Joe Biden said ‘no’ to allies and ‘yes’ to Taliban, alleges top Republican leader Ripping apart the Afghan policy of the Biden administration, Kevin McCarthy said the president has ruined America's reputation on the world stage for decades to come.

Democrats Urge Joe Biden To Fight Restart Of Trump Immigration Policy HiIndia Newsdesk Washington:Democratic lawmakers and immigration advocates pressed President Joe Biden on Wednesday to take new steps to end an immigration policy begun by his predecessor Donald Trump after the top U.S. court ordered that the "remain in Mexico" program be reinstated. The policy put in place by Trump, a Republican, forced thousands of asylum seekers to stay in Mexico to await U.S. hearings. In one of his first acts as president in January, Biden, a Democrat, ended the policy, formally known as the Migrant Protection Protocols (MPP).

the largest international hostage situation we have ever faced as a nation,” House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy told reporters at a Capitol Hill press conference on Wednesday. Ripping apart the Afghan policy of the Biden administration, McCarthy said the president has ruined America’s reputation on the world stage, not for a week, but for decades to come. “Our own allies are criticising us…asking us to extend the (August 31 withdrawal) deadline so they can get their own citizens home, not for any other reason,” he said. “The allies that we have fought for years together, he (Biden) said no, and yes to the Taliban. So, no, none of that would have happened under a different administration. And, yes, that was a failure, one of the biggest failures I watched from a foreign policy in my lifetime.

US Capitol attack: House committee demands Trump White House records

HiIndia Newsdesk A congressional committee investigating the deadly Jan. 6 attack on the US Capitol issued its first demands for documents from government agencies on Wednesday, including communications involving some of former President Donald Trump’s

closest advisers and family. The House of Representatives Select Committee asked for White House communications records on and leading up to Jan. 6. The panel also made extensive requests for material from the Departments of Defense, Homeland Security, Interior and Justice, and the FBI, National Counterterrorism Center and Office of the Director of National Intelligence. The committee’s Democratic chairman, Representative Bennie Thompson, gave the agencies two weeks — until Sept. 9 — to produce the materials. It expects to make additional requests as the investigation moves forward.

Afghanistan: 'The sooner we Donald Trump slams Joe Biden's finish, the better,' says Joe Biden Afghan evacuation policy

HiIndia Newsdesk US President Joe Biden says the US is "on pace" to meet a 31 August deadline for evacuations, despite previous calls from allies for an extension. "The sooner we finish the better," he said. Some American troops have already been withdrawn, US media report although evacuations are not affected. At least 70,700 people have been airlifted from Kabul, which fell to the Taliban nine days ago. The militants have opposed any extension to the evacuation deadline. President Biden said: "The Taliban have been taking steps to help get our people out," adding that the international community would judge the Taliban by their actions. "None of us are going to take the Taliban's word for it," he added. Mr Biden said the airlift had to come to an end soon because of an increasing threat from the Islamic State group in Afghanistan. The longer the US stayed in the country, he said, there was an "acute and growing risk of an attack" by the group.

HiIndia Newsdesk Former US President Donald Trump has slammed his successor Joe Biden on his Afghan policy and expressed concerns that thousands of terrorists might have been flown out of Afghanistan as part of the evacuation process. Biden surrendered Afghanistan to terrorists and left thousands of Americans for dead by pulling out the military before our citizens, Trump said in a statement on Tuesday. "Now we are learning that out of the 26,000 people who have been evacuated, only 4,000 are Americans. You can be sure, the Taliban, who are now in complete control, didn't allow the best and brightest to board these evacuation flights. "Instead, we can only imagine how many thousands of terrorists have been airlifted out of Afghanistan and into neighbourhoods around the world. What a terrible failure. NO VETTING. How many terrorists will Joe Biden bring to America? We don't know!" he said.

YouTube Says It Removed 1 Million "Dangerous" Videos On Covid-19

HiIndia Newsdesk Washington, United States:YouTube said Wednesday it has removed more than one million videos with "dangerous coronavirus misinformation" since the start of the Covid-19 pandemic. The statement by the Google-owned video platform comes as social media platforms are under fire from political leaders for failing to stem the spread of false and harmful misinformation and disinformation about the virus and other topics. YouTube said in a blog post it relies on "expert consensus from health organizations," including the US Centers for Disease Control and the World Health Organization, but noted that, in some cases, "misinformation is less clear-cut" as new facts emerge. "Our policies center on the removal of any videos that can directly lead to egregious real world harm," chief product officer Neal Mohan wrote. "Since February of 2020, we've removed over one million videos related to dangerous coronavirus information, like false cures or claims of a hoax," he said.

Lord Botham appointed trade envoy to Australia

HiIndia Newsdesk Ian Botham, the former England cricketer known for legendary clashes with Australia, has been appointed UK government trade envoy to the country.Lord Botham, along with Baroness Hoey and several MPs, have been made trade envoys to boost British business interests around the world.International trade secretary Liz Truss tweeted the former all-rounder would "bat for UK business down under". Lord Botham reportedly once said "Aussies are big and empty - just like the country", whereas he was affectionately known in the country as Guy the Gorilla. He is one of 10 new trade envoys.

The U.S. maintains sanctions on the Taliban as an entity, and it can veto any moves by China and Russia to ease United Nations Security Council restrictions on the militant group.

Afghanistan is sitting on deposits estimated to be worth $1 trillion or more.

HiIndia Newsdesk When the U.S. invaded Afghanistan in 2001, the global economy looked a lot different: Tesla Inc. wasn't a company, the iPhone didn't exist and artificial intelligence was best known as a Steven Spielberg film. Now all three are at the cutting edge of a modern economy driven by advancements in high-tech chips and largecapacity batteries that are made with a range of minerals, including rare earths. And Afghanistan is sitting on deposits

Rwanda will host dozens of schoolgirls being relocated from Afghanistan following the takeover of their country by Taliban militants. Shabana Basij-Rasikh, the founder of a privately run School of Leadership, Afghanistan (Sola), said on Tuesday that about 250 students, staff and family members were en-route to Rwanda, through Qatar, to begin a “semester abroad for our entire student body”.

estimated to be worth $1 trillion or more, including what may be the world's largest lithium reserves -- if anyone can get them out of the ground. Four decades of war -- first with the Soviet Union, then between warring tribes, then with the U.S. -- prevented that from happening. That's not expected to change anytime soon, with the Taliban already showing signs they want to reimpose a theocracy that turns back the clock on women's rights and other basic freedoms rather than lead Afghanistan to a prosperous future. But there's also an optimistic outlook, now being pushed by Beijing, that goes like this: The Taliban form an "inclusive" government with warlords of competing ethnic groups, allows a minimal level of basic human rights for women and minorities, and fights terrorist elements that want to strike the U.S., China, India or any other country. "With the U.S. withdrawal, Beijing can offer what Kabul needs most: political impartiality and economic investment," Zhou Bo, who was a senior colonel in the People's Liberation Army from 2003 to 2020, wrote in an op-ed in the New York Times over the weekend. "Afghanistan in turn has what China most prizes: opportunities in infrastructure and industry building -- areas in which China's capabilities are arguably unmatched -- and access to $1 trillion in untapped mineral deposits."

Russia and China agree to step World Bank freezes aid disbursements to Afghanistan up efforts to tackle 'threats' in Afghanistan

HiIndia Newsdesk The World Bank said on Tuesday that it had halted disbursements of aid money to Afghanistan as it assesses how the Taliban plan to rule the country. A World Bank spokesperson said that the international development organisation is “deeply concerned” about the situation in Afghanistan, particularly the impact that the new leadership will have on women in the country. The bank plans to monitor how the leadership transition proceeds. The World Bank has committed more than $5.3 billion for development projects in Afghanistan since 2002 and has raised nearly $13 billion for the Afghanistan Reconstruction Trust Fund, which it administers.

Tokyo, Japan:Japan will halt the use of 1.63 million doses of Moderna's Covid vaccine after reports of contamination in several lots, drugmaker Takeda and the health ministry said Thursday. Takeda, which is in charge of sales and distribution of the Moderna shot in Japan, said it had "received reports from several vaccination centres that foreign substances have been found inside unopened vials from specific lots." "Upon consultation with the health ministry, we have decided to suspend the use of the vaccine from the lot from August 26," it added. The firm said it had informed Moderna and "requested an urgent investigation."

HiIndia Newsdesk Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping agreed in a phone call on Wednesday to step up efforts to combat the threats of ”terrorism” and drug trafficking from Afghanistan, the Kremlin said. The two leaders said it was important to prevent instability spilling into neighbouring countries from Afghanistan, the Kremlin said in a readout of the call. They also spoke of the "importance of establishing peace" in Afghanistan and "preventing spread of instability to Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping the adjacent regions". spoke of the 'importance of Putin and Xi "agreed to establishing peace' in the intensify bilateral contacts" country and 'preventing and "make the most of the the spread of instability to potential" of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation adjacent regions' (SCO) that is due to convene for a summit in Tajikistan next month. They exchanged views on Afghanistan a day after leaders of the Group of Seven countries met to discuss the crisis. China and Russia are not part of the G7, a grouping of rich democracies which includes the United States and Britain. President Joe Biden said on Tuesday the United States expects to finish evacuations by Aug. 31. The Taliban said all foreign evacuations from the country must be completed by then. The G7 leaders agreed on Tuesday to press the Taliban to allow safe passage to Afghans wanting to leave after Aug. 31. In the call with Putin on Wednesday, Xi reiterated China's position of non-interference and of respecting Afghanistan's sovereignty and independence, China's People's Daily reported.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 27, 2021

Narendra Modi has enjoyed a long honeymoon with India's voters. Backed by a prodigiously funded and well-oiled Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), Mr Modi has pulled off two consecutive election wins. He has forged a vigorous Hindu nationalist base and displayed abundant charisma and guile to woo voters and outfox his opponents. Luck has also been on his side. His supporters have forgiven him for rash missteps such as the scrapping of high-value currency notes - or demonetisation - in 2016. An underperforming economy - more severely so, after the pandemic - doesn't appear to have eroded support. The absence of a strong opposition has also helped.

A

new poll by the India Today magazine involving 14,600 people and conducted in July found that only 24% of respondents considered the 70-yearold leader "best-suited" to be India's next prime minister. The next general elections are due in 2024. This is a steep drop of 42 points since a similar poll last year. "In my 20-plus years of opinion polling, I cannot recall such an instance of nosedive in any prime minister's popularity," noted Yogendra Yadav, a pollster-turnedpolitician and a critic of Mr Modi. Mr Modi has had a rough year so far. His carefully crafted image took a global battering after his government mishandled the catastrophic second Covid wave where tens of thousands of people died. The economy is struggling: inflation is high, fuel prices have surged and there's a squeeze on jobs and consumption. Some of the distress and distrust are reflected in the poll. Around 70% of the respondents said their incomes had fallen during the pandemic; and an equal number believed the real death toll was higher than the official 430,000. But 36% of the poll's respondents rated Mr Modi's handling of the pandemic as "good". Only 13% felt that his government alone should shoulder the blame for the suffering of the people; and 44% felt both the federal and states governments had bungled their Covid response. Pandemic aside, the poll provides other clues as to why Mr Modi's popularity might be dropping. Inflation and lack of jobs emerged as the two most worrying concerns - nearly a third of respondents said failure to rein in prices was his government's biggest failure. "Mr Modi's decline in popularity is not surprising," said Rahul Verma, a fellow with the Delhi-based Centre for Policy Research. Mr Modi has been a polarising leader. During his rule, critics say, media freedom has diminished considerably - the prime minister hasn't held a press conference since he came to power in 2014 - and dissent is being muzzled. Mr Modi himself and his party have been accused of using dog-whistle politics

Pandemic and sluggish growth take a hit on Modi

- coded, divisive messages - to stoke sectarian tensions. Fierce protests over a controversial citizenship law and proposed farm reforms appear to have dented the prime minister's image as an invincible leader. His party's crushing defeat in West Bengal in May has also emboldened his opponents. Many believe that for a leader whose face is everywhere - billboards, vaccine certificates, newspaper and TV adverts - a sharp drop in ratings could signal the beginning of a decline of the cult of personality. But do such polls - which employ different ways to sample voters faithfully mirror the mood of a nation? According to Morning Consult, which tracks national ratings of the elected leaders of 13 countries, Mr Modi's approval rating has suffered a 25-point slide since May last year. Yet, at 47% in mid-August, Mr Modi is way ahead of others. In June, another survey by Indian polling agency Prashnam, found Mr Modi enjoyed a rating of nearly 33% as the preferred prime ministerial candidate in 2024. A dip in the ratings will not be enough to unseat Mr Modi. And even at their lowest, Mr Modi's ratings are usually double and more that of Rahul Gandhi, leader of the main opposition Congress. So the prime minister could be picking up extra approval points because of a lack of credible opposition. "Mr Modi still leads the race. But the drop in ratings should worry him a bit," Mr Verma said.

“Immediate Task Is Evacuation”: Centre At All-Party Meet On Afghanistan Situation critical, notes Jaishankar, says friendship of people will guide long- term goals

HiIndia Newsdesk Evacuating Indian personnel from Afghanistan, where the situation is “critical”, was a top priority, the government said on Thursday at the all-party meet, convened to brief on the Afghan situation. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar briefed the leaders on the latest situation in Afghanistan after the Taliban captured power there last week. Around 15,000 people have contacted the government seeking assistance in fleeing from Afghanistan, sources said, adding that Jaishankar had also briefed the opposition about evacuation steps being taken by other nations, such as the United States, Russia and China. Besides Jaishankar, Union minister and

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar after the all-party meeting on Afghanistan.

Leader of the House in Rajya Sabha Piyush Goyal and Parliamentary Affairs Minister

Pralhad Joshi were also present during the briefing in the Parliament House Annexe.

Delta Third Wave unlikely In India with sero-positivity at 86 per cent, say experts More dangerous variants could emerge over time that could challenge vaccine immunity

“I am predicting that, as of now, a Third Wave caused by the highly transmissible Delta variant is most unlikely,” says leading virologist Dr T. Jacob John, former head of ICMR’s Centre for Advanced Research in Virology. John’s firm belief that a Third Wave caused by the Delta variant is unlikely to happen is backed by a CSIR study of its employees which is about to be released. In Delhi, the study found, 86 per cent of its unvaccinated employees and their families who were tested had Covid-19 antibodies. Similarly, Lucknow had high numbers and also Ghaziabad, on Delhi’s outskirts. Says Dr Anurag Agrawal, director, Institute of Genomics and Integrative Biology, who headed the survey: “It wasn’t unique to Delhi. There were many other places with high numbers.” In Delhi, 850 unvaccinated CSIR employees took part in the survey. Most virologists say that 86 per cent positivity should be enough to create “herd immunity” even for a highly

infectious virus like the Delta variant. But there is still the worry of variants that are more dangerous than the Delta emerging over time and experts say the war against Covid-19 is far from won. Virologist Shahid Jameel explains why the earlier

herd immunity calculations were thrown out of the window because of the fast-spreading Delta variant. “The better the transmission of any pathogen, the higher is the threshold of herd immunity. The simple fact is that the faster something transmits the more immunity in a population will be required to prevent its spread,” he says. Dr Jameel is director, Trivedi School of Biosciences at Ashoka University. In addition to the people infected by the Delta variant, in the last few months, the pace of vaccinations has also been picking up. John is highly critical of the vaccine programme, pointing out that only 13 per cent of the total population has received two doses. “Seven months after the approval of the vaccine, this is most disappointing,” he says. Nobody believes Covid-19 is about to do a disappearing act. One expert predicts: “It will slowly turn into influenza. It is here to stay and not about to vanish.”

Narayan Rane’s arrest justified, but no need to keep him in custody: Court

HiIndia Newsdesk The court which granted bail to Union Minister and BJP Rajya Sabha member Narayan Rane late Tuesday night, said that while his arrest was ‘justified’, there was no need to keep him in custody. Rane was arrested Tuesday by Maharashtra Police for threatening to “slap” Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. Rane was produced before the Judicial Magistrate First Class at 9.55 pm on Tuesday after the Police arrested him when his transit anticipatory bail application was rejected by the Ratnagiri sessions court earlier in the day

The endemic stage is when a population learns to live with a virus. It’s very different from the epidemic stage when the virus overwhelms a population. On clearance to Covaxin, she said she is fairly confident that the WHO’s technical group will be satisfied to give Covaxin clearance to be one of its authorised vaccines and that could happen by midSeptember. In an interview to journalist Karan Thapar for news website The Wire, Swaminathan said given the size of India and heterogeneity of population and immunity status in different parts of the country, it is “very very feasible” that the situation may continue like this with ups and downs in various parts of the nation.

He calls himself a “comet” who appears once in a decade, and that is because he is “choosy and lazy”, and he also doesn’t like doing “mono-dimensional characters.” The veteran star, who last graced the screens in 2009 in the Marathi film Samaantar, will next be seen in the Mumbai-set drama 200 Halla Ho, also starring Rinku Rajguru, and Barun Sobti among others. He plays a retired Dalit judge in the movie. Palekar doesn’t want to call his upcoming ZEE5 film his ‘return’ to the movies. He is just excited about it since for him 200 Halla Ho is a rarity that dares to showcase an unsettling theme which “cinema conveniently and systematically keeps away” from.

Pankaj Tripathi launches first moving theatre in Ladakh with the screening of short film Sekool

What would the movie viewing experience be like at 11,562 feet? Comfortable and enjoyable, hoped Sushil Chaudhary of PictureTime Digiplex as he launched the first moving theatre in Ladakh. On Sunday, actor Pankaj Tripathi unveiled the inflatable theatre that was installed at the NSD Grounds in Leh. Tripathi, who was joined by Thupstan Chhewang, president, Ladakh Buddhist Association, says the locals were jubilant to have a community-viewing experience. “So many regions of our country don’t have

the joy of watching films. It’s incredible and heart-warming to see something like this come up in Ladakh. The people looked ecstatic. I am sure after [the pandemic subsides], this concept will flourish further,” says the actor. While the inflatable theatre is designed to seat 150, the imminent screenings will allow only 75 people per show to maintain social distancing and safety protocols. A special screening of Akshay Kumar’s latest release, Bell Bottom, is slated for the Indian Army and the CISF. Chaudhary, founder and CEO, PictureTime Digiplex, says the move was prompted by his desire to bring a multiplex cinemawatching experience to the locals

Rep. Raja Krishnamoorthi Calls for Need to Address Massive Green Card Backlog in Budget Reconciliation Package

HiIndia Newsdesk WASHINGTON, DC – Indian Amer ican C ong ressman R aja Krishnamoorthi (D-IL) Aug. 23 c a l l e d on h i s c on g re s s i on a l colleagues to join him in sending a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer on the need to address the employment-based green card backlog as part of budget reconciliation. Any package that addresses longstanding immigration priorities must include relief for the approximately 1.2 million individuals unable to receive a green card primarily due to countrybased discrimination, the congressman said in a statement. “I am pleased that tackling our broken immigration system is part of the budget reconciliation discussion,” said Krishnamoorthi. “However, it is imperative any immigration package include provisions to address the employment-based green card backlog, which is damaging American competitiveness and abandoning 1.2 million people to perpetual nonimmigrant status. I call on my colleagues to immediately raise this important issue with leadership and ensure that relief for backlogged high-skilled workers is included in the final package. Our economic recovery from COVID-19 depends on it.” The letter, which will be sent in a week, is co-signed by Reps. Kathy Manning (D-NC) and Deborah Ross (D-NC). Krishnamoorthi

stated in the letter that “The American economy is unable to access the full international talent pool of high-skilled workers a l r e a d y p r e s e nt a n d working in the United States today – the very s c i e nt i s t s , i nv e nt or s , h e a l t h c a re w o r k e r s , entrepreneurs, and other professionals that give the United States its edge over its global competitors today. This is because there is effectively a green card ban on high-skilled immigrants from India, China, and other countries with large populations of workers eager to remain in America and power forward our economy and social safety net programs for generations to come. Right now, no more than 7% of employment-based green cards are available to individuals from a single country, which has created a decades-long backlog for would-be immigrants from India and China.” The congressman noted that “Indian nationals face a particularly daunting backlog of 80 years, and an anticipated 200,000 will die before achieving lawful permanent resident status,” adding that “this is keeping some of the world’s most talented individuals from permanently calling America home, encouraging them to take their inventions, expertise, and creativity to other countries instead.”

James Anderson felt that Jasprit Bumrah “wasn’t trying to get me out” in that much-talked-about 10-ball over at the fag end of Day 3 of the Lord’s Test. But the Indians may have had bigger fish to fry than the wicket of the England No.11. By riling up the England team, they capitalised on the resultant edge that contributed to a memorable win. Bumrah’s barrage didn’t get him Anderson’s wicket – that went to Mohammed Shami with a full ball targeting the stumps in the next over – but it did contribute to the dismissal by disturbing the mindset and footmovement of Anderson, who is known to be a stubborn customer with the bat at times. With skipper Joe Root batting serenely on 170 at the other end, Anderson’s brief would have been to swell the England lead – which was 12 at the start of the over – as much as possible. He would have watched the pitch being slow and wouldn’t have been prepared for what he encountered. “I got caught off guard a little bit because all the batters coming in were saying how slow the pitch was. Banged in short, it was really slow. When I came out to bat, Joe Root said Bumrah was not bowling as quick as he normally does,” Anderson said on the BBC Tailenders podcast.

Four ways older adults can get back to exercising

without the worry of an injury We naturally lose muscle mass as we get older. This process starts around the age of 36, and by the time we are 80 we’ve lost about 50% of our muscle mass. Long periods of inactivity can also cause us to lose a greater amount of muscle mass than we might normally.

W

e naturally lose muscle mass as we get older. This process starts around the age of 36, and by the time we are 80 we’ve lost about 50% of our muscle mass. Long periods of inactivity can also cause us to lose a greater amount of muscle mass than we might normally. This has been the case during the COVID-19 pandemic, as many of us were less able to exercise as much as we use to do. While most young people will be able to bounce back and regain their muscle mass easily, it may not be as easy for older people. This is because it can be more difficult to gain muscle mass as we age due to the changes in muscle structure, and doing too much too quickly can result in serious injuries. This is why older people need to get the balance right when easing back into exercise again.

Maintaining muscle mass

Maintaining muscle is important for many reasons. As we age, frailty can make it more difficult for us to be independent and do the things we need to do each day – from going shopping to meeting our friends. Being active maintains a healthy musculoskeletal system whilst also protecting us from some diseases, such as type 2 diabetes. Research also shows that strong active muscles can help prevent falls and lower injury risk. But while it may be tempting to hit the gym and start lifting weights now that many COVID-19 restrictions have eased in the UK, if it’s been a while since you last exercised regularly, it’s important to ease back into things. Weak and de-conditioned muscles take time to build strength and doing too much vigorous, repetitive exercise can overload muscles and joints that have not been trained, leading to injury.

1. Progress slowly. It’s best to gradually return to activity so you don’t overdo things or injure yourself. A staged approach, where you slowly introduce different exercises, will allow your muscles to recover between each session. Beginning with basic exercises around the house is a good starting point. Then increasing the number and type of exercises you do can also help you from getting fatigued and losing form – which are prime conditions for an injury to occur. For example, starting with a short walk that then gets longer and progresses to a hill or rougher terrain allows for slow and persistent challenges for your body to become accustomed to while still helping you stay interested in exercising.

2. Reduce the time you spend sitting. Long periods of sitting, if you have had to isolate or if you are working from home, significantly reduces muscle activity – and therefore muscle mass. So if you haven’t kept exercising during the pandemic, you can’t expect to pick up where you left off. Take frequent breaks between meetings and introduce

Intense repetition of the same movement or activity can cause wear and tear, often referred to as repetitive strain. This is why it’s important to do different exercises, instead of the same thing every day. Alongside cardio workouts, which have benefits for our heart, lung, and circulatory system, try strength training. a walk at lunch. Stretching and moving around after long periods of sitting prevents fatigue and shortening of muscles – which can improve posture and balance, too.

3. Shake up the exercises you do. Intense repetition of the same movement or activity can cause wear and tear, often referred to as repetitive strain. This is why it’s important to do different exercises, instead of the same thing every day. Alongside cardio workouts, which have benefits for our heart, lung, and circulatory system, try strength training. Challenging our muscles as we get older with weight lifting and resistance training not only improves neuromuscular function – the communication

between the brain and muscles – but improves balance and mobility too. Taking part in exercises that work your cardiovascular system as well as strengthen muscles improves overall wellbeing.

4. Work on the small things. It’s important to work on our big prime muscles – such as our glutes or quads – with walking, running and gym exercises. But it’s just as important to work on our small postural muscles too. For example, the small intrinsic muscles in our feet play an important role in improving strength and balance. Gripping a soft ball between your toes is an easy way to improve these small foot muscles. Having stability within the joints of your body from postural muscles also allows for these big muscle groups to do their job when walking, running or at the gym. Paying attention to these core postural muscles with activation and control exercises will help prevent injury. If you’re looking to get back to a regular exercise routine after many months off, it’s important to make sure you take things slow and change up your routine often. Developing a healthy balance of cardiovascular, strength and resistance training as well as core stability work will improve your musculoskeletal health as well as helping your overall health whilst preventing injury.

‘Never stopped fighting through the pick’: Hasan Minhaj Speaking at Davis Senior High School, comedian and writer Hasan Minhaj gave a powerful speech. “I learned that you can’t fall off the floor.
