Joe Biden says he was 'very blunt' with Israeli Threats fly as Jim bid to be US leaders on humanitarian assistance to Gaza Jordan's House Speaker turns ugly HiIndia Newsdesk

US President Joe Biden said he was “very blunt” with Israeli leaders that they would be “held accountable” if they didn’t allow humanitarian assistance to relieve the suffering of people in Gaza displaced by its raging conflict with Hamas. He also said Israel has been "badly victimised," but it would lose credibility worldwide if it did not explore the opportunity to relieve the suffering of these people who have nowhere to go. Israel has told 1.1 million Palestinians living in the north of Gaza to move south ahead of the possible ground operations against the Hamas militants who launched an unprecedented attack on Israel and killed more than 1,400 people on October 7. The UN agencies have warned that an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe is unfolding in the besieged city of Gaza. “As they probably told you I was very blunt with the Israelis,” Biden told reporters on Air Force One while on his return from Tel Aviv where he expressed America's solidarity with Israel and held crucial talks with Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

“Look, Israel has been badly victimised. But the truth is that if they have an opportunity to relieve the suffering of people who have nowhere to go, it’s what

Tel Aviv: President Joe Biden said Wednesday he had seen "data" from the US Defense Department backing his assertion that Palestinian terrorists, not Israel, were to blame for a devastating strike on a Gaza hospital. Promoted Asked by reporters in Tel Aviv what made him sure that Israel was not responsible for the strike that killed hundreds on Tuesday, Biden replied, "the data I was shown by my defense department".

HiIndia Newsdesk

A State Department official in the bureau that oversees arms transfers resigned this week in protest of the Biden administration’s decision to continue sending weapons and ammunition to Israel as it lays siege to the Gaza Strip in its war with Hamas. In his resignation letter, Josh Paul, who has been the director of congressional

they should do. And if they don't, they'll be held accountable in ways that may be unfair,” Biden said on his way back from Israel on Wednesday. “And my point to everyone is, look, if you have an opportunity to alleviate the pain, you should do it. And if you don't, you're going to lose credibility worldwide. And I think everyone understands that,” Biden said after he spent several hours in Israel in the aftermath of the terrorist strike from Hamas on October 7.

and public affairs for the State Department’s Bureau of PoliticalMilitary Affairs for over 11 years, said the Biden administration’s “blind support for one side” was leading to policy decisions that were “shortsighted, destructive, unjust and contradictory to the very values we publicly espouse.” “The response Israel is taking, and with it the American support both for that response and for the status quo of the occupation, will only lead to more and deeper suffering for both the Israeli and the Palestinian people,” he wrote, adding, “I fear we are repeating the same mistakes we have made these past decades, and I decline to be a part of it for longer.”

Republican lawmakers say they have been targeted by intimidation tactics, including death threats, from allies of Jim Jordan as his bid for the US House of Representatives speakership falters. Several Republicans told reporters they had been subject to a pressure campaign by supporters of Mr Jordan, who lost a second vote for the gavel on Wednesday. Mr Jordan, a right-wing Republican from Ohio, disavowed the harassment. A hardline conservative revolt ousted the last Speaker on 3 October.

Biden clinches deal with Egypt to allow aid

HiIndia Newsdesk

US President Joe Biden has secured a deal with Egypt to deliver limited aid to Gaza to ease a humanitarian crisis amid the Israel-Hamas war. Visiting Tel Aviv, Mr Biden said Israel had a right to hit back for the Hamas attack that triggered the fighting. The US president said Israel had been "badly victimised", though he cautioned against being "consumed" by rage.He also backed Israel's account that a blast at a Gaza hospital on Tuesday was not caused by an Israeli air strike.

Googlers in Israel are still sheltering in safe rooms,” he wrote in a statement. He also noted that “googlers” have been impacted by the rising “Islamophobia.” “Our Palestinian, Arab and Muslim Googlers are deeply affected by a concerning rise in Islamophobia, and are watching with dread as Palestinian civilians in Gaza have suffered significant loss and fear for their lives amid the escalating war and humanitarian crisis. No words can erase this pain,” he said. Mr Pichai stated that Google was working hard to remove violent, hateful, or terrorist content and tackle disinformation.

Sundar Pichai also said that Google would provide $8 million in grants to nonprofits

Mr Pichai stated that Google was working hard to remove violent, hateful, or terrorist content and tackle disinformation

He also mentioned that the company recently pledged to fight antisemitism. He said, “Our Jewish Googlers around the world are reeling from these attacks — which bring painful reminders of the worst moments in history — and

are experiencing a rise in antisemitic incidents that call for increased security at synagogues and schools.” Mr Pichai also said that Google would provide $8 million in grants to nonprofits aimed at offering relief to civilians affected in Israel and Gaza. “I wanted to let you know that today we're announcing $8 million in grants to nonprofits who are providing relief to civilians affected in Israel and Gaza,” Mr Pichai wrote. “Our Tel Aviv and Haifa offices have shelters and remain open to Googlers who need them. US mortgage rates have hit Beijing unhappy at latest wave of a two decade high of 8% US restrictions Americans hoping to borrow money to buy a house or apartment are facing mortgage rates at the highest levels in more than 20 years

HiIndia Newsdesk

The average interest rate on the typical 30-year, fixed rate home loan rose to 8% for the first time since 2000, according to Mortgage News Daily, which tracks rates. The US central bank, the Federal Reserve, has been raising interest rates to try to bring down inflation. That has pushed up borrowing costs. Rates are up by nearly half a percentage point in just the last two weeks. The last two years has seen a ratcheting up of interest rates, the most common strategy from central banks to curb how fast prices rise. But in recent weeks, mortgage rates

have also been affected by big swings in demand for US government debt, which is sold to investors in the form of US Treasuries. Political chaos in Washington and rising US debt levels raised doubts about investors' ongoing appetite for buying US debt. That prompted prices of Treasuries to fall, boosting yields - moves that have hit mortgage rates as well. Matthew Graham of Mortgage News Daily said markets were "increasingly willing to react" to events that were likely to have implications for government borrowing. He said that the latest jump in mortgage rates may have been sparked by President Joe Biden's speech in Israel calling for "big spending on overseas war efforts".

The company already offers drone deliveries in two US states for goods weighing no more than 5lbs (2.2kg). The aviation regulator said "exploring" how drones could be safely used in more of the UK's airspace was "key". Amazon said it was working closely with the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) to meet regulations, while the government said the move would help it understand "how to best use the new technology safely and securely". David Carbon, vice president of Amazon Prime Air, said he believed there was demand for the technology in the UK and that it was "absolutely safe".

China has hit back at the Biden administration's decision to impose new restrictions on advanced chip exports The foreign ministry said the curbs "violate the principles of the market economy and fair competition". The measures target chipmaking tools as well as advanced chips, including two from market leader Nvidia. The move is being seen as an attempt to close loopholes that became apparent after an initial wave of chip controls last October. America said the measures were designed to prevent China from receiving cutting-edge technologies that it could use to strengthen its military, especially in the field of artificial intelligence (AI). The Biden administration has denied it was trying to hurt China economically, but Beijing's foreign ministry branded the move "forced de-coupling for political purposes". Chinese stock markets which feature chip-related companies have seen modest falls since the announcement. The CSI Semiconductor Index dropped 1.4% on Wednesday, while the STAR Chip Index lost 1.2%.

Hospital blast in Gaza City kills hundreds health officials

Biden Reaches Israel Amid Anger, Blame Game Over Gaza Hospital Bombing While the Israeli army pinned the blame on a “misfired rocket” by Palestine’s Islamic Jihad group, the Hamasrun Gaza health ministry says Israel was behind the bombing of the Al-Ahli Arabi Baptist hospital.

Hundreds of people have been killed by an explosion at a crowded hospital in Gaza City, health officials say. One doctor condemned what he called “a massacre” at Al-Ahli Arab Hospital, while another spoke of a scene of total devastation. Palestinian officials say the blast was caused by an Israeli air strike. But the Israeli military say it was the result of a failed rocket launch by Palestinian Islamic Jihad - an accusation the militant group rejected. Israeli warplanes and artillery have been bombarding Gaza in response to an unprecedented attack on Israel on 7 October by the main Palestinian militant group, Hamas, which killed 1,300 people. More than 3,000 people have been reported killed by strikes on Gaza.

New Delhi: An explosion at a hospital in Gaza killed at least 500 people on Tuesday, Reuters said quoting the Hamas-run health ministry sources, sparking outrage. Local authorities blamed Israeli airstrikes, while Israel alleged it was Hamas rockets misfiring. In a show of solidarity with Israel following last week’s Hamas attacks, US President Joe Biden arrived in Tel Aviv today. The visit comes in the wake of a tragic incident where a failed rocket launch hit the Al-Ahli Arab National Hospital in Gaza, resulting in a substantial loss of life. The Israeli army stated that intelligence from multiple sources pointed to Islamic Jihad’s responsibility for the hospital strike. However, their claim was met with a strong denial from the Islamic Jihad, an ally of Hamas, who accused Israel of fabricating lies. President Biden expressed outrage over the hospital explosion, emphasizing

Regional outrage has grown, with protests outside the UK and France embassies in Iran’s Tehran. Iran’s President Ebrahim Raisi blamed Israel and the US, warning of consequences. Meanwhile, the Gaza Strip faces a dire humanitarian situation, with over a million people fleeing to the south. The UN has called for a humanitarian

truce to enable the delivery of essential supplies to the besieged area. The World Health Organisation (WHO) termed the hospital strike as “unprecedented,” highlighting that numerous healthcare facilities have been attacked in Gaza, leaving most hospitals non-operational. In the West Bank, clashes erupted between Palestinian security forces and protesters in Ramallah, demonstrating the mounting frustration among the Palestinian population. The situation in the region remains highly volatile and is a matter of deep concern for the international community.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has expressed deep shock and offered condolences to the families of the victims of the recent hospital strike in Gaza, which claimed the lives of approximately 500 people. PM Modi, who was among the first world leaders to label the October 7 Hamas attack on Israel as a terrorist act, also raised

concerns about civilian casualties in the ongoing conflict between Israel and Palestine. In a social media post, he stated, “Deeply shocked at the tragic loss of lives at the Al Ahli Hospital in Gaza. Our heartfelt condolences to the families of the victims, and prayers for the speedy recovery of those injured. Civilian casualties in the ongoing conflict are a matter of serious and continuing concern. Those involved should be held responsible.” The hospital strike has led to a heated dispute between Israel and Palestine over responsibility for the incident, but PM Modi’s statement underscores the need for accountability in the face of tragic loss of life.

More than half of Canadians want Ottawa to decrease tensions with Delhi over Nijjar's killing HiIndia Newsdesk

Toronto: (IANS) A little over 50 per cent of Canadians want their country to decrease tensions with India over Khalistani hardliner Hardeep Singh Nijjar's killing, and engage in diplomatic talks, according to a poll. A Nanos Research poll commissioned by CTV News revealed that a substantial 57 per cent of Canadians would prefer the country decrease tensions and engage in diplomatic talks about the murder, which occurred outside a gurdwara in Surrey, British Columbia, on June 18. The relations between the two nations soured after Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau accused India of playing

a role in Nijjar's killing last month, leading to expulsion of diplomats and New Delhi calling the charges "absurd". About one in four respondents said they want Canada to further investigate the accusations, and one in 10 (11 per cent) said they want Canada to "be patient" and do nothing for now. Residents in Quebec province were more

likely to say they want Canada to engage in tension-reducing measures (65 per cent) than in British Columbia, where 50.3 per cent chose diplomatic talks. Three quarters of Canadians said they believe (47 per cent), or somewhat believe (27 per cent), Trudeau’s statement that he obtained intelligence that implicates India in Nijjar's killing. Nearly one in five said they do not (10 per cent) or somewhat do not believe (eight per cent) Prime Minister Trudeau, said the survey, which sampled 1,058 Canadians. Seventy-nine per cent of respondents above 55 years of age were more likely to believe or somewhat believe Prime Minister Trudeau’s statement

than younger Canadians (69 per cent) between 18-34 years age group. A Financial Times report said that Canadian Foreign Minister Melanie Joly held a secret meeting with Minister of External Affairs S Jaishankar in Washington last month to solve the diplomatic row. Joly on Wednesday said diplomacy is always better when conversations remain private, underscoring that she will continue to take the same approach when it comes to India. "Everyone In Karnataka Should Learn To Speak Kannada": Siddaramaiah HiIndia Newsdesk

Bengaluru: Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah insisted on creating an environment where Kannada is spoken everywhere in the state, making the local language "indispensable". On Tuesday, he launched the logo of the Karnataka Sambhrama-50 organised by the Department of Kannada and Culture at the Vidhana Soudha on the occasion of the 50th year of renaming Mysuru State as Karnataka. The Chief Minister congratulated Raviraj G Hulaguru, who designed the logo. "We are all Kannadigas. People speaking different languages

have settled in this Kannada land since the unification of Karnataka. Everyone living in this state should learn to speak Kannada," Siddaramaiah said. "While it is impossible to exist in states like Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana and Uttar Pradesh without learning the local

language, you can survive in Karnataka even if you don't speak Kannada," Siddaramaiah said, highlighting the difference between Karnataka and other states. Kannada couldn't create that strong atmosphere even after 68 years of Karnataka's unification, the Chief Minister said. "Instead of Kannadigas teaching our language to others, we are learning their language first," he said. When it comes to the development of language and culture, Karnataka has not worked that far, Sidddaramaiah said, adding in some parts of the state, the diaspora does not speak Kannada at all.

US, Korea raise concerns on India's decision to impose import restrictions on laptops, computers HiIndia Newsdesk

(including tablet computers), micro computers, large or mainf rame computers, and certain data processing machines with a view to boost domestic manufacturing and cut imports from countries like China. The regime would come into effect from November 1. However, Commerce Secretary Sunil Barthwal last week said that India will not impose licensing requirement on imports but will only monitor their inbound shipments. The official said that Korea stressed that the proposed measures by India seem inconsistent with WTO rules and could consequently create unnecessary trade barriers.

The US, China, Korea and Chinese Taipei have raised concerns on India's decision to impose import restrictions on laptops, and computers, in a meeting of the World Trade Organisation (WTO), an official said. The concern was flagged in the meeting of WTO's Committee on Market Access. It was chaired by Renata Crisaldo of Paraguay on October 16, in Geneva. The US has stated that the decision will have an impact on trade of these products, including US exports to India, once they are implemented, the Genevabased official said.

America has also said that the decision is creating uncertainty for exporters and downstream users. On August 3, India imposed import restrictions on a host of IT hardware products as laptops, personal computers

US-China chip war: Nvidia hit as China cut off from more advanced chips

HiIndia Newsdesk

HiIndia Newsdesk

Mumbai: (IANS) The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has approved the proposal of Infrastructure Development Finance Company (IDFC) to merge with its banking arm IDFC First Bank. "The CCI vide its letter dated October 17, 2023 has communicated that it has considered and approved the combination under Green Channel Route," IDFC said in a regulatory filing with the stock exchange.

T h e Bi d e n a d m i n i s t r at i on h a s announced new restrictions on exports of advanced chips to China, including two made-for-China chips from Nvidia. US chip stocks fell as the curbs also hit Advanced Micro Devices and Intel. The curbs are aimed at closing loopholes that became apparent after the US announced export curbs on chips last October. They are designed to prevent China's military from importing advanced semiconductors or equipment. Nvidia has said in a filing that the new export restrictions will block sales of two high-end artificial intelligence chips it created for the Chinese market - A800

and H800. It said that one of its gaming chips will also be blocked. Although the curbs also affect other chip makers, analysts believe Nvidia will be hit the hardest because China accounts for up to 25% of its revenues from data centre chip sales. Nvidia's shares, which are considered a star stock, fell by as much as 4.7% in the wake of the announcement. The Semiconductor Industr y Association, which represents 99% of the US semiconductor industry by revenue, said in a statement that the new measures are "overly broad" and "risk harming the US semiconductor ecosystem without advancing national security as they encourage overseas customers to look elsewhere". A spokesperson for the Chinese embassy also said that it "firmly opposes" the new restrictions, which also target Iran and Russia and go into effect in 30 days. Two months ago, China retaliated by srestricting exports of two materials, gallium and germanium, which are key to the semiconductor industry.

X begins charging new users $1 a year in New Zealand, Philippines HiIndia Newsdesk

Elon Musk's X, formerly known as Twitter, has started charging new users in New Zealand and the Philippines $1 (£0.82) a year to access key features, as part of a new trial. They include the ability to tweet, retweet, like posts and reply to posts. Those who opt out of the subscription fee will only be able to read posts, watch videos and follow accounts. The social media platform said that the aim is to "reduce spam, manipulation of our platform and bot activity". New accounts will also be required to verify their phone number, though Mr Musk has said that it will still be free to create "read only" accounts, which do not have key features. . Last month, the boss of X, Tesla and SpaceX suggested that all X users may have to pay for access. Since Mr Musk bought Twitter for

$44bn last year, it has seen a continuous revenue decline. While there is a clear financial interest for the company to charge users, the controversial billionaire has said that getting people to pay for the service is aimed at tackling bots. He has previously said that a bot costs "a fraction of a penny" to make. "But if somebody even has to pay a few dollars or something, some minor amount, the effective cost to bots is very high".

Paid subscribers of an enhanced service, called X Premium, now pay for more features like longer posts and increased visibility on the platform. X Premium currently costs $8 a month in the US. The price differs depending on which country a subscriber resides in, while other users can still use X for free. One risk of putting X behind a paywall is that the platform may lose a large chunk of its users. That in turn, could drive down advertising revenue, which currently accounts for the vast majority of the company's income. In recent weeks, the company has been investigated by the European Union for the possible spread of terrorist and violent content and hate speech, after Hamas's attack on Israel. It has also been fined by Australia's internet safety watchdog for failing to cooperate with a probe into anti-child abuse practices.

Apple boss Tim Cook makes surprise China visit

HiIndia Newsdesk

Apple chief executive Tim Cook has made a surprise visit to China. Though in an upbeat mood as he met gamers in the city of Chengdu, the company faces flagging iPhone demand in the country, analysts suggest. It is his second trip to China this year - in March he said Apple had a "symbiotic" relationship with China, a key manufacturing base. But the firm's operations in the country have been complicated by Covid and US-China tensions. Mr Cook's visit included a trip to Apple's Taikoo Li store to meet young players of Tencent's Honour of Kings online battle game. "The energy tonight was off the charts!" he wrote on the Chinese social media platform Weibo. Honour of Kings started in Chengdu but was now "a global phenomenon on the App Store", he told the staterun China Daily newspaper. He hoped that Chinese developers could repeat this success with software for Apple's new Vision Pro augmented reality headset, which would also use a Chinese manufacturer, the report said. Mr Cook, who has been CEO since 2011, is regarded as the architect of Apple's embrace of Chinese manufacturing, but the relationship has had its ups and downs in recent years.

CHICAGO, IL- Cook County property owners who don’t want to wait for their property tax bills to arrive in the mail now have the option to view, download, and pay their Second Installment bill for the 2022 Tax Year online at cookcountytreasurer.com, as announced by Treasurer Maria Pappas today. IACFNJ Hosts Vibrant Navratri Garba Celebration In New Jersey

HiIndia Newsdesk

New York: (IANS) The Sikh mayor of a city in the US state of New Jersey has said that he has received a series of hatefilled letters via email threatening to kill him and his family if he doesn't resign, a media report said. Ravi Bhalla, who became the first Sikh to be elected as the Mayor of Hoboken City in November 2017, told CBS News on Tuesday that the first letter, which was sent more than a year ago, called on him to resign. While the second letter threatened his life, it was the third letter, which came soon after the second, that shook Bhalla and his family. "This is your last warning. If you don't resign immediately, we will kill you, we'll kill your wife, we'll kill your children," the contents of the third letter read. Another letter read, "it's time to kill you", the news report said, adding that the rest of the content was too disturbing to share. "There was a lot of angst, anger, a lot of hate, combined with actual threats upon my life and the life of my children and my wife," Bhalla, living in Hoboken since 22 years, said. The law enforcement agencies have provided Bhalla with 24-hour security, including for his two children, aged 15 and 11, at school. Born and raised in New Jersey, Bhalla told CBS News that during the same time, his neighbours, his brother and a few city colleagues also began receiving packages with sexually-explicit and threatening materials. While the person responsible for those was caught and charged, the person behind the threatening letters is still at large, acording to Bhalla. Asserting that hate is not welcome in the city, Bhalla said he will stand strong

against hate and is "very proud to lead the city as an American of Sikh background". Being aware of the backlash SikhAmericans endured after 9/11, Bhalla said that "there still is a strain of extremism in America, and it's just unfortunate to see that small strain is somewhere in Hoboken, as well". And I think that's what needs to be called out and that's what people need to know about so that we can eventually put an end to it through education and through love," he said. Bhalla's remarks came as a 19-year-old Sikh was punched multiple times in a racially-motivated attack and attempt was made to remove his turban onboard a bus in New York City last week. According to a new FBI data released on Monday, Sikhs still remain the second most targeted group under religiously motivated hate crime incidents with

198 cases of anti-Sikh hate crime victimisations recorded in 2022. Bhalla first set his roots in Hoboken at the age of 26, “a bachelor fresh out of law school starting his first job at a small law firm in Newark, New Jersey", according to his website profile. He specialised as a civil rights lawyer, earning national recognition from The New York Times for his legal advocacy after suffering a violation of his own constitutional and civil rights during a jail visit to a client. The incident motivated Bhalla to lead a successful campaign to reform the federal government’s visitation policies at correctional facilities nationwide. He served for eight years on the Hoboken City Council before becoming the mayor, and is now contemplating running against first-term Congressman Rob Menendez from New Jersey’s 8th district.

The company “sought to avoid deterring patients from purchasing its drugs and services by engaging in a scheme, orchestrated and implemented by Gadde and others, to routinely waive these large copays, without regard for whether the patients were experiencing financial hardship.”

Manish Kunwar HiIndia Newsdesk

27-year-old Nepali man, Manish Kunwar was found dead in Rikers Island jail under mysterious circumstances. Kunwar was found unresponsive and was declared dead. While a city medical examiner will be examining the cause of death, the family and friends of Kunwar are finding his sudden death mysterious. Kunway came to the U.S. from Nepal in 2016 on a diversity visa. He was arraigned late last month and was in custody at Rikers just for seven days before he was found dead. Kunwar was extradited from Delaware and was facing two bail-jumping charges for robbery and grand larceny. Before this, he had also spent five months in a psychiatric facility in Baltimore. There are also reports that he was homeless and mentally ill. The Legal Aid Society said: “If our client had access to the services he needed and stable housing, today’s tragedy could have been avoided. The carceral system is no place for people struggling with mental or substance abuse issues, and all criminal legal system stakeholders must pursue alternatives that prioritize community-based resources over the confines of a cage.”

The Securities and Exchange Commission has obtained a temporary restraining order, asset freeze, and other emergency relief to halt an ongoing fraud of a whopping sum of $130 million targeting the Indian American community. It has been found that the fraud is allegedly conducted by Nanban Ventures LLC, and its three founders namely -- Gopala Krishnan, Manivannan Shanmugam, and Sakthivel Palani Gounder. Easy breakfast ideas to fuel up your day

E

vidence based studies have shown the health benefits of eating breakfast. It improves the energy levels and ability to concentrate in short term, and can help with better weight management, reduced risk of many diseases like type 2 diabetes and heart disease in long term. Despite the health and wellbeing benefits of breakfast, many people often skip it, for many reasons. Skipping breakfast may seem like a good way to reduce overall energy intake. But research showed that even with a higher intake of energy, breakfast eaters tend to be more physically active in the morning than those who don’t eat until later in the day. The good news is there are plenty of ways to make it easier to fit breakfast into our day.

Can’t face food in the morning?

Some people find they just can’t tolerate food first thing in the morning either because they have their last meal of the day quite late at night or they don’t find typical breakfast foods appealing, or because food first thing in the morning turns their stomach. To make it easier, we should try to reduce the size of the meals in the evening and eat them earlier, so we are hungry in the morning. Investigating some new recipes and stocking our cupboards with some different types of foods to increase our breakfast appetite. Stopping switching our breakfast to morning tea or mid-morning snack time.

Breakfast ideas for meat eaters

Balanced breakfast using foods from three different food groups (Proteins, Fibers, Fat). It can be a slice of whole wheat toast with peanut butter and a glass of milk, or yogurt with fruit and granola, or an egg scrambled with leftover veggies and cheese. Keep it simple! A banana, yogurt and oat are an easy way to get nutrients, and they can be packed the night before if time is a challenge. Peanut butter and banana sandwich is another simple low-cost meal that can be prepared in minutes. Breakfast doesn’t have to be complicated. Sliced turkey is low in fat, low in calories, and high in protein. This makes it an ideal option for anyone attempting to increase muscle growth while limiting calories. Turkey bacon

is also a good and lean substitute for traditional bacon. It can be eaten along with vegetables, whole wheat bread and avocado. Salmon, for healthy fat. It is high in omega-3 fatty acids, packed with protein, source of B vitamins, filled with selenium, and may reduce the risk of heart disease. Eat salmon with sliced avocado, lemon juice, onions, and asparagus in whole wheat bread.

Breakfast ideas for vegetarians

Greek yogurt along with berries and nuts is very popular nowadays. You can add any of the nuts that you like; walnuts, almonds, cashews, chia seeds, or flax seeds. Fresh berries, raspberries, blueberries, strawberries, or blackberries can also be added. A high antioxidant green smoothie from mainly spinach, almond or cashew milk, and berries can be an option. Some seeds can be added such as chia seeds or flax seeds. Ice cubes will be a good component to become a fresher. Oatmeal is rich in fibers, brings down the glycemic index, and satisfies our craving for carbs. Add milk or yogurt, berries, nuts, and fresh fruits for flavour. Cinnamon powder can be also added to give it a distinct flavour and enhance the taste as well as benefiting from its high antioxidants’ constitution, its protection against diseases, ageing and inflammation. Almond butter, banana, yogurt and cinnamon powder is also a healthy option; It provides the body with amounts of fibers, potassium, carbs, and Vitamin B6, which acts as a stress buster. Cinnamon adds to the sweetness and maintains blood sugar level.

Breakfast ideas for vegans

A vean breakfast contains all the same nutrients you would find in a dairy, or meat-based breakfast. Think whole foods! Avocados and nuts are good sources of healthy fats. Whole grains are great for fibers and slow-release energy. Beans and tofu are excellent sources of protein. Walnuts and flaxseed are perfect additions for omega 3. Oats with nuts and fruits, vegan pancakes with soy yoghurt, banana and berries; and scrambled tofu on whole grain toast are healthy options. Mango and greens (spinach or kale) smoothie is great especially for post workout refuelling. Adding coconut water must be very energizing, as well as some healthy fats like avocado, nuts, almond or peanut butter.

Why diabetics maybe twice at risk of death from heart disease

Women prefer muscular men for flings, humour for marriage

omen prefer physical strength -- upper-body strength, specifically -in short-term contexts, according to a study. The findings, published in Personal Relationships, showed that affiliative, or benevolent, humour is a more attractive trait for success at long-term relationships "Our data indicate that strength and humour are independent in their influence on women's preferences, though we continue to show that women prioritise men's strength in short-term relationships and affiliative humour in long-term contexts," said Mitch Brown, psychology instructor in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas in the US. “These data provide evidence for how women navigate mating markets through various fitness cues.” The research focuses on the use of evolutionar y perspectives in understanding motives that shape social perceptions and interpersonal preferences. It shows how people prioritise physical features and behaviours in determining preferences for short-term and long-term mates. For the study, sampled the preferences of 394 women, identifying as either heterosexual or bisexual, at a large public university. With a mean age of 19 years, 251 participants identified as single and 143 as partnered. Historically, reproductive success has

The ideal has been to select a mate who is both physically attractive and possesses positive behavioural attributes. However, the improbability of finding this mate has necessitated prioritisation of one set of traits over another been dependent on the identification of a mate with physical and psychological traits that satisfy relevant reproductive goals. The ideal has been to select a mate who is both physically attractive and possesses positive behavioural attributes. However, the improbability of finding this mate has necessitated prioritisation of one set of traits over another. The researchers sought to determine how women evaluate the desirability of strong men employing affiliative and aggressive humour across short-term and long-term contexts. Affiliative humour was defined as

benevolent, a type of humour that attempts to connect or associate rather than offend or alienate. This latter type of humour, aggressive, was emphatically undesirable for women in long-term contexts. The researchers found no interactive effects between physical strength and humour. In other words, strength and humour operated independently in their influence on women's preferences. Overall, Brown said, their results indicated that women’s choices in a male partner are varied and “frequently involve evaluating the costs and benefits of various constellations of traits.”

Low muscle mass is associated with a two-fold risk of death from cardiovascular disease in individuals with diabetes, finds a study. The study showed that the association is independent of frailty, glycaemic control and the microvascular complications retinopathy (damage to the blood vessels of the retina) and nephropathy (kidney disease). Sarcopenia -- age-related loss of muscle mass and strength -- was known to be associated with cardiovascular disease (CVD) and mortality in individuals with diabetes. However, it wasn’t clear to what extent the relationship was being influenced by their blood sugar control or by complications of their diabetes. The research presented at the recent Annual Meeting of the European Association for the Study of Diabetes (EASD) showed that people with low muscle mass were 44 per cent more likely to die of any cause during follow-up than those with normal muscle mass. They were also twice as likely to die from CVD as those with normal muscle mass. Further analysis showed that low muscle mass was linked with all-cause mortality and CVD mortality, irrespective of HbA1c (a measure of blood sugar control) and microvascular complications. “Our results suggest that the increased risk of death in individuals with diabetes who have low muscle mass isn’t mediated or influenced by frailty, poor blood sugar control or microvascular complications but due to the loss of muscle itself," Dr Jae Myung Yu and Dr Shinje Moon, from the Hallym University, in Seoul, Republic of South Korea. They pressed the need for more research to determine just how sarcopenia increases the risk of death.
