Letter from the Editor Dear Salysians, Imagine this...

One minute you are working at your desk making good progress on your very long To Do List. You get up to pour yourself a caffeinated beverage to squeeze out a few more hours in your day, and next thing you know, you are flat on your back in the worst pain you have ever felt in your life (and you know pain because you have had two major surgeries.)

An emergency room and too many to count doctors’ visits later you wonder if life will ever return to normal? The answer is: after a couple months of physical therapy; hopefully, yes.

Unfortunately, sometimes the unexpected happens.

Or, in the vernacular: SHIT HAPPENS! I sincerely apologize for the delays in publishing the last of the May and June issues.

I am honored that you entrust me with publishing your editorials, and I take that privilege very seriously, but right now SALYSÉ is just me, myself, and I, and “I” am in a lot of pain!

Thank you for your patience and kindness as I work to slowly, but surely, catch up.

ABOUT RENAISSANCE Taking our cues from recent shows by artists like Gucci’s Alessandro Michele (at the Palazzo Pitti in Florence https:// youtu.be/Q2ITNA8gBTE) and Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld (at the Galerie Courbe in the Grand Palais - https://youtu.be/ KmvFYuXB9Sg ) my team and I created a re-imagining of Vermeer-esque still lifes incorporating modern clothing, nonprofessional models and floral arrangements in a decidedly painterly environment with a classic northern exposure window (albeit an artificial window) on custom hand-painted back drops. Our creation imagines four renaissance era social classes (royal, noble, knight, peasant) in modern clothing Over two-days, we produced two looks each on four sets, reflecting social classes from the Renaissance. To tell our story we integrated the clothing from Dolce & Gabbana, Lanvin, Celine, Alexander McQueen, Gucci and more. Our models?

Real life women from Pacific Northwest Ballet’s corps de ballet; Angeli Kiana (@angelikiana), Madison Abeo (@maddi_rayn), Nicole Rizzatano (@nicolerigatoni), and Sarah Pasch Thomson (@paschmina).

To produce these “masterpieces” we brought together a very talented team: Production by Creative Live’s Mariangela Abeo (@mariangelaabeo @facesoffortitude). Set design and wardrobe styling by Lydia Marie (@lydiamrie). Set design and floral arrangements by Caleb Sims (@calebf07 @cfsaesthetics). Hair stylist Gigi Legaspi (@stylecassedge). Makeup by Sadhvi Babu (@sadhvibabumakeup). Custom backdrops, photography, lighting and retouching by H. August Smith (@haugustsmith).
