US Imposes Sanctions on Russian Ally Belarus

San Francisco: (IANS) Elon Musk's Twitter faced a $350,000 fine earlier this year for refusing to comply with a search warrant concerning former US President Donald Trump's account on the micro-blogging platform. The information was revealed by the new court documents unsealed on Wednesday, reports The Verge. The warrant was issued as part of a Department of Justice special investigation.

In January, as part of his inquiry into

Trump's role in interfering with the orderly transition of power following the 2020 election, special counsel Jack Smith obtained a search warrant for the former President's Twitter account, @ realDonaldTrump.

According to the unsealed opinion, Twitter, now known as X, objected on February 1 to providing the material requested in the warrant, claiming that its accompanying nondisclosure order was unlawful under the First Amendment, which guarantees freedoms concerning religion, expression, assembly, and the right to petition.

The deaths were reported by four survivors of the tragedy who were brought to the southern Italian island of Lampedusa on Wednesday, reports Xinhua news agency.

US Warned Pak Of Isolation If Imran Khan Wasn't Removed: Report

Washington DC: The US State Department in a meeting on March 7, 2022 encouraged the Pakistani government to remove Imran Khan as the country's Prime Minister over his neutrality in the conflict between Russia and Ukraine, US-based news outlet The Intercept reported citing a classified Pakistani government document. The meeting between the Pakistani ambassador to the US and two US State Department officials has been a matter of intense scrutiny, controversy, and speculation in Pakistan over the past year and a half, as the former Pakistan PM and his military and civilian opponents struggled for power. The political struggle further escalated on August 5 when Khan was sentenced to three years in prison on corruption

The decision announced by the court also blocks Khan from contesting polls expected in Pakistan later this year. One month after the meeting with US officials was revealed in the Pakistan government's document, a noconfidence vote was held in Parliament, resulting in Khan's ouster from power. The vote in the Pakistani parliament was believed to have the support of Pakistan's army.

The vote is believed to have been organised with the backing of Pakistan's powerful military. Since his ouster, Khan and his supporters have been involved in a struggle with the army and its civilian allies, whom the former Pakistan PM engineered his removal from power at the request of the US.

Unveiling the bi-monthly monetary policy, Reserve Bank Governor Shaktikanta Das said under the framework, to be put in place shortly, the lenders will have to clearly communicate with the borrowers about tenor and EMI.

New Delhi: The United Progressive Alliance (UPA) has wasted a decade, said Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman as she tore into the Opposition front while replying to the no-confidence motion in the parliament.

Her criticism of the UPA, the Opposition front which was in power during 2004-2014 and is now known by the acronym ‘INDIA’, was followed by a report card of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government.

Mumbai: The Reserve Bank today said it will come out with a framework allowing borrowers to switch to fixed interest rate from floating interest rate, a move that would provide relief to borrowers of home, auto and other loans reeling under the impact of high interest rate.

Unveiling the bi-monthly monetary policy, Reserve Bank Governor Shaktikanta Das said under the framework, to be put in place shortly, the lenders will have to clearly

Rejani Raveendran has declared her candidacy for the US Senate from Wisconsin, becoming the first Republican to challenge Democratic Senator Tammy Baldwin. Raveendran, chair of the University of WisconsinStevens Point College Republicans, launched her campaign with a focus on new ideas and change in the political system. An immigrant from India, she aims to secure borders, combat drug issues, oppose illegal immigration, and advocate for “medical freedom,” expressing skepticism about vaccine mandates. Raveendran, a mother of three, highlighted her concern over adverse vaccine reactions and her commitment to preserving children’s innocence against the “woke agenda.” She previously supported Donald Trump and plans to graduate in political science next year. Other potential Republican contenders include Eric Hovde, Scott Mayer, and David Clarke.

The Bill appears to dilute the Supreme Court’s March 2023 judgment in which a Constitution bench said Chief Election Commissioners and Election Commissioners must be appointed on the advice of a panel comprising the Prime Minister, Leader of Opposition and the Chief Justice of India.

Pakistan National Assembly Dissolved: What’s Next For Crisis-Hit Country

New Delhi: Amid political turmoil and an ongoing economic crisis, Pakistan dissolved its parliament late last evening on the recommendation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, setting the stage for a general election. The dissolution has paved the way for a caretaker government to oversee elections in which former prime minister Imran Khan will be unable to participate. Khan was jailed over the weekend after being convicted of corruption in one of the several cases filed against him since his removal from office in April 2022.

The Pakistani president has given the outgoing government three days to appoint a new interim prime minister and 90 days to hold general elections. However, the outgoing government has warned that the elections may be delayed until next year. According to reports, the Pakistani government is considering postponing the elections, as it struggles to stymie security and political challenges that threaten to destabilise an already cashstrapped country.

Washington: (IANS) Two prominent Indian-American lawmakers, Ro Khanna and Shri Thanedar will travel to India with a bipartisan congressional delegation and attend Prime Minister Narendra Modi's Red Fort address on Independence Day.

Khanna is leading the delegation with Congressman Michael Waltz -- both co-chairs of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian-Americans.

"As co-chairs of the Congressional Caucus on India and Indian-Americans, we are proud to lead a bipartisan delegation to India. We will be there to discuss how to strengthen economic and defence ties between our two counties, the oldest and largest democracies," Khanna said in a media statement.

"Both of us believe that the US-India relationship will be a defining one of the 21st century. India is a key partner in ensuring multipolarity in Asia and the denial of China as a hegemon," he said. They will meet business, tech, government leaders, and prominent media personalities in Mumbai, Hyderabad and New Delhi, and visit

Raj Ghat.

The delegation also includes Deborah Ross, Kat Cammack and Jasmine Crockett, along with Rich McCormick and Ed Case.

For Khanna, the visit is history coming full circle. His grandfather Amarnath Vidyalankar was an Indian freedom fighter who spent four years in jail alongside Mahatma Gandhi and later was part of India’s first Parliament, the media statement issued on Monday, said.

Rahul Gandhi launched a scathing attack on the Prime Minister over the ongoing unrest in Manipur which has claimed over a hundred lives.

New Delhi: The BJP has murdered India in Manipur, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said in Lok Sabha today during the debate on the no-confidence motion against Narendra Modi government. The remark sparked a huge uproar in the House, with senior ministers demanding Mr Gandhi’s apology for making the remark.

Manipur. The Prime Minister has not gone to Manipur because he doesn’t consider it a part of India. You (BJP) have divided Manipur,” Mr Gandhi said, amid loud protests from the treasury benches.

Bengaluru: Vikram, the lander of India’s third lunar mission Chandrayaan-3, will be able to make a soft-landing on the Moon’s surface on August 23 even if all the sensors and two of its engines do not work, ISRO chairman S Somanath said on Tuesday. The entire design of the lander ‘Vikram’ has been made in a manner that makes sure that it would be able to handle failures, Mr Somanath said during a talk on ‘Chandrayaan-3: Bharat’s Pride Space Mission’, hosted by the nonprofit organisation Disha Bharat. “If everything fails, if all the sensors fail, nothing works, still it (Vikram) will make a landing. That’s how it has been designed -- provided that the propulsion system works well,” Mr Somanath said.

Chandrayaan-3 blasted into Space on July 14 and it entered into lunar orbit on August 5. There will be three more de-orbiting manoeuvres -- exercises to bring it closer to the Moon so that Vikram lands on the Moon’s surface on August 23.

Tesla’s New CFO, Vaibhav Taneja

Tesla Inc. has a long history of promoting talent from within. Outside hires don’t last for very long in the carmaker’s scrappy, hardcharging culture, and it takes a certain stamina to work for Elon Musk. Tesla’s new chief financial officer, Vaibhav Taneja, already has a hefty gig serving as the company’s chief accounting officer. Tesla watchers were surprised to hear Monday that he was replacing Zach Kirkhorn, a 13-year Tesla veteran who abruptly stepped down from the CFO post.

Earlier, in a scathing attack on Prime Minister Modi, Mr Gandhi questioned why he had not visited Manipur, where ongoing unrest has claimed over a 100 lives in the past two months.

New Delhi: BJP’s Smriti Irani launched a scathing attack at Congress leader Rahul Gandhi during the debate on the no-confidence motion against the BJPled government brought by opposition alliance INDIA today.

Earlier, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi said that the BJP had murdered India in Manipur and is now trying to set Haryana on fire.

“Home Minister Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh have maintained since beginning of the monsoon session that the government is ready for discussion on Manipur. “They ran away from the

discussion, not us,” Smriti Irani said. “He (Rahul Gandhi) has gone to Rajasthan. Same place where a girl child was gangraped and burnt alive. They are not asking for justice for the woman in west Bengal who was gangraped. Rahul Gandhi says he wants Article 370 to be reinstated in J&K. I want to tell those who have left the House (Rahul Gandhi) that Article 370 will never be reinstated,” she said. “You are not India, for India is not corrupt. India believes in merit not in dynasty,” she said.

“A Kashmiri Pandit - Girija Tikku - was gangraped and brutally murdered in Kashmir. When this was shown in a movie, some Congress leaders called it propaganda. The same party leaders are talking about justice today,” she said.

Indian-origin doc in US fined for removing cyst instead of kidney

New York, Aug 9 (IANS) An Indianorigin urologist in the US state of Florida has been fined $7,236 and ordered to take a medical education course in risk management after he removed a cyst instead of a kidney during a surgery in 2021.

Zamip Patel, who was supposed to remove a patient’s right kidney on June 16, 2021, ended up removing “a significant mass, which was sent to pathology”, the Miami Herald reported. The pathology report, which came two days later, said Patel removed a

“hemorrhagic and inflamed cyst, not the intended kidney”, a complaint filed with Florida Department of Health said. The patient, who was not told about the blunder, showed up at Advent Health Orlando after two months complaining

of pain. A CT scan revealed he still had the right kidney, the complaint said.

Patel did not respond to an email sent to the address on his online Department of Health profile and declined to comment when a Miami Herald reporter called his office, shortly after the complaint was filed.

In addition to the $5,000 fine and $2,236 reimbursement of Florida Department of Health investigation and prosecution costs, Patel has been ordered to take a five-hour continuing medical education course in risk management.

Asense of crisis is spreading in the German economy as order books look thinner and consumer purchasing power dwindles amid rising inflation.

The country's car manufacturers are also facing headwinds but theirs are magnified by rising structural problems in the once-powerful industry. The transition to electric mobility and autonomous driving is causing higher costs, while the necessary funds, still coming mostly from sales of combustion engine vehicles, are increasingly uncertain, not to mention politically undesirable.

Company figures for the first half of 2023 were satisfying for the likes of Volkswagen, Mercedes Benz, and BMW. All of them reported increased revenues and higher profits. But their outlooks for the rest of the year have disappointed the expectations of investors and shareholders. Inflation and rising interest rates are having a dampening effect, and there is lower demand for new vehicles.

"Even if we see an increase in production, this is not a sign of easing," warned Hildegard Müller, president of the German Association of the Automotive Industry, noting that sales were still more than a fifth below pre-pandemic levels in 2019.

Orders are declining in Germany, especially for battery-powered vehicles, with demand plunging to only about 60% of volumes from the previous year.

China's booming market

China, the world's largest and most important automotive market, meanwhile is rapidly growing its sector for electric cars, extending its lead not only in new registrations but also in production. Currently, every second electric vehicle worldwide is driven in China.

Chinese manufacturers are also making rapid technological progress catching up fast with industry bellwether, Tesla. Chinese car buyers, from both the middle class as well as higher income brackets, are increasingly favoring domestic brands. China's biggest carmaker BYD sold 29% more purely electric cars than Tesla in the first half of this year, according to the latest

Chinese carmakers are outpacing German giants

High costs, lower demand, fiercer competition — the German automotive industry is coming under pressure. The lucrative Chinese market, in particular, is proving difficult as Chinese consumers choose national brands

figures from the China Passenger Car Association.

"A disruption is taking place in this market," Ralf Brandstätter, a board member of VW China, told reporters recently, as he was forced to admit that VW was outsold by BYD in the first quarter in China. BYD delivered almost twenty times more electric vehicles to customers in China than VW.

In order to catch the wave of China's rising automotive power, VW has announced a partnership with automaker Xpeng in the fields of electromobility, software and autonomous driving. The tie-up with the Chinese startup has a price tag of $700 million for VW and aims to bring two electric VW models to the Chinese market by 2026.

Mass market rot spreads into luxury segment

VW's high-end brands Porsche and Audi are also feeling mounting market pressure, as are Germany's two other luxury carmakers Mercedes-Benz and BMW.

Auto industry consulting firm Berylls claimed in a recent market study that the world is seeing a "change of guard in China" in the premium segment. In the competition with traditional luxury manufacturers from Germany, the Chinese are "overtaking on the fast lane," the study said.

For decades German carmakers dominated the Chinese market by using a trickle down strategy: They introduced technology they had developed as optional extras for consumers and continued selling it at a premium price, until their competitors caught up. "How out of step this product strategy

AlixPartners' automotive expert, told DW. European manufacturers are increasingly finding themselves defending market share at home. "The

is with the expectations of present-day Chinese car buyers, German OEMs [original equipment manufacturers] are currently getting a first taste of – with alarming implications for the future," Willy Wang, managing director of Berylls China, wrote.

"As China has moved to the forefront of consumer innovation, Chinese customers have neither the patience for technologies to trickle down the line nor the willingness to pay extra for the latest features," Wang wrote.

In the past, German luxury vehicles were considered ideal status symbols for the rising middle and upper classes in China. Domestic brands were reputed to be technologically backward and of little convincing quality.

Digital features are the trump card

But now Chinese produced vehicles are gaining popularity, especially due to digital features such as advanced

assistance and infotainment systems. This isn't surprising given the traffic situation on China's crowded roads. In terms of things like comfort and quality, they are perceived by customers to be nearly the same or even slightly better than established carmakers, according to the study.

"The German auto industry will likely not play the same dominant role in China's car sector as it did in the past 20 years," says Gregor Sebastian, a China expert from the Merics Institute. For Chinese customers, technology is replacing traditional qualities as a reason to make a purchase, he told DW.

No German manufacturer in top 10 Small wonder then that 80% of all battery-electric vehicles in China now come from domestic producers. Among the top ten sellers only Tesla ranks. German brands no longer play any role in the list.

Regarding the overall Chinese auto market, including vehicles with internal combustion engines, Chinese brands are set to outsell foreign brands this year for the first time, with a market share of 51%. This share is projected to rise to 65% by 2030, say management consultants, AlixPartners, in their Global Automotive Outlook report for 2023.

China is the export champion

Regarding Europe, the report predicts that car sales would remain about 15% below pre-pandemic levels. This was likely to be a long term prospect. European manufacturers would increasingly also be pressured by Chinese electric vehicle manufacturers in their home markets.

Unsurprisingly, in the first quarter of 2023, China replaced Japan as the world's automotive export champion. In 2020, it was still in sixth place. The Asian country is advancing as a sales market, as an exporter, and as a production location.

"China is on its way to becoming an automotive superpower," Fabian Piontek, AlixPartners' automotive expert, told DW. European manufacturers are increasingly finding themselves defending market share at home. "The era of record profits for German automakers is coming to an end," he concluded.

New Delhi: The language used by Rahul Gandhi in his “Modi surname” comment was exceptionally disrespectful, eminent jurist Harish Salve has said, adding that the Supreme Court’s decision to suspend the Congress leader’s conviction was driven not by the merits of the case but by concerns for his constituency. In a special interview with NDTV’s Editor-in-Chief Sanjay Pugalia, the former Solicitor General of India said Rahul Gandhi’s comments were not expected of a public figure in his position.

“Whether Rahul Gandhi should be convicted or not is a different issue. But the highly disrespectful manner of talking... you are making false accusations and then you say I am in public life...Everyone knows, however much he denies it, he dreams of becoming prime minister. Is this his stature to use this sort of language?” Harish Salve questioned.

New Delhi: The debate on the noconfidence motion against the BJP-led government brought by opposition alliance INDIA started amid loud sloganeering. Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi opened the debate, with heated exchanges between the opposition and treasury benches. Mr Gogoi said the opposition bloc INDIA was forced to bring the no-confidence motion against the government to break Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “vow of silence” on Manipur. He alleged that a government which talks about “one India has created two Manipurs -one living in the hills and the other in the valley”. “Manipur demands justice. Appearing on five television networks Sunday morning, a lawyer for former President Donald J. Trump argued that his actions in the effort to overturn the 2020 election fell short of crimes and were merely “aspirational”.

The remarks from his lawyer, John F. With his client facing charges carrying decades in prison after a federal grand jury indicted Trump for his role in trying to overturn the election, his third criminal

'Scam 2003: The Telgi Story' teaser: Bigger scam, edgier dialogues

After a stellar response to ‘Scam 1992: The Harshad Mehta Story’, the series is set to make a comeback with its new season, the teaser of which was unveiled on Friday. The teaser begins with the voice-over of Manoj Bajpayee as it harps back to the earlier season which told the story of Indian stock market scam of 1992 which amounted to Rs 5000 crore. For the second season, the story will follow the Rs 30, 000 crore scam pulled off by fruit seller Abdul Karim Telgi. Telgi was a convicted Indian counterfeiter, who started his counterfeiting career by making fake passports. He then started a business to export manpower to Saudi Arabia and opened a company. For the same, he used to create several fake documents that would facilitate labourers’ smooth passage at the airport even if their passport had an emigration check required stamp or other issues that could raise red flags for immigration officials. Telgi moved to more complex counterfeiting when he began to counterfeit stamp paper. He appointed 300 people as agents who sold the fakes to bulk purchasers, including banks, insurance companies, and stock brokerage firms. The teaser features a dialogue which has the potential to go viral on the memes, “Paisa kamaya nahi banaya jaata hai”. However, throughout the length of the teaser, the titular character's face hasn't been revealed.

Talking about the trend where original compositions often clash with recreations and remixes, Shreya told IANS: “I cannot see a lot of recreations happening off late. It was happening a lot 3-4 years ago. I was the same person who was upset with that, a few years ago. But now I don’t see that much happening.”

“People have also become quite bored because of the repetition of the same song. The moment you see the song is not good or not done well, people immediately reject it. The song has to ultimately be loved by the people. And artists are responding to the frustration of the audience, and there is I think a lot of original work that is happening,” said Shreya.

If she wants her songs to be recreated?

The 39-year-old singer said: “I don’t want any of my songs to be recreated, none of my songs. Even if it is asked to me to recreate I would probably say no. There are so many of my songs which I have very strong memories with. Those are sentimental.”

“I may have those certain sentiments, but other audience members may not have. But, I do have a personal memory

Shreya has recently teamed up with Alexandrian rapper and songwriter, Afroto for a new single ‘Sunn Beliya’, which is a part of the impressive Coke Studio 2023 lineup of releases. This unlikely combination brings together Shreya’s globally renowned vocals and phrasing, with Afroto’s boundarypushing sense of melody and beats. Talking about the same, she said, “the blend of two genres, and so many different kinds of musicians coming together, from rock, pop, classical everything happening at the same time. But I never thought that artists of two countries would collaborate this time, completely unexpected from a completely different sub-continent all together, that is new.”

Calling Afroto a wonderful team player, Shreya said he was a very interesting artist for me. “I was very happy to see his excitement, enthusiasm, and the communication which happened between the two of us, the two teams. It was seamless, felt so organic in every sense. Also I got to represent not just Hindi, which is my national language, but also Bangla, which is my mother language. I got to do two things in one song.”

“There was a very strong message in the song ‘Sunn Beliya’, about harmony, people. It’s almost like an anthem, a movement. So I feel it is a very positive, optimistic energy driving song. I can see people are already giving so much love for this,” she said.

Rahul Gandhi’s Lok Sabha membership restored

Lok Sabha membership of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was on Monday restored by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, three days after the Supreme Court stayed his conviction in a defamation case.

New Delhi, Aug 7 (IANS) Lok Sabha membership of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was on Monday restored by the Lok Sabha Secretariat, three days after the Supreme Court stayed his conviction in a defamation case.

In an order issued by the Lok Sabha secretariat on Monday, it was informed that in view of the Supreme Court order dated August 4, Gandhi’s disqualification, which was ordered on March 24 this

year, stands withdrawn. The Supreme Court on August 4 had stayed Gandhi’s conviction in a defamation case against him. A Surat court had earlier found him guilty and handed him the maximum sentence of two years’ imprisonment -- leading to his disqualification from the Lok Sabha. The Gujarat High Court had refused to stay the conviction, after which Gandhi had appealed in the Supreme Court.

With his Lok Sabha membership restored, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Monday changed his Twitter bio to ‘Member of Parliament’ from the earlier “Dis’Qualified MP” description.

Following his disqualification from the Lok Sabha in March, Gandhi had edited his bio on Twitter to “Dis’Qualified MP”.

His Twitter bio now describes him as a member of the Indian National Congress and Member of Parliament.

Suspected militants raided Ukha Tampak village near Kwakta in Bishnupur around 2 am and started firing indiscriminately, police sources said.

Two men, father and son, and another person at the adjoining house, were murdered by the attackers. They were unarmed villagers guarding their houses. The three were gunned down while they were sleeping and later slashed with swords, police said on Saturday morning, adding that the attackers came from Churachandpur. New Delhi: China’s growing maritime power is a cause for concern for regional security. Beijing’s claims to territory in the South China Sea, its construction of artificial islands in the region, and its establishment of a military base in Djibouti are all evidence of its desire to increase its sphere of influence. Last year, satellite images sourced by NDTV revealed that China’s naval base in Djibouti was fully operational.

The base, which is located in the Horn of Africa, is capable of supporting Chinese warships deployed in the Indian Ocean region. This was a significant development, as it marked the first time that China established a fully operational overseas military base. The base in Cambodia is located not far from the Strait of Malacca. The Strait of Malacca is a vital checkpoint that connects the Indian Ocean and the South China Sea. It is one of the busiest shipping lanes in the world, with an estimated 25% of global trade passing through it each year.

International Hindi Association’s 21st Biennial Convention In Indiana

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has introduced a significant modification to the receipts issuance for L-1 nonimmigrant intracompany transferees. The change simplifies the process, enhancing efficiency, organization, and security. Previously, petitioners filing Form I-129S alongside Form I-129 received a stamped and signed Form I-129S alongside the Form I-129 approval. Under the new approach, petitioners will receive two separate notifications: a receipt notice and an approval notice upon petition approval.

The approval notice will serve as both proof of beneficiary eligibility for L-1 status and an endorsement of Form I-129S, satisfying regulatory requirements. Beneficiaries can include this notice with their visa and/ or admission documents.

This alteration eliminates the need for paper forms to be printed, stamped, signed, and annotated, aiming to provide a streamlined and secure processing experience.

USCIS anticipates reduced processing times and improved satisfaction for both petitioners and beneficiaries with this updated procedure.

The Indiana chapter of the International Hindi Association (IHA) achieved a triumphant milestone with its 21st biennial Convention in Carmel, Indiana, from July 28-29, 2023. Florida Education Board Curbs AP Psychology Course Amid LGBTQ Content Concerns

Florida has effectively banned Advanced Placement (AP) Psychology classes due to concerns about LGBTQ-related content. The state's Department of Education cited the "Don't Say Gay" law, which restricts LGBTQ instruction, as the reason for the ban. The College Board, responsible for overseeing AP courses, expressed worry that this decision limits choices for parents and students and disrupts college readiness plans for many registered AP Psychology students. The College Board contends that excluding LGBTQ topics to offer the course compromises academic standards and censors the curriculum. They emphasized that discussions on sexual orientation and gender identity have

been integral to the course since its inception 30 years ago.

Criticism has arisen from various quarters, including the American Psychological Association, American Federation of Teachers, and LGBTQ advocates. They argue that excluding LGBTQ topics denies their existence and impedes students pursuing psychology and mental health professions.

Governor Ron DeSantis, known for his antiLGBTQ stance, signed the "Don't Say Gay" law, along with other measures targeting transgender rights. His presidential campaign video depicting anti-LGBTQ policies has drawn criticism for its content and portrayal of LGBTQ individuals.

Heath with Spaniard Carlota Ciganda and Italian Valentina Rossi and they will be out very early in the morning, while Diksha will play with Celine Borge and Gina Kim and they tee off from the first tee. Aditi will play her 27th Major and her best has been T-22 at the Women's Open in 2018, while Diksha has not made a cut in three starts at Majors. Aditi has won four times on the Ladies European Tour including the first win at the Women Indian Open back in 2016, while Diksha Dagar has won twice, once each in Women’s South African Open and Czech Ladies Open. This will be Aditi’s seven appearance at the Women’s Open and Diksha will be making her second start at the Women’s Open. South African Ashleigh Buhai will be back to defend the title as the event is staged at Walton Heath in Surrey. Following last year’s breakthrough victory for Buhai, she has gone on to have an incredible year winning the 2022 Women's Australian Open, the 2023 South African Women’s Open and the 2023 LPGA Classic.

Shaw Unconcerned with Selectors After Record 244

After breaking multiple List A records through a mammoth 244 for Northamptonshire in the One-Day Cup match against Somerset at the County Ground, India’s opening batter Prithvi Shaw insisted that he’s not thinking about what national selection committee back home will be thinking of his performances.

Shaw’s mammoth 244 came off just 153 balls, laced with 28 fours and 11 sixes as Northamptonshire put up a huge 415-8 and then emerged victorious by 87 runs. His knock is also the sixth-highest individual score in any List A match. Shaw had scores of 34 and 26 in his previous two occasions for Northamptonshire. On Wednesday, he reached his hundred in 81 deliveries before switching gears to reach his second ton in very quick time, off just 129 deliveries. "Definitely (an) experience for sure.

The 227 was in my head to be honest. I spoke to Whitey (Whiteman) when he was there and I told him it's 227, my highest score.

Not really thinking what the Indian selectors may be thinking, but I just want to have a good time here, have a good time with the players over here and the support staff. Northamptonshire have given me this opportunity... they're really looking after me. I'm really enjoying it," said Shaw after the game ended.

"The 227 was in my head to be honest. I spoke to Whitey (Whiteman) when he was there and I told him it's 227, my highest score. But it was a good team effort all around. I always try and win matches for the team and I'm the kind of a player who puts my team first and then myself. If scoring like this can help my team to win, then I should continue this," he concluded.

Former Indian wicketkeeper-batter

Parthiv Patel has commented on Sanju Samson's series of low scores during the ongoing tour of West Indies, and opined that his time may be running out if he continues to struggle with batting and fails to score runs. Samson has been unable to capitalise on his chances on the Caribbean tour. While he managed to score a fifty in the third ODI, his performance in the T20I series has been disappointing, as he has only registered 19 runs in two matches so far.

"KL Rahul Nearing Full Fitness, Eyeing Asia Cup, World Cup

Bengaluru: (IANS) Amidst the uncertainty over KL Rahul's availability in India's squad for the upcoming big events like Asia Cup and ODI World Cup, sources have told IANS that the wicketkeeperbatter is on the road to be fully fit and could be available for the bigticket competitions taking place in next few months. It was later revealed on May 5 that Rahul has suffered a significant tear to his tendon in the right thigh and will undergo a surgery for the same. After that, Rahul has been undergoing rehabilitation at the NCAin Bengaluru to recover from the injury.

"He's on his way to be properly fit and could be available for the Indian team's upcoming matches. Previously, people had said that he wasn’t close to resuming batting in the nets, but he was seen batting at the same day. He is on the way to be fit and maybe, he will be available now," a source privy to the development told IANS.

Dissecting streetwear comes bearing dissent and dubiety galore. In the times of blurry definitions & an ever-evolving socio-political time, we ought to acknowledge its impact on history. So, how & where did the term ‘streetwear’ originate? The buzzword gained momentum during the 90s in the west, with the rise of hip-hop, graffiti, sports fanaticism, skateboarding and the likes. Sneakerheads, as we call them, are a proud patron of the streetwear community & are ruling the high-fashion scene. Now, we have multiple Indian streetwear brands furthering hype culture with their designs that are not only culturally relevant but also androgynous in their making. With inclusive models, liberal philosophies & gender bending constructions, they’re spearheading the new wave which is certainly here to stay.

Not INDIA, Call Them “Ghamandiya”: PM Modi

Bulldozer Action In Nuh: 250 Shanties On “Illegally Occupied” Land Razed

New Delhi: Haryana government last evening razed shanties of immigrants living in Tauru, about 20 km away from violence-hit Nuh, for encroaching on government land. The bulldozer move, however, is also being seen as action against alleged rioters, as both the district administration and the Chief Minister earlier alleged immigrants were involved in the clashes. Sources said Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar ordered the demolition.

In recent weeks, PM Modi has frequently attacked the opposition bloc for calling itself INDIA, accusing the parties, of attempting a rebrand to whitewash their past record.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi suggested a new strategy to tackle the opposition alliance as he met with allies from Bihar on Thursday - not calling them INDIA but “Ghamandiya” the Hindi word for arrogant. In recent weeks, PM Modi has frequently attacked the opposition bloc for calling itself INDIA, accusing the parties, particularly the Congress, of attempting a rebrand to whitewash their past record as the former UPA or United Progressive Alliance.

“They changed their name from UPA to INDIA to hide how they schemed against the poor... The name INDIA is not to show their patriotism but with an intention to rob the country,” PM Modi said at a recent event.

“The fight is between NDA and INDIA, Between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and INDIA, between their (the BJP’s) ideology and INDIA. You know what happens when someone stands against India, who wins,” Rahul Gandhi explained during a press conference.

“Illegal” immigrants from Bangladesh who were earlier living in Assam had allegedly set up shanties on Haryana Urban Authority land in ward number one along Mohammadpur road of Tauru town in Nuh district. More than 250 shanties were built in about one acre

of land, and they were reportedly living here for the last four years. The bulldozer action took place amid heavy police and paramilitary deployment in anticipation of disturbances. Officers from several

In a fresh incident of arms looting, a mob comprising the majority community broke into a police armoury and stole weapons, including AK and ‘Ghatak’ series of assault rifles, and over 19,000 bullets of various calibres, officials said. The incident took place at the battalion headquarters of the 2nd India Reserve Battalion (IRB) located at Naranseina

in Bishnupur district. A crowd had gathered there to march towards Churachandpur where tribals were planning to carry out a mass burial of their people killed in ethnic clashes that broke out in the state on May 3, they said.

More than 19,000 rounds of bullets of different calibres, an AK series assault rifle, three ‘Ghaatak’ rifles, 195 self-loading rifles, five MP-5 guns, 16 9mm pistols, 25 bulletproof jackets, 21 carbines, 124 hand grenades among others were looted by the mob, officials said.

Announcing his campaign, Ayyadurai said he’s running for president at a time when “we stand at the crossroads where we can either head into a Golden Age or into the Darkness.” He added, “the old guard of career politicians, political hacks, lawyerlobbyists and academics who pervade the country and local government with corruption and crony capitalism stop America from becoming great.”

Ayyadurai came to America in 1970, when he was 7-year-old and settled in Paterson, New Jersey.

The life expectancy in India has increased in the decades since Independence, and now 9 per cent of the population is over the age of 60 years and technically retired. Many of these people needed to pay more attention to maintaining their health when they were younger. They did not, as they were too caught up in achieving financial security and raising their children.

In many cases, these children have now relocated to different states or even countries. From there, they tell parents to “enjoy your retirement”. They also support them financially. But to enjoy their retirement, parents need to be healthy. Once they stop working, their physical and mental health rapidly deteriorates with the onset or aggravation of lifestyle diseases. God-given health remains with us till the age of around 45. After this, without regular maintenance, there is a downward spiral. Joints, muscles and bones hurt, and eyesight and hearing fail. Therefore, senior citizens must keep themselves as healthy and fit as

Poor lifestyle leading to high BP among even adolescents: Expert Poor lifestyle habits, obesity, sleep deprivation and consumption of junk and processed food are the important reasons for blood pressure (BP) in youth and adolescents, according to leading physician Dr V. Jagadeesh Kumar. The consultant physician at KIMS Hospitals, Secunderabad, says that there is no disease called low BP. A person’s BP might decrease if he is dehydrated significantly but there is no medical definition of disease called low BP, he contends.

possible. Achieving this requires a lot of motivation.

One way is through yoga. It helps improve flexibility, strength, balance, posture, cardiac health and immunity. It also helps alleviate chronic pain. The breathing techniques help develop a calm mind and reduce stress, anxiety and depression. It also helps with falling asleep. It is a magic cure without medication, which many are not aware and do not use it.

Walking is a low-impact exercise. It is cheap; you only need a good pair of shoes. Don’t use sandals or slippers. Your feet may slip out, and you may fall. You do not even have to go outside to walk as it may be dangerous. Walking indoors in a figure of eight (infinity walking) is enough. It compliments yoga and provides many of the same benefits, like cardiovascular fitness, calorie expenditure, strong muscles and bones, mood elevation and good sleep.

The recommendations are 10,000 steps or 6km a day or 150 minutes a week. It can be split into several sessions. The pace should be brisk

enough to raise the heart rate, sweat and yet carry on a conversation. Intervals of faster walking can be interspersed for a greater benefit. The body’s temperature and heart rate are increased by walking. If you walk in the morning, you will sleep well at night, but if you walk vigorously after dinner, the elevated heartbeat and body temperature may keep you awake. All your walking must be finished by afternoon.

About 50 per cent of women and 30 per cent of men who are 65 years and above, have falls and fractures. This is because their bones and muscles are weak, affecting their balance. Broken bones take longer to heal in older people. Enforced bed rest impacts overall health and can cause complications like infection and blood clots.

Bones can be strengthened with regular supplements of Vitamin D3 and alendronate. Supplements will only work with exercise. Repetitive strain and stress on the bones are needed to make the calcium enter the bones.

After US, UK sees rise in Covid cases with new variant

Strong muscles also provide a buffer during falls, prevent fractures and increase bone mineral density. Muscle strengthening can be done with one or two kilo weights. Regular dumbbells or a one or two-litre bottle filled with water can be used.

Legs can be strengthened by sitting in a chair, lifting the legs one at a time, and holding that position for a count of 20. These movements should be repeated 20 times.

Mental fitness can be maintained by engaging in activities stimulating the mind and improving memory and cognition. This can be done by learning new subjects, languages and skills. Many classes are available for free online.

Healthy ageing has to be pursued with dedication despite discouragement and advice to “rest and relax” from well-wishers. Remember, age is just a number.

Here’s hoping you have a life welllived and a future filled with health and happiness.

Scientists edge closer to engineering blood vessels

Almost one-third of Australians report feeling lonely, a landmark study revealed on Monday. Ending Loneliness Together, a national coalition of research and advocacy organisations, on Monday published the first State of the Nation Report into social connection, reports Xinhua news agency. The survey of more than 4,000 people aged 18-92 revealed that 32 per cent of Australian women and 31 per cent of men are lonely.

The UK has reported a new Covid variant EG.5.1, accounting for 1 in 7 new cases, according to the country's Health Security Agency (UKHSA). This comes after the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) stated an increase in new Covid cases as well as the number of Covid hospitalisations -- from around 6,300 in June to more than 8,000 for the week ending July 22.

In a breakthrough, a team of Australian scientists has developed a fast, inexpensive and scalable method for engineering blood vessels from natural tissue.

By combining multiple materials and fabrication technologies, the team from University of Melbourne developed the method to create blood vessels with complex geometries like native blood vessels.
