employing H-1B workers. In her latest ambush-style video, Gonzales accused Great America Technologies and its shareholder-director Nagarjuna Reddysakam of operating “ghost offices” while hiring foreign workers through the H-1B visa program.
Gonzales claimed the company’s listed address was inaccurate and that its contact numbers were nonfunctional. She alleged that despite lacking a visible office presence, the company
had employed nearly 30 H-1B workers. Using public business records, Gonzales traced the company’s origins to Andhra Pradesh native Ashok Reddy and Texas resident Laxmi Chaitanya, who later transferred control of the business to Reddysakam in 2024.
Reddysakam rejected the accusations, insisting that Great America Technologies is a legitimate company and stating that all official communications from U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services had been properly received. The exchange became heated after Reddysakam accused Gonzales of unfairly targeting Indians, while Gonzales argued that some Indian-run firms were “over-abusing” the H-1B system.
The controversy follows another major immigration-related lawsuit in Texas. Recently, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton sued a North Texas company and its Chinese owner, alleging they operated fake childcare businesses to fraudulently secure H-1B visas. Gonzales had earlier visited one of the listed addresses and reportedly found an abandoned property with overgrown vegetation instead of an operational facility.

Indian National Appeals to Reverse Decade-Long Prison Term

MINNEAPOLIS, MN– Harshkumar
Patel, an Indian national convicted for his role in a human smuggling operation connected to the deaths of an Indian family near the Manitoba–Minnesota border in 2022, has appealed to a U.S. court seeking to overturn his convictions and 10-year prison sentence. Patel filed a motion with the United States Court of Appeals, arguing that errors occurred in jury instructions and sentencing enhancements applied during his 2024 trial. Representing himself in the appeal, Patel claimed the government's arguments were “replete with logical fallacies and internal contradictions.”
The filing requests that Patel’s
convictions be vacated or certain counts reversed, while also seeking a resentencing hearing.
The appeal comes after Patel’s codefendant, Steve Shand, filed a similar request last month seeking to overturn his conviction and sentence. In April 2025, a judge denied previous defense requests for acquittals or new trials, ruling that evidence presented during the proceedings was sufficient to support the verdicts.
Patel and Shand were convicted in November 2024 in federal court in Fergus Falls, Minnesota, on four charges related to smuggling undocumented migrants into the United States and transporting them for financial gain. Jurors delivered guilty verdicts in less than 90 minutes.
The case drew international attention following the deaths of four members of an Indian family who froze to death while attempting to cross the border during a severe blizzard in January 2022.
The victims were identified as Jagdish Patel, 39; his wife Vaishali Patel, 37; their 11-year-old daughter Vihangi Patel; and their three-year-old son Dharmik Patel, who were found dead near the border after becoming trapped in extreme winter conditions.

DACA Holders Losing Employment Over Immigration Renewal Delays

WASINGTON, DC -Thousands of Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients across the United States are facing severe employment and financial hardships due to significant delays in renewal processing by U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). Many applicants are reportedly waiting four to six months—or even longer—for their renewals to be approved, causing work permits to expire despite filing on time. The delays have led to widespread job losses in industries such as healthcare, education, hospitality, and social services, where many DACA recipients play critical roles. Without valid work authorization, employers are legally required to terminate employees,
leaving many individuals suddenly unemployed and vulnerable to financial instability. Advocacy groups warn that the delays are creating escalating risks for recipients, including loss of driver’s licenses, disruption of healthcare access, and potential detention or deportation due to expired protections. While USCIS officially lists average processing times at around four months, numerous applicants report waiting more than six months for approvals.
Immigration advocates argue the ongoing delays reflect systemic issues within the program. Some organizations have accused the government of attempting to weaken DACA through administrative slowdowns, describing the situation as “death by a thousand cuts.” Reports also indicate that biometric processing requirements, including fingerprints and photographs, are once again contributing to longer wait times.
Experts are urging DACA recipients to submit renewal applications at least 120 days—and preferably up to six months— before expiration dates to minimize the risk of lapses in work authorization. Affected individuals are also encouraged to contact Congressional representatives to request inquiries into delayed cases and to maintain detailed documentation of all USCIS communications and notices.
Ohio and Texas.
Additional manufacturing investments include Ahmedabad-based Abhyuday Group, which plans to invest more than $900 million across five U.S. locations, creating approximately 1,500 jobs.
Jindal Pipe and Jindal Tubular USA
will jointly invest $87 million in Texas and Mississippi, while Jivo Wellness will invest $15 million to support job creation.
Polyhose is investing $2 million in Los Angeles to support the U.S. shipbuilding industry.
Technology and digital infrastructure projects also formed a major part of the announcements. Sterlite Technologies plans a $100 million investment focused on AI and telecom infrastructure, while Techdome Solutions will invest $7.5 million. RoshAi is investing $5 million in Texas, and Atri AI will establish operations in Menlo Park, California. Kissflow is expanding in Houston, Texas, while SatoriXR is launching operations in Michigan.
In the energy and advanced applications sector, MagnoInnovation Lab announced a $2 million investment to establish U.S. field operations. Research collaboration also featured prominently, with the Indian Institute of Technology Madras Global Research Foundation committing $4.5 million to establish a research and collaboration hub in California, along with plans for an additional East Coast location. Officials said the announcements reflect deepening economic ties between India and the United States, as Indian companies continue expanding investments across diverse sectors of the American economy.
Green Card Holders Fear Deportation Under New Removal Strategy

WASHINGTON, DC -The Trump administration has defended its effort to re-vet large groups of immigrants, arguing that weak screening standards during the Biden administration made the review necessary. However, the initiative has drawn criticism from former homeland security officials from both Democratic and Republican administrations, who questioned whether the agency’s resources are being used effectively. Internal figures reportedly show that only about 2 percent of reviewed green card holders were found to be potentially deportable.
Zach Kahler, spokesman for U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), said the agency is undergoing organizational changes to better protect American citizens and strengthen immigration enforcement priorities.
“USCIS’s first and foremost mission is to safeguard America by rigorously vetting and screening aliens,” Kahler said in a
statement, adding that the agency would continue implementing reforms aimed at improving the immigration system. According to Kahler, the individuals being re-vetted include people arrested or convicted of crimes such as sexual assault, domestic violence, driving under the influence, and drug-related offenses.
He also said some had admitted ties to organizations suspected of illegally obtaining sensitive U.S. technology for Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps. Others were accused of lying to obtain permanent residency.
Still, the low percentage of cases involving improper approvals suggests the reviews extend beyond immigrants convicted of crimes or fraud. Tens of thousands of additional green card holders nationwide are expected to undergo scrutiny. Officers have reportedly been assigned to examine criminal records and immigration applications for signs of fraud or misrepresentation.
Critics say the effort may further strain an already overburdened immigration system. Sarah Pierce, a former USCIS policy analyst now with the think tank Third Way, questioned whether the program is a responsible use of agency resources, especially given the growing backlog of immigration cases. USCIS had more than 11 million pending immigration benefit applications as of September, nearly double the number recorded at the end of 2019.

Chopra previously served as Director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) from 2021 to 2025 and earlier as a Commissioner of the Federal Trade Commission (FTC). During his tenure at the CFPB, the agency recovered nearly $10 billion in refunds and penalties from companies accused of violating consumer protection laws, according to the announcement.
Announcing the appointment, Newsom praised Chopra’s record of protecting consumers and working families. “As the Trump administration turns its back on consumers, we need strong and fearless leaders to keep protecting Californians,” Newsom said. “Rohit

Chopra has shown exactly that kind of leadership — taking bold action, standing up for working families, and enforcing real consumer protections.”
Chopra said California would continue pursuing stronger oversight and accountability measures even as federal agencies scale back enforcement efforts.
“While federal agencies are making life more expensive and enriching special interests, California will be firing on all cylinders to make sure markets aren’t rigged against families and small businesses,” Chopra said. “By bringing together dozens of boards, bureaus, and departments under one roof, California’s new agency will work to protect the public in health care, technology, financial services, and more.”

Reshma Saujani Says Mothers Deserve Real Policies, Not Political Messaging

Saujani questioned the administration’s priorities, saying that mothers across the country are struggling with rising childcare costs, inadequate paid family leave, healthcare affordability, and workplace inequality — issues she believes require direct policy action rather than promotional campaigns.
WASHINGTON, DC -Indian-American activist Reshma Saujani strongly criticized the Trump administration’s recent messaging surrounding motherhood, accusing officials of promoting ideological narratives and misinformation rather than delivering meaningful support for mothers and working families.
In a commentary published on May 12, coinciding with Mother’s Day, Saujani took aim at the administration’s newly launched federal website, “moms.gov,” as well as broader messaging tied to motherhood, reproductive health, and family policy. She argued that the initiative focuses more on political symbolism and culture-war rhetoric than on addressing the real economic and social challenges faced by American mothers. Saujani questioned the administration’s priorities, saying that mothers across the country are struggling with rising childcare costs, inadequate paid family leave, healthcare affordability, and workplace inequality — issues she believes require direct policy action rather than promotional campaigns.
She also criticized what she described as the administration’s attempt to frame motherhood through a narrow ideological lens, warning that such messaging risks spreading confusion and misinformation about women’s healthcare and reproductive rights. According to Saujani, meaningful support for families should include expanded childcare access, stronger maternal healthcare protections, paid leave programs, and financial assistance for working parents.
The commentary sparked renewed debate online over the federal government’s role in shaping narratives around motherhood and family values, particularly as reproductive health and women’s rights remain major political issues ahead of the 2026 election cycle.
Agency was established through a government reorganization initiated by Newsom last year.
The agency will consolidate multiple departments and regulatory bodies, including the Department of Consumer Affairs, Department of Real Estate, Department of Financial Protection and Innovation, Department of Cannabis Control, and the Department of Alcoholic Beverage Control.
The governor’s office said the new agency would support California’s broader affordability and consumer protection agenda, including efforts to curb junk fees, lower prescription drug costs through CalRx, strengthen privacy protections, and increase corporate transparency.
Chopra was unanimously confirmed by the U.S. Senate in 2018 after being nominated by then-President Donald Trump to serve on the FTC. Before entering federal service, he worked on consumer finance issues and banking reform.
He holds a Master of Business Administration from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and a Bachelor of Arts degree from Harvard University. He also received a Fulbright Fellowship to South Korea.
US Restaurant Industry Hit by Immigration Crackdown

Immigration crackdowns in the United States are hurting the restaurant industry, which relies heavily on immigrant workers for jobs such as cooks, cleaners, and dishwashers. Fear of deportation and raids has caused many workers to quit or avoid work, creating severe staff shortages. Many restaurants have reduced seating, shortened operating hours, or faced closure due to understaffing. Owners are also struggling with rising labor costs as they offer higher wages and benefits to attract workers. These expenses are often passed on to customers through higher menu prices.
The impact extends to agriculture, where labor shortages have reduced food production and increased ingredient costs for restaurants.
Experts say strict immigration enforcement may address legal concerns, but it is also creating major economic challenges for businesses, workers, and consumers across the United States.

UC Law SF Unveils ‘Clarity Pro’ to Support Seniors Beyond Medical Care

Sunjay Pushes Generational Shift in Democrats

CALIFORNIA -Even before former US Congressman Eric Swalwell withdrew from the California gubernatorial race, his campaign coordinator, Sunjay Muralitharan, had already resigned and publicly distanced himself from the campaign.
In a strongly worded statement, Muralitharan — the immediate past president of the College Democrats of America — explained the reasons behind his departure.
“I joined the Swalwell campaign to help elect a principled leader who would fight for the next generation,” Muralitharan said. “He had been my Congressman since I was in elementary school, and I believed — as many prominent Democrats did — that he was a man of character. These allegations, however, made it clear he is not.”
Muralitharan further stated that he has always stood with survivors and firmly believes that sexual assault has no place in public office, “let alone the governor’s mansion.”
“Consequently, I resigned promptly and publicly called for him to drop out of the race and resign from Congress,” he said in an interview.
“As young Democrats, it is our responsibility to build a party rooted in dignity and respect. That requires opposing perpetrators, no matter how powerful they may be,” Muralitharan added.
even when their needs are social or legal rather than strictly medical.
“Hospitals are often the first or only place older adults can go for help, but many of their care needs really require social or legal care, not medical care,” Hooper said. “With a little training, healthcare teams can become more effective at addressing social drivers of health and preventing downstream harms such as housing loss or conservatorship.”
Clarity Pro is the professional companion platform to Plan for Clarity an educational resource created for older adults and caregivers through funding from the National Institutes on Aging. Both platforms are designed as 50-state resources connecting older adults, caregivers, and professionals with legal, financial, and aging support services.
“Thanks to AARP Foundation, Clarity and Clarity Pro are free to users. We wanted to make it as easy and inexpensive as possible to help older adults and caregivers as they age,” Hooper added.

Indian Families Face Growing Green Card Delays
WASHINGTON, DC - The June 2026 Visa Bulletin released by the U.S. Department of State has brought significant setbacks for Indian green card applicants in employmentbased categories. The bulletin reflects retrogression in the EB-1 and EB-2 categories due to exceptionally high demand and increased visa usage by Indian applicants.
According to the bulletin, the EB-1 final action date for India has moved back to December 15, 2022, while the EB-2 category has retrogressed to September 1, 2013. The EB-3 category remains unchanged at December 15, 2013. The State Department stated that the heavy demand from Indian applicants in EB-1 and EB-2 categories forced the agency to retrogress final action dates in order to stay within the fiscal year 2026 annual visa limits. Officials also warned that further retrogression or temporary unavailability of these categories may

The Visa Bulletin is an important document for individuals seeking U.S. permanent residency, as it outlines visa availability and estimated wait times for green card processing. It contains two major sections: “Dates for Filing,” which indicates when applicants can submit adjustment of status applications, and “Final Action Dates,” which determine when applications can be approved for permanent residency.
The bulletin also details familysponsored immigration categories and explains how immigrant visas are allocated based on annual numerical limits, country caps, and applicant priority dates. Countries such as India, China, Mexico, and the Philippines remain heavily oversubscribed, leading to extended waiting periods for applicants. occur in the coming months if demand continues to rise.

NEW YORK, NY - Mayor Mamdani announced that the $12 billion budget deficit left by the Adams administration will be closed without cuts to essential city services. New Yorkers will continue to receive critical support for libraries, schools, parks, and affordable housing initiatives. In response to the Mayor’s budget announcement, Fahd Ahmed, Executive Director of DRUM Desis Rising Up & Moving, released the following statement:
“A mayor committed to working-class New Yorkers, working alongside strong people’s movements, has successfully addressed a $12 billion budget gap left behind by the previous administration. For the first time in decades, we are seeing that despite resistance from Albany, a mayoral administration with the political will to deliver can achieve results through cost-saving measures, a pied-à-terre tax on the wealthy, and without cutting essential services. New Yorkers should not have to endure annual political battles over funding for libraries and schools. At a time of unprecedented corporate profits, federal tax cuts for billionaires, and growing economic uncertainty for working people, Albany must tax the rich.”
