HiIndia Newsdesk Mary Trump, the niece of Donald Trump, sued the U.S. president on Thursday, accusing him and other family members of cheating her out of tens of millions of dollars from an inheritance. Facebook oversight board "If We Can Help, Would Love To Help": debut plan before US polls Trump On India-China Border Row

"I know that China now, and India, are having difficulty, and very very substantial difficulty. And hopefully, they will be able to work that out," Trump told reporters at the White House.

HiIndia Newsdesk Facebook Inc’s long-delayed independent oversight board plans to launch in mid-late October, just before the November US presidential election, although a board member said he did not know whether it would hear cases related to the contest. The board, created by Facebook in response to criticism of its handling of problematic content, will initially have the power to review decisions to take down posts from Facebook and Instagram, and recommend policy changes. Oversight board member Alan Rusbridger told Reuters in an interview that the board was now aiming for an October launch. A spokesman confirmed that timetable, saying the launch, originally planned for last year, had also been slowed by the coronavirus pandemic.

McConnell promises an 'orderly' transition of power

HiIndia Newsdesk Republican leader Mitch McConnell has said there will be an "orderly" post-election transition after the president questioned the process's integrity. The top US senator said that, regardless of who wins the 3 November presidential election, there will be a peaceful inauguration on 20 January. A day earlier, President Donald Trump refused to commit to this, saying "we'll have to see what happens". He has cast doubt on postal voting, but election officials insist it is safe. The president currently trails his challenger, Democrat Joe Biden, in national opinion polls with 40 days to go until the election.

"I know that China now, and India, are having difficulty, and very very substantial difficulty. And hopefully, they will be able to work that out," Trump told reporters at the White House. "If we can help, we would love to help," he said. The president's remarks in this regard come days after senior Indian and Chinese military commanders held talks aimed at resolving the months-long standoff along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Ladakh. The drones will deliver the test kits to people’s front yards, driveways or nearest sidewalks free of cost and could take as little as five minutes, CNN reported. Once they place an order, customers will receive a text message when the test kit is on its way. The drone will drop the package in a safe location, depending on where there are cars and trees. After the customer administers the test, the sample can then be sent via courier service FedEx to a diagnostic lab, which will announce the results digitally within around two days, CNN reported.

The iconic US motorcycle maker is stopping sales and manufacturing operations, it said. The plant was opened in 2011 but HarleyDavidson has struggled to compete with local brand Hero as well as Japan's Honda. About 17 million motorcycles and scooters are sold each year in India.

Modi ‘busy with fitness’, not farmers

The Congress on Thursday lent its voice to the agitating farmers by accusing the government of giving licence to the corporates for profiteering in agriculture trade and also exposed the inconsistencies of Prime Minister Narendra Modi who was busy discussing fitness regimes of celebrities. The Prime Minister was talking to celebrities as part of Fit India dialogue. While Rahul clearly hinted that Modi’s priorities were wrong, party spokesperson Abhishek Singhvi also lamented tactics of “diversion and distraction” as issues ranging from economy to Chinese intrusion and Covid-19 were crying for attention. Apart from creating a noise about the injustice meted out to the farmers across the country, the Congress also pointed to the Prime Minister’s duplicity on the question of problems of agriculture sector.

HiIndia Newsdesk Cricket icon Sunil Gavaskar on Friday found himself in the midst of a controversy for remarks about Virat Kohli and his wife actor Anushka Sharma in his commentary during an IPL match. In the video, Kohli can be seen bowling to Anushka before taking to the stumps. The video then shows Anushka bowling to him. Reacting to Gavaskar’s comment, Anushka Sharma posted on instagram: “That, Mr Gavaskar, your message is distasteful is a fact but I would love for you to explain why you thought of making such a sweeping statement on a wife accusing her of her husband’s game? I’m sure over the years you have respected the private lives of every cricketer while commentating on the game. Don’t you think you should have equal amount of respect for me and us? I’m sure you can have many other words and sentences in your mind to use to comment on my husband’s performance from last night or are your words only relevant if you use my name in the process? Its 2020 and things still don’t change for me. When will I stop getting dragged into cricket and stop being used to pass sweeping statements? Respected Mr Gavaskar, you are a legend whose name stands tall in this gentleman’s game. Just wanted to tell you what I felt when I heard you say this,” Anushka Sharma posted on Instagram stories.

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi today interacted with fitness icons including cricket captain Virat Kohli and actor-model Milind Soman as part of the “Fit India Dialogue” to promote fitness and health. Speaking to Milind Soman who, at 55, has often surprised his fans and social media followers with his fitness levels, PM Modi questioned: “Whatever you say your age is - are you really that old or is it something else?” Milind Soman replied with a chuckle: “Many ask me, are you 55? They wonder how I can run 500 KM at this age. I tell them my mother is 81. I want to be like her when I reach that age. My mother is an inspiration for me and many others.” PM Modi, jokingly referring to the former supermodel as “Made in India Milind”, shared that he had been forwarded a video of his mother doing push-ups and had watched it five times in awe. Milind Soman pointed out that the older generation was used to walking up to 50 KM a day and women in villages still do so for daily chores like fetching water. “But in cities we are sedentary. The more we keep sitting, our energy and fitness goes down. It is normal for any person to do 100 KM a day,” he said. He also suggested that to stay fit, everyone could do simple things at home. “Gyms and machines are not necessary. I can be fit at 8 by 10 foot space in home. You only need mental strength,” he said.

Parts of Hyderabad zoo inundated as heavy rain lashes city

HiIndia Newsdesk A surprise spell of heavy downpour left different parts of the city inundated, crippling the normal life. The highest rainfall of 11 cm was recorded in Bahadurpura, a suburb of the Old city which also houses the city’s famous zoo. A panic alarm was sounded by the zoo authorities late evening as bad weather showed no signs of respite.Parts of the zoo, especially the 99-acre animal safari park were inundated immediately after the adjoining Mir Alam tank started overflowing. After feeding the animals, birds, and reptiles, the entire staff of over 100 people were pressed into emergency services. Even as they cleared the channels and canals inside the 380-acre zoo to ensure a free flow of water, the animal enclosures and moats were filled with water to the brim, and roads were inundated by Thursday morning.

Atletico Madrid Announce Signing Of Luis Suarez From Barcelona

Atletico Madrid announced the signing of Barcelona forward Luis Suarez late on Wednesday, confirming the Uruguayan striker is set to continue playing in La Liga rather than joining Juventus in Italy.

Serena Williams embarks on latest quest for 24th major in French Open 2020

Serena Williams’ latest quest to make history begins when the curtain rises on the French Open at Roland Garros next week. While a Grand Slam brings enormous pressure for all, the weight of expectation is greater on Williams than anyone else in her sport, with speculation renewed as to whether she can equal Australian Margaret Court’s record 24 major titles. With world number one and holder Ash Barty plus 2019 and 2020 U.S. Open winners Bianca A n d re e s c u an d Naomi Osaka out of the tournament, the French Open could see plenty of surprises and a chance for Wi l l i ams to pounce. HiIndia Newsdesk Atletico Madrid announced the signing of Barcelona forward Luis Suarez late on Wednesday, confirming the Uruguayan striker is set to continue playing in La Liga rather than joining Juventus in Italy. Barcelona said that Atletico had agreed to pay six million euros for Suarez, who left his last training session in tears on Wednesday having been told over the summer that he was no longer required by new coach Ronald Koeman. Since joining Barca from Liverpool in 2014, Suarez has won a host of trophies, including the 2015 Champions League and four Liga titles. He leaves as the club's third highest scorer with 198 goals behind Cesar Rodriguez (232) and Lionel Messi (634). The move to Barcelona's La Liga rivals follows a failed attempt to join Juventus. Juve coach Andrea Pirlo disclosed last week a deal was unlikely because of delays in the Uruguayan's bid to get an Italian passport. On Tuesday, prosecutors in Perugia said they suspected Suarez of cheating to pass his Italian language test with the aid of examiners suspected of helping him. The exit of the 33-year-old from Camp Nou comes as Koeman attempts to reshape Barcelona.

With holder Ashleigh Barty, Bianca Andreescu and Naomi Osaka out of the tournament, the French Open could see plenty of surprises and a chance for Serena Williams to pounce. American, who has won at Roland Garros three times, most recently in 2015, also faces plenty of obstacles. Her quest for 24 continues on clay — her least productive surface — where Romania’s Italian Open winner Simona Halep, Spain’s Garbine Muguruza and U.S. Open semi-final foe Victoria Azarenka of Belarus could all present a major challenge. Williams must also make a quick switch from hard court to clay, after an Achilles injury kept her out of the Rome event. She has come close to winning a 24th major on several occasions, reaching the finals in four since she returned from maternity leave in 2018 but coming up short each time. Her most recent bid ended at the hands of her long-time rival Azarenka, who triumphed after taming early nerves in a three-set U.S. Open battle earlier this month. Azarenka went on to lose in the final to Japan’s Osaka. Speaking to reporters at Flushing Meadows, Williams had said she tried to embrace the pressure of chasing records. “As Billie Jean King said, ‘Pressure is a privilege’. So I wouldn’t want it any other way,” said Williams, who will be 39 when the French Open women’s singles main draw begins. “So I just try to think about how fortunate I am to have been in this position, and honestly, to be Serena. It feels weird to say that.” But Williams’ powerful serve and fearsome backhand, which were on full display at Arthur Ashe Stadium, could once again level the field and confirm she is a perennial contender.

Jasprit Bumrah swings it MI’s way on a night Rohit Sharma pulls KKR pacers apart

After a lacklustre start to the season against Chennai Super Kings, Mumbai Indians roared back in style to thump Kolkata Knight Riders by 49 runs. In doing so, they ended their UAE jinx, winning their first match in this country in seven attempts. It was a match in which the stars aligned for the defending champions, who reduced the match to a one-sided contest much before the end. Put into bat, their captain Rohit Sharma laid the foundation, nearly batting through the innings to score a 54-ball 80. Useful contributions from the top and middleorder propelled them to a score of 195 that proved an uphill task for KKR with captain Dinesh Karthik, Eoin Morgan, and Andre Russell coming a cropper. the difference between the two teams was in their respective pace attacks. While KKR’s fast bowlers erred in line and length and looked fairly lacklustre, their MI counterparts, led by Jasprit Bumrah, were more hostile, purposeful and energetic.

Ambati Rayudu could miss one more game due to mild niggle

A mild hamstring niggle is likely to keep Chennai Super Kings’ in-form batsman Ambati Rayudu out for one more Indian Premier League (IPL) match. Rayudu, who played a blazing 71-run knock in the tournament opener against Mumbai Indians, missed CSK’s second match against Rajasthan Royals on Tuesday night due to the injury. “It is not a serious injury. He has a mild niggle in hamstring. His participation in next game will be known only on match day,” CSK’s chief executive officer Kasi Viswanathan told

How do you keep your mind off the pandemic? The pandemic does take a toll on the mind. Everyone is going through moodswings. Sometimes, it feels like you are drained of energy. You feel restless at times. You also feel excited. There are times you are at ease with everything. We are actors. More than anybody we actors observe ourselves and our changing moods keenly. We take care of it. Meditation is helpful. My wife is a voracious reader. I can’t claim to be one. I read a lot of political articles and columns. I am a typical Bihari in that respect. Sometimes, I read a book recommended by my wife. I recently read Hazari Prasad Dwivedi’s Kabir and Kurukshetra by Ramdhari Singh Dinkar. I also have to read so many scripts whether I like it or not. In the evening when I am free, I watch a movie or a web-series. What is the first thing you want to do when the pandemic is past? I am hoping to visit my village (Belwa in Bihar) soon. However, we can travel only

I miss my village in Bihar Manoj Bajpayee

Actor Manoj Bajpayee’s new evocative rap song, Bambai Main Ka Ba (What’s there in Mumbai?), attempts to capture the plight of these workers. The 51-year-old National Award-winning actor has returned to the sets and has undergone three Covid-19 tests so far as part of the shooting. At home, he says he keeps himself busy with chores, his daughter. when my daughter has a holiday. There won’t be Wi-Fi in my village and she can’t miss her classes. I was there last two years ago. So, I am missing it very much.

Why Hrithik Roshan is proud of himself

Salman Khan ropes in several south actors for Radhe to ensure a pan-India appeal After Sudeep's presence helped Dabangg 3 grab eyeballs in south market, Salman Khan ropes in several Tamil actors for Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai

Actor Hrithik Roshan cannot stop gushing over the latest selfie he shot. In the image he posted on Instagram, Hrithik looks dapper in a black T-shirt and cap. "Ye selfie hai. Camre ka button mere haath main hai (this is a selfie. I have the button for the camera in my hand). Waah! I am proud of myself," he wrote alongside the image.

Negativity not in Bollywood, exists only on TV channels: Anubhav Sinha

Besides showing the genesis of Bollywood's favourite cop Chulbul Pandey, Dabangg 3 (2019) was highly anticipated as it marked the onscreen union of Salman Khan and Kannada superstar Kichcha Sudeep. Owing to Sudeep's presence, the film had generated tremendous buzz in the south market. For his next, Radhe: Your Most Wanted Bhai, Khan has again roped in several south actors and technicians, thus ensuring that the cop drama has pan-India appeal. Before the film went on floors last year, it is heard that Salman Khan and director Prabhudheva were certain about tapping the South audience that has had limited interest in Hindi films so far.

Ram Gopal Varma: The Anurag Ranbir Kapoor approached for 10-part Kashyap I know is a highly assassin series by a OTT? sensitive and emotional person Sources suggest Ranbir Kapoor has been approached by leading OTT platform to make his digital debut with a 10-part action series

Ever since actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death in June, there has been a whirlwind of conspiracy theories regarding Bollywood, from its nepotistic nature to now an alleged drug abuse. The reporting of TV channels has also come under scanner, with many calling it insensitive and intrusive. In an interview Sinha, who has been critical about the TV news reportage around Bollywood over the last few months, said there was no negativity around the industry. “Just look at the TRPs of these TV channels. They don’t matter at all. The negativity is only on the TV news channels. Do you think the fans and admirers on the streets have started feeling any different? No.”

ven as he awaits the commencement of the final schedule of Ayan Mukerji's Brahmastra, Ranbir Kapoor is sifting through scripts to zero in on his future projects. It is learnt that the actor has been approached by the suits at Disney+Hotstar for an assassin drama. After Hrithik Roshan, Kapoor is the second superstar to be in talks with the platform for his digital debut. While Roshan has reportedly been offered an official adaptation of The Night Manager, the assassin drama is an original series developed by the streaming giant's content team. A source reveals, "The discussions began only a few weeks ago. Only if RK gives his nod, the team will begin the hunt for a director. The 10part series has been envisioned on a grand scale and will be shot across multiple countries. The show is not likely to go on floors soon as the multi-country shoot will be hard to pull off amid the current restrictions. Also, Ranbir Kapoor has allotted his dates to his next with Shraddha Kapoor that rolls in November."

Director Ram Gopal Varma has tweeted extending support to filmmaker Anurag Kashyap, who currently faces sexual harassment allegations from upcoming actress Payal Ghosh. "The @anuragkashyap72 i know is a highly sensitive and emotional person and I never ever saw or heard about him hurting anyone in all of the 20 years that I have known him ..So I frankly can't picture what's happening now," Varma tweeted on Monday. Varma's tweet comes at a time Kashyap has been named in #metoo allegation by "Patel Ki Punjabi Shaadi" actress Payal Ghosh. Ever since Payal levelled her charges, Kashyap has received support from several other Bollywood colleagues including filmmakers Hansal Mehta, Vasan Bala and Anubhav Sinha. His ex-wives Aarti Bajaj and Kalki Koechlin have stood by him.

Zendaya, who won an Emmy for HBO series Euphoria, is only the second Black actress to claim the lead drama actress award, following Viola Davis’ groundbreaking 2015 win for How To Get Away With Murder. Zendaya said her “heart was filled” when she saw her fellow nominees, including Jennifer Aniston, cheering on the Euphoria actress for becoming the youngest drama lead actress to win an Emmy. The 24-year-old Zendaya became emotional after she took home the trophy for her role in the HBO series, scoring one of the few long shot victories Sunday night. She is only the second Black actress to claim the lead drama actress award, following Viola Davis’ groundbreaking 2015 win for How To Get Away With Murder. Zendaya’s family and friends screamed, cheered, hugged and cried behind her as the stunned actress accepted the award in what appeared to be a hotel suite. “I usually don’t cry,” she said in a virtual backstage interview. “I got through it without letting it take over me. It was a very emotional moment. I still can’t believe it myself. It’s pretty crazy.” On Euphoria, Zendaya plays Rue Bennett, a teenage addict struggling with her sobriety and recovery on the series that delves into sex, drugs, trauma and identity among highschoolers.

Vitamin D levels in blood

n ageing men, free, circulating vitamin D levels in the blood can help in understanding and predicting the future health risks–suggest the findings of a recent study. The study also suggests the free, precursor form of vitamin D found circulating in the bloodstream is a more accurate predictor of future health and disease risk, than the often measured total vitamin D. Since vitamin D deficiency is associated with multiple serious health conditions as we get older, this study suggests that further investigation into vitamin D levels and their link to poor health may be a promising area for further research. Vitamin D deficiency is common in Europe, especially in elderly people. It

has been associated with a higher risk for developing many ageing-related diseases, such as cardiovascular disease, cancer and osteoporosis. However, there are several forms, or metabolites, of vitamin D in the body but it is the total amount of these metabolites that are most often used to assess the vitamin D status of people. However, only free 25-hydroxyvitamin D was predictive of future health problems and not free 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D. Dr Antonio explains, “These data further confirm that vitamin D deficiency is associated with a negative impact on general health and can be predictive of a higher risk of death.”

India’s big bicycle boom

B

icycling has boomed in India, with brands, stores, and manufacturers reporting a surge in demand. “Highend bikes (above Rs.20,000) have reached a 300% demand, up from last year’s 5-10% hike around the same time,” says Gaurav Wadhwa, whose family has been in the cycle business in Delhi for 55 years, and now owns four shops across segments in Delhi, with a bike ‘clinic’ as well. His brother Vivek, who handles their mass market and mid-range (also called semi-premium) bikes, says in these segments, where about 70% of the business was from older teens (15-19), today it is about 50%. The Smart Cities Mission that recently launched the India Cycles4Change Challenge to introduce “quick interventions and promotional activities to encourage cycling”, must really listen to him and to so many who want to step out, but are simply too scared of the consequences. An openness to cycling, in what is now an all-India phenomenon, cutting across ages, livelihoods, and the rural-urban divide. In a post-lockdown world, with the COVID-19 pandemic still on, people are testing the waters with a commute, some are turning to it for adventure, while many are looking at it as a fitness activity that can also be done with family or a group of friends, while maintaining physical distance.

roccoli, Brussels sprouts and cabbage can be counted as some of the most beneficial when it comes to preventing advanced blood vessel disease, suggests new research. The research published in the British Journal of Nutrition has found higher consumption of cruciferous vegetables, such as broccoli, Brussels sprouts and cabbage, is associated with less extensive blood vessel disease in older women. Using data from a cohort of 684 older Western Australian women recruited in 1998, researchers from ECU’s School of Medical and Health Sciences and The University of Western Australia found those with a diet comprising more cruciferous vegetables had a lower chance of having extensive build-up of calcium on their aorta, a key marker f or s t r u c tu r a l blood vessel disease. Is sleep now a commodity?

There are mattresses, apps, supplements, masks, teas, essential oils: all promising good sleep. But are we buying them without examining the root cause of the problem?

O

ver the years, in an adrenaline-high world that runs on stimulants (coffee, cigarettes, stress) and the boast of ‘burning the midnight oil’, we have found the need to advocate for sleep. It gives our bodies time to repair, our brains the rest to consolidate memory, and our hormones the chance to regulate themselves, affecting hunger and circadian rhythms (our natural body clock). A lack of sleep is the reason those on a night shift feel a greater need for junk and oil-laden food. It is the body desperately trying to cope with a situation that is not natural to it. Increasingly, people are understanding the importance of a good night’s rest. Riding on any self-awareness movement though, is marketing, pushing the message ahead with a momentum that only money can buy. To some extent it is the resources sunk into a health message that takes it to everyone, but it also convinces us to buy into products that purportedly aid in the endeavour. There are mattresses, apps, supplements, white noise machines, masks, teas, essential oils, ear plugs, nose clips, anti-snore chin straps, and more — all promise help. There is nothing wrong with most of the products marketed around rest, except for certain creams and sprays, the ingredients of which you may want to read on the back of the pack.

is a condition that affects our blood vessels (arteries and veins) and can reduce the flow of blood circulating around the body. This reduction in blood flow can be due to the build-up of fatty, calcium deposits on the inner walls of our blood vessels, such as the aorta. This build-up of fatty, calcium deposits is the leading cause of having a heart attack or stroke. The Heart Foundation recommends that Australians try to include at least five serves of vegetables in their daily diets, along with fruit, seafood, lean meats, dairy and healthy oils found in nuts and seeds. Unfortunately, over 90 percent of Australian adults don’t eat this recommended daily intake of vegetables,

‘Yoga in burqa’: Uttarakhand boxer girl fights all odds to teach yoga to women

The initiative was not an easy one to start as she and the other women had to face all sorts of odds including criticism from some members of the community and lewd comments from local boys. A 17-year-old boxer, Rehnuma Mikrani, is kicking all odds one punch at a time to teach yoga to about 40 women of her community in Haldwani town of Nainital district. Hailing from a humble family background, Rehnuma is the daughter of an autorickshaw driving father and a mother who works at a local Anganwadi centre. A statelevel boxer, Rehnuma decided to teach yoga and other exercises to the women in her community about one and a half month ago during the lockdown. She began by teaching yoga to four women and now has a batch of around forty women of her community who come together every morning in the local playground. However, the initiative was not an easy one to start as she and the other women had to face all sorts of odds including criticism from some members of the community and lewd comments from local boys. Rehnuma, who has been training at Sports Authority of India’s day-boarding extension centre for boxing in Uttarakhand’s Pithoragarh district, said, “It all started in July when my mother and few other women asked me to teach them yoga and other exercises as being a sportsperson, I was trained in such things.” The small group then started gathering early at 5.30 am to practise yoga and other exercises till 7-7.30 am.

Shantanu and Nikhil’s new collection

A befitting response to the current scenario that we all are into, Shantanu & Nikhil’s fashion film titled Resurgence at the ongoing India Couture Week, presented by the Fashion Design Council of India in association with Hindustan Times, instilled that hope in their patrons that life will be back to normalcy. The collection redefined the neo-luxe bride, with its contemporary silhouettes, drapes and abundant usage of metallic gold. Their title Resurgence aptly puts into perspective a new era that we all are entering into while fighting all odds. Shantanu & Nikhil as a label, has established an aesthetic that is easily recognisable and

that’s what makes the brand so strong. What stood out the most in this outing were metallic influences, goth appliques and zardozi work seen on the gowns and dresses. Striking blacks, whispering greys and evocative reds set the tone and tenor of this note-worthy lineup. Signature draped kurtas for men find a new companion in the structured bandhgalas and sherwanis. The models epitomised powerful Grecian goddesses in the dramatic skirts. Gold and silver hand harness used in styling the look signified the inner power and strength that a S&N bride represents.

t Glamour’s 2015 Women of the Year Awards, actor Reese Witherspoon gave a powerful speech on women, roles written for them, and the absolute dissonance between depiction and reality. ‘”What do we do now?!” Seriously, I’m not kidding. Go back and watch any movie, and you’ll see this line over and over. I love to ask questions, but it’s my most hated question. I dread reading scripts that have no women involved in their creation because inevitably I get to that part where the girl turns to the guy, and she says, “What do we do now?!” Do you know any woman in any crisis situation who has absolutely no idea what to do? I mean, don’t they tell people in crisis, even children, “If you’re in trouble, talk to a woman.” It’s ridiculous that a woman wouldn’t know what to do,” she said. Recalling her journey to backing films herself for a better and fairer representation of women, she concluded the speech saying, “I urge each one of you to ask yourselves: What do we do now? That’s a big question. What is it in life that you think you can’t accomplish? Or what is it that people have said that you cannot do? Wouldn’t it feel really good to prove them all wrong? Because I believe ambition is not a dirty word. It’s just believing in yourself and your abilities. Imagine this: What would happen if we were all brave enough to be a little bit more ambitious? I think the world would change.”

Sony WH-1000XM4 headphone

/hiindialive

/hiindiaNews

Sony has finally unleashed what can be called its benchmark headphone of the year, the WH-1000XM4.

Design and build:

If you are familiar with how the WH-1000XM3 looks, the 1000XM4 might not seem interesting at all. The changes on the outside are so minimal that if you keep them next to each other, you might not be able to tell the difference. Only the eagle-eyed will notice that the NFC logo is engraved this time on the outside. The look is a tad-bit stealthier with a more muted matte finish this time around. However, the use of hard plastic is still there (works well for the weight) along with increased padding. Even the headband structure is wider for more comfortable wear.

Features and performance

This time the WH-1000XM4 is smarter and more feature-rich. One of the fancier features is the Speak-to-Chat that auto senses when you’re talking and stops the music, without needing you take off the headphones. You can enable it from the app and you can also customise the time span after which the song playback should be resumed. By default, it is set to 30 seconds but you get the 15 seconds, 1 minute and ‘Does not close automatically’ options. This surprisingly works well and is pretty accurate.

With this product lineup, the Taiwanese tech giant has entered the business segment which offers laptops, desktops, all-inones, and mobile workstations. Asus unveiled its Expertbook series in a live-streamed event today via its Youtube channel. With this product lineup, the Taiwanese tech giant has entered the business segment which offers laptops, desktops, all-in-ones, and mobile workstations. The press release by Asus last month said, “catering to businesses of all sizes, including microsbusiness, SMBs and large enterprise customers with its varied portfolio.” One of the highlights of the event was the Asus Expertbook B9. The notebook weighs just 870 grams and

WatchOut Wearables Madgaze smartwatch

Madgaze is the fourth device from the Mumbai-based startup. The watch is fully assembled in India and looks like most of the other Android smartwatches I have tried over the years. However, the hard to ignore part is the size of the watch, especially being an Apple Watch user. Let me put it this way: people will know you have invested in a smartwatch. The really interesting feature, however, is the gesture controls. These are accessed on the Mad Gaze controller app which needs to be switched on to start. Once this has been set up, you can customise the watch to recognise taps on different parts of the hand, and some gestures like snapping the finger to trigger other actions like playing music. While this is innovative, for me it took a lot of thinking, and planning, to use this option. But it will be of value when you are able to use this to power other things, like changing slides during a presentation.

Xiaomi sells phones out of a van to expand reach in India

Amazon in-stock alerts are trolling Gmail can now be set as the people with $5,000 RTX 3080 default iOS 14 email app graphics cards

Sellers are re-listing the out-of-stock item at exorbitant prices Nvidia’s RTX 3080 launch last week was a total mess, one Nvidia is still navigating the fallout from following its public apology earlier today. The aftermath of the graphics cards selling out in a matter of minutes at pretty much every major US retailer is that the limited supply that does still exist is being hawked on third-party seller sites in increasingly obnoxious fashions. That includes Amazon Marketplace sellers, which are now notifying interested buyers of available units at prices as exorbitant as $5,000 per card. This isn’t a failure of Amazon so much as it is an act of trolling and exploitation on behalf of the third-party Amazon sellers, some of which are abusing the notification system built into the e-commerce platform. Typically, Amazon users can set alerts for certain products listed as currently unavailable by clicking the “email me” option on the product page. But if the seller happens to re-list a product, like this random seller Sports Authentics listing PNY’s version of the RTX 3080, as available even at a ridiculous price like $2,999, an Amazon email will arrive in your inbox informing you of the “deal.”

Google just released the official update to Gmail, allowing it to be set as the default email application for iOS 14 devices. iOS 14 — which was released by Apple last week — added the option for users to set third-party email applications as the default for iPhone and iPad devices running the latest version of Apple’s operating system. But it still fell to developers to actually add support for the feature, which the latest Gmail update does. Once you’ve installed the latest update, simply head to the Settings app on iOS, select the “Gmail” menu, and find the newly added “Default Mail App” menu. Google also says that the Gmail app should prompt users with instructions once they’ve updated. It’s important to note that iOS appears to have a bug that automatically switches third-party browser and email applications back to Apple’s default Mail and Safari after a restart; Apple has yet to comment on the issue or announce when (or if) it’ll be addressed.

Xiaomi Corp plans to reach out to rural Indian consumers via a Mi Store on Wheels, hoping to sell smartphones to the remotest parts of the country at a time of growing anti-Chinese sentiment. India’s top-selling smartphone brand is starting a traveling store, which will cover a specific route and stop in places where rural Indians gather for their weekly haats, or street fairs. The pilot will also sell smart TVs, CCTV cameras, earphones, sunglasses, and power banks, Xiaomi said in a release Monday. Xiaomi is just one of several brands that are taking their products directly to customers to make up for a lack of traffic in stores during the pandemic and the ensuing lockdowns. The Chinese smartphone maker held onto its top position in India’s smartphone market for the June quarter, even as smartphone shipments halved and tensions between Delhi and Beijing led to a growing backlash against Chinese brands.

Man Loses Surfboard In Hawaii. It Reappears 8,000 Km Away In Philippines

773.526.8353 FRIDAY, SEMPTEMBER 25, 2020

23

An Early Morning Phone Call For Amartya Sen. He Thought It Was Bad News But... "My first thought was that something terribly tragic must have happened," said Amartya Sen.

When big wave surfer Doug Falter lost his board in a wipeout in Hawaii, his best hope was for a local fisherman to pick it up. He never imagined it would be found more than 8,000 kilometres (5,000 miles) away in the southern Philippines. More than two years after watching his pale blue custom-shaped board disappear in the huge swell of Waimea Bay, Falter was alerted via social media that it had been found near the remote island of Sarangani. And the new owner -- local primary school teacher and aspiring surfer Giovanne Branzuela -- was happy to give it back to him. "When I saw the picture of it, I couldn't believe it, I thought it was a joke almost," Falter, 35, told AFP via Zoom. "I was certain that the board would never be found again." Branzuela, who bought the badly weathered surfboard from his neighbour a couple of months ago for 2,000 pesos ($40), said fishermen had found it floating in the sea in August 2018 -- six months after Falter lost sight of it. They thought it may have fallen off a passing yacht and sold it to Branzuela's neighbour for a few dollars. Despite months drifting across the Pacific Ocean, the name of the board's shaper, Hawaii-based Lyle Carlson, was still visible on the now-yellowish surface. Curious, Branzuela looked him up on Facebook and sent him a photo of the board.

Amartya Sen took a trip down memory lane as he remembered the day he received news of his big Nobel win. At 5 AM on October 14, 1998, Mr Sen received a phone call. The early morning call made him think that something bad had happened. "My first thought was that something terribly tragic must have happened," he was quoted as saying by the Nobel Prize organisation in an Instagram post shared a few hours ago. "Somebody has turned ill or you know something worst than that," he said. His initial reaction, therefore, was one of relief when he learned that it wasn't bad news - it was the academy calling to inform him that he had been awarded

the prestigious Nobel Memorial Prize in Economic Sciences. "Around 5 AM on 14 October 1998 Amartya Sen's telephone rang. He was worried and fairly sure that something tragic had happened. But after the news sank in, Sen felt that 'it was a good piece of news' and started the day with a cup of coffee," the Nobel Prize team said in their Instagram post, urging followers to "stay tuned to find out who will be receiving the phone call this year". It is not the first time that the Nobel Prize organisation has documented the life of Mr Sen on social media. In June this year, they also wrote about the bicycle that helped him win the Nobel Prize.

Thai MP Caught Looking At Porn On His Phone In Parliament

Ronnathep Anuwat will not face any action.

A member of the Parliament in Thailand was left red-faced after he was caught looking at pornographic images on his smartphone. Ronnathep Anuwat was supposed to be paying attention to a budget reading when shocked reporters spotted him scrolling through explicit images on his phone, reports the Daily Mail. The politician reportedly spent around 10 minutes viewing the images on his phone on

Wednesday evening. The whole thing was caught on camera by reporters sitting in the gallery of the parliament in Bangkok. The reporters snapped pictures of the MP, who represents Chonburi province for ruling military Palang Pracharath Party, which have gone viral on social media. Some pictures even show Mr Anuwat removing his face mask to get a better look at the NSFW images on his smartphone.

This Blue Snake Is As Dangerous As It Is Beautiful

There aren't many blue snakes in the world, and their rare colouring makes them objects of fascination. One such snake - a blue pit viper - currently has social media's attention. A video of the bright blue snake has gone viral on social media, with thousands of people commenting on its beauty. The blue snake, sitting on a red rose, makes for a striking image in this video which surfaced online recently. The blue pit viper, however, is not as harmless as it looks. It is, in fact, a deadly snake whose venom can cause severe bleeding, both internally and externally. According to the Moscow Zoo, the snakes are the blue variety of the white-lipped island pit viper - a venomous pit viper subspecies found in Indonesia and East Timor.

Senate Confirms Appointment of Prosecutor Diane Gujarati for District Judge Position in NY BY A STAFF WRITER NEW YORK, NY -The Senate has confirmed unanimously the appointment of Diane Gujarati for a district judge position in New York. Gujarati, an Indian American prosecutor with decades of experience in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York, was confirmed Sept. 10 as the newest district judge in the Eastern District of New York. The U.S. Senate voted 99-0 in favor of confirming Gujarati. The Senate Judiciary Committee June 27 advanced the nomination of Gujarati for the post (see India-West article here: https://bit.ly/2Zy428y). Initially announced last May as President Donald Trump’s 14th wave of judicial nominees, the slate of nominees cleared the Judiciary Committee in September but did not receive a confirmation vote in the full Senate before the end of the last Congress. Trump re-nominated the prospective judges in April. Gujarati, of New York, is the daughter of an Indian father and Jewish mother. The attorney has been nominated by the president to serve as a district judge on the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of New York. Gujarati is deputy chief of the criminal division of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New

York, where she has served as an assistant United States attorney for the past 19 years. She has also served as an adjunct professor of clinical law at New York University School of Law until earlier this year. Before joining the U.S. Attorney’s Office, Gujarati practiced for three years as a litigation associate in the New York City office of Davis Polk & Wardwell, LLP, her bio notes. Upon graduation from law school, Gujarati served as a law clerk to Judge John M. Walker Jr. of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Gujarati had previously been nominated by former President Barack Obama to the same post for which Trump nominated

her for April 8. Obama, at the time, said, “I am pleased to nominate Diane Gujarati to serve on the United States District Court bench,” said Obama (see India-West article here: https://bit.ly/2WXQZtj). “I am confident she will serve the American people with distinction.” The Indian American’s nomination from Obama expired in early 2017 and then Trump in May 2018 nominated her again for the same post. The seat for which Gujarati has been nominated covers parts of the city as well the suburbs on Long Island. The nomination by Trump shows both her legal standing as well as the administration’s difficulty in finding candidates within its ideological spectrum who will be able to win Senate support, according to a news release at the time of Trump’s initial nomination. Three vacancies remain in the Eastern District following Gujarati’s confirmation, and all have active nominees, according to Law.com. The nominees are Hector Gonzalez, a partner at Dechert; Saritha Komatireddy, deputy chief of general crimes in the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Eastern District of New York; and David C. Woll Jr., a principal deputy assistant secretary for community planning and development in the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development.

to encourage legislative priorities in the coming year,” she added. “The Mini Convention is forum to network, share knowledge and thoughts, and thus, enrich one another, and rededicate for the health and wellbeing of all the peoples of the world,” Dr. Ravi Kolli, Vice President of AAPI, said, “The Convention also features and will honor the “Best Mask; Best Obesity; and, Best Monument Picture,” he added. A dedicated pool of Physicians led by Dr. Meher Medavaram, Convention, Cahir, has been working hard to make the convention a memorable experience for all. Dr. Amit Chakrabarty, Secretary of AAPI said. “The Mehfil/AAPI Talent Show will provide a perfect setting for the AAPI delegates to display their talents. The extravaganza mouthwatering ethnic cuisine with every day “Theme Menus” with variety of display of best of the culinary art will be a treat for the young and the old.” “The convention offers a variety of ways to reach physicians and their families. It provides access to hundreds of health professionals who are leaders and decision-makers regarding new products and services, as wells as to national and international health policy advisors,” Dr. Satish Kathula, Treasurer of AAPI, says. Given that a physician of Indian origin sees every 7th patient in this country and every 5th patient in rural and inner cities across the nation, the reach and influence of AAPI members goes well beyond the Convention. “Physicians and healthcare professionals from across the country and internationally will convene and participate in the scholarly exchange of medical advances, to develop health policy agendas, and to encourage legislative priorities in the coming year. We look forward to meeting with you all in Chicago!” said Dr. Sudhakar Jonnalagadda. For more details, and sponsorship opportunities, please visit: www.aapiconvention.org and www. aapiusa.org

Police Officer Suspended for Holding Indian American Doctor at Gunpoint on Own Driveway

Dr. P.J.Parmar

BY A STAFF WRITER AURORA, CO- A police officer has been suspended after video emerged of him brandishing his gun at a Indian American doctor parking on his own driveway in Colorado. An Aurora Police Department spokesperson said Officer Justin Henderson was suspended for 40 hours without pay and ordered to attend deescalation training for his March 1 confrontation with Dr. P.J. Parmar, Parmar, who has said he believes his race affected how he was treated, said he was disappointed with the punishment. In the video, Henderson walks to Parmar’s car, says “Let me see your (expletive) hands. What are you doing?” and orders him to stay in the car. Parmar is heard explaining that he owns the property and telling Henderson to leave. Parmar then gets out, walks around to a door on one side of the building, punches in a security code and goes inside. The Aurora Police Department has now sent Parmar a letter informing him the officer was being suspended for 40 hours and was also being ordered to receive additional training.

Warning about ‘Mega Millions’ Lottery Scam Issued by Pennsylvania Lottery Officials BY A STAFF WRITER P H I L A D E L P H I A , PA - T h e Pennsylvania Lottery is warning residents to be cautious of a recent Mega Millions scam in which scammers make contact over the phone. A lottery scam that originated in Jamaica was recently reported to the Pennsylvania Lottery. Lottery officials are urging Pennsylvanians to be cautious of the scam that is being perpetrated over the phone by someone with a Caribbean accent. The scammer tells the person they have won a fictitious Mega Millions sweepstakes or a prize from another lottery game with a well-known name, according to the Pennsylvania Lottery. “The criminal encourages the victim to make a payment for taxes or other costs to facilitate the processing of their prize, but the prize is never paid.” Pennsylvania Lotter y Executive Director Drew Svitko said in a news release, “Unfortunately, these types of scams are quite common — especially during times of crisis, such as a pandemic, when people may be vulnerable. “It’s important to know that the Pennsylvania Lottery will only contact players if they won a Second-Chance Drawing, a giveaway into which a player may have submitted an entry, or to collect their winning story. We never call or email people at random.” According to the Pennsylvania Lottery, scammers sometimes find the names of actual lottery employees using the Internet

then use those names and a “badge number” or other “made-up information. “They’ll also use the names of real lotteries and lottery games, including multistate games like Mega Millions. Many scam operators are located offshore, beyond the reach of U.S. law enforcement. Scammers will often set up fake websites and telephone switchboards to hide their whereabouts, creating a ‘spoofed’ phone number which makes it appear on a caller ID display that a call is coming from a real entity or a U.S. area code. The Pennsylvania Lottery says the following also are signs of a scam: 4If you are told to buy a pre-paid debit card to pay an up-front “processing fee” or taxes – this is a major hallmark of a scam. 4If you are asked for personal financial information, such as bank account routing

numbers. 4If you’re told the supposed prize is in pounds, euros, or anything other than dollars. 4If an email contains poor grammar or misspellings, or if a caller states they are — or sounds as if they could be — calling from outside the United States. 4If you are instructed to keep the news of your supposed “win” a secret. If you are told that you can “verify” the prize by calling a certain number. That number may be part of the scam. Instead of calling it, look up the lottery or organization on your own to find out its real contact information, then call and ask to speak with security. Lottery players who received suspicious calls are asked to report them to lottery officials.

BY A STAFF WRITER NEW YORK, NY - Roughly 44 percent of New Yorkers reported feeling anxiety over the coronavirus and 36 percent said they felt depressed, a new study found. The study — “Impact of COVID-19 on mental health in New York City” — released by the city’s health department Tuesday only covers the pandemic months from March to June. But its surveys show widespread mental health risk factors associated with the pandemic. “People in this city have been through so much stress and trauma, and what they’re sharing reflects the difficulty of these recent months,” said Dave Chokshi, the city’s health commissioner, in a statement. “There are resources available for New Yorkers feeling stress and anxiety, including the helpline, NYC Well. For anyone who needs support, we recommend you reach out, talk to someone and connect. We are here for you.” The report’s release coincides with Suicide Prevention Month. There were 261 suicide deaths in the city during the first half of the year, fewer than the 270 over the same time last year. Officials noted the numbers were provisional and could be revised. Their report also noted differences in the stresses facing various groups of New Yorkers. Latinx and Asian city dwellers were more likely to report job losses or reduced hours than white residents, according to the report. And 53 percent of Latinx adults reported feelings of financial stress, compared to 40 percent of white New Yorkers, the report states. More New Yorkers contacted the city’s free behavioral health support service NYC Well so far this year than the same period in 2019, according to the report. New Yorkers who need mental health help can call 888-NYC-WELL (888-692-9355), text “WELL” to 65173 or chat online and nyc.gov/ nycwell.

Oakton to Launch State’s First Community College Public Health Contact Tracer Certificate Program BY A STAFF WRITER DES PLAINES, IL – Oakton Community College is once again responding to the call for the need for trained workers to limit the spread of COVID-19 by launching the Public Health Contact Tracer Certificate program. The program will quickly prepare students to monitor the contacts of infected people and notify them of their exposure. Courses start Oct. 20. Oakton is the first community college in Illinois to offer a credit-based program in this field. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) indicates contact tracing is key to slowing or stopping the spread of COVID-19. The practice is credited for helping to end previous pandemics including the SARS and Ebola outbreaks. This innovative 13-credit hour certificate program prepares students to identify, interview and provide instructions to individuals impacted by COVID-19. In addition, the program will offer training to link individuals with symptoms to community resources for testing and care. Students will acquire skills in communication, counseling/ interviewing and foundational knowledge for implementing contact tracing tools

and systems. All courses in the program can be completed online and include: Introduction to Public Health Contact Tracing, Public Health and Disease, Introduction to Public Health Communications, Disease Tracing Organization and Management, Counseling and Interviewing, Electronic Spreadsheeting Using Excel and Database Applications Using Access. Public health departments nationwide,

according to a recent NPR state survey and tracking effort, now employ an estimated 37,000 contact tracers. However, researchers estimate a minimum of 100,000 additional contact tracers are needed. “Oakton is proud to be at the forefront of innovation by offering a certificate program to assist in ending a global health crisis,” Maribel Alimboyoguen, assistant dean of health careers, said. According to Indeed.com, contact tracers around the nation earn an average of $20.83 per hour, with some jobs paying more than $25 per hour. In May 2020, Oakton launched a Public Health Contact Tracer Paraprofessional training program as a noncredit Continuing Education, Training and Workforce Development course. While the College is currently not accepting applicants for this noncredit course, those who completed the course can apply credit toward the new certificate. New students can complete the general admission application to begin the enrollment process. For more information about the Public Health Contact Tracer Certificate, contact healthcontacttracer@ oakton.edu or call (847) 376-7616.

Sheridan City Council in Colorado to Open with Hindu Mantras BY A STAFF WRITER Hindu prayer will open the meeting of Sheridan City Council (Colorado) on September 28, containing verses from world’s oldest extant scripture. Distinguished Hindu statesman Rajan Zed will deliver the invocation from ancient Sanskrit scriptures via Zoom before Sheridan City Council. After Sanskrit delivery, he then will read the English interpretation of the prayers. Sanskrit is considered a sacred language in Hinduism and root language of Indo-European languages. Zed, who is the President of Universal Society of Hinduism, will recite from RigVeda, the oldest scripture of the world still in common use; besides lines from Upanishads and Bhagavad-Gita (Song of the Lord), both ancient Hindu scriptures. He plans to start and end the prayer with “Om”, the mystical syllable containing

the universe, which in Hinduism is used to introduce and conclude religious work. Hinduism, oldest and third largest religion of the world, has about 1.1 billion adherents and moksh (liberation) is its ultimate goal. There are about three million Hindus in USA.

Founded in 1890, City of Sheridan, in Denver metro area, is a Home Rule Municipality; and was the setting for a science fiction western television series Legend, which ran in 1995. Tara BeiterFluhr and Devin Granbery are Mayor and City Manager respectively.

It also clarifies when a petitioner may rely upon “comparable evidence” to meet the requirements for certain O-1 beneficiaries. USCIS is also incorporating existing guidance relating to certain nonimmigrant athletes, coaches and entertainers (otherwise known as the P-1, P-2, and P-3 nonimmigrant classifications), and their essential support personnel into the Policy Manual. BY A STAFF WRITER NEW YORK, NY — Rising coronavirus cases across the country prompted a troubling update to New York’s list of quarantine states. Five more states — Arizona, Minnesota, Nevada, Rhode Island and Wyoming — have been added to the travel advisory, Gov. Andrew Cuomo announced Tuesday. “For a clear example of the continuing extent of the COVID crisis in America, look no further than New York’s travel advisory list,” Cuomo said in a statement. “The virus’ spread across the country— new cases have increased more than 15 percent in the last 10 days—makes it all the more urgent that we stay vigilant here at home.” Travelers from those states must quarantine The quarantine applies to any person arriving from an area with a positive test rate higher than 10 per 100,000 residents over a 7-day rolling average or an area with a 10 percent or higher positivity rate over a 7-day rolling average. Governor Cuomo said. “That’s why New Yorkers need to continue wearing masks, socially distancing and washing their hands in conjunction with the careful enforcement of local governments. We can defeat this virus by staying New York Tough, but we have a long way to go.” Travelers from the now-35 states on the list must quarantine for 14 days after arriving in New York City. The quarantine applies to people arriving from areas with a positive test rate higher than 10 per 100,000 residents over a seven-day rolling average or an area with a 10 percent or higher positivity rate over a seven-day rolling average, according to the state’s guidance. New York has bounced back from its position as epicenter of the coronavirus crisis. The statewide positivity rate stood at 0.89 percent on Monday, officials said.
