Trump's nuclear deal with Saudis jettisons longstanding US demands

The Trump administration's nuclear agreement with Saudi Arabia reversed a years-long stance toward a key Middle East ally.

Past US presidents insisted that Saudi Arabia normalise relations with Israel in exchange for receiving American nuclear technology for civilian energy programmes.

According to reports of the deal's contents, President Donald Trump gave Saudi Arabia what it wanted without extracting concessions for Israel in return - and over objections from critics who argued that it could spark a nuclear arms race in the region. On Thursday he said in a social media post that the nuclear pact was conditioned on Saudi Arabia joining the Abraham Accords, a series of deals reached in his first term that normalised relations between Israel and several other Gulf states. But it was not immediately clear if that was stipulated in the text of the

Trump Announces 200% Tariff Threat on Generic Drugs

The President said the objective of this policy is to protect the people of the United States

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday announced a phased tariff regime on imported generic medicines that will culminate in a 200 per cent duty from August 2028, saying the measure is intended to bring pharmaceutical manufacturing back to the United States. The move could significantly impact India, the largest supplier of generic medicines to the US.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump said generic drugs imported into the US will continue to attract a zero per cent tariff for the next two years from August 1, 2026. The tariff will then rise to 100 per cent for one year before increasing to 200 per cent thereafter.

"Effective August 1st, 2026, all Generic Drugs being brought into the United States will continue to have a TARIFF of ZERO PERCENT for two years, after which the TARIFF will be raised to 100 per cent for one year, and 200 per cent thereafter," Trump said.

According to reports of the deal's contents, President Donald Trump gave Saudi Arabia what it wanted without extracting concessions for Israel in return - and over objections from critics who argued that it could spark a nuclear arms race in the region.

Rubio Warns Iran After Revenge Threat

Marco Rubio Iran remarks: The US Secretary of State said Tehran is seeking a deal but warned costs would rise as hostilities continue despite ceasefire attempts.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has responded strongly to Iran’s warning of retaliation, saying Tehran should not expect the United States to respond with restraint if attacked. His remarks came after Iranian officials issued an “eye for an eye” warning following recent tensions between the two countries.

Rubio said any attempt by Iran to target American interests would face a much stronger response, using the phrase “a head for an eye” to highlight Washington’s determination to protect its citizens and allies.

The exchange has increased concerns over further escalation in the region, with both sides trading warnings amid ongoing military and diplomatic tensions. The US has continued to defend its actions as necessary for national security, while Iran has accused Washington of aggressive policies.

International observers are closely monitoring the situation as diplomatic efforts continue to prevent a wider conflict in the Middle East.

Analysts warn that continued threats from both sides could increase instability in the region. Global leaders have urged dialogue and restraint to avoid further escalation and protect regional security.

deal - which has not been released - or that Saudi Arabia had agreed to that condition, or would be forced to join the accords. The deal appears to be the latest example of Trump jettisoning the traditional American approach to the Middle East, which centred on Israel and finding a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. In his second term Trump has focused primarily on strengthening America's economic influence to compete with China and other rivals. Analysts said the nuclear pact with Saudi Arabia sent a signal that the US wants to keep regional allies in the fold even if it means angering Israel in the process. "Countries in the Middle East want to develop their nuclear infrastructure and they're going to do it even if the US is not involved. Washington at this point is recognising that," said Yusuf Can, a Middle East expert at consulting firm Amena Strategies. With this nuclear deal, he added, "the US is basically saying you don't have to work with China. You can work with us".

Sikh Teen’s Family Questions Civics Contest Scoring

The family of a 15-year-old Indian-American Sikh student has questioned the scoring of the Trump administration’s Presidential 1776 Award civics competition after he narrowly missed a top-three finish, according to a report by the US digital news platform NOTUS

The report said the family of Aangad Singh, a high school student from Milford, Connecticut, believes errors in judging may have cost him a place among the winners of the national civics contest organised by the US Department of Education as part of celebrations marking America’s 250th anniversary. The competition included an online civics test, regional rounds and a national final held at the Kennedy Center in Washington, DC, on June 30. The winners received scholarships and a visit to the White House.

US House passes Republican-only $95 billion Iran war budget plan

House Republicans have approved a $95 billion funding package aimed at supporting the US military campaign against Iran and advancing President Donald Trump’s priorities. The measure passed 216-214 along party lines, with Speaker Mike Johnson pushing to move forward despite a divided Congress. Some conservative lawmakers raised

concerns over the lack of spending cuts to balance the package, while Democrats opposed increased overseas spending and called for more focus on domestic needs. The legislation now moves to the Senate, where its future remains uncertain as lawmakers debate its scope and funding priorities. The package includes funding aimed at strengthening military operations and supporting key initiatives backed by the Trump administration. Republican leaders argue the measure is necessary for national security and global stability. Democrats continue to criticize the proposal, warning that large foreign spending commitments could come at the cost of domestic programs and public services. The Senate’s response will determine the next step for the legislation.

Student unions and other organisations should collaborate and work together for permission and logistics.”

Earlier in the day, CJP founder Abhijeet Dipke said he would be away from the Jantar Mantar protest site “for few hours” because of fever and severe body pain. The CJP leader said, “I’ve been down with a fever and severe body pain for the last few days, but I’ve been pushing through with painkillers. "

Why I Quit Reality Shows Sunidhi Chauhan

Sunidhi Chauhan has shared the reason behind her decision to step away from judging singing reality shows, saying she no longer felt that the format aligned with her beliefs. Speaking candidly with veteran actor Shekhar Suman on his chat show Shekhar Tonite, the singer reflected on her choice and the changes she has witnessed in the entertainment industry.

During the conversation, Shekhar Suman observed that Sunidhi has consciously stayed away from controversies and has also disappeared from television as a reality show judge. Responding to the observation, the singer revealed that leaving those shows was entirely her own decision. “I was for a very, very long time. But then I stopped because mujhe laga ki yeh meri jagah nahin hai,” Sunidhi said, explaining that she no longer felt connected to that space.

When asked what prompted the decision, the singer spoke about the changing nature of music-based reality shows. According to her, the distinction between music production and reality television has become increasingly blurred.

Vikrant Massey: National Award Changed Industry Trust

Vikrant Massey has reflected on the transformative impact of 12th Fail on his career, revealing how the film not only earned him the National Film Award for Best Actor last year but also changed the industry's perception of him. In an exclusive conversation with News18, the actor admitted that the recognition has opened new opportunities and increased the confidence filmmakers have in him.

Speaking about the shift, Vikrant said, “The access to certain rooms has increased. I wouldn’t deny that. But that’s the nature of life.” Despite the newfound recognition, he clarified that he never felt resentful about receiving appreciation only after the success of 12th Fail.

“Not just in the film industry but also in sports, politics and the corporate world, if you’ve achieved a benchmark, the world starts seeing you differently. It really doesn’t surprise me. I’m not bitter about the fact that log mujhe National Award ya 12th Fail ke baad alag nazar se dekh rahe hai,” he shared, adding, “I always aware of this facet of life. It was like this before me and it will remain that way even after I’m gone.”

The actor also recalled a candid conversation with filmmaker Vidhu Vinod Chopra during the making of 12th Fail. Calling Chopra his mentor,

Vikrant said, “He’s my mentor and someone who has handheld me throughout my journey and continues to do that. He told me, ‘Why would someone pay their hard earned money to watch you in a theatre when they can easily access you on Netflix? Woh apne ghar pe baithke tujhe dekh sakte hai.’ That has changed now.”

Vikrant believes audience trust has grown significantly since then. “There’s a lot more trust now. I realise there’s a lot more responsibility on me. I recognise that there’s a certain section of people who are shelling out their money to watch me. I want to be worth their time and money,” he said.

The Musafir Cafe actor also spoke about the prejudice he faced while transitioning from television to films. Having started his acting career with the TV show Dhoom Machaao Dhoom, Vikrant said the industry often looked down upon television actors. “I come from TV, a medium which is extremely powerful. But your professional circle tends to look down upon it. But the lines are blurring now and that has happened with the advent of OTT,” he remarked. He further revealed that being labelled a “TV actor” used to offend him because it reflected a bias.

“Today, you don’t refer to an actor who began their career with TV as a ‘TV actor’ like the way it used to be. I would really get offended when a supersedure would describe me as a TV actor. An actor is an actor. Usko badalne ke liye maine bahot koshish ki,” Vikrant concluded.

'Don't Waste Our Time': CJI Kant Rejects Plea on Parliament March Police

Action

The Supreme Court on Wednesday declined to urgently hear a plea seeking intervention over alleged police violence during the Cockroach Janata Party's (CJP) Parliament march in New Delhi. Chief Justice of India Surya Kant refused to take up the matter at the mentioning stage, saying the court was not interested in viewing video evidence of the alleged crackdown.

The plea was mentioned before a bench headed by Chief Justice Surya Kant, with the petitioner's counsel requesting an urgent hearing and claiming to possess videos showing alleged police excesses against student protesters. The lawyer argued that the demonstrators were protesting issues such as the NEET-UG 2026 paper leak and reforms in the National Testing Agency (NTA). However, the Chief Justice declined the request, remarking, "Don't waste our time, and don't waste your time," and added that the court had no time or interest in watching the videos at this stage. The plea relates to clashes that erupted during the CJP-led march towards Parliament, where police used force to disperse protesters after violence broke out. The Supreme Court's refusal came a day after the Delhi High Court also declined an urgent hearing on a similar petition.

Astronaut-Physician Anil Menon Showcases Space Station Health Research

HOUSTON, TX – NASA astronaut

Anil Menon has offered a glimpse into his first days aboard the International Space Station (ISS), spotlighting a medical experiment that could improve healthcare during future missions to the Moon and Mars while also benefiting emergency medicine on Earth.

In a social media post on July 17, Menon shared that he spent the day working with fellow NASA astronaut Jessica Meir inside the station's Life Sciences Glovebox on the IVGEN Mini experiment. The project aims to convert the ISS's recycled drinking water into sterile, medical-grade intravenous (IV) saline solution.

“She’s running IVGEN Mini, our IV fluid generation experiment, and the idea is simple to say and hard to do: turn the station’s drinking water into sterile, medical-grade IV fluid,” Menon wrote.

The technology addresses a critical challenge for deep-space missions.

Standard IV saline bags have a shelf life of about 16 months, while a crewed mission to Mars could last several years. Carrying sufficient supplies is also impractical, as treating a seriously ill astronaut could require more than 100 liters of IV fluid.

Instead, IVGEN Mini purifies the station's recycled drinking water to pharmaceutical standards through an advanced filtration process before mixing it with premeasured sodium chloride to produce normal saline on demand.

“As a physician, this one hits close to home,” Menon said. “If we can make IV fluid 250 miles up, we can make it in a field hospital, a disaster zone, or anywhere the supply chain doesn’t reach.”

The experiment is part of NASA's efforts to develop technologies that support astronaut health on future deep-space missions while creating practical solutions for Earth. Earlier, Menon shared an emotional video message from orbit, thanking his family, former colleagues at SpaceX, NASA, and the U.S. Space Force. He said the ISS serves as a stepping stone toward humanity's long-term goal of exploring the Moon and Mars, adding, “Let’s go, team. Let’s do this.”

Mehta, Executive Member of GOPIO Central Jersey. Chapter President Nishith Mehta welcomed participants and highlighted GOPIO’s mission of promoting education, community service, leadership and civic engagement.

Dr. Tushar Patel, Past President of GOPIO Central Jersey, introduced Dr. Sanghvi and thanked the speaker, volunteers, sponsors and community partners for their support.

With cardiovascular disease remaining

a major global health challenge and South Asians facing higher risks, the seminar emphasized the importance of awareness and preventive healthcare.

GOPIO Central Jersey said the strong participation reflects growing demand for reliable health education and reaffirmed its commitment to organizing programs that promote healthier communities.

Trump Tightens Green Card Rules For Immigrants On Benefits

take effect in 60 days.

WASHIINGTON, DC -The Trump administration has reinstated a broader interpretation of the "public charge" rule, allowing immigration officials to consider an applicant's use of public benefits, including Medicaid, food

stamps, and housing assistance, when deciding green card and U.S. entry applications.

The final rule, issued Thursday, reverses a 2022 Biden administration policy that largely limited the public charge test to applicants receiving cash assistance. Under the revised policy, immigration officers may evaluate an applicant's use of public benefits alongside factors such as age, health, education, job skills, financial resources, and overall ability to support themselves.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) said the new rule will

"The Trump administration is upholding the rule of law and protecting American taxpayers from subsidizing aliens who may become dependent on public benefits," USCIS spokesperson Zach Kahler said. The Department of Homeland Security argued the Biden-era policy restricted officers' discretion and said the revised rule restores the long-standing principle that immigrants should be selfreliant.

Immigration advocates sharply criticized the change, warning it could discourage eligible families from accessing essential healthcare, nutrition, and housing assistance. Benjamin Johnson, executive director of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, said the policy could create fear among mixed-status families, potentially harming U.S. citizen children and relatives. Sarah Krieger of the National Immigration Law Center called the measure an attempt to intimidate immigrant communities and deter them from using public services.

The rule closely resembles the Trump administration's 2019 public charge policy, which faced extensive legal challenges before being replaced by the Biden administration's narrower standard in 2022.

Red Cross Declares Blood Shortage, Seeks Donations

LOS ANGELES, CA - The American Red Cross has declared an emergency blood shortage after the nation's blood supply dropped by nearly 25% in June, prompting an urgent appeal for donors to help prevent disruptions to patient care.

The organization said a sharp decline in blood donations since late May has created a widening gap between available blood supplies and hospital demand. The shortage is particularly severe for platelet donations and blood types O positive and B negative. According to the Red Cross, hospitals are currently using nearly 3,500 more units of blood each week than

anticipated, while demand typically rises during the summer trauma season. At the same time, seasonal factors such as vacations and the end of school blood drives have contributed to the decline in donations. "A readily available blood supply serves as the backbone of modern medicine. Without it, lifesaving treatments and critical access points to care are not possible," said Dr. Courtney Lawrence, medical director for the American Red Cross.

"Emergency departments, operating rooms and labor and delivery units can't support patients with the most urgent needs, and cancer patients may have to wait for treatment. We're asking donors to give now before doctors are forced to make those difficult decisions," Lawrence added.

The Red Cross is urging eligible donors to schedule appointments through its Blood Donor App, at RedCrossBlood.org, or by calling 1-800-RED CROSS.

To encourage donations, the organization said anyone who gives blood between July 13 and July 31 will receive a Fandango movie ticket by email, valued at up to $15, including ticket price and fees.

The Red Cross also highlighted widespread misconceptions about the nation's blood supply.

A recent survey found that fewer than one in five respondents knew blood cannot be stockpiled because it has a limited shelf life and must be continuously replenished through volunteer donations. The survey also found that only about half of respondents believed it was very likely that they or someone close to them would need a blood transfusion, even though someone in the United States receives one every two seconds.

Supplying about 40% of the nation's blood, the American Red Cross said immediate donations are essential to rebuild inventories and ensure hospitals can continue providing lifesaving care without interruption.

Illinois Approves Two New Energy Laws as Gov. Pritzker Signs Bills

CHICAGO, IL -Illinois Governor JB Pritzker has signed two bills aimed at lowering energy costs for low-income households and increasing transparency in utility billing.

House Bill 4456 expands the state's low-income utility discount program by raising eligibility for the federally funded Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) from 200 percent to 300 percent of the federal poverty level, allowing more families to qualify for discounted electricity and natural gas bills. The measure also strengthens the Illinois Commerce Commission's authority to oversee the program and ensures discounts apply to a customer's entire utility bill. House Bill 5524 requires the Commission on Government Forecasting and Accountability (COGFA) to publish a detailed report explaining all charges and fees that appear on residential electricity bills. The report must identify the laws or agencies responsible for each charge, the programs or services they fund, and the revenue generated, giving consumers a clearer understanding of their monthly utility bills.

Blood donation remains essential for maintaining adequate supplies at hospitals, as a single donation can help multiple patients in need of lifesaving care. Health officials continue to encourage eligible donors to participate in blood drives throughout the year to ensure a stable blood inventory.

NRS urged eligible individuals to consider donating blood and supporting their local communities. Those interested in finding a nearby blood donation event can visit the New York Blood Center's website at nybc.org for information on upcoming blood drives and donor eligibility requirements.

CALIFORNIA - The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has issued a wanted notice for an Indian national, alleging his involvement in a Punjab-based transnational organized crime network. The agency identified the suspect as Nitish Kaushal, also known as "Lala," and said he is associated with the Jaggu Bhagwanpuria Organized Crime Group (Bhagwanpuria OCG), which originated in the Indian state of Punjab and allegedly operates in California's Central District and other locations. According to the FBI, the organization is involved in murder, kidnapping, drug trafficking, extortion, weapons trafficking, money laundering, and

human smuggling. Kaushal is accused of carrying out violent acts on behalf of the group, including kidnappings and assaults.

A federal arrest warrant was issued for Kaushal on June 25, 2026, by the U.S. District Court for the Central District of California in Los Angeles after he was charged with Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) conspiracy. The FBI described Kaushal, born on June 15, 2000, as an Indian national with black hair and brown eyes. He is approximately 5 feet 11 inches tall, weighs about 190 pounds, and is known by the alias "Lala."

The agency warned that Kaushal should be considered armed and dangerous and an escape risk. It urged anyone with information about his whereabouts to contact the nearest FBI office or U.S. Embassy or Consulate, or submit a tip through the FBI's online tip portal. The wanted notice comes days after the U.S. Department of Justice announced Operation Hard Ball, a multinational law enforcement operation targeting three India-based organized crime groups. Authorities said the operation resulted in 24 arrests across the United States, Canada, and Europe, with 17 defendants charged in connection with the Bhagwanpuria organization.
