The Career Day 2021 This year's Career Day was arranged on Wednesday 20th of October 2021. We decided in June that the career fair itself would be conducted digitally, but that we still would arrange other physical events related to the Career Day such as CV photography, job search courses and a banquet. This decision was made on the basis of the situation around COVID-19. There were still strict restrictions at this time, and public events with so many people were discouraged. There was a good chance that the situation with the strict restrictions would ease before October, but with the experience and knowledge we had after the implementation of the digital Business Day in February, we thought that a digital career fair could be at least as good as a physical. With a digital career fair, it opened up for companies, no matter where they are located in the country, to participate. It was still not advisable to attend events if you had some symptomes. This could prevent many from attending a physical career fair. For many, there is a lot of concern associated with such large gatherings of people so soon after the pandemic. Since the Career Day should be an offer to all students and companies, we could offer a 100% safe and secure event using the career portal Graduateland. The digital career fair was conducted with 54 registered companies, 14 of which had a live presentation during the day. This resulted in many good dialogues between companies and students, and the Business Committee leaves behind a successful digital career fair.
Other events and activities In addition to the Career Day, the Business Committee has arranged a lot of other events since the last General Assembly. At the end of the spring, "Tirsdagspåfyll: Ås-Så-Videre", "company presentation and workshop" with Bearingpoint and "digital company presentation" with Multiconsult were carried out. During the autumn, it has also been allowed to arrange physical events, which had a motivating effect on both participants and organizers. We have completed events such as "Tirsdagspåfyll: New student?" with our career counselor Tone-Line, "Company presentation with VEDAL'' which included both dinner, presentation and concert, "Mental health in working life" with COWI and we look forward to carrying out the event "Tirsdagspåfyll: virkelighetens EXIT" 2th of November.
Career Fund The Career Fund consists of 15% of the total profit of the Business Committee from the previous year. This money aims to support teams and associations in arranging inclusive and career-promoting events that also lead to a good study environment. There are three deadlines a year to apply for funding from the Career Fund - 20th of March, 20th of September and 20th of November. The committee responsible
for distributing funds from the Career Fund consists of representatives from AU, the Career Center, Samfunnet in Ås and is led by the leader of the Business Committee at NMBU. Teams and associations that have previously been granted an application for support from the Career Fund include the CRE8 conference, Start NMBU, the Energy Seminar and the NITO students. So far in 2021, no funds have been distributed from the fund, and no applications have been received. We believe much of this is due to the pandemic, but also little knowledge among students about what they have the right to applycan apply for. The Business Committee will during the upcoming semesters work towards better marketing of the career fund.
Sponsorship work During 2021, the Business Committee renewed the cooperation agreement with Tekna and NITO. We are happy to be able to collaborate with these unions and hope for a good collaboration in the upcoming year. From this autumn, Samfunnet in Ås, UKA in Ås, the Business Committee and Tuntreet will be gathered and start a team within sponsorship. This is a new structure for the sponsorship work, and it will secure a more efficient coordination of the work within sponsorship. It will also hopefully lead to more and better collaboration agreements and more fluid collaboration between the agencies. It is the sponsorship team that now has all the responsibility for communication with sponsors and is led by the sponsor responsible in the Business Committee. In the future, work will also be done to ensure that future sponsorship agreements have a clearer climate focus.
Climate The Business Committee has assessed its own activities to try to reduce the organization´s climate footprint. There were few events with physical attendance during the spring, so then the emissions were limited. The majority of the greenhouse gas emissions of the Business Committee occur when transporting guests to career fairs and travel in connection with internal trips. Transport to the career fair in October was minimal, as the fair was conducted digitally. Due to restrictions and entry rules associated with COVID-19, this year's overlap trip was carried out domestically, not far from Ås. We saved ourselves too much emissions in connection with, for example, flights abroad. We will therefore consider the climate footprint for the Business Committee this autumn to be positive.
On behalf of the Board of the Business Committee,
Michelle Seigerud, leader of the Business Committee at NMBU 2021
