The shooter, identified as 18-yearold Timothy George Simpkins, fled and is at large.

An 18-year-old opened fire inside a Dallas-area high school, leaving four people injured before fleeing, authorities said on Wednesday.

The shooting took place at the Timberview High School in Arlington, which is part of the school district in Mansfield in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. Mansfield’s mayor, Michael Evans, said on Wednesday that there were no reports of fatalities.

Authorities said at a news conference that the shooting took place after a fight broke out in the school. The police were searching for the suspected shooter, whom they identified as Timothy George Simpkins. They said he might be driving a 2018 Silver Dodge Charger with licence plate PFY6260.

Arlington assistant police chief Kevin Kolbye said two of the four injured people were shot. Three of the four were taken to hospitals and the other person refused treatment.

It was not immediately clear whether the injured people were students or employees, he said.

HiIndia Newsdesk In a surprise military shake-up, the Pakistan Army on Wednesday announced that the spy agency ISI chief Lieutenant General Faiz Hameed has been appointed as Peshawar Corps commander — a crucial position in view of the Taliban’s takeover in Afghanistan.

Lieutenant General Nadeem Anjum was appointed as the new director-general of Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) in place of Hameed, according to the InterServices Public Relations (ISPR) — the media wing of the Pakistan Army. The ISI chief is appointed by the Prime Minister but as part of a tradition he executes this power in consultation with the Pakistan Army chief. The post is considered one of the most important in the army which has ruled Pakistan for more than half of its 73 years of existence and has wielded considerable power in matters of security and foreign policy. Initially, the army said in a statement that Hameed was posted out but his replacement on the key post of the ISI chief was not immediately announced.

The ICIJ found that the documents were linked to more than 330 politicians and public officials, including 35 current and former national leaders, in more than 91 countries and territories. “The records include information about the dealings of nearly three times as many current and former country leaders as any previous leak of documents from offshore havens,” the ICIJ wrote on its website.

SaaS Company Freshworks Valued at $10 Billion in IPO Led by Indian American HiIndia Newsdesk S A N M AT E O, C A- S a n Mat e o, California-based Freshworks, a rival of Salesforce, launched its initial public offering Sept. 22 in New York, with a value of more than $10 billion.

CNN Business reports that the company, founded in Chennai in 2010, said it has priced 28.5 million shares of common stock at $36 each, raising a little over $1 billion in its IPO in New York.

The company noted that its shares would start trading on the Nasdaq under the stock ticker FRSH. The company is India’s best-known software-as-a-service, or SaaS, firm, and it joins a string of other high-profile startups from the country that have gone public or announced intentions to go public this year, the report said.

Freshworks provides software to help businesses manage relations with their customers, according to the company.

More Counterfeit COVID Vaccination Cards Seized

by Chicago CBP HiIndia Newsdesk CHICAGO, IL — For the second time in September, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers working at the International Mail Facility at Chicago O’Hare once again seized counterfeit COVID-19 vaccination cards.

Two separate parcels, both arriving from China, were inspected by CBP to determine the admissibility of the items. The packages were labeled that they contained greeting cards, but once officers inspected the packages, they found 21 counterfeit COVID-19 vaccination cards in one package and 20 counterfeit COVID-19 vaccination cards in the other. The cards closely resembled the authentic Center for Disease Control (CDC) certificates provided by healthcare practitioners when administering the COVID vaccine.

The cards appeared to be fraudulent due to their low-quality appearance and other discrepancies. The FBI has warned the public that buying, selling, or using counterfeit COVID-19 vaccination cards endangers and places others at risk, and breaks our nation’s laws.

SaaS companies provide web-based applications that take care of everything

from how secure the software is to how well it performs, the CNN report notes.

Investors have begun to pump money into Indian SaaS companies, as they believe that they could be the country’s next big thing in tech, the report said.

The majority of Indian SaaS companies serve international clients — Freshworks’ first client was in Australia. The company has raised funds from investors such as Tiger Global and Accel, and has more than 50,000 customers.

“We weren’t founded in Silicon Valley. We didn’t target large enterprises. We didn’t have access to a been-there-done-that talent pool,” said Girish Mathrubootham, CEO and founder of Freshworks, in the company’s IPO filing. “I’m very proud that Freshworks is a pioneer of Indian entrepreneurship, and of our ability to blend the art of Indian design with the science of Silicon Valley scaling,” Mathrubootham added in the report.

Sikh Gas Station Employee Shot and Dead

HiIndia Newsdesk L Y N N W O O D , WA — T h e Snohomish County Sheriff ’s Office is investigating after a gas station employee was shot and killed the morning of Sept. 26.

The shooting happened around 5:40 a.m. at a Chevron gas station near the intersection of 148th Street and state Highway 99 in unincorporated Lynnwood, as per the report.

The sheriff ’s office said the suspect entered the store and shot the employee working inside. The employee was pronounced dead at the scene.

The employee, identified Sept. 27 as Tejpal Singh, 60, of Snohomish, died at the scene of a gunshot wound, according to the county medical examiner.

Detectives believe the suspect was attempting to rob the gas station. The sheriff ’s office said the suspect fled the scene after the shooting.

Anyone with information or who can identify the suspect is asked to call 911.

The winning ticket was bought on Indian expatriate Naheel Nizamudeen's name in the Big Ticket Lottery, Abu Dhabi, the Khaleej Times reported.

Nizamudeen, who hails from Kerala, could not be reached since Sunday evening and the lottery organisers had to contact his parents in India to deliver the news of the mega prize.

In the lottery application, Naheel had given his Indian number which was not active. However, he had also given the alternate number of his parents, which was how the organisers contacted him.

Water Resources Minister Anil Kumar Yadav said they were following up with the Ministry of Jal Shakti to get

the pending bills cleared on time. The bills have to be approved by Polavaram Project Authority (PPA) and Central Water Commission (CWC), before the Union Ministry of Finance (MoF) gives its clearance for payment. The Centre has so far reimbursed Rs 11,181.36 crore to the Andhra Pradesh government for the Polavaram project, including expenditure towards land acquisition and Relief and Rehabilitation (R&R), after according it the status of a ‘National Project’ from April 2014.

While construction of the Gap 3 dam – the only concrete component of the ECRF dam – is complete, officials said they will complete work on the lower cofferdam by November and begin work on the main ECRF dam once the flood waters recede. The deadline to complete the right and left main canals is June next year. Once the dam is ready, water will flow by gravity through the two main canals. The right bank canal will take water up to Visakhapatnam from where it would be pumped to Srikakulam in North Andhra. The left bank canal will take water to Prakasam barrage at Vijayawada, from where it will be pumped towards the Rayalaseema region.

HiIndia Newsdesk In an important judgment, the Telangana State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in Hyderabad has ordered the GMR Hyderabad International Airport Ltd (GHIAL) to pay Rs 5 lakh as compensation to a private citizen who met with an accident at the airport in 2014.

On September 10, 2014, the complainant Subroto Banerjee (48) had reached the Hyderabad airport to travel to Bengaluru.

As he proceeded to the departures section on an escalator, it slowed down and almost stopped mid-way with a jerk, resulting in passengers falling over each other. Banerjee, who is a top executive at a private company, claimed that the escalator then moved in the opposite

direction and as he fell down, others fell over him. He sustained multiple fractures, was bedridden for 75 days and was deprived of work. Besides the physical injuries, the incident also caused him mental pain and trauma, he informed the commission. Delivering its verdict seven years after the incident, the commission noted the absence of satisfactory evidence in GHIAL’s argument that overcrowding on the escalator had led to the incident.

It concluded that the incident took place due to malfunctioning of the escalator provided by the authorities for the use of passengers, who are consumers availing the airport’s services.

Though the GHIAL questioned the complainant’s version of the incident, claiming that the airport had deployed state-of-the-art technology and the escalators were subjected to regular maintenance, it admitted that the escalator had slowed down due to surfeit of passengers and came to a slow halt, which it claimed was an automatic safety feature meant to handle the rush. Against Banerjee’s claims for a compensation of Rs 50 lakh, the commission found it “just and reasonable” to allow Rs 5 lakh and Rs 10,000 towards costs incurred.
