SALYSÉ Magazine is a photography magazine, featuring beauty, fashion, and conceptual art editorials. We do not seek to define beauty with one narrow idea, but with a myriad of viewpoints Vintage is right next to emerging designers, who are right next to established designers. We are looking for creatives who push the envelope, take chances, and disregard the status quo. SALYSÉ Magazine is about sophistication, authenticity, with a touch of eccentricity. ---------FOLLOW https://instagram.com/salysemagazine/ LIKE https://www.facebook.com/salysemagazine SUBSCRIBE http://issuu.com/salysemagazine PURCHASE http://www.magcloud.com ---------Not just a magazine— a movement!

Letter from the Editor

Dear Salysians, Do you follow “Kid President”? (www.kidpresident.com) You should. His posts always bring a smile to my face! The other day on Facebook he posted a quote that read, “Doing nothing is a great way to change nothing.” Start with the first step, and see where that leads. Change is good!

Black, White, and Little Red Photographer: Sonya A. Lawyer; Model: Kyler Garner | T H E Artist Agency; Make Up Artist: Brittany Rogers; Hair Stylist: Keisha George; Dress: Dom Streater.

I am so happy to bring you the second year of SALYSÉ. I made a few changes. We are now published bi-monthly. Added some more text, changed some fonts, revamped the cover. I hope you like the changes. Any questions, concerns, suggestions, or even just a friendly note of encouragement, (we all need a little encouragment every now and then) feel free to email me at editor@salyse.com. As always, I hope you enjoy your escape! Hugs and Love, Sonya Alyse Lawyer Founder & Editor in Chief SALYSÉ Magazine PS Thank you to contributing photographer Cheshire Isaacs for coining the term “Salysians” to describe our loyal followers!!!

I took inspiration from Phantasos, a Greek God of dreams, who morphs into imagery of earth, rock, water, wood, and other raw elements along with the Metamorphik collection— inspired by nature at its most creative— for a collided transformation. This ignited a look that defines hyperreflectivity with intense explosive texture to create an unexpected metamorphosis. -Nekesa Mohler

Meet Cover Model Kyler Garner How did you get started modeling? One day, I went into So Serene Salon to get my eyebrows done and the owner, Carla Williams Hines, who had previously worked with THE Artist Agency in the past talked to me and thought I’d be a great fit at the agency. I then submitted some photos online, came in for a meeting, and before you know it here I am! What do you enjoy the most about modeling? Such a hard question but I would have to say it’s the feeling when you’re on the runway, it’s like an escape, your adrenaline is rushing and you feel like it’s just you and the runway, unstoppable I’d say.

What’s your theme song? “Cater 2 U” by Destiny’s Child What’s your favorite quote? “This too shall pass.” Favorite movie? Mean Girls Favorite actor? Will Smith Favorite actress? Taraji P. Henson

What do you not enjoy about modeling? Probably just the stereotypes placed on models and people who make negative assumptions about us.

Your zodiac sign? Scorpio

Favorite color? Pinky Coral & Turquoise

What zodiac sign do you get along with the most? Other Scorpios and Virgos

Favorite food? Salmon, Sushi and Lasagna

What person, living or dead, do you admire the most? Why? My sister Jeanelle. Even though people have tried to bring her down and not supported her, she is so strong and continues to prove all of those who doubt her wrong.

What do you do when you are not modeling? Well, I’m in my last year of high school so usually battling senioritis, doing homework, playing volleyball, or dancing. What would be your dream assignment? Ever since I was a child my dream has always been to be on the cover of Vogue and to see myself on a billboard. Speak it into existence, where do you see yourself in 5 years? In 5 years, I see myself at the height of my career, traveling the world, and appearing in various international magazines and ads. Where do you see yourself in 10 years? In 10 years I can see myself continuing my career as a fashion stylist/consultant, with some modeling as we all know that modeling is usually a short lived career as we age. Hopefully settling down with a nice man and getting married.

If a genie granted you three wishes, what would they be? 1) A blank check 2) Become a household name as a model 3) Down the line to find an amazing husband and [have] a healthy family Last book you read? The Bluest Eye Anything else you want the readers to know about you? I’ve spoken French since I was in kindergarten.
