Mel Gonzales: I believe it was in September 1980 when the first alumni association in North America got together. Brod Bado was involved from day one, not only in the Philippines, but in Los Angeles as well. I understand Brod Bado was attending a Filipino-American meeting, and there he met brods. Brod Bado was there when, after a long spell of no ongoing relationship, APOUSA invited APO-Philippines to its December 1980 convention at the Marriott Hotel at the Los Angeles international airport. Brod Bado led the Philippine delegation and delighted the opening banquet participants when he stood on a chair and led the singing of “Sing, everyone, sing.” During the formative years of APO-AA-Southern California as well as APO-AANorthern California and APO-AA-San Diego County, Brod Bado was there, serving as an inspiration for old and new friends bonding together after college and beyond the Philippine borders.
