Thus did National President (NP)-elect Magleo “Mel” Adriano end his acceptance speech during the Alpha Phi Omega International Philippines Incorporated Induction of Officers for the Development Year 2007-2009 held on June 30, 2007 at the Alegria, Manila Pavilion, City of Manila , Philippines . Adriano, Eta Chapter Batch 1969-C and Sigma and Omega chapters affiliate, is the 22nd National President of APO .

Adriano, a self-made successful businessman in the country’s prime electronics industry, urged all brothers and sisters in the Philippines as well as overseas to help his administration attain its programs and projects for the next two years. He thanked those who supported him and his entire Performance Team for their trust and confidence. The National President also expressed gratitude to those who did not support his candidacy for keeping democracy alive in the organization, but challenged them to render their utmost commitment and cooperation for the present administration.

“We need your support and cooperation for without it, we will not succeed in all of our endeavors for a better APO ,” said Adriano.

‘The Performance Team’ Adriano, along with his Performance Team, swept landslide victory during the elections at the 24th National Biennial Convention (NBC) in Tagaytay City last May 3 to 6, 2007 .

His Performance Team composed of Amelito “Bong” Cruz (Executive Vice President), Porfirio Elmer “Elmer” Reyes (Vice President for Alumni Affiars), Ismael ‘Isma” Pelayo (Vice President for Fraternity Affairs), Alma Sheilla “Rikki” Liquigan (Vice President for Sorority Affairs) were also inducted into office last Saturday.

Southern California: Alumni Chapter of APOGLA, South Bay and San Diego.

Granada Hills — Over 40 players joined the face-off between teams North and South to mark the debut of the Dr. Librado I. Ureta Service Cup, which was held at Knollwood Golf and Country Club on August 4-5, 2007. The more seasoned golfers from SFSV AA, NorCal AA and Central Valley AA represented Team North, led by its hole-out captain Bro. Cesar Garingan.

They were pitted against the so-called “second best” Team South of ace captain Bro. Tony Gomez, which was composed of players from San Diego AA, South Bay AA and GLA AA. The 2-day ala-Ryder Cup fairway challenge was capped in a combination of best ball and match play formats pairing the players in a tight contest of over 20 flights that ended up in a tie score of 15.5 points each team.

Greetings!

As you may probably know by now, I was elected as the new Regional Director for the Administrative Region of North America (ARNA), taking over the reins from Bro. Dan Maines, ARNA’s interim RD as ARNA underwent the process of organization. As you also know, I am the current President of the Alumni Council of North America (ACNA). In the past, much confusion and seemingly irreconcilable misunderstandings were spawned because of the existence of both organizations in North America. This state of events should neither be ongoing nor seen as a hardening of stands between one and the other. Let us see them, rather, as elements of one and the same Alpha Phi Omega, and the problems and confusion as mere challenges to surmount as we embark on a new direction and outlook for the coming years.

Difficult as the job of the interim ARNA RD was, we are not yet over the hump and my term as your regular RD does not, by any stretch, signal the end of the transition. On the contrary, we are very much into transition as we strive to convince the skeptical that our implementation of a new regime of governance in North America will and should and ought to accrue to the benefit of Alpha Phi Omega.

Before we finally move from transition into “regular” status, we need to work together, bearing in mind that all stakeholders in this endeavor are our brethren with only the best interests of Alpha Phi Omega in mind and that we can achieve more by working together rather than against each other. In this, it should be well to note that there are basic premises that we should recognize: (a) That we are all APO and we cannot afford to engage in hubris; we need to realize that we would not be here either as ACNA, AA or ARNA were it not for APO and, (b) That as APO, we are ruled by our CBL and all our acts should be ruled by the CBL; hence, any charter contrary to the APO CBL should be invalid insofar as it does not conform to the APO CBL, and should be amended accordingly.

Keeping these basic premises in mind, I call on all to partner with us to achieve our common goals in Alpha Phi Omega.

Tagaytay International Convention Center (TICC), the venue of the convention, was filled with campaign materials and political gimmickry that time, coupled with pressures and hot atmosphere brought about by politics. Adriano’s Performance Team defeated Dolfs Llorca’s Let’s DOLFS Team. Llorca is the Vice Chairman of the Board during Jimmy de Castro’s presidency.

‘Passing the Torch’ National President Mel Adriano formally accepted the torch of leadership from Jimmy De Castro, president of APO Philippines for the Development Year 2005-2007.

De Castro’ address stressed on gathering all APO to support Adriano administration. The Immediate Past President (IPP) expressed his confidence on the new leadership and further challenged the stewardship of Adriano to continue the programs and projects initiated during his term. Adriano is also part of De Castro’s admin, being the Regional Director of the National Capital Administrative Region (NCAR).

“The officers of the Development Year 2005-2007 thank you all, a lot, for your support,” De Castro said. “We urge you all also to support the incoming officers of our beloved organization,” he added.

‘A prestigious crowd’ A crowd of almost 300 APO men and women was attended

by Makati City Mayor Jejomar C. Binay and Makati City Councilor Armand Padilla, both from Eta Chapter. The mayor of the financial center of the country, himself, led the charging of duties of the new national officers. APO Comelec chairman Judge Jose Bautista of Alpha Delta introduced the election winners. Judge Alice Gutierrez of Alpha Eta officiated the induction of officers. Col. Bobby De Joya of Beta Sigma, was the official representative of Police Director Brod Jess Verzosa, president of APO Lawman.

Emceed by Brother Edmund Datuin of Gamma Epsilon and Sister Syl Ilao of Epsilon, the night also gathered past presidents of APO Philippines like Mike Lalanto, Rod Mapoy, Chato Mariñas and other esteemed APO personalities.

After the induction of national officers, newly-inducted Chairman of the Board Egay Llarena and Director for Alumni Affairs Lemuel Espinosa inducted into office all the Regional officers in attendance.

Other events during the night include raffles, fellowship/ dance party and performance of the band Orange and Lemons.

APO District of Columbia Alumni Association

APODCAA members continue their efforts to propagate the three Cardinal Principles of Leadership, Friendship, and Service.

On April 8, 2007, members and their families joined to celebrate the Easter Sunday with their children. Although the weather was somewhat cold and breezy, ingenuity came to the fore. Fortunately, Brother Bennie Domingo, Alpha’77, was gracious enough to host this months scheduled GMM in conjunction with APODCAA’s Easter Sunday, Egg Hunt, celebration. Members quickly improvised to allow the children enjoy their egg hunt adventure in brother Bennie’s huge mansion, garage included. It was an enjoyable day, after all, for the children especially.

Continuing with their tradition of supporting local charities, APODCAA came en masse to support this years Hands-on-DC on April 28, 2007. Over a dozen members and just about the same number of APO Kids helped refurbish and paint Cardozo High School in Southeast D.C. Truly a heartwarming sight to see the excitement in the faces of these APO Kids while painting other kids school. Having supported this noble Service project, Hands-onDC, for the past five years proved to be a blessing for us. The team leader assigned to our school was so impressed at how the members

carried out their assigned tasks in such an efficient fashion, he ended up asking APODCAA to double-up and paint another portion of the school, which was originally assigned to another group.

Meanwhile, all along, our illustrious 1st Vice President, Brother Anthony Busog, Eta Kappa *96, was working to finish the costume gallery project at the Embassy of the Philippines. Of course, this is a collective effort by several other illustrious APODCAA members in the likes of brothers Ding Gomez, Mody Olympia, Rene Amon, Rudy Magsalin, Santi Sipin, Doods Castellano, Jesse Dayrit, Jun Alvarez, Rhadee Cayman, and many others. On May 17, 2007, brothers Anthony, Ding, and Mody finally put the finishing touches in order for the Filipino Costume Display Gallery to be ready for an embassy-sponsored event hosted by RP Ambasador Willy C. Gaa. On May 18, 2007, RP Ambassador Gaa cut the ceremonial ribbon and proudly displayed the efforts of our very own to other Philippine civic organizations in the community.

Finally, APODCAA will once again be in charge of this year’s Philippine Independence Day Parade celebrations on June 3, 2007, in downtown Washington, D.C. Another collaborative effort which has now become a tradition. Visit us at www.apodcaa.com

January 2007: [Houston, from next column]

On January 13, 2007, in their 2nd year in a row, APO Metro Houston members volunteered at the "Annual Texas Children's Hospital - Kid's Fun Run", which was participated by thousands of children in the Houston area, by awarding individual medals to all participaring runners.

Feb. 18, 2007, APO Metro Houston members cleaned the Texas Coast by adopting "Mile Zero" San Luis Pass Bridge Area in Surfside, Texas, as part of the International Coastal Clean-Up Project.

The next day, Jan. 14, 2007, APO Metro Houston members volunteered at the "Annual Houston Marathon" by providing fruits, muffins and drinks to thousands of participating runners from all over the world.

On April 14, 2007, APO Metro Houston members volunteered at the "14th Annual Don’t Mess With Texas Trash Off - Keep Sugar Land Beautiful", by cleaning up the streets of Sugar Land, Texas.

On Jan. 26, 2007, APO Metro Houston members together with APO USA members volunteered at the Muscular Dystrophy Association fundraiser, by helping out in their silent and live auction, which raised thousands of dollars.

April 28, 2007, APO Metro Houston members, in its commitment to maintain the cleanliness of Texas Coast, participated in the "Texas Adopt-a-Beach Spring Clean-up" together with service oriented organizations and individuals.

To end the Month of January with a bang, APO Metro Houston members volunteered at the "Houston Treeplanting Project" along the Clayton & Lee Rd. which was participated by hundreds of Metro Houston residents.

February 2007: On February 4, 2007, APO Metro Houston members, in their 2nd year now, adopted the "Mayfield Neighborhood Park" and is committed to its maintenance by cleaning it quarterly.

Valentine's Day, Feb. 14, 2007, APO Metro Houston members volunteered and donated blood to MD Anderson Cancer Center, for the benefit of cancer patients and APO brethren in need of blood.

APO S. Ontario Alumni Association “APO Toronto Celebrates Earth Day” On the weekend of April 21st, Alpha Phi Omega Alumni Association of Toronto (APO-Toronto) members and families rendered another meaningful and fulfilling service projects to celebrate 2007 Earth Day. These are the clean-up drive for our annual Adopt-a-Park (April 21st) and the Tree Planting (April 22nd). These two projects have been part of our annual service activities for the past several years.

In adopting Munden Park located at North Service Road from Cawthra to Hurontario, we had been noted this year by the city of Mississauga for helping to reduce litter under the city’s Litter-Not program. As a service-oriented organization, we committed to do three clean-ups per year under the leadership of Bro. Jerry Villanueva.

Our tree planting program, led by Panny Labao, is now on its 15th year and has always been a success. On April 22nd, we were able to plant more than 200 trees to contribute to a greener environment. Our effort was recognized by the presence of Ontario Premier McGuinty.

APO-Toronto’s commitment to service remains steadfast as we all strive to make a difference!

LAKBAY KAMPOSINING 24TH NBC EDITION SA TAGAYTAY CITY MAY 4, 2007 by Marizaly Jazmin Quitania The special Event was delivered in behalf of APO LICEO/ ALPHA THETA Fraternity/Sorority in joint undertaking with partners: (Supervising) 24th NBC Committee, (Working) APO TAGAYTAY, (Principal Funding $ 600-), APO ACNA (Counterpart Funding or in kind) APO SON ALAS. FLEUR DE LIZ , OWTEL Manny Delos Santos.

May 4, 2007 Kamposining served 80 beneficiaries, ages 7 to 15 yrs old joined by 3 participant Sangguniang Kabataan Officials and 5 APO siblings to a sum of 88 comprising the 4th batch of Kamposining Young Artist for Peace and Progress. The training design was efficiently delivered to satisfied participants by in-house artist according to each three age groups (7 to 9, 10 to12, 13 to15), most, malnourished. Each gaining pleasant experience of learning to learn, to do, to be by himself and with others; with painting medium by crayons, oil pastel and poster color on paper coupled with exercises on arts appreciation where participants developed objectivity in expression of opinion and acceptance of constructive criticism. Significant in character building was the “po-opo-hoy!” warm up exercise that creates the obedient mood in the activity area. ‘The Kampo Camp- Sining Camp Cheer Compete” exercise facilitated by Camp Administrator Bro. Ching Danseco (Beta Tau) displayed shared self esteem from their rank; that drew the brief amused/ amazed attention of Bro/Sis delegates who is also the public of Kamposining. to the delight of camp team and community health workers marshalling the participants. Aiding in watching safety of kids in the activity area are sisters nursing students of petitioning chapter, providing stand by First Aid. [Kampos, next column]

Efforts of Brother Roger Gayena for inviting almost ideal participation of beneficiary community ( relocated from urban poor areas in Metro Manila). The VitaMeal Feeding , in lieu of regular snacks, supposed to enhance the Event with Nutrition component, failed to be delivered as scheduled for lack in timely coordination of distant key groups (Apo Liceo , Kamposining, Apo Tagaytay); that requires preparing and serving of Camp cook with parents, as supervised by Feed the Children Phils. technical experts, also monitoring the Event. Despite this weakness, they had expressed their appreciation of Kamposining as vehicle to their nutrition program’s information education and communication campaign.

The possibility of E-FAC Manila Project Supervisor Sharon Rose Ylagan’s endorsement, to Feed the Children Int’l support is prayed for consideration as Lakay Kamposining Program Partner. The conduct of Kamposining as a special featured activity during the APO Convention has keyed FCPI intention to invite APO Chapters and Alumni Association for future E-FAC (Enhanced â•” Feed A Child) Projects. Making the most of what is allowed under circumstance, FCPI expert briefed health workers on preparation of VitaMeal. who shall, in turn brief, parents to actual participation in solicited feeding program of Apo Tagaytay until community’s requested Kamposining return which is being looked forward to as offering of gratitude to the people of Tagaytay City that has hosted Alpha Phi Omega’s 24th Nat’l Biennial Convention. read the Convention rules. There was a roll call of collegiate chapters and alumni associations. In the afternoon there were separate sessions for the Collegiate Assembly and Alumni Assembly. Beth Tom facilitated the Collegiate Assembly with support from National Program Director Ed Richter and Past National President Fred Heismeyer. Joe Eco led the Alumni Assembly. Some of us prepared for a presentation to the Council of Elders on behalf of the Librado I. Ureta Foundation. We must have succeeded, because the Council of Elders agreed to move forward by creating a task force on the Ureta Foundation proposal for a National Office.

Friday night was the Chairman of the Board and National President’s night with a valedictory address from outgoing Chairman Angel Lansi and a valedictory from President Jimmy De Castro. There was an exchange of gifts between APO Philippines and the APO USA Delegation. Following was a raffle and 24th NBC Idol Contest.

Tagaytay City- Entering the Philippines, we saw the Mall of Asia, traffic in Manila, road to Tagaytay. Wednesday, before the Convention we went by motorcade to Lake Taal, then by boat to Volcano Island, where we rode horses to the top of volcanic Taal crater.

This crater has a lake in it. Therefore we saw a lake on the island.

We went to the People's Park on the way back. This, you know, is the remainder of a construction job originally intended to be a summer palace for President Marcos. We saw the lake from several different restaurants in the course of a week. Then there was the Convention at Tagaytay International Convention Center.

The Alpha Phi Omega USA delegation included: Immediate Past National President Fred Heismeyer (resident of Arkansas, teaching in Shanghai), Past National President Wilfred Krenek (resident of Houston, Texas), Past National Program Director Beth Tom (resident of Elko, Nevada), current National Program Director Ed Richter (from Franklin, Ohio), Librado I. Ureta Foundation President Mel Gonzales (who lives in at least two worlds, Stockton, California, etc.), Librado I. Ureta Foundation board member & Chaparral Alumni Association President - Rosemary Riedy (Alhambra, California), Past Chairman of the Board of Librado I. Ureta Foundation & Trustee of the Earle M. Herbert Memorial Scholarship - Jeff Schwartz (Alhambra, California). Representing the many facets of Alpha Phi Omega were Brothers and Sisters living in Canada, Australia, Italy, United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, and others.

Thursday morning Opening Day the USA Delegation, with Convention Chair Sis. Gigi Sacay-Clave, made a courtesy call on the Mayor of Tagaytay, and was greeted by his staff member, Rodolfo Ancheta at City Hall. We returned to the Convention Center to view the exhibits. In the afternoon were the opening ceremonies.

The Doxology was sung by Sis. Meg Alvero and her son, Jack.

Thursday evening was Cultural Night with special entertainment by Meg Alvaro. There was a keynote speech by Antonio Meloto, Executive Director of Gawad Kalinga with slides. Saturday was the Plenary Session. The ICAPO continued it’s meeting, which had begun Friday, presided by Chato Marinas. The International Council of Alpha Phi Omega grappled with the challenges of extension to Canada and Australia.

One restaurant we visited was called "China Palace” in Tagaytay Highlands, which is an exclusive gated community. One restaurant was "Sonia’s Garden” where vegetables are grown and served. We were able to visit the garden there.

After the Convention we stayed one night in Makati City and saw whatever was visible near the hotel there. We could see a business district south of the hotel, and across the river to the north another downtown area with tall buildings. We could see boat traffic on the river.

This is just a sample of the Convention. Many experiences were occurring and it was impossible to be everywhere.

We had a layover of about three hours in Taipei flying each direction. We saw a lot of the airport there.

Sis Dr. Nobella S. Tumbokon of Apo Son Alas efforts, to provide for our lack of working staff to co- facilitate judging and awarding part with Apo Liceo President Henry Ferrer. Sis Belle headed two other sisters and Bro. Rommel Abellanosa of Alpha Rho completing the panel. She was joined by fellow arts enthusiast Alpha Theta Bro, Danilo Santos (sports photography hobbyist) of PCSO in the awarding. Winners received Certificates with tokens from art materials contributed by Sis Cynthia Alino Perez courtesy of Bro Amel Fortun who has taken video’s and still shots of the Event along with others appreciating the art activity, including ACNA President Bro Lester Arevalo who, despite many commitments, find time to witness the experience of the mobile art camp, this time, literally and practically, set at higher grounds overlooking the TICC edifice housing the convention of fellows for service. Art works were laid on the grass exhibited by work-shoppers themselves after which they were treated to a fun of face painting .

The plus fun henna tattoo for adults and likhang sining shirts failed to raise funds for Lakbay Kamposining for lack of marketing time and effort, and limitation on sale of shirts observed. Post convention marketing effort on the net hopes to make sales from those who failed to join Apo Balikbayans 4 the 24th NBC. Proceed hopes to sustain costs of marketing Lakbay Kamposining to Prospect Partners Organizations outside APO .

A total of $600 , (P28.200) received as ACNA principal funding had been mobilized to pay cost of Honoraria for Artists Services P500 x 2 days (period spent for preparation, travel and actual facilitation) = P8,000 with voucher plus purchase of Art materials and other camp supplies P4,832.50 with receipt plus Food Allowance 1) participants (Vita Meal P1,500, glutinous rice P100, Eggs P472 with receipt.= P1,972 plus 2) Camp Team and volunteers 12x 5 meals with snacks x P150 = P9,000 plus Transportation Allowance: Van Rental = P4,000, public vehicle fares, 2 staff x 250 x 2 trips to Tagaytay/ Amadeo =P1000, to a total of P27, 804.50. Savings of P399.50 for contingencies such as supplemental snacks in lieu of failure to serve VitaMeal feeding, additional funding were raised from bros’ and sis’ present in the activity area.

Analysis of Lakbay Kamposining strengths, weaknesses, opportunities and threats with special focus on audit of camp team performance to define improvements for efficient and convenient delivery in year two of Lakbay KampoSining. Result of first year selfevaluation shall be posted for your information and appropriate concern.

ACNA PREXY INDUCTED AS ARNA May 18, 2007 - These pictures were taken at the “Treehouse” in Quezon city, last May 11, 2007. Sis Yolly of ARAP and Brod Lester of ARNA were both inducted by President Jimmy De Castro into their respective positions as Regional Administrative Directors for their Respective Regions. SAC Luis Paredes, President Elect Mel Adriano and other Officers were there to witness and share in the event.

NEWLY ELECTED APO PHIL. PRESIDENT VISIT’S CALIFORNIA AND NEVADA July 23, 2007 Los Angeles, Ca - Bro. Mel Adriano’s recent trip to the US saw an opportunity to meet with representatives of AAs from Greater LA, San Diego, South Bay, Northern California, San Francisco-Silicon Valley, Sacramento, Central Valley, Nevada and ETAANA to name a few. His visit allowed him to discuss with various AAs his plans for the national organization at the same time gather support for the council’s undertakings. At this juncture, Bro. Mel also had the chance to hold private audience with members who have specific issues with the Council that had to be addressed.

Attesting to Bro. Mel’s fruitful sojourn is a donation of 3 brand new notebooks from Bros. Richard Lacson (Iota, Sec. of LIUF) and Ed del Rosario (Gamma Epsilon) of Greater LA. NAO’s program of upgrading its equipment is on the right track it seeks for donors for high speed scanner with auto-feeder and portable scanner for the 2nd ID machine setup. ~aad

ACNA COUNCIL MEETING CHICAGO

Dear Member AA’s of ACNA, As you already know, I was elected Regional Director of the Administrative Region of North America (ARNA) in accordance with theAPO CBL in Chicago last April 1, 2007. As you may also know, I have issued a statement explaining my stand regarding ARNA, ACNA and APO Philippines.

While many of you might be cynical or suspicious about what impact ARNA may have on ACNA, please be assured that I have studied the issue in great detail and have come to the conclusion that there are no conflicts, whether of interest or of functions or of prerogatives. What we should keep in mind is that we should not lose sight of the big picture - that we are all APO and that we all want whatever should be best for APO and for ourselves as we continue to implement the ideals and principles of APO. It is true that ACNA has been established in North America almosttwo decades ago and that ARNA was mandated by the 2003 National Biennial Convention to be established through the appropriateprovisions in the APO CBL. The issue of age is a false issue and there is really no conflict between the existence of ACNA and the establishment of ARNA because both are APO creatures.

Whether we like it or not, APO Philippines alumni associations in North America are self-limiting, that is, we cannot recruit from APOUSA members and we will have to rely on expatriate APO members from the Philippines. It is therefore, in a sense, the very same people involved in ACNA who will be the players in ARNA. That is the reality we face and must accept. To refuse to accept this reality is like halting the waves of the ocean - it will be fruitless and useless, like halting progress. We either have to ride the waves or be swept along with it. In both cases, we cannot stop it so it is better to accept it and make it a positive experience for our beloved APO. Let us therefore forget pride and other considerations so let us not lose sight of the REAL objective - to carry out the mission of APO. To those who have doubts about whether or not ARNA will negatively impact the existence of ACNA, there is nothing to fear.

Freedom of association is protected and even our APO CBL recognizes this. What is important is that the solution is not in holding back the tide but to ensure that this tide will not destroy us in its path. It is therefore just logical that we should have a voice in how our AAs are administered in North America and the solution is to have an official standing with APO Philippines by chartering the individual alumni associations with APO Philippines.

As ARNA (composed of mostly ACNA AAs), we now have the opportunity of a lifetime to act as one in convincing APO Philippines to grant us individual charters, a sort of grand fathering of AAs in North America. Of course, this will happen only with the AAs’ permission and cooperation. Those who opt out of this en masse procedure will have to go through the process of individual chartering, which will be more difficult. It will be much easier for us collectively to be chartered en masse than to go through the process individually. The choice is up to the individual AAs. I am offering you this one-time opportunity that, as we all agree, will accrue to the benefit of APO and not to any individual self-interest.

Bobet Lara (Hole #6), Patrick Afan (Hole #8), Paul Villafuerte (Hole #13) and Mel Cancino (Hole #17). Low Net champions were Bros. Mervyn Gucilatar (Class A), Erwin Carracedo (Class B) and Art Salum (Class C). The overall gross champion was Bro. Jimmy Magsino, who shot the best score of 77.

The perpetual tropy remains with Team South, being the host, until the next match. The tournament was organized and hosted

by GLA AA under the leadership of its President, Bro. Sancho Sy, with Bro. Mar Garchitorena as Commissioner and the North and South team captains, and in collaboration with ACNA. Equally successful was the Poker Tournament fundraiser organized by GLA on August 4 after the Day 1 golf match. Splitting the 1st and 2nd prize pot of $1,400.00 were Bro. Ferdie Laluces and Rissa Nicoles (guest). Other winners were also invited guests.

The card game was chaired by Bro. Raul Nadres. Part of the proceeds of the fundraisers will benefit the various service projects of fundraisers will benefit the various service projects of ACNA and GLA.~aad

AAs’ ID officers to facilitate processing of (APO-Phils.)

ID cards. ACNA would become the go-between for alumni members in North America and APO (Phils.) in the processing of IDs. Fee is $7.00 but is subject to negotiation.

Suggestion was the fee must be the same with the locals.

Applicants are enjoined to submit ID applications on or before July 2007 to possess a valid ID for one year. There was a suggestion to propose validity to two years. AAs must submit the name of their respective ID officers as soon as possible.

President Bro. Lester Arevalo opened the meeting at 9:42 am at the Stephen’s Room II of Wyndham Hotel – O’Hare.

Sis. Cora de Jesus rendered the Invocation. Bro. Pet Ramos, President of Midwest Chicago, delivered the Welcome Address.

Bro. Lester sought the group’s agreement to discussing official ACNA matters over the Internet to save time and get everyone more prepared during official meetings. Everyone concurred.

The Executive Committee raised no questions over the Minutes of Council Meeting at the Universal Hilton, North Hollywood, California on September 2, 2006, during the 8th ACNA Biennial Convention. Bro. Ed Santos moved for the approval of the Minutes “as it is” and seconded by the body. Copy is available upon request.

ACNA Website. This is already up yet undergoing minor modifications. The web address is www.apoacna.org or www.apoacna.net. The site is owned by ACNA for $142.00 for 2-year domain hosting. Individual members of member AAs of ACNA may already register to enjoy more user privileges. Bro. Jigsaw Reodica is the lead administrator.

ID Officer. Bro. Arnulfo “Noly” Pleyto was designated as overall chairperson, who will coordinate with respective

ACNA-LIUF Service. Bro. Mel Gonzales of LIUF reported the target funds of $5,000.00. As of this date, cash collections and pledges amounted to $5,240.00. During the 2005 service project, ACNA spent $6,000.00 and this had been the benchmark for the budget. The group recommended proper disbursement and accountability, especially from the Philippine side. Bulk of the cash donations will be used to purchase medicines, which ACNA-LIUF will release in part(s), instead of paying lump sum.

Besides cash donation, a total of 37 balikbayan boxes containing relief goods were shipped through Sis. Sallie Licauco. These will be distributed not only for the Amadeo, Cavite project site but also in Bicol.

Medical and Dental Team Resource Database. This is an ongoing project led by Bro. Doods Castellano. The goal is to generate a data bank of contact of those in the medical and dental fields for future ACNA undertakings. There is no cost involved in this project.

Computer Learning Center. This remains a tentative project but with already an approved budget. The original idea was to equip elementary schools per APO Region. A suggestion was made to channel this through the Department of Education (DEPED) but is has not gone anywhere just yet. Funds may be directed to an equally worthwhile project, which the group approved.

Newsletter Coordinator. AAs are asked to submit the name(s) of their respective coordinators to generate more valuable contents for both the quarterly newsletter and the website. No guidelines have been established for both the website and the newsletter, which ACNA officers are prepared to formulate. The Editor-in-Chief is Bro. Mishael “Boy” Medina at mimedaphio@aol.com.

ACNA Service Center. Besides contact information via the website, callers may contact 1-818-523-7322. This had been operational since January 1995 under Bro. Lester’s supervision and will be a continuing service to AAs and their members.

SAPOC Learning Center. The body approved a donation of $1,500.00 and is a yearly commitment but seeks regular financial/annual report from SAPOC. Latest financials to be reported shortly. It is helpful to link SAPOC’s website to ACNA’s for regular updates. Also suggest a review of the standing resolution that committed ACNA’s yearly support for the project and copy must be distributed to member AAs. Midwest-Chicago donates $500.00 yearly to this cause.

Recognition of Senior. ACNA shall adopt this project at the ACNA Convention in Toronto in 2008. The goal is to give recognition to seniors batch 1950s in APO and above.

They must be present to receive the award. If budget permits, batch 1960s may also be included. The body concurs with the plan.

10. ACNA Literary Contest. This is a new project, coined “Buhay APO”, which drew the nod from the body. The goal is to generate participants to come up with a literary piece about APO personal experiences in general. This is going to be an open competition. No registration fee is required. All materials shall be collated in the form of (APO) book and shall become a fundraising project. Proposed deadline of entries is during the Vancouver, BC ACNA Council Meeting. Awarding ceremonies is scheduled at the 2008 Toronto Convention. Mechanics shall be announced soon.

11. Kampo Sining. The body approved a donation of $600.00 for APO-Liceo, which is organizing the outreach project on May 3, 2007, in Tagaytay to coincide with the 24th National Convention. ACNA will partner in providing art camp to less privileged children and the youth. Participants will share fun in learning the basics of arts and its cultural essence.

12. ACNA Incorporation. Bro. Lester announced that ACNA has finally sought and completed incorporation in the State of Washington through Bro. Ruffy Ignacio. Renewal is $10.00 only plus the required report compared to the State of California, which requires $800.00 renewal fee. A question was raised about ACNA’s liabilities in California, which will be discussed in a separate occasion.

13. Fundraising Projects. Bro. Lester stated that ACNA would draw funds from donations, sale of APO Book, Car Raffle and Golf Tournament. Offhand, there is already a plan to hold the Car Raffle at the ACNA Convention in Toronto in 2008. Fundraising involving the AAs would be on a 50-50 income-sharing basis.

14. SON ALAS. Newly formed AA in Southern Ontario, Canada, formally submits its application for ACNA membership.

15. ACNA APPOINTMENTS. Bro. Lester added the following appointments: Jun Tapay – International Relations Mar Garchitorena – Ways and Means 16. BUDGET/FINANCIALS (see attached). Receivables were noted as coming from those checks, which were lost by ACNA PP Bro. Cesar Garingan. AAs who issued those check payments were requested to examine their records to help account for the receivables. The past ACNA administration formally turned over $16,895.49. To this date, only Midwest-Chicago and San Diego have paid their dues for 2007-2008. The body questioned the absence of official audit certification of the turnover. Bro. Mel Gonzales unveiled LIUF’s proposed project of putting up a LIUF Center, which would serve as timeless legacy and would benefit APO Philippines the most. The objective is to raise PhP 6M ot $200k by 2010. Mechanics to follow.

It was raised that most members in the Philippines do not know about ACNA. Toronto AA was tasked to print a brochure-type material in time for the Convention. ACNA shall provide the contents. Other suggestion to spread the word about ACNA is through participation in the National Council’s newsletter and by posting ACNA materials in the APO (Phils.) website.

18. 2nd Quarterly Meeting. This will be hosted by British Columbia in June or July 2007. Details to be announced soon.
