CASE 10: Election 10.1 The Board of Samfunnet Head of Bodega Running for election: ü Emilie Reitan Presentation of Emilie Reitan
From the time my application to NMBU got approved, I had one thing clear; I was to actively participate in Samfunnet i Ås. I applied straight into the position as a security guard, and have been a member of the security committee since 2019. With great commitment, this year I have sought new challenges and become part of the security officers. Both the committee and the work on the party nights give me a lot of joy. I enjoy working actively for everyone to feel safe and well here, like home. In addition to being part of the committee, I am a member of the Trønder union, the line association Terra forma and I am the leader of NMBU MC. Through my voluntary work and my previous experience in jobs, I have gained a lot of experience with management and the importance of a good collaboration to be able to achieve results. I like to have a lot of control and responsibility, at the same time as I have a good execution ability. Once I have decided on something, it is completed to the very best of my ability. I think this comes in handy in the operation of the house and the coordination of the bodega block.

Before I started at Ås, I took a certificate as a landscape gardener, and with a desire to work with planning and design, Landscape Architecture at NMBU was the right choice. Honorable General Assembly! My name is Fredrik Skistad, I’m studying a master’s in urban agriculture, currently on my fourth year at NMBU, and I am hereby running for election as Head of Concert for Samfunnet in Ås. I started studying in Ås back in 2018, and immediately decided that I wanted to work with lights. Thus, I joined the Light Committee of Samfunnet and worked as a volunteer during UKA i Ås 2018. All of this left me wanting more, and since then, that is what I have been doing. Throughout my years in Ås I have also worked as Technical director for UKA i Ås 2020 and as chief of the Light Committee, and for the past six months I have been member of both the Disco and the Light Committee. Aside from this, I was part of
hosting a concert together with Urban Lab at Bikuben this September. The Concert Block is currently in a truly exciting situation. Together with great colleagues I have been pushing through an investment project for stage-technical equipment. The investments have led to several thousands in savings per concert, which used to go to renting equipment for lights and sound. Less costs going to lights and sound means more money to host great concert- and event experiences for the members. As we approach the third year of this investment project, I am certain that my ownership of the project and past experiences make me well equipped to make an even greater difference in the role as Head of Concert. Even greater savings in rental costs -> Even better concert experiences. As Head of Concert I will focus on collaboration and forming a good social environment, not to mention creating great concert experiences. Together with the Concert Block’s diligent chiefs, I aim to raise the quality and maybe even the quantity of the concerts at Samfunnet. I also wish to maintain the unique social arena that I have been blessed with being a part of during my time here at Ås. Samfunnet i Ås has been my home away from home for the past 3,5 years, and I want to keep contributing for the rest of my studies. Head of Administration Running for election: ü Anna Imsgard Strøm Presentation of Anna Imsgard Strøm
Honorable General Assembly! My name is Anna Imsgard Strøm, and I hereby stand for election as Head of Administration for Samfunnet i Ås. I am 22 years old, from a small village in Flatanger in Trøndelag. Now I’m on my 4th year of my master’s degree “Teacher Education in Natural Sciences” at NMBU. Since early childhood I have been engaged in different activities and organizations such as 4H and music and theater. So for me it was only natural to continue to participate in the student society from my first day as a student at NMBU. During the buddy week I was convinced that Samfunnet and UKA was something I wanted to be a part of, so I volunteered as a member of the food committee and as UKEgrill-volunteer. In addition to everything going on at Samfunnet I wanted to learn more about the different student associations and clubs at NMBU, and my choice fell on Trøndernes Fagforening (Skål!). Being a part of this has offered me both challenges and opportunities for growth
and learning, and now I am the leader of this association. This experience has made me realize that I enjoy challenges. It motivates me to do my very best, which I believe is an advantage for me and the association. When the comittee chief announcements for UKA 2020 came out I just had to apply, and I became the chief of chairs and tables. It was through this position I saw that administrative work is something I really like. When the position as the assistant for the Head of Administration was announced I just had to apply to that as well. Through this position I have become well acquainted with the other committee chiefs at Samfunnet, especially the ones in the Administration, and I have learned to use Linticket. After a year as the assistant for the Head of Administration I’m ready for new administrative challenges. I am structured, hardworking and solution orientated, and I know how things are organized at Samfunnet. People say I have a positive attitude, good work ethics and that I am a team player. These are qualities, I believe are important when you administer a position as Head of Administration. I have a sincere commitment for the student environment at NMBU. After being a part of Samfunnet for 3 years I have acquired a lot of knowledge and experience about it, so now I’m ready to take responsibility as Head of Administration. I’m highly motivated, and I will put in the effort required for the administrative tasks to be solved in the way best possible. 10.2 Tuntreet Editor Running for election: ü Sofie Bergset Janols

borrow from the Tuntreet-office, I quickly realized that Tuntreet is not like any other student newspaper. Maybe because it is the student newspaper in Ås, which is definitely not like any other place to study. Anyways, I was fascinated by how much fun, exciting and weird stuff I could find in these old issues. I was also grateful that Tuntreet had eternalized this so that a corona-freshman like me could read about the fantastic Ås-spirit. As an editor I want to keep doing this: capture the Ås-spirit. I want Tuntreet to provide a good picture of what’s happening here in Ås; The student life, the student democracy, the traditions and all the engagement. At the same time I want Tuntreet to be a source of enlightenment; Talk about what’s happening at NMBU, about research, about changes that are affecting us students. Make structures like the student democracy and Samfunnet as understandable as possible so that the threshold for joining them is even a bit lower. I also want Tuntreet to bring up things the students care about. Bring up taboos, open up for debates, hear the perspectives of our international students. Shortly summed up I want to include as much and as many as possible in Tuntreet. That’s not possible without the editorial staff.
Honorable general assembly! My name is Sofie Bergset Janols and I am running for the position as the editor of Tuntreet. I am 22 years old, and on my second year of the bachelor in international environment and development studies. Apart from this, I am the treasurer in Spire, I’m in the program council, and I write in Tuntreer. One of the first things I did when I came to Ås last year was to apply as a journalist in Tuntreet. I’ve always enjoyed writing, and thought that the student newspaper was a natural place to go. After having looked through some old issues I was allowed to
Tuntreet is nothing without all those hardworking and talented people who give a lot of time and energy in publishing an issue every 3rd week. I wanna be the editor they deserve, and make sure that they get a big enough thank for their efforts. I want to do this through organizing social gatherings, courses, by being present, and of course by giving space for all of feedback, creative freedom and ideas. 10.3 The Business Committee Leader Running for election: ü Nora Christine Hjelme

Honorable general assembly! My name is Nora Christine Hjelme. I am 21 years old and come from Trondheim. Here at NMBU I study Real Estate and am now in my fourth year. During my time here at Ås, I have had the pleasure of having small and large positions. The positions have given me the opportunity to take part in various parts of student life and provided a basis and motivation for a larger position. I am therefore running for election as chair of Næringslivsutvalget at NMBU. During my time as a student, I have seen and experienced the importance of having knowledge of business. Næringslivsutvalget at NMBU does an incredibly important job here by being a link between students and business. They provide students with knowledge and experiences from the business world that they
would not otherwise have received from their studies, as well as the opportunity to participate in career-promoting events. It seems very instructive and rewarding to be able to be part of a board that works with just this. I will do my utmost to ensure that Næringslivsutvalget at NMBU continues to be the most important link between the business and the students. After almost four years at Ås, I have had the opportunity to get involved in most of what the student life has to offer. I joined early an social forening where I am now finished as a leader. Within the student democracy, I have had the pleasure of being a student representative for my class, student representative in the program council for real estate and buddy leader for the faculty LANDSAM. I have also spent a year as administration responsible in the charity UnitedAid. These positions have given me the opportunity to get involved in the student democracy and my studies. I have learned the importance of good planning and communication, and this is something I also want to take with me in new positions. In their whole, these positions have taught me to work well in teams. Of course, it is important to provide input and your own opinions, but it is equally important to see and understand the rest of the team's different perspectives. These are qualities I think come in handy as leader of Næringslivsutvalget at NMBU, and which make me the right candidate. Those who know me describe me as a person with a great commitment, drive and a lot of energy. I like to have a lot to do, and have learned to be solution-oriented, structured and goal-oriented. Honorable general meeting! My name is Helene Drechsler. I'm 22 years old old girl from Tromsø. At NMBU I study Property Law and am currently on my fourth year. During my studies at NMBU, I have been involved on various platforms, both in the Student Democracy and in the association life at Ås. Now I want new challenges and I am therefore applying to for the position as administrasjonsansvarlig for Næringslivsutvalget. Positions such as student council representative for LANDSAM, delegate for NMBU in NSO, committee work and association life have contributed to a greater understanding of the importance of using one's voice and engaging in issues one cares about. In addition, it has given me insight into the importance of creating good relationships and good teamwork. This is experience I want to keep developing in NU.
Næringslivsutvalget is undoubtedly an important link between students and the business community. I myself am at the end of my studies and have experienced that the knowledge and offers created through the work in NU are relevant both for the students and for the business community. This is something I want to take an active part in. As a person, I am neat, responsible and committed. I think these are qualities that will fit well with the work as an administrasjonsansvarlig. As administrasjonsansvarlig, I want to continue working for a good collaboration with the line associations. It will thus be important to create good platforms for information and dissemination of knowledge between the various actors. Furthermore, I will try to solve the administrative tasks both professionally and efficiently. I hope you will give me the confidence to carry out this important task.

After UKA, I stood for election to be Head of Social Activities in the student organization of my study program; Robotnik. The position covers marketing and social activities, and I have had it for almost a year. I enjoyed being creative and decided to apply to become part of the student ambassador SOME-team. The team's purpose is to market NMBU to potential students, and together with my other positions, it has taught me the importance of good communication skills and independence and allowed me to explore my creativity. I am now seeking new challenges, and hope to get the chance to further evolve through being Head of Marketing in The Business Committee. NMBU is known for its skilled students, and we need to be made aware of the range of opportunities that awaits after graduation. I would be happy and honored to perform this important responsibility.
Honorable General Assembly! My name is Vishnupriya Jayachandran. I am 19 years old and comes from Bærum, and I am currently in my second year of my master's degree in Applied Robotics I hereby stand for election as Head of Marketing in The Business Committee. I came to Ås straight from high school hoping for a social everyday life. Despite enrolling during the pandemic, I found this in Ås. During my first year, I got to experience UKA, where I volunteered in billett- og effekt in salgsblokka. The experience gave me an interesting insight into different aspects of Samfunnet and the student life and highly motiviated me to continue volunteering and be an even bigger part of studentsamfunnet.
I hope to be given the trust to market NMBU through NU, and promise to perform my duties the best I can if given the chance.

10.4 The Board of House and Finance External Representative x2 Running for election: ü Anne-Marte Kværner ü Erik Sand

Honorable General Assembly! My name is Erik Sand, and I hereby run for election as external representative at the Board of House and Finance. After five good years at Ås, I finished a master's degree in geomatics this spring, and work life started the following week. Five months have passed since I moved to Oslo, and I have noticed that my spare time is increasing. Some of this spare time I want to spend working for Studentsamfunnet i Ås. Five years on Ås has slipped away, and many hours have been spent on and for Samfunnet. These experiences qualify me for the Board of House and Finance. In the fall of 2019, I was elected Deputy Chairman of Samfunnsstyret 2020, and as corona made its way to Ås, much of the dayto-day operations were halted. Work in
Samfunnsstyret then started a different focus, budgeting and planning for the different opening degrees (200 or 500 guests, two-part house, etc.). Focus on finance is a core in the Board of House and Finance, and an everchanging corona budget can be a useful experience. At Samfunnet, I have worked as a security guard, Festansvarlig (FA), KS (chief of security) and Skjenkevakt. This has given me a good knowledge of the building, both challenges with conservation value and how it best could be used by volunteers and members. This is something I want to build on, as the Board of House and Finance looks at the long-term investments, and how the building at Olav L. Moens plass 1 will house the student mass in the best possible way. As Deputy Chariman, I worked a lot with operation and maintenance of Samfunnsbyggningen, something I want to continue with. As an active member of Samfunnet for 5 years, I have used many of the services Samfunnet has. Everything from weekly choir rehearsals in the choir room, dinners in the dining rooms, revue rehearsals until late at night, and not least, parties. The overview of the opportunities Samfunnet obtains for its members, is something that House and Finance should keep in mind when looking at how the building and operation should be further. In my spare time, I am above average interested in history, and “Samfunnet 100 år” and “150 år” is kept on the bedside table. Insight into history will contribute in looking at solutions made before, both what has worked and what not. I hope you place your trust in me to continue working for and with Thorvald and Tora. Presentation of Anne-Marte Kværner Dear General Assembly, My name is Anne-Marte Kvaerner, I’m originally from Ørje and I live Ski now. I have obtained a MSc in Economics from the Norwegian University of Life Sciences (NMBU) and I also have a degree in accounting from the Norwegian School of Economics (NHH). I work as an accountant for Deloitte in Oslo Since the fall of 2020 I have been an external representative in the Housing and Finance Board. In 2015/2016 I was involved in the work to create a strategy for Samfunnet towards 2025. I want to see this strategi come to life and I want to follow up this. I have previous experiences from various positions and tasks at Samfunnet and I find it exciting to follow Samfunnet also after my studies. When I was a student I held the position of chief accountant for a few years and with a job as an accountant I do love numbers. I wish to use my experience and knowledge to help ensure good financial management at Samfunnet. This I way i´m running for two new year’s in the Housing and Finance Board.
