This year mobile phone charging proceeds will support the charity Glasgow Night Shelter for Destitute Asylum Seekers. The organisation began in December 2011 to provide somewhere safe and warm to stay overnight for people who because of their immigration status cannot access normal homeless services. Located in a church hall and run almost entirely by volunteers the shelter provides a hot meal and somewhere safe to stay for up to 15 every night, 365 nights of the year, including Christmas Day and Hogmanay. www.glasgownightshelter.org Cover illustration by Nemotode Festival Guide design by Doug Summers Graphics Photography by Graham Wynne and Douglas Robertson amongst others

We hope you have your unicorn horns packed. We are going to make history by breaking a world record. On Saturday at 4pm we will ask everyone to stop what they are doing to gather together and be counted, wearing their (eligible) unicorn horns. More information on what is eligible inside. And if you have forgotten your horn, don’t worry we can sort you out with horn making workshops and horns available at the festival shop.

Unicorn spotting isn’t all we are here for though.. We have some incredible music and arts in store for you. From across Scotland, traditional and up and coming acts - from further afield, the legendary reggae icon Max Romeo and the Cuban diva La Dame Blanche. Another international act we are particularly excited about is Filastine, a multi media duo working to undermine borders. Hailing from Brooklyn and Jakarta via Barcelona they have presented an audiovisual feast of future bass music in venues, festivals, protests and refugee camps around the world. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to catch these acts in the hills!

The unicorn is an ancient creature of myth dating back to the 5th century BC and it’s also the national animal of Scotland! It was believed to exist right up to the 19th century. Perhaps they still do… Keep an eye out for what you might see in our mountain valley.

Let your hair down, relax and enjoy being part of the Knockengorroch family. Lets celebrate diversity in all its forms in the great Scottish upland landscape. Look after yourselves, look after others, dance, sing, swim and live. See you out there… The Knock family and team

Free the Unicorn at Knockengorroch! Unicorns are an amazing Scottish Mythical Creature and Scotland’s National Animal, but they’re chained on the Royal Coat of Arms...

The rules from the Guinnness Book of Records are: 1. Each participant must wear a single conical horn on the centre of their head or forehead. The horn must be a single pointed protrusion, simulating keratin and bone, and can be attached to a headband or hat. 2. The horn must be immediately recognisable as a unicorn’s horn, and may be spiraled.

Rumour has it that is because a free unicorn is a dangerous beast… But we heard it governs through harmony and peace! Lets free the unicorn at Knockengorroch World Ceilidh 2017! We are going to beat the Guinness World Record for the largest gathering of people wearing unicorn horns. To be counted you need one horn on the centre of your head or forehead. It can be homemade, bought, attached to a headband or a hat. It just needs to look like a horn. Multi-coloured horns are fine.

3. Participants not wearing an appropriate horn must not be included in the end total. largest gathering of people wearing unicorn horns

CURRENT RECORD: 250 WHAT WILL HAPPEN From 4.15 to 5.15pm on Saturday all stages and activities will stop. Everyone will be asked to congregate in front of the Bo Airigh Stage (the Shieling if weather is bad) to be counted wearing their unicorn horns. If you have forgotten to bring a horn East Ayrshire Woodlands will help you make one out of rhododendron. The kids area will be running unicorn horn making workshops. You will also be able to pick up a horn at the festival shop. We will announce the winners of the best horn just afterwards from the stage.

A word from Bonny

(Trustee Linkylea Trust/Director Linkylea Festival)

I first went out to India in 2001 as a volunteer, little did I know that 15 years on I would still be heavily involved and working alongside some amazing people to improve the lives of the incredibly resilient children and young adults I met. The Linkylea Trust was set up in 2009. We are a small charity that cares passionately about helping the disadvantaged and it is a priority for us to ensure that all money raised is used efficiently and effectively. Love and Warm Wishes, Bonny Squair Xx
