ARCHITECTURE
2019–2020
Join our community of architects and designers. The Sam Fox School of Design & Visual Arts offers a rigorous architecture program within a dynamic, cross-disciplinary campus. Our courses engage actual sites and tackle complex social, cultural, and environmental challenges. You’ll graduate with the tools to design beautiful, innovative, and sustainable architectural environments, and become a more creative thinker and designer.
15/1
student-faculty ratio in most studio classes promotes individualized attention and a positive creative culture.
We believe that you learn by doing. Our program provides for hands-on, real-world engagement, both in the St. Louis community and beyond.
DEGREES
Our program balances architectural education with a strong liberal arts base. We offer two degree tracks that allow you to individualize your educational experience. Students on both tracks may pursue minors, second majors, and dual degrees.
Bachelor of Science in Architecture. A more architecture-intensive experience, and an optimum springboard to graduate school.
Bachelor of Arts in Architecture. A more flexible course of study that allows you to take additional electives in other areas of interest across the University.
CURRICULUM
Our program is centered around the design studio, which emphasizes craft and making. Students work collaboratively with faculty, exploring a wide array of media and techniques, including freehand drawing and computer-aided design. You’ll also study building technology, architectural history and theory, and take classes in many fields that interest you—art, engineering, computer science, psychology, business, and more.
CAREERS
Your education here will prepare you for lifelong success in any career you choose. Our graduates have become worldwide leaders in architecture, as well as in sustainability, development, landscape architecture, urban design, furniture design, interior design, and fashion design. They include Fulbright Prize-winning architects, founders of major firms, and artist-urbanists selected for the Venice Biennale.
Spacious facilities support all kinds of making with a new digital fabrication lab, 3D printers, laser cutters, dedicated wood and metal shops, and more.
Our six-building complex includes the recently completed Weil Hall, which provides new spaces for design, installation, and collaboration. It is adjacent to the Kranzberg Art & Architecture Library and the recently expanded Kemper Art Museum, where students enjoy free membership.
