THIS YEAR, we are excited to bring back our Celebration of Scholars in Art & Architecture to the Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts—a longtime tradition that became virtual during the pandemic and then took different forms as part of campus-wide events. Historically, this has been a special moment to honor our generous scholarship donors, to recognize our talented recipients, and to be inspired by student and alumni voices. We are delighted to be able to gather as a community once again to mark the critical importance of student support.
Our students are at the heart of everything we do at the Sam Fox School, and we only need to look at the extraordinary successes of our alumni across the country and around the world to understand the value of our work.
If we are to continue educating creative cultural producers and leaders to address global challenges, we must open the university’s doors wider to students from all backgrounds. That’s why we recently made a series of institutional commitments to our students, including adopting need-blind admissions and no-loan financial aid policies for all undergraduates.
We are grateful to the loyal WashU community, whose generosity has brought us this far. Now, through the Make Way Initiative, we are securing additional resources to sustain our commitments to our students in perpetuity. To date, we have raised $450 million through Make Way. In addition, we have increased donorsupported scholarships for Sam Fox School graduate students by 88% in the last five years! These investments make advanced study in art, architecture, and design more accessible and limit burdensome debt as our students enter the professional world.
In fiscal year 2024, Sam Fox School donors gave $1.51 million for scholarship support, including four new annual scholarships and six new endowed scholarships. With each gift, the school is more equipped to shape the next generation of leaders in our fields who will leave their mark and help fulfill our mission to create a more just, sustainable, humane, and beautiful world.
We are deeply indebted to our scholarship patrons whose commitment to student success is a driving engine for the Sam Fox School. Your ongoing dedication makes this night of celebration possible.
