PANAJI: Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar tried to hold back his smile when a legislator called him a “parallel prime minister” in the Goa assembly on July 22. Speaking on the first day of the month-long assembly session, independent MLA Rohan Khaunte said Parrikar, known for his proximity to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is as good as a “parallel prime minister”. “We all know honorable chief minister’s position in Delhi. He is as good as a parallel prime minister,” Khaunte said. A smiling Parrikar jokingly suggested the legislator had flipped around his initials “MP” the wrong way.
said: “We have written x a letter to the ICSE (Indian Certificate of Secondary Education) board to cancel the recognition it granted to Vibgyor High School, in which a minor student was allegedly sexually assaulted by two of its staff members.” The commissioner also issued a show-cause notice to the school why no objection certificate (NOC) issued to it by the state government should not be withdrawn in light of the horrific crime. In yet another heinous incident, a three-year-old girl was sexually assaulted by a juvenile in a village 30 km from here while her parents were away from home, police said. The incident occurred late on July 18 when the 16-year-old accused sexually assaulted the child, taking advantage of her parents’ absence from home at Thatteguppe village,” said a police official.
her letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, text of which was released here on July 22. Disagreeing with the idea of installing buoys on the India-Sri Lanka international maritime boundary line (IMBL), Jayalalithaa refered to a suit pending in the Supreme Court against the transfer of Katchatheevu island to Sri Lanka said the state government does not consider the maritime boundary as a settled issue. Meanwhile, the Chief Minister has requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi to intervene and secure the release of Indian fishermen and their fishing boats from Sri Lankan custody. In a letter to Modi Jayalalithaa said: “I request your immediate intervention to secure the release of the 43 Indian fishermen from Tamil Nadu and their 55 fishing boats, including the 46 mechanized fishing boats.”

parents demanded arrest of the two teachers accused of sexually assaulting a six-year-old student in a private school here, even as the Karnataka government directed the ICSE board to cancel the school’s recognition. “We want the two accused arrested and tried in a fast-track court to do justice to the child victim. Why are they (police) not acting fast? How long they want to interrogate the accused,” Nandish Reddy, a parent of a ward reading in the school, told IANS here. Though the horrifying incident occurred July 2 in the premises of Vibgyor High School, it came to light July 15 when the victim’s parents lodged a complaint with police, as the school management failed to act against the accused.
