Find the correct shadow.

Hi kids! If I asked you to write a list of your favourite things, what would you put on it? What makes you feel happy, excited, peaceful and good? I know what I would put on my list: my family members, friends and pets. Some of my favourite things are freshly baked cookies, flowers from the garden, autumn leaves and sunshine. I love drinking tea, reading new books and learning new recipes. All these things make me feel good, and all these things come from God. We can thank Him for everything we have.

Every child deserves a bright future. But for some children around the world, things like a classroom, clean water, school supplies and a safe place to play don’t come easily. That’s why The Salvation Army has the Gifts of Hope program, to help support kids around the world. Keep reading this issue of Just for Kids to learn all about it.

An icicle

Jesus showed us how important children are. He welcomed children, cared about them and reminded others that every person is special and valuable, no matter how old they are. He wants everyone to care for children by helping them learn, grow and succeed.

T

he Salvation Army Gifts of Hope program delivers special gifts to people around the world that change their lives. At one school in Uganda, The Salvation Army gave children a safe place to play during recess and access to clean water for drinking and washing their hands. Clean water helps children stay healthy and ready to learn.

In Rwanda, students received the supplies they needed to complete projects in subjects such as science and English. They also worked together in a school garden, learning how to grow food while practising teamwork and responsibility. Gifts of Hope gives these important opportunities to children and families around the world. When people give, they help make sure that children have what they need to build a brighter future. 46-11/14/26 Just for Kids is a Ready to Explore resource, published weekly by The Salvation Army, Canada and Bermuda, 2 Overlea Blvd, Toronto, ON, M4H 1P4. esus was on His way to Jerusalem. As He was going into a village, 10 men met Him. They had a skin disease. They were standing close by and called out in a loud voice, “Jesus! Have pity on us!”

Jesus saw them and said, “Go. Show yourselves to the priests.” While they were on the way, they were healed.

When one of them saw that he was healed, he came back. He praised God in a loud voice, threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked Him. Jesus asked, “Weren’t all 10 healed? Where are the other nine? Didn’t anyone else return and give praise to God?” Then Jesus Hi kids! said to him, “Get up If you’ve read Just for Kids for a while, you will and go. Your faith know that I like learning about words and has healed you.” what they mean. I have a calendar that teaches me a big word every day of the year—that is 365 new words! This week I have a new word for you: gratitude. Gratitude means to be thankful and to show appreciation for something. If someone treats you with kindness, shares with you or helps you, you may feel gratitude toward them. Maybe you are grateful for people in your life who make you feel happy, safe and loved, such as your family, friends and God. There are plenty of things that I am grateful for, but at the top of my list is Jesus. In this issue of Just for Kids, you will read about a man who was thankful to Jesus for healing him.

What’s Happening, Canada and Bermuda?

Hi kids! When you’re trying to go somewhere new, maps can be helpful. They show you what direction to go in, where to turn and how to reach your destination. If you ever get lost, a map is a good place to start to figure out where you are and how to get to the right spot! Like a map helps us know where we’re going, God’s Word helps guide our lives. He has a plan for each of us, even when we can’t see what it is. Sometimes we may wonder why things happen the way they do or worry about what will happen next. But God sees the whole picture. He knows where we’re going and promises to guide us along the way. And if we ever feel lost, we can turn to Him. When we trust God, we can have peace knowing that we’re never walking alone.

In the beginning, the Word was already there. The Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. All things were made through Him. Nothing that has been made was made without Him. Life was in Him, and that life was the light for all people. The light shines in the darkness. But the darkness has not overcome the light. —John 1:1-5

What does this mean? Jesus has alw ays existed, b ecause He w part of God’s as big plan for th e world. In this verse, the has been part “Word” means Jesus, wh o of beginning. Je God’s plan from the very sus came to sh of God with th are the love e world. The Bible describ Jesus as a lig es ht because H e helps us se who God is a e nd shows us how to live. E when life fee ven ls stronger than dark or scary, Jesus’ light is the darkness and nothing can overcome it.
