Celebrating 40 Years Service Recently, front line Salvos Stores Chaplain, Major Robert Sneller celebrated 40 years service as a Salvation Army Officer. . . . .

Major Sneller, who serves as a Store Chaplain in Sydney, Newcastle and on the Central Coast entered The Salvation Army Training College in 1971.

He became a Salvation Army Officer in January 1973.

“During my 40 years service I have worked in a wide variety of appointments. This has enabled me to help homeless youth, the elderly in our aged care centres, people fighting addiction and women and children who have been abused. For the last two years it has been an honour to serve as a Salvos Stores Chaplain. This work has enabled me to connect with hundreds of staff, volunteers and customers. It has been a privilege to serve the Lord in this way.”

Marketing Success for Salvos Stores The Salvation Army’s Salvos Stores has taken out an APMA (Australian Promotional Marketing Association) award for its ‘Salvonista’ campaign.

The Salvonista mobile boutique is an eco-friendly van, fully powered by sustainable energy, that transforms into a mobile fashion store. It’s been on the road since September last year, ‘popping up’ its store at various locations throughout NSW, ACT and Queensland.

“We wanted to give people who couldn’t reach a Salvation Army store the opportunity to select modern and vintage fashion items at fantastic prices,” says Salvos Stores General Manager, Neville Barrett.

“Re-using and recycling clothes means that we can look unique through affordable fashion, and we help the environment and the community by reducing landfill and assisting those less fortunate than ourselves.”

“The award will make people more aware of what The Salvation Army is about. We are about recycling – and we’re about transforming people’s lives,” says Mr Barrett.

“A lot of people aged under 35 are perhaps not as connected with The Salvation Army as their parents or grandparents were.

They don’t quite understand the significance of us being in the streets working with ministry and mission.

“We’re trying to bring them into the Salvonista campaign, let them see what we do and get to know us.”

Salvos Stores endeavors to price all items at a fair and reasonable price for all consumers.

Although we may not get it correct 100% of the time we believe in most instances our customers leave our stores with something that not only makes them feel good about themselves, but also knowing that all funds generated through Salvos Stores goes directly back to The Salvation Army.
