Have you ever participated in a fundraiser? Fundraisers are meant to help raise money or items toward a cause that helps others in need. Sometimes people collect canned goods for food banks, or donate money they earn from selling handmade crafts, art, plants and more. There are so many unique ways to give back! Every year, people in The Salvation Army come up with exciting and fun ways to raise money for Partners in Mission, a campaign that supports Salvation Army ministries in countries all over the world. Read this issue of Just for Kids to learn more about Partners in Mission and how we can help!

Sunn “Coming to school makes me feel happy,” says 10-year-old Jayden. His favourite things to do? Painting, drawing and playing basketball with his friends. Ms. Milagros has been teaching at the school for six years and makes sure every student feels valued. “We talk to them about God’s love and teach stories that show respect and kindness,” she says. The children also learn Costa Rica’s traditions, such as the Punto Guanacasteco dance and marimba music, that help them be proud of who they are. Cuts for a Cause! Twelve-year-old Tayo Oyerinde wanted to do something special to raise money for Partners in Mission last year. After growing out his hair for more than two years, he cut it all off! Everyone at Agincourt Temple Community Church in Toronto, where he was attending at the time, got involved and had a lot of fun. Tayo raised more than $3,000 in total. Way to go!

t the time when the Bible was written, the Pharisees were religious leaders who cared about rules and the law. They challenged Jesus and tested Him with a question. “Teacher,” one Pharisee said, “You tell us to obey God’s commandments, but what is the most important one?” Jesus replied, “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with your soul. Love Him with all your mind. This is the first and most important commandment. And the second is similar. Love your neighbour as you love yourself. All of God’s rules are based on these two commandments.”

As followers of Jesus, there are a lot of things that we should do, such as be truthful, patient and respectful, but Jesus Himself tells us that the most important rule is to love God and love others. Now, Zacchaeus wasn’t exactly a “good” guy. In fact, he was known for being a cheater. Yet, Jesus chose to go to his house, even though there were tons of other people who wanted to meet Him. Jesus’ love and forgiveness changed Zacchaeus, and he became good.

So Zacchaeus climbed a tree and waited. Jesus stopped under the tree and said, “Zacchaeus, come down. I must stay at your house today.”

That’s how Zacchaeus felt when Jesus came to his hometown, Jericho. He had heard amazing things about Jesus and couldn’t wait to meet Him.

esus came to a town called Jericho. Zacchaeus, a man who lived there, wanted to see Jesus. But he was short. He could not see Jesus because of the crowd. He asked taller people to move over, but they ignored him. Nobody would help him because Zacchaeus had cheated them all out of a lot of money.

The people were shocked. They said, “Can you believe Jesus is having dinner with him?” Zacchaeus climbed down the tree. He wanted to do what was right. He told Jesus he would give half of everything he had to the poor. He promised to give back four times anything he had stolen. Jesus said to Zacchaeus, “Today salvation has come to your house.”
