AboutMe Bachelor Of Science (tons) in Architecture Hello there! My name is Sammi. I am studying in Bachelor of Science (Hons) in Architecture. I think the most daring thing I have ever done is to enroll in this architecture program. There are always noises from around telling me that studying architecture is very tiring to make me give up. I try to contact seniors and ask them their opinion about studying architecture. The amazing thing is that studying architecture is fun from the seniors' point of view. In my opinion, maybe everyone sees things from a different perspective and therefore reacts differently. Before I enrolled in this course, there were many voices around me telling me to give up, and they all said that this path is not easy to take. But I am very happy that I insisted on choosing this path. I find that I enjoy the process every time I do a project/assignment. I do not think we can just deny ourselves or doubt ourselves just because others criticise and complain about us. We can relate to others' opinions, but when making a decision, we should follow our own desires and listen to the inner voice. Sometimes silence is also a process of getting to know ourself.

Italian architect best known for his high-tech public spaces, particularly his design (with Richard Rogers) for the Centre Georges Pompidou in Paris. Piano’s interest in technology and modern solutions to architectural problems was evident in all his designs, although he increasingly took greater account of the structure’s context. 2006 Pritzker Prize-winning architect Renzo Pianodrastically expanded the museum and library space with a modern addition. "The idea of the central court came to me as I thought about the ways piazzas function in the Renaissance towns of Italy."
is made from silica and contains very low amounts of iron. The low iron levels serve to remove the blueish tint that’s associated with thicker traditional glass.
PROJECT DISCRIPTION Morgan Library & Museum, which is considered as historical + contemporary building was initially designed by Architect McKim in 1906. The historical building consists of 3 parts, turn-of-the-century McKim Mead & White building; the 1928 library annex; and an 1853 brownstone mansion known as The Morgan House. . These buildings structured using heavy stone massive with neoclassical style inspired by Renaissance buildings. Architect Renzo Piano renovated this library with three transparent pavillions by using steel and glass and underground atrium 72,000 sf which required 50-foot excavation was completed in 2006.

McKim used Tennessee pink marble in a classically simple design: a rectangular structure with a recessed portico. Six Doric pilasters on either side establish the rhythm of the façade and disclose the interior organization; the entrance is accentuated by paired double Ionic columns. McKim's devotion to the Renaissance and its basis in classical antiquity is apparent in the construction as well as the design of the library: the marble blocks were fitted together in the anathyrosis method of classical Greek architecture, with a minimum of mortar. Edward Potter used clay to sculpt the contours of his work and made a plaster cast.This pair of Assyrian lionesses (1906) guard the stairs to the original entrance to the Morgan's McKim building on East 36th Street. They are the work of Edward Clark Potter (1857–1923), who would later create the stately lions that defend the terrace of the New York Public Library.

The facade is a simple rectangular structure surrounded by Doric pillars, brings together the Roman&Greek style On the entrance, however, are placed Ionic columns surrounded the entrance on either side. The Ionic columns more slender than the Doric one, justly the purpose of giving the entrance a finer look. .

A baffle is simply a small piece of cardboard, plastic or PVC. Baffles fit between the rafters and underneath the roof’s sheathing near the soffit vents. They keep the insulation from blocking the airflow into the attic. Baffles keep the insulation in place, which helps your home’s energy efficiency. also help prevent moisture from collecting in the decking in the winter, and they will help keep your roof’s shingles cool in the summer by allowing the outside air to enter through the soffit vents, up and over the baffles and then out through the vents at the top of the roof.

Baffled roof systems
Large four-story, 50-foot central glass enclosed court connects all library and museum activities and serves as a gathering space in the spirit of an Italian piazza. The glass-enclosed Gilbert Court connects the buildings and seamlessly joins the old and new, providing many views both in and out of the 151,000square-foot campus.
LOW IRON GLASS
Originally, the façade designed by McKim is a relatively simple rectangular structure, surrounded by Doric pillars. The Doric order brings together the Roman and Greek style of building. Ionic columns that surround the entrance on either side, purpose of giving the entrance a finer look. The new steel-and-glass structures by Renzo Piano preserve the historic buildings and create new modestly scaled pavilions. The pavilions are joined to the massive stone buildings by vertical slots of glass.

In 2000, RPBW was commissioned to expand the Morgan Library. The site did not allow extensions in the direction of the surrounding streets. Any intervention should therefore be carried out within the existing perimeter and must respect the historical pre-existence. It was then excavated (up to 17 meters deep) all around the buildings, to find in the subsoil the areas where to place the deposit for the collection and the Auditorium. In the space released on the surface, there were 3 pavilions that connect to the historic buildings, leaving a large "square" free for public functions. The square is the heart of the intervention, a place of rest and relationship and above all a point of distribution that facilitates the achievement of every wing of the Library. The new pavilions, the square and the three historic buildings are linked to each other by a 52f high transparent glass and steel cover.

American architect Charles Follen Mckim, expert in American Renaissance architectural style. In 1879, after several years of practice, he formed a partnership with White and William R. Mead. McKim in particular designing big country houses in Elberon, N.J., and Newport, R.I., as well as related projects like the Newport Casino and the huge, arched Narragansett Casino, also in Rhode Island.

CONCLUSION
To conclude, in my opinion, McKim had successfully fulfilled Morgan's desire whereby construct a library in whisper and not shout. The materials chosen met client's requirements, and the pinkish-white colour is not too dazzling to show. While Renzo Piano was commissioned to expand the library in 2000. His contemporary design adopted the existing historical buildings, whereby using steel and glass as the main structural materials. Today, Morgan Library has perfectly interprets the combination of ancient and modern architecture. Simple in innovative architectural style, definitely a model of future architecture.
