Pittsburgh Public Schools is looking for a new model for the public education system, one that will address inequality and disadvantages among low-income students. The focus of this school is to shift academics from teacher-led to student-led, which will be done through creating learning communities. These customizable and adaptable learning communities promote collaboration and mentorship among students and teachers to give them real world skills. The design of the school creates a welcoming environment that students feel empowered to explore their future to create future success. Through the use of bright colors and agile furniture, students are able to learn in an environment that gives them confidence and meets their needs.

Allegheny hospital is planning to redesign their oncology wing. They are in need of a functional space for both patients and staff.

Inspired by the labyrinth, this design focuses on the power of the individual by allowing for customization throughout the healing process.

Earth tones are used to calm patients and help them feel centered.

Incorporating movement into the details and circulation of the space reduces the feeling of isolation, creating a seamless look that is both clean and comfortable.

La Roche University is looking to renovate their student union to make it more versatile towards students’ social and academic needs.

This design utilizes bohemian patterns while incorporating the famous red and black colors the school is known for.

A variety of study spaces were included such as independent study bars and group rooms so students can work where they are most comfortable.

In order to make the space more lively, the bottom floor incorporates indoor swings and large indoor yard games to bring a sense of community on campus.

Buzzhoney, a non-traditional market research firm is seeking to move to a new office that represents their values and employees.

The design is inspired by the movement and energy of the worker bee. To mimic movement, various patterns and textures were used to give the illusion of movement.

The contrast between geometric and organized shapes engages the user of the space while keeping motivation high.

A mixture of light and dark colors indicates the separation of public and private spaces while keeping them cohesive and welcoming.

Lark hotels is in need of a corporate office that can mimic the historic and adventurous charm from their hotels. The design incorporates bold jewel tones and citrus colors mixed with unique works of art and quirky furniture pieces. Textures are an essential part of the design and they are layered with natural fabrics. Many homeless youths drop out of school because they do not have the resources or support they need. They are often forced to switch schools and fall behind on academics. Many students are reluctant to ask for help because they do not want to be ashamed. To give students the resources they need to be successful in school through additional support. They will have access to tutors and a safe place to work. This kiosk will utilize elements of the rain forest to support students like the trees support the animals.

This light fixture is an abstract representation of the band Journey and the themes they represent within their album covers. The band uses a Scarab beetle within each album cover. The beetle derives from ancient Egypt mythology and represents rebirth, the sun, and creation. The wings represent rebirth, which is represented by the panels. The six geometric panels around the exterior are an abstraction of the wings of the beetle. The theme represents creation, which is symbolized by gaps. The string connects each panel to each other but the gaps where the light can penetrate from contribute to the outer space idea. The color of the string also helps showcase the movement.
