Letter from the Editor Dear Salysians, So, how is your wardrobe surviving the pandemic? Have you sorted through your closet and found some items you forgot about? Have you invested in some new pieces? Or, have you recycled and put back in circulation some old but beloved pieces? For those video calls/meetings/classes are you fully dressed? Or, would people be scared or amused by what you are wearing outside of camera range? Nothing fits better than that old, cotton t-shirt from that cherised vacation, amazing concert, or organization that you whole-heartedly support. Right?!?! I do hope the pages of SALYSÉ bring just a little bit of joy to your day. As always, I hope you enjoy your escape! Be well. Be kind. Be patient. Hugs and Love, Sonya Alyse Lawyer SALYSÉ, Founder and Editor in Chief

Meet Photographer Scott Parker Hometown: South Kent, Connecticut

Your zodiac sign? Leo

How did you get started? Tell us a little about yourself. Between 7th & 8th grade, I was at a summer camp that had a small black & white darkroom. My high school also had a wet darkroom, so I borrowed my parent’s Canon FT-b and started taking photos of my friends on skateboards and dirt bikes. After school, I worked with a whitewater kayak manufacturer as an athlete, salesman, and design consultant while training for Olympic team trials. To maintain some of my sponsorships, I took photos on the river, documenting both Olympic hopefuls and weekend warrior athletes. After failing to crack the top 20 in the sport, I returned to grad school to study painting and printmaking. While in school, I found myself spending more time with a camera than with a paintbrush. I finished the degree and have been teaching drawing, art history, printmaking, and photography at a NYC area university. My old whitewater connections got me an introduction to the photo studio for Ethan Allen Furniture, who are currently my biggest client. I started exploring fashion, initially, as a way to step outside my own comfort zone, but quickly fell in love with the collaborative environment of a fashion photo shoot.

What’s your favorite quote? “It’s better to create something that others criticize than to create nothing and criticize others.” Ricky Gervais

Three adjectives to describe yourself. creative compassionate obsessive What do you enjoy the most about photography? Communication. What person, living or dead, would you love to photograph? Daisy Ridley What country would you love to shoot in? Italy or Austria. I have been to both for school and would love to go back to work. What is your idea of perfect happiness? Just having completed an important project and being able to sit in the doorway of my garage/workshop to work on something creative, in early May, 72 degrees, at the time of day when the local bobcat or fox walks down my driveway, pausing when it recognizes me, then continuing its hunt or journey to the creek at the end of my property.

Dream vacation you would like to take (or have taken)? An entire summer in an RV with my kayak and camera, travelling to the rivers and mountains of the U.S. What’s your theme song? “Better Get It In Your Soul” by Charles Mingus If you had the opportunity to meet any photographer, living or dead, who would it be?
