Welcome to the latest version of the Samen NZ breeding guide

We are proud to offer a wide range of genetic options that suit the diverse farming systems in New Zealand. Many bulls in this catalogue have been carefully selected to thrive in the New Zealand grazing and seasonal production systems, and several are now making their way onto the NZAEL RAS list.
However, despite being selected on genomic data for traits such as udder overall and fertility BVs, many bulls on today's RAS list still have poor and substandard individual scores for these traits. This suggests that New Zealand’s genomic selection may not be as effective as it could be. On the other hand, Samen's introduction of international genetics is yielding impressive results above their early conversions and predictions.
The gNZI provides a more accurate and reliable selection tool, enabling us as a breeding company and you as commercial farmers to improve udders and fertility in your herds with greater confidence.
Genetic gain in New Zealand has fallen behind other countries, particularly in the Holstein Friesian breed. Therefore, there is an urgent need to introduce more overseas genetics to avoid falling further behind.
Samen NZ is dedicated to delivering results through various genetic programs. Our Three Way Cross, the introduction of alpine and Scandinavian breeds, and our high-performance double muscling beef options are gaining popularity due to their excellent results.
Our experienced and practical staff are here to help you select the best and most profitable long-term solutions for your farm.
We are excited to work with you to build better herds and look forward to helping you achieve your breeding goals.
