Welcome to the Fintech Summit 2018. If is so fulfilling to be part of a dynamic journey. Taking inspiration from the expansion of Fintech space in the country, we are today can delight that Kenya has an innovative voice globally. This is demonstrated at this summit that is hosting leading lights, from innovators, institutions and investors to policy makers and the financial industry to ICT industry regulators.

The Summit themed: Collaboration and Co-Innovation in the Financial Services Industry is organised against the back-drop of Fintech emerging as a special category of human innovation requiring a full ecosystem of co-development across technological, legal, regulatory, security and even psychological and conceptual realms.

Against this background, the summit has brought together influential disruptive and innovative technology companies as well as key industry players comprising the Regulator of the financial industry, Banking Institutions; Insurance establishments, SACCOs and Telecom operators.

During the summit, we’ll all have a special moment to insightfully share with the industry more about the trends and immediate next steps how FSIs can collaborate with Fintech Companies to democratise and enhance access to financial services. It is our zeal to go up to the lowest level of the retail chain with the overall goal of spurring the national economy.

Fintech is no longer about digitizing existing financial products. It’s about integrating financial services into applications and services you use every day. It’s a global phenomenon that cannot be ignored.

Research shows that VC-backed fintech companies raised US$5.4B across 323 deals in just the first quarter of 2018. This is a new quarterly record in the global fintech deal activity. The US saw the largest boost in deals. Locally, we recently saw Celullant a home grown fintech company raise US$4.7m one of the largest deals in recent times and especially within the Fintech space.

Overall, the Fintech space in Kenya is witnessing rapid growth as new innovative financial service industry players continue to disrupt the traditional models creating new, convenient distribution channels with the customer as the primary focus. Creative Fintech use-cases continue to emerge in billing and payments, remittances, lending, insurance, personal finance, capital markets, wealth management and the emotive blockchain and cryto.

The Fintech opportunity is just but beginning. However, to realize its full potential, the entire ecosystem needs to work better together and this is the sole objective of this summit – to promote a collaborative approach to Fintech among all the stakeholders. It is therefore, our delight to explore this exciting and progressive fintech agenda together.

CABINET SECRETARY, MINISTRY OF ICT AND INNOVATION Joseph Mucheru MBS, is the current Kenyan Cabinet Secretary in the Ministry of Information, Communications and Technology. He recently appointed an eleven member taskforce on blockchain and artificial intelligence technology for Kenya. He is a former Google Sub-Sahara Africa Lead based in the Google Nairobi office. He has prior experience as Director of several entities including AFB, BitPesa, UAP Investments as well as the Telecommunications Service Providers Association of Kenya (TESPOK). He was a Webmaster, Technical & Product Development Manager at Internet Solutions (IS) (formally Interconnect Limited). He was awarded the Moran of the Order of the Burning Spear (MBS) in 2010 and is a member of Africa Leadership Network, The National Prayer Breakfast, and the East African Business Summit.

GOVERNOR AT CENTRAL BANK OF KENYA CBK GOVERNOR DR. PATRICK NJOROGE IS 2018 CENTRAL BANKER OF THE YEAR, AFRICA. He was recognised as the Central Banker of the Year, Africa by the prestigious The Banker Magazine, a publication of the Financial Times group. Dr. Patrick Njoroge worked at the IMF in Washington, D. C from April 1995 until 2015. He was nominated to be the governor of the Central Bank of Kenya by Hon. Uhuru Kenyatta, the president of Kenya, on 2 June 2015. After vetting by the parliamentary committee on Finance, Trade and Planning on 17 June 2015, he was approved by the parliament of Kenya on 18 June 2015. He assumed office effective 19 June 2015.

EQUITY GROUP HOLDINGS LTD James Mwangi is an accountant, banker, businessman and entrepreneur in Kenya. He is the current Group Managing Director and Group Chief Executive Officer of the Equity Group Holdings Limited, the banking conglomerate with the largest customer base on the African continent.

He is currently the Chairman of Kenya’s Vision 2030 Delivery Board charged with the responsibility of ensuring Kenya becomes a middle income country with global high standards of living by the year 2030. He serves on several international bodies as an advisor.He is a Board member of the Africa Leadership Academy in South Africa, the Global Alliance for Food Security and Nutrition. He has wide experience in the banking industry and inclusive finance.

DR.JULIUS KIPNG’ETICH REGIONAL CEO, JUBILEE HOLDINGS LTD

Dr. Kipng’etich is the current CEO of Jubilee Insurance Group.

In his role he leads the regional operations of Jubilee Insurance in the five countries it operates in – Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Burundi and Mauritius. He is the former CEO of Uchumi Supermarkets Ltd. Dr. Kipng’etich has extensive knowledge and experience in strategy and management. He previously served as the COO of Equity Group Holdings Limited where he spearheaded regional growth, new product development and the mobile virtual network operator (MVNO) – Equitel development. Dr. Kipng’etich was also the Director and CEO of the Kenya Wildlife Service. Dr. Kipng’etich holds a Masters of Business Administration and a Bachelors of Commerce Degree (Accounting Option) from the University of Nairobi.

DIRECTOR, SANLAM GENERAL INSURANCE LIMITED Christine is a board director for Sanlam General Insurance Limited and Managing Director at Strategia Advisors Limited, a Kenya consulting firm with extensive experience in advising both public and private sector clients in the areas of Capital Raising, Project Finance, Public/Private Partnerships, Strategy and Business Planning, and Economic Development Policy. She specialises in economic development, corporate finance, project finance, strategy, financial modeling, credit analysis, contract structuring and negotiation, program design and evaluation.

KEN NJOROGE

FOUNDER, CELLULANT Ken is a Co-Founder and the Group CEO of Cellulant. He is a career entrepreneur having co-founded 3Mice Interactive Media which grew from a two-man team to a leading web development firm in East Africa. He headed 3Mice’s Technology, Strategy and Solution Development teams as its Solution Design Director. The team was responsible for conceptualizing and executing digital projects covering e-commerce platforms, content management platforms and e-business platforms for more than 50 blue chip customers in different sectors in the region. In 2000, 3Mice was acquired by Africa Online, the largest Pan-African Internet Service Provider at the time that was owned by

London-Listed firm, African Lakes Corporation. Ken has led Cellulant from a dream of two founders, one whose plan was sketched on a serviette in 2003, to a reputable mobile commerce firm in Africa.

FABIEN DELANAUD GM, MYRIAD CONNECT

Fabien Delanud is the current General Manager of Myriad Connect, a communications Platform-As-A-Service. Delanud has 20 years of experience supporting Tier 1 Mobile Operators worldwide. Highly analytical, adept at planning, communicating and implementing organisational changes that result in genuine cost efficiencies and support growth.

He builds trusted relationships with customers and Executives using solid interpersonal skills, a strong sense of ownership and common sense, to deliver exceptional service. He is a leader with cultural sensitivity and maturity, who enjoys motivating and inspiring staff both locally and offshore to strive for outstanding customer satisfaction.

DR BITANGE NDEMO

CHAIRMAN, BLOCKCHAIN AND AI TASKFORCE, KENYA Dr. Bitange Ndemo is currently the Chairman of the 11 person taskforce to point out on how the government can leverage on the emerging technologies in the next five years. The former Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Information and Communication was a Financial Systems Analyst with Medtronic Inc. a Fortune 500 company in the USA between 1989 and 1993. He joined University of Nairobi in 1993 as a Tutorial Fellow rising through the ranks to become a Senior Lecturer in the Business School.

In 2005, Dr. Ndemo continued to champion strategies of moving and transforming Kenya into the digital age in all spheres. Dr. Ndemo holds a PhD in Industrial Economics from the University of Sheffield in the UK, an MBA and bachelors degree in Finance and Accounting from the University of Minnesota.Dr. Ndemo sits at the Boards of the Postal Corporation of Kenya, Telkom Kenya, Kenya Film Commission, and the Kenya ICT Board.

Eng. Wangusi has been the Director General of Communications Authority in Kenya since 2012. He has over 27 years of experience in the communications industry. Before being appointed as the Director General, he served as Director in the departments of Broadcasting and Licensing Compliance & Standards respectively in the organization. Prior to joining the Authority, he had served as a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Telecommunication Engineering at the Multimedia University College of Kenya. He holds a Masters Degree in Space Sciences (Satellite Communications); BSc degree (Telecommunications Engineering); Charted Engineer-UK Certificate and Global Executive Masters Degree in Business Administration (GEMBA).

JOHN SERGON

AG. CEO - ICT AUTHORITY

John Sergon has been appointed the Acting Chief Executive Officer of the ICT Authority effective 22nd March, 2018.Until his appointment, he was the Director of ICT at the Ministry of ICT in the State Department of ICT & Innovation, overseeing the numerous high value ICT projects under the Ministry. Before then, he was the Ag. ICT Secretary, Directorate of e-Government and Director ICT at the Directorate of e-Government, in the Office of the President.

In addition, John has a wealth of experience in the security sector where he was the Director ICT in the National Security Intelligence Service from 1999 to 2008, a post he held until he was transferred to the Directorate of e-Government. John holds a Business Administration Bachelors degree from the University of Columbia, USA and MSC, Information Systems Management from the Bowie State University.Mr. Sergon brings to the ICT Authority over 24 years’ experience in public service, mainly in the ICT and security sectors.

DINESH ARORA SENIOR BANKER

Mr. Dinesh Arora is a senior banker with 37 years of experience in Africa and India.

He held CEO position in East African banking group that had 5x growth during his tenure. He holds key position as board member in banks in Africa. He is strong believer of using ICT as an enabler to revolutionize ‘Future Banking”. He will share his experience on successes and challenges.

PRINCIPAL SECRETARY, MINISTRY OF ICT Having a wealth of experience in the field of information and communication technology in the Public Service, Ochieng has a stint of 8 years’ experience rising within the ranks to the position of Asst. Director ICT in the Department of Government Information Technology Services (GITS). He also served as a Manager ICT with Public Procurement Oversight Authority (PPOA) for 6 years.

Ochieng, a holder of a Masters’ Degree in Information Engineering from the University of the Ryukyus, Okinawa, Japan. He is at the moment undertaking a Master’s in Business Administration from (ESAMI). He is a registered fellow of the Computer Society of Kenya (CSK) and a Licentiate Member of the Institute of Management Information Systems (IMIS), UK.

REGION BUSINESS HEAD, EA&IOI, THOMSON REUTERS He currently works at Thomson Reuters where he heads the Government Business (Entire Public Sector Value Chain, Private Sector & Corporate) across East Africa & Indian Ocean Islands Region. A visible leader in the research, deployment, and management of Technology, across different Industries & verticals globally.

His Specialty in Technology, multiple industry application and his generalization of understanding different Business processes has driven him to work across continents and for various industries where Technology is applied. (Europe, Middle East & Africa). Lenin is a graduate of Electronic & Computer Engineering at JKUAT - Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture & Technology, Msc Web Sciences & Big data from University of Liverpool (Ongoing) and an Oracle DBA. CEO, INTEGRATED PAYMENTS SERVICES LIMITED (ISPL) Ms. Agnes Gathaiya is the Chief Executive Officer of Integrated Payments Services Limited (IPSL). She is responsible for developing and driving execution of IPSL’s purpose and mandate, including positioning IPSL as the operator of choice for banks and driving payments innovation within the industry. Ms. Gathaiya has more than 20 years progressive experience in organizational transformation, predominantly focused on developing strategy and leading sales and business development.

She has held leadership positions in several organisations including Deloitte Consulting, SAP and most recently Safaricom where she served as Head of Department for the Enterprise Unit’s SME and Regional Operations. She holds a Master’s in Business Administration from United States International University and a Bachelor of Science in Economics from Bryn Mawr College, USA. She has also been through the Harvard University Women in Leadership program and was recognised in 2010 by Business Daily as one of the Top 40 Under 40 Women in the country.

SNR. LECTURER, STRATHMORE BUSINESS SCHOOL Dr. James K. Wanjagi holds a PhD degree in Organizational Management – Leadership specialization, from Capella University – School of Business in Minneapolis, MN. He is a seasoned senior level executive, certified Project Management professional, Change Management / Communication strategist,

and IT technology expert with over 15 years extensive “marketplace” experience managing organizational performance and multi million dollar operations, and projects. Ronald Nyandieka Orina is a Technical Accounts Manager & East Africa Innovation Champion at Thomson Reuters, where he holistically manages & enhances Thomson Reuter’s client’s technical footprint for the large portfolio of Thomson Reuter’s enterprise products.

John Waibochi is a Kenyan born technology entrepreneur who has been in the Tech industry for 11 years. He is currently the CEO at Virtual City, VirtualSat and Virtual Mobile. John studied Electrical Engineering at Michigan State University. His first job was selling HF and VHF radios. He worked in the telcom industry and the data industry. In 2007 they VirtualCity received $50,000 at the Legatum awards, they were second.

In 2009 they won 1.5 million dollars in the ATF competition.

In 2010, Virtual City won the Nokia Innovation Challenge Award of Fast Moving Consumer Goods in emerging markets.

GEORGE NJUGUNA CIO, HOUSING FINANCE

George Njuguna has more than 15 years experience in IT, and 10 years experience in Banking and Financial Services, specifically in technology, product development, project management, channel management, change control and system implementation.

PAUL MWAURA NDICHU

Experience programme manager capable of simultaneously implementing multiple projects across organizations and geographies.

Paul Mwaura Ndichu joined Interswitch East Africa (K) after an illustrious career in Technology, Banking, Payments, Mobile, Telecommunication and Innovation. He has deployed Mobile and Digital Commerce solutions in various industries, including in a multi-national Banking Group and in one of the leading technology businesses in mobile and digital services in Africa. His last posting was as VP/Managing Director at Jumia Group (previously Africa Internet Group) a technology company. Paul is passionate about transformation through technology, Mobile and Payments. He has vast experience in strategy and business growth, with a particular interest in Start-ups which he will deploy in growing the Interswitch business in Kenya and East Africa.

DEPUTY CEO, JAMII BORA BANK Tim holds a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from the University of New Brunswick, Canada. A vibrant thinker and innovator, Tim has a high level of experience in the areas of retail banking, treasury management, strategic planning and foreign exchange trading; having held key leadership roles in those areas with various institutions in Kenya’s banking sector. As Deputy CEO, Tim is responsible for ensuring development and delivery of; quality customer service, product and service innovation and marketing as well as product pricing. CIO, BARCLAYS BANK OF KENYA Mr. Steve Njenga is currently the CIO at Barclays Bank Kenya, a top provider of financial services in the market. He is an accomplished ICT veteran with 20+ years of broad hands-on and diverse experience managing and leading ICT initiatives within industry-leading, global organizations.

The last 15 years have been in the financial services sector in various roles at global organisations that include Federal Express, JP Morgan Chase and Wells Fargo Bank. He has been instrumental in the planning and implementation of enterprise ICT systems, leading and directing large scale ICT integration initiatives as well as implementing core ICT processes from the ground up. Notable achievements during his career include implementation of successful cost reduction initiatives thru reorganisation of maintenance and support structures, the successful implementation of external relationships designed to increase human resource capacity improve service delivery, as well as leading development of innovative, award winning, best-in-class ICT solutions. Mr. Njenga is an alumni of Nairobi School and holds a graduate in Mechanical Engineering from the Royal Institute of Technology.

TONIA KARIUKI

OPERATING PARTNER/VC, FULL CIRCLE AFRICA Tonia Mutiso-Kariuki is the Marketing Director for Microsoft 4Afrika. A trained attorney, Tonia has over 15 years of experience in the Law, IT, Human Resources and Marketing. Officially the first employee for Microsoft in Kenya, Tonia oversaw the start-up of Microsoft Kenya followed by 5 years as the Finance Manager for the East African entity before moving into Marketing. Her marketing experiences include Product and Channel Marketing as well as Marketing Leadership within Microsoft East & Southern Africa. In addition, Tonia has in depth experience in Human Resources having served for 5 years as the HR Lead for Microsoft East & Southern Africa before joining Microsoft 4Afrika as Marketing Director.

NNANNA ENYI

HEAD OF FINANCIAL TECHNOLOGY & INNOVATION, INTERSWITCH Nnanna leads the Financial Technology & Innovation team and has over 9 years’ experience that spans across the banking and financial technology industries. He is an Electronic Engineering graduate from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka and a member of the British Computer Society with experience in Information systems, electronic payments technology and digital financial service design and delivery across Africa. He has been instrumental to the PAN African expansion of Interswitch group with the delivery of payments infrastructure in Uganda & Gambia and is now responsible for delivering the digital financial strategy for Interswitch in Kenya.

GROUP CEO, ECLECTICS KENYA Paul R. Mbugua, Kenyan National, is a well known personality in the banking industry in Eastern, Central and Southern Africa for his contribution to the banking and ICT strategic forums. He has been instrumental in introduction and implementation of ICT automation solutions in many banks across Africa.

Paul founded Eclectics International Limited in 2007 with key focus to provide affordable locally made and supported banking automation systems. Paul also offers financial and technical advisory services in the implementation of financial inclusion and financial deepening solutions across Africa. Paul sits in a number if boards across different industries and sectors.

Stephen is an international consultant with broad expertise for over 25 years in digital financial services, payment systems, central banking practices and legal and regulatory frameworks . Prior to working as an International consultant, Stephen was in charge of the National Payments System division at the Central Bank of Kenya, where he championed financial inclusion initiatives in Kenya- key among them was the globally recognised M-Pesa platform run by Safaricom which currently has 27 million subscribers, equivalent to a penetration rate of 75% in mobile money sector.

He has considerable experience working with a wide range stakeholders in the digital financial world ( Telecommunication firms, Banks, donor organisations, Treasury, other regulators). At a regional level, he has extended his leadership expertise in the harmonisation of various initiatives at a East Africa Community ( EAC) level. At an international level, he is a regular contributor and an acclaimed global speaker at both International Telecommunications Union (ITU) and Alliance for Financial Inclusion (AFI) fora. In addition, he has excellent research capabilities and is frequently requested to carry out peer review assignments and book reviews for colleagues in the industry.

Martin is a seasoned ICT professional with 15 years’ experience in executive-level ICT management in both the private and public sectors. He has worked closely with the governments and public sector agencies of some of the larger and more vibrant economies in Sub-Saharan Africa, including Ghana, Nigeria and of course Kenya – where he is currently based, as the CIO/Director of ICT at Huduma Kenya. He spent a considerable amount of time in the growth phase of a leading technology integrator in Africa SW Global - rising to head its solution architecture practice at its head office in Accra, Ghana. He has also had a stint at Oracle Africa Operations, driving Oracle’s technology portfolio footprint in the Nigerian public sector. Acting as a trusted advisor to senior government officials, the corporate C-Suite and participating consortia on complex deals, as well as formulating and driving technology sales strategies has broadened Martin’s outlook and armed him with a valuable mix of skills. He is well versed in strategic planning, pre-sales and sales consulting, project management, enterprise architecture frameworks, IT audit, process improvement models and governance frameworks. Martin holds an MSc in Computer Science (Intelligent Agents) from Essex University, England, and a BSc Computer Science (Hons) degree from African Nazarene University.
