Trump's Wealth Rewrites White House History
From modest presidential pensions to unprecedented private wealth, Donald Trump has transformed the financial legacy of the White House.
From modest pensions once paid to former U.S. presidents to Donald Trump's multibillion-dollar business empire, the financial profile of America's commander-in-chief has changed dramatically. Trump's return to the White House has reignited debate over wealth, ethics and the growing intersection of public office and private business.
President Donald Trump has become the wealthiest person ever to occupy the White House, with recent financial disclosures and media reports estimating his fortune in the billions. Unlike earlier presidents, whose post-office income largely came from government pensions, books and speaking engagements, Trump's wealth is tied to an extensive portfolio of real estate, golf resorts, licensing deals, media ventures and, more recently, cryptocurrency investments.
Couple Arrested After Empire State Stunt
Two climbers were arrested after scaling the Empire State Building in New York in what authorities say was an unauthorized marriage proposal stunt. The pair allegedly reached the top of the iconic skyscraper without permission, triggering a major emergency response from police and rescue personnel. Videos of the dramatic proposal quickly spread on social media.
Both individuals were taken into custody and are expected to face charges including trespassing and reckless endangerment.
Officials said the stunt put both the climbers and first responders at risk and emphasized that unauthorized access to the landmark is a serious offense. The incident has renewed concerns over dangerous social media stunts at famous tourist attractions.
The contrast with Harry S. Truman is striking. After leaving office in 1953, Truman returned to Missouri with limited personal wealth and relied on a modest federal pension, a situation that eventually led Congress to establish retirement benefits for former presidents. Trump's financial success has also attracted scrutiny. Critics argue that his business interests could create potential conflicts of interest while in office, while supporters say his private-sector experience and
financial achievements reflect entrepreneurial success rather than dependence on politics. The debate has intensified with the rapid growth of Trump's wealth through new business ventures, including digital assets and branded investments. Whether viewed as a symbol of American enterprise or a test of ethical boundaries, Trump's unprecedented fortune has reshaped the conversation about money, power and the modern presidency.
US Seeks Rewrite of North American Trade Deal
US Navy Chopper Makes Sea Landing
One service member was missing, and another three were injured after a US military’s MH-60S Sea Hawk helicopter, which was assigned to USS George HW Bush (CVN 77), made an emergency landing in the Arabian Sea on Wednesday. The incident took place at 3:30 am ET on Wednesday, and its cause remains under investigation, the US Naval Forces Central Command said in a post on X. The naval command added that three of the four crew members were recovered, and the search operation for the fourth crew member was underway. “On July 1 at 3:30 a.m. ET, the aircrew of an MH-60S Sea Hawk helicopter assigned to USS George H.W. Bush (CVN 77) conducted an emergency water landing in the Arabian Sea. There is no indication the emergency was caused by hostile action,” the US naval command wrote.
WASHINGTON : The Trump administration on Wednesday declined to extend the U.S.-Mexico-Canada Agreement, starting a decade-long clock to wind down the trade deal as it seeks changes to try to reshore manufacturing jobs and reduce U.S. trade deficits with its North American neighbors.
The decision, announced after a six-year review of the North American free trade zone, keeps the agreement in place for another 10 years with annual reviews before it expires, unless the three countries agree to renew it with changes.
Carroll Urges Trump to Pay $5M
Writer E Jean Carroll has asked a judge to order Donald Trump to pay the $5m (£3.7m) in damages awarded by a jury that found the president liable for sexually abusing and defaming her in a civil case three years ago. The request comes a day after the US Supreme Court declined Trump's request to review the case.
In May 2023, a New York jury awarded Carroll the damages over her civil claim that Trump sexually assaulted her in the 1990s, and then branded the incident a hoax on social media. Trump denied the allegations. Lawyers for Carroll said the writer had agreed to all of Trump's requests to delay paying the damages, which now amount to almost $5.8m with interest.

Indian Seafarer's Body Returns From Venezuela Without Organs
NEW DELHI: The mysterious death of an Indian seafarer in Venezuela has sparked outrage after his family claimed his body was returned to India without the heart, brain and liver. The shocking allegations have prompted demands for a high-level investigation into the circumstances surrounding his death and the handling of his remains. The seafarer reportedly died while serving aboard a vessel near the Venezuelan coast. After weeks of formalities, his body was repatriated to India. According to family members, they were stunned to learn during postmortem procedures that several major organs were missing. The family says they were never informed that any organs would be removed, nor were

The family is also seeking assistance from the shipping company and Indian diplomatic authorities to obtain medical records, autopsy reports and other official documents related to the death. They insist they will continue pursuing justice until the circumstances are fully explained.
Officials have not yet publicly confirmed the family's allegations or disclosed the cause of death. As the case gains attention, there are growing calls for a transparent inquiry to establish the facts and ensure accountability if any wrongdoing is found.

U.S., Iran Pause Attacks, Resume Talks
The United States and Iran have agreed in principle to halt military attacks and restart diplomatic talks, according to a U.S. official. The understanding is aimed at reducing tensions after weeks of heightened military activity and fears of a wider regional conflict. Officials from both sides are expected to resume negotiations in the coming weeks, with a focus on regional security and nuclear-related issues. While no formal agreement has been signed, the move is being viewed as a significant step toward deescalation. Analysts say renewed dialogue could help prevent further violence and open the door for broader diplomatic engagement. Both countries have yet to release detailed terms of the proposed arrangement.
India Tells Pak: 'Look Inwards'
New Delhi rejects allegations, urges Islamabad to address its own security challenges.
India has strongly rejected Pakistan's allegations linking it to a recent attack in Karachi, calling the claims "baseless" and without evidence. Responding to the accusations, New Delhi advised Islamabad to "look inwards" and address its own internal security challenges instead of blaming others. India said Pakistan has a long history of making unsupported allegations to divert attention from domestic issues. The Ministry of External Affairs reiterated that India has no role in the incident and urged Pakistan to focus on tackling terrorism and law-and-order problems within its borders. The exchange marks another episode of strained relations between the two neighboring countries, with tensions remaining high over security-related issues.

94-Year-Old Woman Gives Up U.S. Citizenship to Die as an Indian
After living in the United States for more than two decades, a 94-year-old woman has chosen to return to her roots instead of keeping the benefits of American citizenship. Her emotional decision to reclaim Indian citizenship has touched millions, showing that, for some, the bond with their homeland remains stronger than anything else.
ANDHRA PRADESH : In a rare and emotional decision, 94-year-old Kondaganta Mahalakshamma has surrendered her U.S. citizenship and applied to become an Indian citizen again, saying she wants to spend her final days and take her last breath in her motherland. Mahalakshamma moved permanently to the United States after her husband passed away 26 years ago. Her son, a doctor, lives in the U.S. She became a U.S. citizen in 2000 but continued visiting India regularly.
In 2018, she returned to India permanently and later surrendered her American passport. Although she holds an Overseas Citizen of India (OCI) card, which allows her to live in India indefinitely, she decided to regain full Indian citizenship.
On June 23, Mahalakshamma appeared before the district collector
and took the mandatory oath of allegiance in Telugu, her mother tongue, as required under the Citizenship Rules, 2009. Because of her age and hearing difficulties, her son assisted her during the oath ceremony.
A video of the ceremony has gone viral on social media. Speaking to officials, Mahalakshamma said she wants to be an Indian citizen when she dies and wishes to have her last rites performed in her native village.
District Collector V. Vinod Kumar described the occasion as a memorable one, saying Mahalakshamma's heartfelt wish deeply moved everyone present. Her application has now been forwarded to India's Ministry of Home Affairs for approval. While the citizenship process for foreign nationals is often lengthy, applications from former Indian citizens seeking to restore their citizenship can be processed more quickly.
At a time when many people retain U.S. citizenship for its benefits even after returning to India, Mahalakshamma's decision reflects her lifelong emotional attachment to her homeland. Her son has also been living in India for the past several years and practices at a private hospital.

During questioning, both men claimed they had been instructed over the phone by contacts in India to collect parcels and insisted they did not know what the packages contained or who was behind the operation. However, investigators say surveillance footage also places Vasava at another parcel pickup linked to a **$50,000 fraud in Wisconsin** earlier this week.
Both men now face serious felony charges. Authorities are investigating whether they were involved in a wider interstate fraud network. If convicted, they could face lengthy prison terms and potential immigration consequences, including deportation, depending on their legal status in the United States.

Iran Hit Pauses UN Ship Evacuation
An attack on a cargo vessel in the Strait of Hormuz has raised fresh concerns over shipping security despite the recent US-Iran peace agreement
Acargo ship was struck by an alleged Iranian drone in the Strait of Hormuz on Thursday, forcing the UN’s International Maritime Organization (IMO) to suspend plans to evacuate more than 11,000 stranded seafarers.
The vessel suffered damage to its bridge but no casualties or oil spill were reported. Although Iran has not claimed responsibility, the attack came hours after its Revolutionary Guards warned that ships must use routes approved by Tehran. The incident challenged US claims that the strategic waterway had reopened safely following last week’s agreement with Iran. Secretary of State Marco Rubio reiterated that international waterways must remain toll-free, rejecting any Iranian attempt to charge transit fees. The strike briefly pushed global oil prices higher, with Brent crude rising about 2% to $74 a barrel. The US-Iran agreement aims to restore safe navigation while broader negotiations continue over Tehran’s nuclear program and regional security.
The Trump administration has expressed increasing frustration over Israel’s campaign in Lebanon; and Rubio is skipping Israel on his ongoing Middle East visit, which some analysts described as a snub of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
Top Court Backs Trump on TPS
6-3 ruling clears the way to revoke TPS for over 356,000 Haitian and Syrian migrants, while also tightening asylum access at the US border.
The Supreme Court has ruled that the Trump administration can strip protected status from hundreds of thousands of Haitian and Syrian migrants which has allowed them to stay in the US for years.
The 6-3 ruling overturned decisions by federal judges that had blocked the administration from terminating Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for 350,000 people from Haiti and 6,100 from Syria.
TPS is granted to individuals whose home countries are unable to accommodate them, due to war or natural disasters. In a separate ruling, the court has said that migrants arriving at the border are not entitled to apply for asylum until they set foot on US soil, giving another win to the Trump administration.TPS recipients can legally live and work in the US for up to 18 months, subject to extensions. During this period, they can not be removed or detained by authorities on the basis of their immigration status.

But it's fine, they will get it at some point of time. Though I would still like to believe that my boys are based with basic values, which are about chivalry, and kindness and feminism. These are not medals, these are just honestly basic values.”
She further explained that she prefers keeping her advice simple rather than giving long lectures. “Kids do have a very limited capacity of listening, and they tend to lose interest, so I figured that there isn't any point in giving them gyaan. So all I told them very simply
was, you treat others in exactly the way you expect to be treated yourself. Whether it's a man or a woman!”
Speaking about the importance of mutual respect at home, Shefali concluded, “I was just thinking of how certain things are considered a privilege, which are actually basic necessities, like kindness, respect , being treated at par or even above! Like if my son's did something , I never shy away from appreciating them, or even apologizing when I am wrong. Because these are basic necessities!”
Shefali Shah has often spoken about her parenting philosophy, which focuses on guiding her sons with compassion, equality, and respect. Through her thoughtful approach and emphasis on fundamental values, the actress continues to inspire both on-screen and in real life.
Treat others the way you expect to be treated," says the award-winning actress as she shares the life lesson guiding her parenting

US Supreme Court Upholds Birthright Citizenship
The Supreme Court of the United States has ruled that birthright citizenship will remain protected under the Constitution, delivering a major setback to Donald Trump. In a 6-3 decision, the court struck down Trump's January 2025 executive order seeking to end automatic citizenship for children born in the U.S. to undocumented immigrants and certain temporary residents. The majority held that the order violated the 14th Amendment's Citizenship Clause. The ruling ensures that children born on U.S. soil will continue to receive American citizenship regardless of their parents' immigration status. The decision is expected to have significant legal and political implications as the debate over immigration continues.

Iran Warns US of War if Qatar Talks Fail
Iran has warned it is ready for military confrontation if upcoming talks with the United States in Qatar fail to produce results. Tehran said diplomacy remains its preferred option but stressed it would respond forcefully to any aggression. The negotiations are expected to focus on Iran's nuclear programme, regional security and sanctions. The international community is closely watching the outcome, fearing that any breakdown could further destabilise the region.
India Warns of Weak July Monsoon

Police investigating the alleged theft of donations from the Ram Temple in Ayodhya say jailed suspects have revealed how the cash was allegedly stolen. According to investigators, one accused removed bundles of currency during counting while others formed a human shield to block CCTV cameras and staff. The money was then hidden in a washroom inside the temple complex before being taken out later. Investigators are examining bank accounts, assets and financial transactions linked to the accused. Bank of Baroda has clarified that it handled only online donations through QR codes and had no role in counting or safeguarding cash offerings. Police are also verifying claims involving individuals associated with the temple trust, but no
official findings have been announced. CCTV footage, banking records and other evidence are being matched as the investigation continues into one of the most sensitive temple donation theft cases in recent years. Officials say the probe is now focused on tracing the full movement of the stolen cash and identifying whether more people were involved in planning or carrying out the alleged operation. Sources familiar with the inquiry say investigators are also trying to establish how long the suspected theft may have gone unnoticed and whether any lapses in internal monitoring helped the accused. With the case drawing wide attention, police are expected to question more witnesses and review additional records before drawing any conclusions.

New York, Chicago Face Heatwave
Adangerous heatwave is set to grip much of the United States this week as the extreme temperatures that scorched Europe spread across the country. The National Weather Service has warned that the eastern U.S. will experience intense heat and high humidity, pushing heat index
values to between 100°F and 110°F in several major cities.
Chicago, Detroit, New York, Washington, Cincinnati, St. Louis, Nashville, Atlanta, Little Rock and Dallas are expected to face the worst conditions. Parts of Iowa, Missouri and Kansas remain under Extreme Heat Warnings, while the heat is
Pakistan Threatens India Over Indus
New Delhi had placed the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance following a deadly cross-border terrorist strike in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam last year that killed 26 civilians.
Pakistan has sharply escalated its rhetoric over the Indus River dispute, warning of strong retaliation if its water rights are affected. The statement comes as tensions between India and Pakistan remain high following New Delhi's decision to review aspects of the Indus Waters Treaty after recent security concerns. India has maintained that any actions regarding the treaty will follow legal and technical procedures.
Pakistan, meanwhile, has urged the international community to ensure that the decades-old water-sharing agreement is respected.
Ohio Father, Son Held by ICE After Drug-Related
An Indian father and son who operated a gas station in Ohio have reportedly been taken into U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) custody after their arrests on drug-related charges. According to jail records cited in local reports, 50-year-old Jitendra Patel
forecast to expand across the South and Midwest through the July 4 holiday.
Health officials have urged residents to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activities during peak afternoon hours and seek air-conditioned spaces whenever possible. Warm overnight temperatures are expected to offer little relief, increasing the risk of heat-related illnesses. Heat is America's deadliest weather hazard, causing more fatalities each year than hurricanes, tornadoes and lightning combined.
Trump Seeks ICE Bond Limits
The Trump administration has asked the U.S. Supreme Court to allow immigration authorities to keep undocumented immigrants in detention while their deportation cases are pending, without granting bond.
Arrests
and his son, Yash Patel, were arrested by local police on June 18. Jitendra Patel was charged with drug trafficking, while Yash Patel faces charges of drug possession and being a fugitive from justice. Both were released from the local jail on June 21, after which they were reportedly transferred to ICE custody. The records do not specify the severity of the felony charges or the quantity of drugs involved. Authorities have also not released details explaining the fugitive charge. If the men are found to be in the U.S. without legal immigration status, their cases could proceed through immigration court, where any removal decision would be made under U.S. immigration law. ICE has not publicly commented on the case.
The request follows lower court rulings that blocked the policy. The administration argues that releasing detainees on bond often leads to missed immigration hearings and makes it harder to enforce removal orders. Keeping them in custody, it says, would ensure they remain available throughout the legal process. If the Supreme Court rules in the administration's favor, many immigrants arrested by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) could remain in detention until their immigration cases are resolved. The decision could significantly expand the government's detention powers and affect thousands of pending deportation cases.
The Supreme Court has not yet ruled on the petition. Until then, existing lower court orders remain in effect.

Indian Engineer
Pleads Guilty
to Not Reporting Safety Hazard Before Baltimore Bridge Collapse
BALTIMORE, MD - Karthikeyan Deendayalan, an Indian national who served as chief engineer aboard the cargo ship Dali, has admitted that he failed to report a critical safety issue on the vessel before it crashed into Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge, US authorities said.
Deenadayalan has reached a deferred prosecution agreement with federal prosecutors under which criminal charges against him will remain on hold, provided he complies with the terms of the agreement. According to court documents, Deenadayalan knew that the Dali and two related vessels were operating with a fuel-system configuration that lacked a backup mechanism. Investigators said the arrangement could make it more difficult for a ship to recover after a power
failure, posing risks to the vessel, nearby structures and surrounding shore areas. Authorities said Deenadayalan admitted that he failed to disclose the issue to the US Coast Guard.
Investigators also said he exchanged emails and text messages with Radhakrishnan Karthik Nair, a Synergy Maritime official who was charged separately last month as part of the federal investigation into the bridge collapse. Court documents allege that Nair instructed Deenadayalan to send a "convincing" email to the Dali's charterer regarding the ship's fuel consumption to prevent further scrutiny that could expose the fuelsystem practice. Deenadayalan admitted sending the email, according to the filing.
The case is part of the broader federal investigation into the March 2024 disaster, in which the Dali lost power before striking Baltimore's Francis Scott Key Bridge, causing the structure to collapse.
Last month, federal prosecutors charged Synergy Maritime Pvt. Ltd., Synergy Marine Pvt. Ltd., and Radhakrishnan Karthik Nair in connection with the incident.
The agreement with Deenadayalan was announced by the US Attorney's Office for the District of Maryland, the FBI, the US Coast Guard Investigative Service, and the Environmental Protection Agency's Criminal Investigation Division. It marks the latest development in the ongoing criminal investigation into the bridge collapse.
The cultural program showcased India’s rich diversity through vibrant performances representing different regions of the country. Additional performances by Shilpa Jurani, Brahashitha Gupta, Sweta Goswamy, singers Gautam Chopra and Jyoti Gupta, and numerous student performers kept the audience engaged throughout the evening.
Attendees also enjoyed refreshments, including popular snack packets and pani puri, while beautifully decorated surroundings created a festive atmosphere. The celebration concluded with a lively Bhajan Jamming session featuring Jyoti Gupta, Dr. Jag Kalra, Dr. Bhavani Srinivasan, Bina Sabapathy, Indu Jaiswal, Vandana Kumar, Dr. Neeru Bhambri, Harvinder Bhatia, Asha Dua, and Gautam Chopra. In her closing remarks, Indu Jaiswal thanked volunteers, media representatives, photographer Ruchita Kaul, and all attendees for making the event a success, expressing hope for an even larger gathering next year.

Contribute to Skokie's Historic Time Capsule Project
SKOKIE, IL — The Village of Skokie has once again captured a snapshot of its history for future generations with the sealing of the 2025 Time Capsule, a community-wide project that celebrates the village's diversity, culture, and evolving identity.
The initiative traces its roots back to 2000, when Skokie sealed its Millennium Time Capsule through a collaborative effort involving the Skokie Historical Society, Skokie Park District, and Skokie Public Library. Filled with contributions from local businesses, schools, cultural organizations, and community groups, the capsule remained safely stored at the library for 25 years before its scheduled opening in 2025.
The 25-year timeline was intentionally chosen because organizers feared that technology from 2000—including VHS videotapes stored inside the capsule— might become obsolete if left unopened for a longer period.
In August 2025, the Millennium Time Capsule was officially opened during a special ceremony at the Skokie Public Library. The event featured a video montage created from the restored VHS recordings, while local civic leaders reflected on the historical significance of selected items recovered from the capsule.

ROBBINSVILLE, N.J. As the United States prepares to celebrate its 250th anniversary, thousands of volunteers across North America are demonstrating that community service remains one of the nation's strongest traditions. More than 50,000 people participated in the 2026 BAPS Charities Spirit of Service Walk-Run, organized in over 100 cities throughout the U.S. and Canada. The initiative brought together families, elected officials, first responders, and community leaders to promote volunteerism while raising support for local charitable causes.
The walk-runs transformed parks, town squares, and community centers into hubs of civic engagement, benefiting more than 90 organizations, including food banks, cancer research institutions, mental health programs, law enforcement initiatives, and first responder agencies.
In Greater Houston, over 2,200 participants gathered at Sugar Land Town Square alongside Congressman Christian Menefee and Mayor Carol McCutcheon. Menefee urged people to look beyond themselves and focus on helping neighbors and strengthening communities. In Dallas, State Representative Matt Shaheen praised the event for bringing people together through the shared joy of serving others.
New Jersey's Edison event attracted Congressman Frank Pallone, state legislators, and local mayors, while Pennsylvania's walk featured Congressman Brian Fitzpatrick and other elected officials. Similar support came from public leaders in Connecticut, Michigan, and Mississippi, reflecting the event's nationwide reach.
BAPS Charities follows a decentralized model, allowing local organizers to select charities that best address community needs. Beneficiary organizations
highlighted the impact of the initiative. The American Cancer Society credited the charity's continued support for advancing cancer research, while New Jersey's Carol G. Simon Cancer Center said donations directly help patients. Family Promise of the Coastal Empire in Georgia emphasized that the funding provides essential resources for homeless families, and Connecticut's Rocky Hill Fire Department said the support will help recruit and retain volunteer firefighters.
Guided by the principle, *"In the joy of others lies our own,"* BAPS Charities continues its global mission of humanitarian service through health, education, disaster relief, environmental initiatives, and community empowerment. The 2026 Spirit of Service Walk-Run stands as another example of how local volunteerism can strengthen communities and inspire lasting civic responsibility.
Indian American Lawyer Faces $255K ICE Fine
HiIndia Newsdesk
WASHINGTON, DC - U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is seeking more than $255,000 in civil penalties against an immigration attorney accused of filing fraudulent asylum claims, federal officials announced.
ICE's Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) issued five Notices of Intent to Fine against attorney Vinod Doddamani on June 22, alleging that he prepared and filed 64 fraudulent documents across 32 immigration cases. Authorities are seeking the maximum civil penalty of $255,232.
According to the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Doddamani operates a nationwide immigration law practice and primarily represents Indian nationals seeking asylum before immigration courts. Federal authorities allege that asylum applications submitted by Doddamani contained declarations that were identical or nearly identical in language, factual narratives and supporting details, raising concerns about the legitimacy of the claims.
“Fraudulent asylum claims threaten the safety of Americans by overwhelming our burdened immigration system and delaying the removal of dangerous criminal aliens,” DHS General Counsel James Percival said in a statement.
“For too long, immigration attorneys have not been held to the same ethical standard as other attorneys. Under President Trump, this will no longer be tolerated,” Percival said. “ICE is seeking a fine of more than $250,000 from attorney Vinod Doddamani. By holding him accountable, we are sending a message to other immigration attorneys who engage in fraud across the country: your days of abusing and defrauding our immigration system are over.”
The enforcement action follows a May directive issued by Percival that called for additional measures to combat fraudulent asylum claims.
Doddamani, who was born in India and raised internationally, is a German citizen and has been based in South Florida since 2009. The allegations have not been adjudicated, and Doddamani has the opportunity to respond to the notices and contest the proposed penalties.
