President Xi Jinping calls for China and the US to be "partners not rivals" ahead of high-stakes talks with his US counterpart in Beijing
China’s President Xi Jinping made a powerful diplomatic pitch this week, urging the United States and former President Donald Trump to view China as a “partner, not a rival” ahead of high-stakes bilateral talks that could reshape global politics and trade relations.
The meeting comes at a time when the world economy is under pressure from slowing growth, rising geopolitical tensions, supply-chain disruptions and fears of a new Cold War between Washington and Beijing. Xi’s remarks were seen as an attempt to cool
Rubio: China Most Important US Partner As Trump-Xi Meet
Washington: US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has described China as America's top geopolitical challenge and its most important relationship to manage ahead of President Donald Trump's meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping. Rubio, who accompanied Trump on a 2-day state visit to China, also called on Beijing to take a more active role in ending the war in Iran. "It's both our top political challenge, geopolitically, and it's also the most important relationship for us to manage," Rubio said in an interview with Fox News. "It's [China's] a big, powerful country. It's going to continue to grow, but we're going to have interests of ours that are going to be in conflict with interests of theirs." The Secretary of State said that to avoid wars and maintain peace and stability in the world, the United States will have to manage the conflicting interests between the two largest economies in the world.

Trump, known for his aggressive trade policies toward China during his presidency, has repeatedly accused Beijing of unfair business practices and strategic expansion.
Yet both sides now appear to understand that prolonged confrontation could damage global markets and deepen economic instability worldwide.
Analysts say the talks are less about friendship and more about strategic necessity. From artificial
Trump To Xi: ‘Fantastic Future Together’
Beijing: US President Donald Trump called his Chinese counterpart Xi Jinping a 'great leader' and spoke of a 'fantastic future' with China as the two leaders began a high-stakes summit in Beijing. In his opening remarks ahead of bilaterals, Trump said it was an "honour" to meet and call the Chinese president his "friend".
"We've gotten along. When there were difficulties, we worked it out. I would call you and you would call me. People don't know, whenever we had a problem we worked it out very quickly," he said.
"I say it to everybody, you're a great leader... It's an honour to be with you; it's an honour to be your friend... We're going to have a fantastic future together."The US president said he has brought the "best [business leaders] in the world" with him on this trip. intelligence and semiconductor technology to energy security and military influence in Asia, every major global issue now passes through the WashingtonBeijing relationship.
Financial markets reacted cautiously, while international observers described the dialogue as one of the most closely watched geopolitical moments of the year.
For now, the message from Beijing is clear: cooperation may be difficult, but conflict could prove far costlier for the world.
Trump Eyes Trade Gains At Xi Summit
As global attention remained fixed on the high-profile meeting between Donald Trump and Xi Jinping, trade emerged as the central focus of the summit. Trump expressed optimism about future economic cooperation, saying he was “looking forward to trade, good business” while insisting that any agreement must remain “reciprocal” and fair for the United States.
The meeting comes amid growing concerns over slowing global growth, supply-chain instability and tensions between the world’s two largest economies. Xi, meanwhile, pushed for partnership over rivalry, signaling Beijing’s willingness to reduce confrontation and stabilize relations with Washington.
Observers say both leaders are trying to balance competition with economic necessity.

Iran’s Araghchi Arrives In Delhi Aboard ‘Minab168’ For BRICS Talks
The situation surrounding the closure of the Strait of Hormuz-- the vital waterway through which around a fifth of global oil supply passes in peacetime-- is expected to feature prominently in bilateral talks between Araghchi and Jaishankar.
Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi arrived in New Delhi for a three-day visit to attend the BRICS foreign ministers’ meeting and hold talks with External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar amid the ongoing US-Israel conflict with Iran. Araghchi arrived aboard an aircraft named “Minab168,” symbolising the 168 girls killed in a missile strike in Iran’s Minab city at the start of the war. The visit marks Iran’s first major diplomatic outreach since the conflict escalated over two months ago.
A key issue during the talks is expected to be the Strait of Hormuz crisis. India is likely to push for safe passage of merchant ships through the strategic waterway, which handles nearly 20 percent of global oil supplies.
At the BRICS meeting, member nations are expected to discuss the Middle East crisis, energy security and global trade disruptions. However, sharp differences within the bloc over the Iran conflict may prevent a joint statement.
Iran also urged BRICS nations to oppose unilateral sanctions and support a more balanced global order.
Xi Warns Trump On Taiwan At Summit
Chinese President Xi Jinping warned US President Donald Trump that tensions over Taiwan could push the two countries “into conflict” if the issue is mishandled. Speaking during the high-stakes Trump-Xi summit in Beijing, Xi described Taiwan as the “most important issue” in China-US relations. Xi said stable ties between the world’s two largest economies were essential for global peace and economic stability, adding that the two nations should remain “partners and not rivals.” However, he strongly opposed any

support for Taiwan’s independence, calling it incompatible with peace in the Taiwan Strait. Trump, who began his two-day China visit by praising Xi as a “great leader” and “friend,” focused heavily on trade and economic cooperation. The US delegation included top executives from technology, defence and finance sectors, reflecting Washington’s interest in strengthening business ties with Beijing.
Taiwan remains a major flashpoint between the two powers. China claims the self-ruled island as its territory and has increased military activity around it in recent years. Meanwhile, the US continues to support Taiwan through defence and technology partnerships, especially in the semiconductor industry.
Trump, Xi Solved Differences
Leaders Meet Amid Trade, Taiwan And Iran Crisis
US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping held high-stakes talks in Beijing on Thursday as tensions between the world’s two largest economies continue to rise over trade, Taiwan and the ongoing Iran conflict. The summit is being viewed as one of the most important diplomatic meetings of the year, with global markets and governments closely watching whether Washington and Beijing can reduce tensions and avoid a deeper geopolitical confrontation.
‘We Worked It Out’:
Trump On Xi Relationship
During the opening interaction, Trump praised Xi and highlighted their long personal relationship. He said both leaders had managed to resolve difficult issues through direct communication whenever disputes emerged. “You and I have known each other for a long time,” Trump said. “Whenever we had a problem, we worked it out very quickly. We are going to have a fantastic future together.”
Trump described Xi as a “great leader” and “friend,” signalling a softer tone despite growing competition between the two nations. Xi, however, maintained a more cautious approach. He said China and the United States should remain “partners and not rivals,” while stressing that stable relations were important for global peace and economic stability.
Trade War Still A Major Flashpoint
Trade remains the biggest source of tension between the two countries. Trump’s aggressive tariff policies
in 2025 sharply increased duties on Chinese imports, with some tariffs rising to 145 percent. Beijing responded with retaliatory tariffs of up to 125 percent on American goods. The trade war affected global supply chains, manufacturing and technology sectors. Although negotiations later resumed in Geneva, major disagreements remain unresolved.
China has also used its dominance in rare earth processing — crucial for advanced technology and semiconductor production — as leverage during trade talks.
Taiwan Issue Raises Security Concerns
Taiwan remains the most sensitive political issue between Washington and Beijing. China claims the self-ruled island as part of its territory and has repeatedly warned the US against supporting Taiwanese independence. Last year, Washington approved an $11 billion weapons package for Taiwan, triggering strong protests from Beijing. Xi warned during the summit that mishandling the Taiwan issue could push the two nations “into conflict.”
Iran War Adds New Pressure
The Middle East crisis has added another layer of tension. China, a major buyer of Iranian oil, is deeply concerned about disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz, through which nearly 20 percent of global oil supplies pass. As global energy prices rise, both Washington and Beijing are under pressure to prevent wider instability. Analysts say the summit may not solve all disputes, but continued dialogue itself is being seen as a positive sign for global stability.

Air India To Cut US Flights Amid Rising Fuel Costs
Higher jet fuel prices, closed Pakistan airspace and rupee weakness force airline to reduce international operations
Air India is preparing to scale down several international flights, including routes to the United States and Canada, as rising operational costs put pressure on the airline’s finances.
Reports suggest the airline has already reduced North Americabound flights by nearly 20 percent in May. Services on long-haul routes such as Chicago could face temporary suspension in the coming months. Flights including Mumbai-New York, Delhi-Newark and Delhi-Chicago are also expected to see cancellations or reduced frequency until July.
The airline has reportedly been in talks with oil marketing companies seeking relief in Aviation Turbine Fuel (ATF) prices, but no major breakthrough has been achieved. With fuel expenses continuing to surge, Air India has now started cutting routes and frequencies to control losses.
Apart from the US and Canada, flight frequencies to Europe, Australia and Southeast Asia have also been reduced. Australiabound services, especially to Sydney and Melbourne, have reportedly seen the sharpest cuts.
10,000 Foreign Students Flagged In US OPT Visa Probe
Federal investigators uncovered thousands of students linked to suspect employers, with some "ghost offices" allegedly being managed remotely from India in violation of visa rules
The US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has flagged nearly 10,000 foreign students, including many Indians, in an alleged misuse of the Optional Practical Training (OPT) programme linked to F-1 student visas.
OPT allows international students to work in the US for up to one year after graduation, while STEM students can receive a two-year extension. The programme is often used as a pathway to H-1B work visas.
Acting ICE Director Todd Lyons said investigators found serious violations during site inspections. Officials alleged that some students were linked to suspicious employers and
were being supervised from India instead of the United States, violating programme rules.
Lyons claimed OPT has “become a magnet for fraud” and warned that investigations uncovered cases involving visa fraud, intellectual property theft, cyber scams and national security concerns.
He said the programme, started under former President George W. Bush, was originally meant for limited practical training but has now grown into what he called an “uncontrolled guest worker pipeline.”
ICE said the US would not tolerate misuse of the foreign student system.
RBI Warns Of Fuel Price Hike If Middle East Crisis Deepens
New Delhi:
The government might have to hike petrol and diesel prices if the Middle East crisis continues for a longer period, according to Reserve Bank Governor Sanjay Malhotra.
Speaking at a conference in Switzerland on Tuesday, Malhotra highlighted
that the government has been rather fiscally prudent and on the path of fiscal consolidation.
The Middle East conflict and the blockade of the Strait of Hormuz have disrupted oil and gas supplies, pushing energy prices higher.
India is highly dependent on imports of energy and fertilisers, Malhotra said, adding that the current disruptions are beginning to impact India. Referring to the crisis, the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) governor said if it continues for a longer period of time, then it is a "matter of time that the government will actually pass on some of these price increases".The government has not increased the retail prices of petrol and diesel despite the Middle East conflict that started on February 28.

Indian Woman In US Shocked At $250 Repair Cost For Minor Leak
An Indian woman living in the US has sparked an online conversation about high American repair costs. In a viral video titled "One small leak and Rs 21,000 reality check," an Instagram user named Amrita Singh shared her shock after paying $250 to fix a minor household leak. Singh highlighted the stark contrast between plumbing expenses in the US and India, where a similar fix would cost a small fraction of the price. "We paid $250 today to repair a small leak. In the US, if you have even a small repair job at home, you're easily looking at $100 or $200. Labour costs are so expensive here that for every little task," Singh can be heard saying in the video.
In the clip, a man can be seen using machinery to repair an indoor pipe as Singh captioned the video: "India me shayad Rs 500 to 1000 me ho jata yahan $250. (In India, this would probably have been done for Rs 500 to Rs 1000, but here, it costs $250)" As the clip gained traction, it triggered a discussion among immigrants, who echoed her surprise regarding the high cost of manual labour, service fees, and basic home maintenance abroad. "This is so true. Labour is extremely expensive in the US," said one user, while another added: "I should do this job only in the USA."

Artificial Intelligence and MedicineThe New Dream Team
Artificial intelligence is no longer standing outside the doors of medicine. It has already entered the hospital lobby, walked into the clinic, and quietly taken a seat beside the doctor. For decades, medicine depended on textbooks, handwritten notes, journals, and the experience stored inside the minds of physicians. A doctor would walk into a room carrying years of training and memory. Patients often arrived with little information of their own, trusting the white coat completely. That world is changing rapidly. Having practiced for over three decades, I recall how dependent we were on text books. Today, patients often walk into appointments having already searched symptoms, read studies, reviewed treatment options, and even explored survival statistics. A patient recently told me which intravenous iron preparation she wanted me to administer. Newer generation doctors have clearly embraced these changes. However, older physicians are experiencing growing pains learning and accepting these unavoidable changes. Better-informed patients often ask sharper questions. That keeps physicians alert, updated, and accountable. In many ways, that is healthy for medicine.
The rise of AI in healthcare resembles humanity’s technological journey itself. There was a time when the

far more detailed hospital discharge summaries than they once did. That matters because continuity of information often improves continuity of care.
The biggest excitement lies in diagnosis and treatment support. Imagine a chest X-ray being reviewed not only by a trained radiologist but also by an AI program trained on millions of images. The machine does not get tired at 2 a.m. It does not become distracted. It does not forget patterns it has already learned. Studies are underway to see whether AI can help detect cancers earlier, identify abnormalities faster,
and reduce human oversight errors. In oncology, the possibilities are enormous. AI systems are being trained to analyze pathology slides, genomic mutations, treatment responses, and imaging scans. They may help doctors identify which patients are most likely to benefit from a certain therapy. They may also help avoid unnecessary treatments and side effects. In the future, treatment plans could become even more personalized than they are today.
Artificial intelligence is only as strong as the information fed into it. Poor input produces poor output. Incorrect

data, incomplete medical history, or biased information can still lead to flawed recommendations. AI should not be viewed as a magical replacement for human judgment. At least for now, it works best as a powerful assistant rather than a substitute physician. They will become an inseparable duo, much like basketball legends Kareem AbdulJabbar and Magic Johnson. Besides being a science that doctors know, medicine is also a human emotion. A machine may recognize a shadow on a CT scan, but it cannot hold a frightened patient’s hand before performing a biopsy. It cannot understand the silence of a family hearing difficult news. It cannot replace trust, compassion, intuition, or experience gathered from years of caring for people. AI may be able to connect the dots, but doctors connect the dots of human emotion.
MEDICINE NOW
• AI assists doctors in diagnosis, imaging, scheduling, and treatment planning
• Patients arrive informed after researching symptoms and therapies online
• AI helps detect cancers, analyze scans, flag drug interactions, and organize records
• Personalized medicine is becoming possible through genomic and data analysis
• Human compassion, empathy, and clinical judgment remain irreplaceable alongside AI
Still, ignoring AI would be like refusing to use the internet in the modern age. The technology is moving too quickly and becoming too deeply integrated into everyday life. AI stocks are driving markets. AI customer service systems are replacing call centers. AI is entering classrooms, offices, homes, and operating rooms. Unavoidably, healthcare is simply part of that larger wave.
The goal should not be man versus machine. Essentially, it is the man with the machine. It is the new "dream team". That possibility alone makes this one of the most important medical revolutions of our lifetime.

Trump Heads To China Seeking Wins Amid Iran War Fallout
BEIJING — U.S. President Donald Trump will visit China on May 14-15 for high-level talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping as both nations attempt to stabilize relations following months of trade tensions and growing global uncertainty. The visit comes at a difficult moment for Trump, who is facing legal challenges to his tariff policies, criticism over the ongoing Iran conflict, and pressure ahead of U.S. midterm elections. Analysts say Trump is seeking both economic and diplomatic victories during the Beijing summit, while China enters the talks from a relatively stronger position. The two leaders are expected to discuss limited trade agreements involving American agricultural products, beef exports, and aircraft sales from Boeing. Trump is also expected to seek China’s assistance in persuading Iran to negotiate with Washington, as Beijing remains one of Tehran’s major economic

Alongside trade and Iran, Trump said he plans to raise issues including Taiwan, arms sales, and the case of jailed Hong Kong media tycoon Jimmy Lai. Beijing, meanwhile, is expected to push Washington to avoid policies that could encourage Taiwanese independence.
The summit will include formal ceremonies at the Great Hall of the People, a state banquet, and private meetings between the leaders. Trump is expected to be accompanied by top American business executives, including Elon Musk and Tim Cook.
Despite the high-profile nature of the visit, analysts believe the most likely outcome will be a temporary easing of tensions rather than a major breakthrough, with both sides aiming to avoid further economic escalation while protecting their strategic interests.

Iran Targets Karoline Leavitt Over ‘Minab 168’ Child Deaths
Iran has launched fresh salvos at US President Donald Trump’s administration on social media over the war, this time targeting White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt, who was celebrating her newborn. In a scathing attack, the Iranian Embassy in Armenia referred to the US strikes on a school in southern Iran, telling the MAGA official that her “boss” killed 168 children and alleging that she justified the attack.

Modi Urges Covid-Style WFH, No Foreign Trips Amid West Asia Tensions
PM Modi called for collective participation to help India face global economic disruptions, supply chain challenges, and rising prices caused by international conflicts.
At rally in Telangana, he urged people to use metros, car pooling, and reduce dependence on petroleum products and foreign currency.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday urged Indians to cut fuel use, avoid unnecessary foreign travel and delay non-essential gold purchases for a year as the West Asia conflict disrupts global oil supplies and strains foreign exchange reserves. Speaking in Hyderabad, PM Modi said patriotism also means responsible daily behaviour during economic crises. He appealed to citizens to use metros, public transport, car-pooling and railways to reduce petrol and diesel consumption. He also promoted electric vehicles.
The Prime Minister called for a return to Covid-era practices such as work-from-home, virtual meetings and online conferences to save fuel and resources.
He advised families to reduce edible oil consumption and prefer Made-inIndia products. Farmers were urged to cut chemical fertiliser use by 50 per cent and shift to solar-powered irrigation pumps.
The appeal comes as the Strait of Hormuz remains blocked following the US-Israel-Iran conflict, sharply raising oil prices and disrupting global shipping. Around 1,500 ships are stranded in the Gulf, according to the UN maritime body.
Iran has warned Britain and France against military intervention in the strategic waterway.
Trump Calls Iran Reply ‘Unacceptable’
President Donald Trump has dismissed Iran's response to US proposals to end the war as "totally unacceptable".
Iran's semi-official Tasnim news agency said Tehran's proposal, sent via Pakistan, which has served as a mediator, included an immediate end to the war on all fronts, a halt to a US naval blockade and guarantees of no further attacks on Iran.
A ceasefire meant to facilitate talks to end the war launched by the US and Israel in February has been largely observed, despite occasional exchanges of fire. Earlier this week, Trump repeated that the war in Iran will be "over quickly".
But Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that Iran's stockpile of enriched uranium must be "taken out" before the war against Iran can be considered over.
"There's still enrichment sites that have to be dismantled," Netanyahu said in an excerpt of an interview due to air on CBS's '60 Minutes' show.
On Sunday, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian did not directly reference the proposal but said: "We will never bow our heads before the enemy, and if talk of dialogue or negotiation arises, it does not mean surrender or retreat."

His leadership has drawn criticism from political allies, industry stakeholders, and advocacy groups, contributing to a broader wave of tension within the health department.
China Claims Role in Pakistan’s Rafale Strike

US Economy Adds 115,000 Jobs Amid Labor Market Uncertainty
The United States has reported the addition of 115,000 new jobs in its latest employment data, showing that the labor market is still growing, but at a slower and more cautious pace. The figures highlight a mixed economic picture where hiring continues, yet businesses are becoming more selective due to higher interest rates, inflation concerns, and global economic uncertainty. The economy of the United States added 115,000 jobs in the latest monthly report, reflecting steady but moderating momentum in employment growth. Key sectors
such as healthcare, hospitality, and professional services remained the main drivers of job creation, while
industries like manufacturing and technology showed weaker hiring activity. Wage growth has remained stable, suggesting easing pressure on inflation from the labor market side. Economists say the data indicates a “soft landing” scenario where job creation continues without overheating the economy. However, they also warn that sustained uncertainty could slow hiring further in the coming months. The report is likely to play an important role in shaping future decisions by the US Federal Reserve, especially regarding interest rate policy and economic support measures.

All 107 MLAs May Quit To Block DMK-AIADMK Move
Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam has warned that all its 107 MLAs may resign if either the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam or All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam attempts to form the government in Tamil Nadu. TVK emerged as the single-largest party with 107 seats but remains short of the 118-seat majority mark. The party claims it deserves the first chance to form government and accused the two Dravidian rivals of exploring a backdoor alliance to block it.
Governor R. N. Ravi reportedly refused Vijay’s request to stake claim without written support from 118 MLAs. TVK is now trying to secure support from smaller parties and may move court over the issue.
Meanwhile, the DMK is considering outside support to an AIADMK-led government to avoid fresh elections, though party leaders fear public backlash. Several opposition leaders, including Kamal Haasan, have backed TVK’s demand for a floor test in the Assembly.
US Court Cancels Trump’s 10% Global Tariff Amid Iran Crisis
Amid rising tensions with Iran, former US President Donald Trump has suffered a major legal setback after an American trade court struck down his 10% global tariff policy. The court ruled that the tariffs imposed under the 1974 Trade Act were unconstitutional and illegal. Trump had used Section 122 of the Trade Act in February to justify the tariffs, citing America’s growing trade

deficit. However, the International Trade Court said the law allows such emergency tariffs only during severe payment balance crises or sharp dollar instability, conditions that do not currently exist in the US economy.
In a sharp ruling, the court ordered the government to refund collected tariff money within five days to businesses and states that challenged the move. Around 24 states and several small businesses had opposed the policy. The ruling does not affect existing tariffs on steel, aluminium and automobiles. The Trump administration is expected to challenge the decision in a higher appeals court.
Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam are discussing possible powersharing options to prevent Vijay from taking office.

According to the agency, Hemant Khann-Kumar, described as a "criminal illegal alien" from India, had been convicted for an attempted lewd act upon a child. Patel, meanwhile, was for conspiracy to commit theft involving more than $60,000.
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) arrested two Indian nationals during a weekend crackdown targeting undocumented immigrants with criminal records.
Hemant Khann-Kumar was arrested in California after a conviction for attempting a lewd act on a child. Rinkeshkumar Kaushikbhai Patel was taken into custody in Tennessee after being convicted in a theft conspiracy involving more than $60,000. ICE said Patel received a six-year sentence,
though most of it was suspended. He will remain in custody pending deportation proceedings. The operation also included arrests of people convicted of
manslaughter, sexual assault, drug trafficking and crimes involving minors. Among them was Pakistani national Farhan Ahmed, convicted in New York for first-degree manslaughter causing serious physical injury. ICE officials said the agency continues nationwide enforcement operations under the Trump administration’s immigration policy. Authorities used ICE detainers to take custody of suspects from local jails before their release. Those detained may face immigration hearings and deportation.

US Tariff Whiplash Pushes China Toy Factory to Brink
A temporary tariff truce between the United States and China narrowly saved a Chinese toy manufacturer from collapse after months of intense trade tensions. Huntar Company had already begun shifting production to Vietnam as soaring U.S. tariffs threatened its survival. The last-minute easing of tariffs allowed the firm to halt the move and continue operations in China. The episode highlights how deeply global businesses remain vulnerable to political and economic battles between Washington and Beijing.
Atemporary trade truce between the United States and China last year narrowly saved Chinese toy manufacturer Huntar Company from collapse, according to company executive David Cheung. The family-owned firm, which produces educational toys for major American retailers such as Walmart and Target, was on the verge of shifting production to Vietnam after U.S. tariffs on Chinese goods surged to extremely high levels during the trade war.
Cheung said Huntar had already prepared to move production equipment out of China when Washington and Beijing agreed to ease tariffs during negotiations in Geneva on May 12 last year. The company immediately cancelled the shipment after hearing the news, a decision Cheung believes saved the business. Had the equipment crossed customs, Huntar would have faced major delays
and financial losses that could have shut down operations.
The company, based in Shaoguan in southern China, employs around 400 to 500 workers. Its near-collapse highlights the damage caused by the tariff battle between the world’s

Privacy concerns around smart glasses are growing rapidly as sales of Meta’s Ray-Ban smart glasses continue to surge. Women have reported being secretly filmed in public by users wearing the glasses, with videos later uploaded online without their consent. Because the built-in cameras are tiny and difficult to notice, many people do not realize they are being recorded. The glasses, developed with EssilorLuxottica, allow users to capture photos and videos with a simple tap on the frame. Meta currently dominates the smart glasses market, accounting for most global sales. However, lawsuits have emerged after users claimed they were unaware that their recordings, including sensitive or graphic footage, were being reviewed by workers in Kenya to help train the company’s AI systems.

Air India Crisis Deepens Before Ahmedabad Crash Report
Air India is facing a deepening crisis ahead of the final report into the 2025 Ahmedabad crash that killed 260 people. The airline is struggling with leadership uncertainty after CEO Campbell Wilson resigned amid reports of losses reaching $2.4 billion for the financial year ending March 2026. Owned by Tata Group since 2022, Air India has become the group’s biggest loss-making business, forcing discussions on cost-cutting and possible greater involvement from Singapore Airlines, which owns a 25.1% stake. The airline has also faced operational setbacks and safety concerns. Recent incidents include a Delhi-to-Vancouver flight turning back after lacking approval to enter Canadian airspace, while regulators identified 51 safety violations during audits.
Delayed aircraft deliveries, shrinking international routes, high fuel costs, Middle East tensions, and a weakening rupee have further hurt operations.
Aviation experts say the Tata Group may need to inject more funds to support the airline’s turnaround. However, the final Ahmedabad crash investigation could prove critical, with any negative findings likely to damage Air India’s reputation further.
key supplier of rare earth materials and manufactured goods, while many American companies still rely heavily on Chinese factories and infrastructure.
Huntar’s story also reflects the long history linking the two nations.
Cheung’s father fled mainland China decades ago, settled in California, and eventually built the business before later moving production back to China due to manufacturing advantages.
Although some American buyers continue pushing suppliers to diversify production outside China, Cheung says China remains difficult to replace because of its strong manufacturing network. Rising raw material costs linked to global tensions, including disruptions caused by the Iran conflict, have also made relocation more expensive. Cheung says he no longer hopes tariffs will disappear completely. Instead, businesses like his simply want stability to survive and plan for the future.
Nvidia CEO Joins Trump’s China Trade Push
Business delegation largely trying to resolve China issues
U.S. President Donald Trump arrived in Beijing for talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping, aiming to secure trade and economic gains while easing tensions between the world’s two largest economies. Joining Trump on the trip is Jensen Huang, whose company Nvidia is seeking approval to sell advanced AI chips in China.
Trade negotiations are also being held in South Korea as both countries try to maintain last year’s tariff truce. Discussions are expected to cover trade, technology restrictions, Taiwan, and the Iran conflict. Analysts say Trump faces greater political and economic pressure than Xi, making the summit especially important for the U.S. administration ahead of midterm elections.

Sarandos reflected on Netflix’s international expansion, noting that the company moved from operating in around 60 countries to over 190 markets in a single day nearly ten years ago. He wrote that while Netflix was expanding globally, the company believed

The report also referenced productions filmed outside major urban centers. Netflix cited the Colombian series Frontera Verde, which involved members of local Amazonian communities both on and off screen. Another example included multiple European versions of Love Is Blind, filmed in the Swedish town of Strängnäs, where productions reportedly support local hotels, restaurants and transport services.

IVF And Maternal Health Take Center Stage In Trump’s Latest Policy Push
WASHINGTON, DC – President Donald Trump on May 11 announced a new fertility and maternal healthcare initiative aimed at expanding access to IVF treatment, childcare support, and rural maternal care across the United States.
Speaking at a White House event, Trump said the US Department of Labor would create a new fertility benefit option that employers could offer outside traditional health insurance plans.
The initiative is designed to help American families facing rising fertility treatment costs and broader maternal healthcare challenges.
Trump credited Republican Senator Katie Britt with bringing attention to IVF access issues following an Alabama court ruling that created uncertainty around fertility treatment.
“She said, sir, we have to do something,” Trump said. “And I became the father of fertility.”
Trump also announced the launch of Moms. gov, a federal website intended to centralize resources for mothers and families.
According to administration officials, the website will provide information on prenatal and postpartum care, childcare support, and fertility resources.
The administration additionally highlighted TrumpRx.gov, a prescription drug pricing initiative that Trump said had significantly lowered the cost of fertility medications. Mehmet Oz said rural maternal healthcare remains a major concern, noting that maternal mortality rates are higher in many rural communities.
“Your zip code should not determine your mortality rate if you’re having a baby,” Oz said.
Senior administration official Alex Adams said the reforms would “bring faith-based providers back to the table” while reducing federal mandates that increase childcare costs.
The event also featured remarks from US Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr., who warned that declining fertility rates represent “an existential crisis” for the country.

Saudi Arabia Launches Secret Strikes on Iran as War Expands
Saudi Arabia secretly carried out airstrikes inside Iran in late March, according to Western and Iranian officials, marking the kingdom’s first known direct military action on Iranian soil. The strikes came after Iran targeted Gulf states with missiles and drones during the widening Middle East
conflict triggered by U.S.-Israeli attacks on Iran in February.
Officials said the Saudi attacks were limited retaliatory operations aimed at deterring further Iranian strikes. After the attacks, both countries entered intense diplomatic talks and quietly agreed to reduce tensions. Missile and drone attacks on Saudi Arabia sharply declined soon after.
The conflict also drew in the United Arab Emirates, which reportedly launched its own strikes on Iran. Despite military action, Saudi Arabia publicly continued calling for restraint and regional stability.
Analysts say Riyadh and Tehran now share a practical interest in preventing the conflict from escalating into a broader regional war.

Authorities found detailed victim lists, location information, vehicle details and photographs of collected gold in Pandey’s phone after his Arkansas arrest. Investigators also matched photos from his phone with images shared by the victim and tracked his rental cars and mobile phone location data to connect him to the crime. Pandey was brought to Florida last week after a warrant was issued on April 21. The court set his bond at $110,000 and ordered that he must not contact the victim. Officials said he could be transferred to ICE custody for deportation proceedings after release from jail.

US Dream Fades For International Students As Jobs Dry Up
For years, international students viewed the United States as the best destination for higher education and long-term career opportunities, especially in science, technology, engineering and mathematics. But stricter immigration rules, rising visa costs and a slowing job market are now making it far harder for foreign graduates to build a future in America.
The Trump administration’s decision to impose a $100,000 fee on certain new H-1B visa applications and focus on higher salary requirements has increased uncertainty among students. Questions are also growing over the future of the Optional Practical Training (OPT) programme, which
cited several students who claimed they were repeatedly rejected despite strong qualifications. The overall US job market has also weakened, particularly in the technology sector where layoffs continue and artificial intelligence is expected to replace more roles. Indian-Origin Californian Dies From Rare Valley Fever
Chiranjeevi Kolla, 37
WALNUT CREEK, CA – A 37-year-old Walnut Creek resident, Chiranjeevi Kolla, died May 5 after a severe case of Valley Fever led to respiratory failure following weeks of intensive medical treatment. What began as mild flu-like symptoms in early April quickly escalated into a life-threatening illness. Kolla was admitted to Kaiser Permanente, where he spent nearly a month in intensive care on a ventilator as doctors attempted to stabilize his condition. Initially believed to be severe pneumonia, his illness was later diagnosed as Valley Fever, a fungal infection medically known as coccidioidomycosis. The disease is caused by inhaling airborne spores of the Coccidioides fungus, commonly found in dry soil across parts of California and the American Southwest. While many infected individuals experience mild symptoms or recover without major complications, Kolla’s infection severely damaged his lungs and continued to worsen despite aggressive treatment.
“The doctors had done all that medicine could do,” said his cousin, Rama Koteswara Rao. “After thirty long days of machines, monitors and prayers, his exhausted body could fight no longer.”
Kolla, who worked in the healthcare technology sector in the San Francisco Bay Area, was the primary provider for his family. He is survived by his wife, Pavani Marella, and their 5-year-old son, Vihan.

US Targets 12 Naturalized Citizens Over Fraud, Crimes
WASHINGTON, DC - The U.S. Department of Justice has filed denaturalization actions against 12 naturalized citizens accused of serious offenses, including terrorism-related activities, war crimes, sexual abuse, immigration fraud, and financial crimes. The cases, announced by the DOJ, seek to revoke citizenship obtained through alleged concealment of criminal histories, false statements, or misrepresentation during the naturalization process.
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said individuals involved in terrorism, fraud, or violent crimes “should never have been naturalized as United States citizens,” adding that the administration is working to restore integrity to the immigration system. Assistant Attorney General Brett A. Shumate stated that the department is pursuing denaturalization cases at “record speeds.”
Among the individuals named is Ali Yousif Ahmed Al-Nouri, an Iraqi national accused by Iraq of leading Al-Qaida-linked killings of two police officers in 2006. Prosecutors allege he lied about his criminal background while seeking U.S. citizenship. Another case involves Oscar Alberto Pelaez, a Colombian priest convicted in 2002 of

multiple counts of child sexual abuse, who allegedly concealed those crimes during his naturalization process. Several cases involve alleged support for terrorist organizations. Khalid Ouazzani, originally from Morocco, pleaded guilty in 2010 to bank fraud, money laundering, and providing
material support to Al-Qaida. Salah Osman Ahmed of Somalia admitted to joining al-Shabaab and providing support to terrorists shortly after becoming a U.S. citizen.
Other cases include allegations of war crimes, sham marriages for immigration benefits, firearms trafficking, identity fraud, and investor fraud. Indian-born Debashis Ghosh is accused of concealing involvement in a multimillion-dollar investor fraud scheme before becoming a citizen. Former U.S. diplomat Victor Manuel Rocha faces denaturalization after admitting to spying for Cuba for decades before his naturalization.
The DOJ emphasized that the allegations remain claims only, and no court has yet determined liability in these cases.
Human-Centered Innovation And AI Leadership Drive TiEcon 2026
WASHINGTON, DC -TiEcon 2026 brought together global leaders in artificial intelligence, venture capital, healthcare and scientific research for a three-day summit in Silicon Valley under the theme “AI & You: Human Centered, AI Powered.” Held from April 29 to May 1, the conference featured executives from Microsoft, Meta and NVIDIA, along with Nobel laureates Dr. John M. Martinis, Dr. Randy Schekman and Donna Strickland. The summit hosted more than 80 sessions focused on applied AI, cybersecurity, healthcare innovation and startup growth. Programs such as the NVIDIA AI Bootcamp, TiE50 Awards and VC Connect provided entrepreneurs opportunities to learn, scale their businesses and connect directly with investors.
Anita Manwani, President of TiE Silicon Valley, said this year’s conference placed a stronger emphasis on diversity and innovative programming formats. She highlighted that the event featured more women speakers than ever before, with women represented across nearly every panel and discussion. One of the major additions was a new “Thought Leadership” section featuring TED-style presentations and solo talks without moderators, giving speakers a more direct connection with the audience. Manwani said the response from attendees, especially entrepreneurs and younger participants, was highly positive. Although attendance was lower compared to previous years, organizers attributed the decline to overlapping conferences, economic uncertainty and concerns over layoffs affecting travel and spending. Despite this, student participation remained strong, including 140 attendees from the University of California system. Several sessions, including the startup boot camp and NVIDIA workshops, sold out. Organizers also highlighted discussions on AI infrastructure, computing power and memory systems as key themes shaping the future of artificial intelligence. Manwani noted stronger international participation this year, with TiE leaders and entrepreneurs attending from across the globe. She added that organizers are exploring future changes to the conference structure, including the possibility of moving beyond Santa Clara, the event’s longtime home. She said TiE leadership is also evaluating whether the conference should become shorter and include more opportunities for direct networking, mentorship and smaller group interactions. “These are things that the TiE leadership team will sit down and brainstorm and come up with the strategy,” Manwani said.

Vivek Ramaswamy Wins Ohio Governor Primary
OHIO - Republican Vivek Ramaswamy secured a decisive victory in Ohio’s gubernatorial primary held May 5, defeating fellow Republican Casey Putsch and advancing to the November general election, where he will face Democrat Amy Acton. According to the Ohio Secretary of State’s office, Ramaswamy received 673,902 votes, or 82.47%, compared to Putsch’s 143,257 votes. Ramaswamy, 40, centered his campaign on economic issues, pledging to lower costs, raise wages, and improve schools.
“I know the American Dream exists because I’ve lived it right here in the state where I was born and raised,” he said following his victory. A biotech entrepreneur and former 2024 Republican presidential candidate, Ramaswamy ended his White House bid after finishing fourth in the Iowa caucuses and later endorsed President Donald Trump.
In February 2025, Ramaswamy launched his campaign for Ohio governor after resigning from his position in Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE). Since entering the race, he has received Trump’s endorsement and built significant fundraising momentum.
His campaign reported raising $9.88 million between July and December 2025, bringing his total fundraising for the year to $19.57 million, excluding personal contributions.
Campaign officials said the latest fundraising period marked the strongest ever for an Ohio gubernatorial candidate, surpassing records previously set by current Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine. They added that the campaign has drawn support from tens of thousands of donors, conservative lawmakers, and even some groups that have traditionally backed Democrats. Since launching his campaign, Ramaswamy has reportedly participated in more than 100 fundraising-related events across the state. His team says the current pace could surpass DeWine’s fundraising record from the 2018 gubernatorial race.

Rising Racism Fears, Indian Americans Demand Broader Public Outreach
NORTH CAROLINA - Prominent
Indian American leaders in North Carolina called for stronger engagement with mainstream American society and expanded public outreach to counter rising racism and stereotypes targeting the community.
The issue dominated discussions during the opening panel of the “India Abroad North Carolina Dialogue 2026” in Raleigh, supported by the Hindu Society of North Carolina and several community organizations.
State Senator Jay Chaudhuri said Indian Americans must take a more active role in shaping public perception and telling their own stories.
“Ultimately, for Indian Americans, we have to control our own narratives,” Chaudhuri said.
He expressed concern over growing “viral anti-Indian racism” and increasing social polarization across the United States.
“I am very concerned about the safety and security of our community,” he said. Chaudhuri emphasized the need for greater outreach to mainstream Americans, particularly in rural areas where exposure to Indian Americans remains limited.

Nikhil Gupta Seeks Lighter Sentence After Guilty Plea
NEW YORK, NY – Attorneys Isabelle A. Kirshner and Brian David Linder of the New York-based Clayman, Rosenberg, Kirshner & Linder LLP have been retained to lead the defense of Nikhil Gupta as he awaits sentencing in a highprofile murder-for-hire case that has drawn international attention. The case has remained under intense scrutiny in both Washington and New Delhi due to allegations that the intended target was Sikh separatist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun, who resides in the United States. The matter has fueled diplomatic concerns over alleged foreign interference on U.S. soil.
Gupta was charged in a three-count superseding indictment filed in late 2024, accusing him of participating in a conspiracy to orchestrate the killing with others involved in the alleged plot. After pleading guilty on February 13, 2026, to charges including murder-forhire, conspiracy, and money laundering, Gupta’s legal strategy has shifted toward
seeking a reduced prison sentence. He could face up to 40 years in federal prison. Sentencing is scheduled for May 29 before Judge Victor Marrero, who will consider federal sentencing guidelines and statutory factors before issuing a final judgment.
As part of the proceedings, Gupta agreed to forfeit $15,000 in cash along with two mobile phones to the U.S. government under a consent preliminary order. The seized devices include an iPhone 11 Pro Max and a Vivo Y56 5G phone, both initially confiscated by Czech authorities in 2023 before being transferred to U.S. custody. The cash was seized by federal agents in Manhattan in June 2023.
Court documents further state that Gupta is “jointly and severally liable” with co-defendant Vikash Yadav for any monetary forfeiture judgment entered in the case, meaning he could be held financially responsible for the full forfeiture amount tied to his codefendant.
stronger interaction with broader American society was essential in reducing prejudice and misconceptions.
“We need to step up and mix with people,” Karode said. “A lot of racism comes from ignorance and people not knowing us.”
Community leader Madhu Sharma encouraged Indian Americans to move beyond remaining within their own social circles and build stronger local connections.
“We need to be out there,” Sharma said.
“Reach out one person at a time and
become friends with them.”
She added that cultural identity and American integration could coexist.
“We can be proud Hindu, proud Indian and proud American at the same time,” she said. HSNC chairperson Sajjan Agarwal said first-generation immigrants must also reflect on their own role in fostering integration and community engagement.
“We do need to reflect on that and do more,” Agarwal said.
Entrepreneur Sandesh Sharda highlighted the growing economic impact of Indian Americans across the United States. “We are not just taking jobs or sending dollars to India, but investing in businesses across America,” he said. Several speakers, including Sathish Garimella, stressed the importance of stronger digital outreach and improving visibility of Indian American contributions through social media and public platforms.
North Carolina is home to a rapidly growing Indian American population of more than 110,000 residents, including nearly 42,000 in the Raleigh region. Indian professionals continue to play a significant role across technology, healthcare, academia, hospitality and entrepreneurship sectors.

Indian-American Business Leader Anil Kochhar Cancels Debt For 176 Students
RALEIGH, NC -Philanthropist Anil Kochhar surprised graduating students at North Carolina State University’s Wilson College of Textiles with a lifechanging announcement during the college’s commencement ceremony on May 8. Addressing 176 graduates at Reynolds Coliseum, Kochhar revealed that he and his wife, Marilyn Kochhar, would pay off all final-year education loans incurred by students during the 2025–26 academic year.
“It is my privilege to announce today,” Kochhar told the graduates, “that, in honor of my father, Prakash Chand Kochhar, Marilyn and I are providing a graduation gift” to eliminate those loans. The announcement triggered an emotional response inside the arena,
with students erupting in cheers and rising to their feet as the magnitude of the gift became clear.
Kochhar said he hoped the graduates would leave the university not only with degrees, but also with “greater freedom to pursue your goals, take risks and build the lives you’ve worked so hard to achieve.” Reflecting on his family’s journey, Kochhar shared how his father arrived in Raleigh from India decades ago with little certainty about the future.
“He could not have imagined the life it would create,” Kochhar said, adding that his father also “could not have imagined this moment.” Prakash Chand Kochhar, originally from Punjab, enrolled at the college in 1946 as only the institution’s second Indian student. He earned a bachelor’s degree in 1950 and a master’s degree in 1952 before building a successful career in the textile industry.
The Kochhar family later settled in the United States while maintaining strong ties with the university that helped shape their journey.
Drawing parallels between generations, Kochhar told students that although they come from a different era, they share “the same spirit of possibility” that defined his father’s path.

Immigration Case Delays Expected
After DoJ Closes San Francisco Court
SAN FRANCISCO, CA -The Department of Justice has closed a major immigration court in downtown San Francisco, a move that attorneys and legal experts warn could significantly worsen the Bay Area’s already massive immigration case backlog. The courthouse at 100 Montgomery Street officially shut down last week, despite earlier reports indicating it would remain open until January 2027. Over the past year, the Department of Justice reportedly dismissed 20 of the court’s 22
immigration judges, amid accusations that the Trump administration is reshaping the judiciary to align with its aggressive deportation policies. The DOJ’s Executive Office for Immigration Review (EOIR) described the closure as a “cost-effective” measure. While a smaller immigration court in San Francisco remains operational, most cases will now be transferred to the Concord Immigration Court, located about 35 miles away in the East Bay. The Concord facility opened in 2024 during the Biden administration’s effort to reduce the nation’s growing immigration case backlog, which reached 3.75 million pending cases by September 2025. San Francisco alone has nearly 120,000 pending cases, according to Syracuse University’s Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse (TRAC).

Indian-American Faces Fraud Charges And Possible Citizenship
WASHINGTON, DC – The United States Department of Justice has filed denaturalization cases against 12 individuals accused of obtaining U.S. citizenship by concealing serious criminal activity, war crimes, fraud, and alleged ties to terrorist organizations including Al-Qaeda and al-Shabaab. Among those named is Debashis Ghosh, a 62-year-old native of India, who is accused of participating in a multimillion-dollar investment fraud scheme linked to the construction of an aircraft maintenance facility.
Loss
According to federal authorities, Ghosh allegedly helped defraud investors of approximately $2.5 million both before and after becoming a U.S. citizen. Prosecutors claim that during his 2012 naturalization process, Ghosh falsely stated that he had not committed crimes for which he had not been arrested.
The Department of Justice argues that the alleged conduct disqualified Ghosh from satisfying the “good moral character” requirement necessary for U.S. citizenship.
Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche said individuals involved in fraud, sexual abuse, terrorism-related activities, or other serious crimes “should never have been naturalized as United States citizens.” The denaturalization actions are part of a broader federal effort to revoke citizenship from individuals accused of concealing criminal histories or providing false information during the naturalization process.

ACF Honors 12 Years of Dedication to Cricket Coaching Education
ACF launched its Scholastic Program – Level 1 in 2014 with a mission to introduce cricket to American youth through schools and physical education programs. The program focuses on teaching the fundamentals of cricket while adapting coaching methods to the American educational system
The American Cricket Federation (ACF), under the leadership of renowned multi-sport coach and Cricket Hall of Famer Jatin Patel, is proudly celebrating 12 years of excellence in cricket coaching and education across the United States. Recognized for his Lifetime Achievement Award and visionary leadership, Patel has played a major role in building one of the nation’s most respected grassroots cricket coaching programs.
ACF launched its Scholastic Program – Level 1 in 2014 with a mission to introduce cricket to American youth through schools and physical education programs. The program focuses on teaching the fundamentals of cricket while adapting coaching methods to the American educational system. Designed specifically from an American coaching perspective, the initiative helps educators, PE teachers, and schools better understand and teach cricket using techniques familiar to American sports instruction. The goal has been to simplify cricket coaching while creating awareness and interest among young students nationwide.
Building on this foundation, ACF introduced the Advanced Program – Level 2 in 2015. This certification trains coaches to mentor local Level 1 coaches and volunteers.
As of May 2026, more than 500 Level 2 certified coaches have been trained in the United States, excluding international participants and educators from schools and colleges abroad. These certified coaches continue to expand cricket coaching opportunities and strengthen grassroots development throughout the country.
Prior to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2019, ACF collaborated with Omtex Sports in India to develop innovative T20-based global virtual coaching programs. Continuing its commitment to modernization, ACF recently introduced the prestigious Level 3 GOLD Certification Program, focused on high-performance coaching. The advanced curriculum integrates sports analytics, video analysis, mindfulness training, and AI-driven digital coaching concepts to prepare coaches for the future of cricket development.
ACF’s programs are accredited by the ACF Board of Directors, approved by the American Cricket Education Council (ACEC), and endorsed by the Cricket Hall of Fame, established in 1981. The federation also enjoys nationwide recognition from United Cricket Coaches and Physical Education Teachers.
Over the past 12 years, ACF has conducted 92 weekend coaching clinics across the United States, including programs featuring cricket legends. The organization has trained educators and future PE teachers at nine universities while supporting more than 60 cricket academies and youth programs nationwide.
Operating under the philosophy “for the coaches and by the coaches,” ACF continues to promote grassroots cricket development through free scholastic programs, coaching camps, and educational initiatives. Looking ahead, ACF plans to launch 28 mini virtual courses through ACEC for schools and colleges beginning in the Fall 2026 semester, further strengthening cricket’s future in America.

Texas AAPI Groups Mark Historic 250th Anniversary Of America
STAFFORD, TX - A multicultural celebration honoring both Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month and the United States’ 250th anniversary brought together community leaders, cultural organizations, performers and dignitaries in Stafford, Texas, including Consul General D.C. Manjunath, in an evening centered on unity, diversity and cultural exchange.
The event, titled “Together We Shine: An AAPI Multicultural Celebration of America’s 250th Anniversary,” was hosted through a collaborative partnership between the City of Stafford, the Asia Society Texas Center and the Asian Chamber of Commerce. Organizers described the program as a tribute to the contributions of AAPI communities and a reflection of the shared values that connect diverse cultures across the United States.
FDA Authorizes Additional ENDS Products for U.S. Market
The celebration highlighted the importance of multicultural harmony and community collaboration, bringing together residents and organizations from across the region for an evening of music, dance and cultural performances representing various Asian American and Pacific Islander traditions.
The evening began with a pre-show gathering in the lobby, where attendees had an opportunity to interact with community members and participating organizations before the main program commenced. Throughout the event, performers showcased a wide range of cultural traditions, emphasizing the
richness and diversity of AAPI heritage. Organizers said the celebration was designed not only to recognize the historical and cultural contributions of AAPI communities, but also to strengthen bonds between communities through artistic expression and cultural appreciation.
“The spirit of friendship and collaboration among communities was at the heart of this celebration,” organizers said, noting that the event aimed to foster understanding and bring people together through shared experiences and performances.
Adding to the festivities, attendees also had the opportunity to participate in a special raffle drawing for four roundtrip airline tickets from Houston to destinations including Tokyo, Taipei, Manila and Singapore. The tickets were donated by the Asian Chamber of Commerce, and organizers said theater admission tickets automatically qualified attendees for the drawing.

WASHINGTON, DC -The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has authorized four Glas electronic nicotine delivery system (ENDS) products for legal sale in the United States through the premarket tobacco product application (PMTA) process. The approved products include Classic Menthol, Fresh Menthol, Gold, and Sapphire nicotine pods, each containing 5% tobacco-derived nicotine. This marks the FDA’s first authorization of non-tobacco and non-menthol flavored ENDS products.
According to the FDA, the authorization followed a rigorous scientific review that determined the products could help adult smokers switch from traditional cigarettes while reducing youth access. The devices use advanced age-verification technology requiring users to confirm their identity with a government-issued ID and connect the device to a smartphone through Bluetooth. The device stops functioning if separated from the verified phone and also performs random biometric checks. FDA officials stated that studies showed most adults aged 21 and older were able to complete the verification process, while youth and young adults struggled to bypass the restrictions. The agency said these measures could become an important tool in preventing underage nicotine use.
