PERSONAL STATEMENT RESUME

My interest in interior design spans back as far as I can remember. Throughout my childhood, the common question “what do you want to be when you grow up” was presented to me. When asking a child that well-loved question, you will rarely hear the response “interior designer”. My go-to answer was to be a teacher, but I soon discovered that was the root of my interest in interior design. It was not just the teaching I was interested in, but being able to help others, have sensitivity to a person’s environment, and being able to design a classroom. It was not until my senior year of high school that realized I wanted to pursue a career as an interior designer. believe that subconsciously was always fascinated with the concept of design, it just took many years to correlate my interests with my desired career. I enjoy traveling whether it be states away or experiencing a new local place. Being placed in an environment with new surroundings allows me to observe the design and how people interact within it. My love for movies also stems from design. I am fascinated with the design of different film sets and how they coincide with the movies’ themes. Even when visiting a new home, I can not help but observe the interiors of homes and how people function inside. After my realization, I soon knew that I wanted to expand my knowledge and take the next step toward my dream.

Receiving education in the Interior Architecture and Design Program improves my real-life qualities and increases my desire to be an interior designer. The qualities I have seen grow stronger throughout my education include creativity, communication, time management, empathy, and problem-solving. Seeing myself grow as a person while participating in something I love may sound simple, but it reassures me that am on the right path. feel encouraged to step out of my comfort zone and live up to the demands of this constantly changing world. Designs affect lives long after a project is finished, and impacting lives through my work is what I’ve always wanted to accomplish.

find interior design so gratifying because I get to express my creative and technical thoughts. My perfectionism and attention to detail can be frustrating at times. However, this field taught me mistakes are an essential thing to experience and grow from. For every project that have been given the opportunity to do, I fall in love with each concept. Each design concept develop is unique due to every client having different needs. enjoy looking into the technicalities during my research and putting those tiny details into a composition of a project. During my studies, I was taught the three words form, function, and finish. A design can look appealing, but without proper function it becomes useless. My favorite part of designing is inputting those details used to make a space optimally functional. I often find myself role-playing as the client and envisioning how livable the area is day-to-day. Imagining the client enjoying the small details satisfies me and is a goal I have as I progress towards a career.

Seeing the progress have made so far, I am thrilled to see what more I can learn. I am constantly growing as an up-and-coming designer, and I know there is still plenty of room for improvement. As I learn and experience what it takes to be an interior designer, find myself more eager for the future.

The shelving space holds emergency supplies so that they are visible and easy to grab in a hurry. The roof is at a 30 degree angle so that the solar panels have maximum exposure to direct sunlight. Corrugated iron is used on the roof as well as the shower walls because it is durable and light weight. The windows are double glazed with toughned class for extra protection.

The interior is built to be simple and easy to use. These two views are what the inside would look like with the fireproof shutters in action. With the stairs having storage underneath it allows storage for other emergency supplies such as food and water supply, batteries, clothing, and family valuables. WORKPLACE MAILCHIMP OFFICE

This office design was developed specifically for Mailchimp workers. While work environments tend to be the most dreaded, boring, and stress-evoking places, the goal in this space is to counteract these cons using sensory stimulation. The five senses bring vibrancy to our lives and utilizing them in my space creates a positive environment for the employees.

Team photos showcase the Mailchimp family and give employees a sense of belonging.

Elevations

The snack station stimulates the employee’s sense of taste. Giving a healthy option not only benefits their energy levels but also boosts their creativity.

This planter divider helps to privatize workspaces while also being functional. Using the sense of touch, employees are encouraged to write their ideas on whiteboards.

Music has been known to improve mood and relaxation, however, not everyone likes the same music. While wanting to stimulate all five senses, designing a music therapy room was a crucial aspect of this space. Being a separate room, it keeps away distractions from the rest of the space and has a variety of musical options. Employees can listen to music as well as play

COMPACT RESTAURANT

Ansel’s AYCE is designed to be a hybrid between a cafe and a buffet featuring chef Dominique Ansel’s famous pastries. The AYCE amenity simply gives customers the option to try whatever they desire in whatever amount of time. Being in an airport, travelers are all in different situations. In this space, travelers can enjoy their food on the go or while lounging prior to their flight.

Adding a bakery counter in the cafe gives travelers a to-go option for quick service.

The sofas in the space give a comfortable option for customers that prefer to lounge while waiting for their flight.

Semi-Private Booth

The high-top seating located across from the buffet table features a plant wall. This adds to the overall aesthetic of the design while giving more seating options for customers. The space also includes other seating options such as the banquet space and patio seating. To add privacy, there are also wooden dividers between the rounded banquet seating.

It is important for this design to have men’s and women’s restrooms that are ADA accessible. The green tiling on the wall stays in the theme with the rest of the restaurant design and adds contrast to the white stalls. Even though the outdoor patio is inside an airport, eating in a more open area is preferred by some. To make the patio feel as outdoor as a typical patio would, I included faux vines and planter dividers.

NY STUDIO APARTMENT

For Tyler, the Creator

This Studio Apartment located in New York City is designed for American rapper and Record producer, Tyler, the Creator. Tyler is known as a creative genius in his fashion design, video directing, and music. This space was developed so that the client can comfortably live while exercising his creativity. The color palette and materiality fits his aesthetic being flamboyant and whimsical.

The kitchen and dining space uses notes of pastel blue which is a prevalent color throughout Tyler’s fashion line Golf Le Fleur. The wallpaper in the kitchen is also a Golf Le Fleur Pattern that he created. The storage lockers at the entry give the client a storage option while fitting his aesthetic.

A custom transformable bookcase-totable was developed to have different functions and free up more space when needed. Knowing that Tyler is an entertainment junky, the living space is equipped with a large TV and his favorite gaming consoles. The music nook underneath the stairs acts as a creative space where he can listen to his favorite vinyl records as well as create music.

Custom Skateboard

Table

One of the client’s main hobbies is skateboarding, so I designed a custom piece with storage space in the shape of a skateboard. The second floor of this apartment an open but personal space for him. Because the client is frequently working, he also has a desk available to him to work on his music or other projects.

AGING IN PLACE HOME

The Franklin Habitat

This project uses Evidence Based Design (EBD) to create a livable home for multiple generations and implement the Biophilia Hypothesis. The residences key goals include aging in place, fitting the needs of multiple generations, and to minimize environmental impacts. This house accomodates four long term residents, two visiting grandparents, and extra company for parties.

Exterior View

The exterior uses aluminum wall facade cladding panels from TBKmetal to achieve a geometrical shape. Aluminum is lighter than steel and resistant to rust. This material is cost effective and low maintenence. These are also a sustainable choice by being recyclable and produced from post-consumerscrap.

Concept Statement

Sketch

This design reflects the evolutionary successes that originate from the African Savanna. The Savanna desert is a place of transition and transformation, allowing humans to adapt to the specific circumstances that arise. The Franklin Habitat coincides with nature just like humans have done to achieve evolutionary advancements. This home is a habitat, meaning it consists of components that fit to work together similar to an ecosystem in the Savanna desert. The central backyard with connections to multiple areas around the home represents the interconnectedness humans have in hand with nature. The homes shape itself represents nature with a rock-like identity. The design has a strong connection with our evolutionary past and provides a bright future for aging in place, allowing it to be timeless.
